Am I really? Writing a Satanic book? Nah, not really but it is about Satan... and God.. and angels.. and demons... and the mother of all demons... and Greek mythology? Phew! Maybe it makes more sense if you listen to this episode.I want to note that I was not wearing my language speaking brain when I recorded this. I noticed that when editing and so I have tried to make it make more sense since my English escaped me a bit. Hope you can understand what the heck I am on about ;-) If not, please try to anyway, lol, I am not recording it again. Also go check out my new history podcast. It is for you if you're into mysteries, stories in general, learning something new, and just if you're a bit nosey and want a good tale. It's called Stories from History and you can listen to it on Spotify and on Apple Podcasts.Take care!

Mark Leslie would be the first person to admit he's still afraid of the monster under his bed. That might be why most of his books explore the darker side. In addition to penning a series of true ghostly tales (that include SPOOKY SUDBURY, HAUNTED HOSPITALS and CREEPY CAPITAL), he has written a few horror titles (I, DEATH, ONE HAND SCREAMING, and NOCTURNAL SCREAMS), is the editor of the horror anthologies CAMPUS CHILLS, FEEL THE FEAR, and SUPERNATURAL, and is the author of the humorous urban fantasy action/adventure 'Canadian Werewolf" series. His other passions within the non-fiction realm include fan appreciation/trivia books about the classic modern films Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (THE CANADIAN MOUNTED), Die Hard (YIPPEE KI-YAY MOTHERF*****), and the upcoming Christmas Vacation (THE SH*TTERS FULL)Proudly adopting the term "Book Nerd" for himself, Mark is most comfortable with a pen in hand, fingers on keyboard or with his nose stuck in a book.He can often be seen traveling to book events with a life-sized skeleton named Barnaby Bones. Please welcome author Lauren Ranalli to the show today! I found Lauren through the kidlit community online and had so much fun talking with her about inspiration, book nerdiness, and all things books and writing. I hope you enjoy the episode! Some Highlights: She first started writing stories after her son was born. As an interfaith family, her son was given many Christmas books, but she had a hard time finding any similar titles featuring Hanukkah. And so The Great Latke Cookoff began to take root, later becoming her first published picture book. At the time she didn't know self publishing was a thing (much like myself) and she ended up waiting 6 years before doing anything with the manuscript. Once she learned more about self publishing from a friend, she went for it! Lauren published her first book in 2018 since has published 3 others since, while also having a ton of fun doing it. The myth that self publishing is an option for people who can't get a publisher. It's a choice. How much control do you want over it? Importance of creating and carving out quiet time. We're all researching the same thing–the beauty in sharing resources and spending your precious hours on making your book amazing. Benefits of a business mastermind–not just with authors, but other business owners. Play around with the format, in person, virtual, meeting times and days, adapting as the years go on. Advantages of having control over the whole publication process in self publishing whenever you face obstacles. The myth of self publishing that you go it alone. If you are not an illustrator, DO NOT ILLUSTRATE YOUR BOOK. You can have a team, editors, illustrators, website designers, and more. SCBWI is a great place to start looking for illustrators and other pros on your team. Also this post on Lauren's site about working with an illustrator. I loved hearing Lauren talk about why she writes–because of the curiosity it inspires. She wants to see more stories out there. Picture books inspire curiosity to learn more which is exactly what my new podcast project, The Curious Compassionate, with Picture Book Peeps is about. Salvio and Molly get married despite her miscarriage, because he tells her that she's still fertile enough to give him kids. He doesn't want an equal partner, he essentially wants a baby-making sex slave, and poor Molly goes along with it because he also agreed to pay her brother's debts. The entire struggle of their relationship is Molly trying to convince Salvio that she deserves to be seen as an equal, and eventually he does; but that's something that should have been given to her by default from the very beginning!!
