And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people. So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church. Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands. And the angel said to him, “Dress yourself and put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.” And he went out and followed him. He did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened for them of its own accord, and they went out and went along one street, and immediately the angel left him. When Peter came to himself, he said, “Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting.” When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying. And when he knocked at the door of the gateway, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer. Recognizing Peter's voice, in her joy she did not open the gate but ran in and reported that Peter was standing at the gate. They said to her, “You are out of your mind.” But she kept insisting that it was so, and they kept saying, “It is his angel!” But Peter continued knocking, and when they opened, they saw him and were amazed. But motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, “Tell these things to James and to the brothers.” Then he departed and went to another place. Now when day came, there was no little disturbance among the soldiers over what had become of Peter. And after Herod searched for him and did not find him, he examined the sentries and ordered that they should be put to death. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea and spent time there. Now Herod was angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon, and they came to him with one accord, and having persuaded Blastus, the king's chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king's country for food. On an appointed day Herod put on his royal robes, took his seat upon the throne, and delivered an oration to them. And the people were shouting, “The voice of a god, and not of a man!” Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last. GUEST BIOS Joe Bill is widely regarded as one of the best teachers of  Improvisation in America today. He is one of the founding members of Annoyance Theater Chicago, was the Director of Corporate Training at iO Chicago for 15 years, and a Teacher & Guest Artist in Residence at The Second City Conservatory & Training Center for another 15 years. Joe first practiced improvisation in 1977 and studied and worked with Del Close from 1985 through the mid 90's. Joe has trained corporate clients in more than 80 Fortune 500 companies. Clients include NBC Universal, Disney, PepsiCo, Abbott Labs, Abbvie, GE, Leo Burnett, American Express, the CIA, and the Children's Miracle Network.  He has taught in the Business Schools of the University of Chicago, Harvard, Yale, Northwestern, Duke, and The University of Virginia. Joe has also been touring internationally as an improvisational performer, teacher, and director for more than 20 years.   Mark Meer is known worldwide as the voice of Commander Shepard in Bioware's Mass Effect Trilogy, and also voices several other characters in the series, including Blasto, the entire Vorcha species, and Niftu Cal. He plays multiple roles throughout Bioware's Dragon Age series, and appears dozens of characters in the original Baldur's Gate games, Beamdog's Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition, and Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear. Bom dia! Irmãos (ãs), paz seja convosco! Bem vindos (as) ao Devocional Edificai. Herodes cultivava raiva do povo de Tiro e Sidom havia algum tempo. Os habitantes dessas duas cidades portuárias da Fenícia eram rivais da Cesareia no comércio, mas dependiam das colheitas de grãos de Israel para se alimentarem. Para alcançar a paz com o rei Herodes, os cidadãos de Tiro e Sidom, recorrem a Blasto, principal oficial de Herodes, que interceda por eles e suspenda o embargo de grãos e estabeleça relações normais entre Israel e Fenícia. Naqueles dias houve uma festa em homenagem ao imperador Cláudio. Nessa festa comemorava-se o aniversário do imperador e ela acontecia também logo após o término da colheita de grãos, e, dessa forma, os mercadores aproveitaram o momento para fazer suas compras de trigo. Herodes subiu ao trono com seus trajes belíssimos e resplandecentes. Quando os primeiros raios de sol tocaram seu manto, ele foi iluminado pelo reflexo da luz solar. Enquanto discursava, seus bajuladores o exaltaram, afirmando que ele era mais que um homem; era a própria divindade. Atos, 12:22 – E o povo clamava: É voz de um deus, e não de homem! Essa reação do povo fez com que Herodes se exaltasse, ele não os repreendeu nem rejeitou sua bajulação, antes a acolheu, exaltando-se a si mesmo, deixando de dar a devida glória a Deus. No mesmo instante que os homens o exaltavam, os vermes o devoravam. Herodes adoeceu imediatamente e, após muito sofrimento, faleceu. O fim de Herodes foi extremamente doloroso e totalmente desprezível. No início de Atos 12, Herodes parecia estar no controle, enquanto a igreja padecia, mas no final do capítulo ele está morto, e a igreja segue, cumprindo o propósito de Deus. Diante de tais fatos irmãos, concluo que o sofrimento não destrói a igreja. Nós como igreja de Deus, não podemos nos acovardar diante dos ataques do inimigo. Diariamente enfrentaremos ataques, seremos confrontados, passaremos por situações que nos farão desanimar, mas nossa fé e esperança devem estar em Deus. O nosso socorro vem de Deus – Salmo 121:1-2 – Elevo os olhos para os montes: de onde me virá o socorro? O meu socorro vem do Senhor, que fez o céu e a terra.
