The Atlanta Falcons rushed for more than 200 yards in a 23-20 upset victory of the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The Falcons used a committee of running backs to wear down the Browns depleted defensive front. Cordarrelle Patterson started the game, but running backs Caleb Huntley, Tyler Allgeier and Avery Williams all chipped in to help pull off the victory. The defense closed out the game with a big sack from Grady Jarrett and an interception from cornerback Dee Alford. The Falcons improved to 2-2 on the season with the victory. The Browns were also without middle linebacker Anthony Walker Jr., who's out for the season with a torn quadriceps tendon. He was replaced by Jacob Phillips, who wore the green helmet sticker and called the defense signals. The Browns, who were tied 10-10 at the half, went ahead for the first time, 13-10, on a 45-yard Cade York field goal to cash in on Denzel Ward's interception with 6:57 left in the third quarter. The pick followed two straight three-and-outs by the Browns offense. But the Falcons gave the Browns a taste of their own medicine on their next drive. The ran 10 straight times — all with lead back Cordarelle Patterson on the sidelines presumably nursing his sore knee — to take a 17-13 left with 12:51 left on Caleb Huntley's 5-yard TD run. Huntley ran eight times on the drive. But the Browns' running game came alive too, with Kareem Hunt rumbling for 20 yards and then Nick Chubb blasting up the left side for a 28-yard TD to make it 20-17 with 9:51 left. “... In the exhibition season finale, rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder led the Falcons to a 28-12 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ridder played into the fourth quarter and guided the Falcons to four touchdowns. In addition to Ridder, running back Caleb Huntley led the way with 17 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown. Rookie running back Tyler Allgeier had a rushing and a receiving touchdown. The Falcons finished the exhibition season 2-1.