Salvio claims he can smell if a woman is on her period....? Also he proposes to Molly, telling her he is only proposing because she is agreeable, beddable, and pregnant, then he's confused when she's sad at how fucked up his proposal is. Keego and Alex talk about how Salvio is turning into a literally dick
Molly confesses to Salvio that she is pregnant; he accuses her of tricking him into impregnanting her for his money...even though he was the one who seduced her, brought the condoms, and offered her a job. He also accused her of lying and saying it was someone else's baby; despite knowing that they only had sex a week ago (how did she even know she was pregnant within 7 days??) and that she was a virgin before him. Then he's so mad he sleeps with her again. This is why we hate billionaires.
Molly takes up Salvio's offer for a new job, since Lady Avery fired her out of jealousy. Salvio thinks Molly is a stalker for this, even though he knows she has nowhere to go and he's half the reason she was fired. Molly also finds out that she is pregnant, despite the mini mountain of condoms she and Salvio burned through and it only being a week since they hooked up.
Molly has to prepare dinner for the Averys and Salvio, but she gets distracted by her own horniness and ruins the whole dinner. Later, she joins Salvio in his room for a nightcap, where, despite being a complete virgin, she turns out to be a master at sex because of course she is. All female characters written in these sorts of books are basically sexual Mary-Sues. Keego explains to the audience the story of the Amsterdam-dad-glory-hole story, and Alex talks about his love-hate relationship with Chelsea; the sports team, not a woman.
We have a Christmas special for Bad Book Bash! Join Keego, Alex Byrne, and Betsy as we review “The Italian's Christmas Housekeeper”. This book was picked because of the hilarious description on the back, starting with this line:“Shy Housekeeper Molly Miller always tries her best.”Molly is an English maid who meets Italian billionaire Salvio De Gennaro, who has only two personality traits: being rich and being from Naples. Him and Molly fall for each other through a story cascade featuring emotional abuse, gaslighting, manipulation, and body shaming. If you want to hear a heartwarming Christmas romance, this is not the book for you. This book will make you want to throw yourself into the yuletide fire. But hey I'm sure it's better than whatever family bullshit you've got going on this year, so give it a listen anyways
We learn more about our character's backstory, like how she knows about the supernatural world because her mom was bitten by a WEREBADGER?? Paul thinks Lucian is the ideal sigma male, and Betsy tells her fiance how she fancies Robin Hood, the cartoon fox version. Our character (Paulelica) also has to take "samples" from her vampire client Lucian, and it's as cringe as you think it is.
NEW PODCAST SERIES ALERT!! Listen in as we do a gameplay of the infamous, interactive story app “Chapters”. In this app, you play a character; usually a young, busty woman, and make decisions for her as she navigates her creepy, supernatural romance plotline. Our “Chapters” gameplay has all of the cringe, ghoulish plotlines as our regular YA novels, but way more consent because this time, WE'RE in charge! Even better, I waste my money on in-game purchases so you don't have to

Cheers booknerds! This is the second episode of our Aesop Women's Library special. In this episode, Honey and Diana will be talking about some of their picks for the fiction and poetry collections that will be availble at the selected Aesop stores soon. You will be spoilt for choice and we're here to help highlight some titles that might interest you. Enjoy! —Over the course of three days, the shelves of Aesop Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Aesop The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur and Aesop Gurney Plaza will be cleared of products to make way for significant works of literature detailing the experiences of women-identifying authors and allies from around the region. The selection of over 20 titles—composed of recommendations from six collaborating publishing houses who champion local literary voices—is sprawling in genre and spirit: from emerging voices to seasoned authors, and short stories to novels and poetry. The featured writers include Viji Krishnamoorthy, 梁靖芬, Hanna Alkaf and Alina Rastam. As a way of supporting local independent publishers and booksellers in Malaysia, Aesop has purchased over 6,000 volumes from Lit Books, Clarity Publishing, Cite Book Garden, Gerak Budaya, Penwings Publishing and Buku Fixi.
