Our guest today is Matt Salmon. Matt is a front runner in the AZ Gubernatorial Race. Matt has previously served in both the Arizona State Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. In his previous elected positions, Matt earned a reputation for standing on principle and challenging the status quo, ultimately becoming a co-founder of the conservative House Freedom Caucus alongside leaders like Jim Jordan, Ron DeSantis, Mark Meadows, and Mick Mulvaney. During his time in Congress, Matt earned awards for being a “Defender of Liberty,” for being the “Taxpayer Hero” from Citizens Against Government Waste. 1) The AZ Primary Election is quickly approaching and will be hld on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022. Do you feel that the voters have had opportunities to know you and what sets you apart from the other Republican candidates? 2) One issue that is very top of mind for citizens in every state right now is School safety. You are the father of several grown children who have blessed you with grandchildren. How do we keep the most vulnerable among us safe in their schools? 3) You have been working on a plan to help protect our southern border. Tell us about that and what makes it superior to other ideas people have suggested. 4) What do you want to leave our audience knowing about you and why you are uniquely qualified to be one of our nation's 50 governors, and to encourage them to check the box for Matt Salmon for Governor?
This week on Breaking Battlegrounds, Chuck sits down with former Congressman Matt Salmon who is currently running to be Arizona's next governor. Later in the show, Albert Eisenberg of Real Clear Politics calls in with a look at how Harvard stifles diversity of thought on campus. -Raised in Tempe, Matt attended public schools, graduated from Arizona State University, and later earned a master's degree from Brigham Young University. After completing his education, he worked as an executive with a major telecommunications firm in Arizona.Matt's career in public service began in 1990 when he defeated an incumbent member of the Arizona Senate in the Republican primary. Four years later, he was elected to represent Arizona's First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.During his time in Congress, Matt was named a “Defender of Liberty” and earned the “Taxpayer Hero” award from Citizens Against Government Waste. Among Matt's many legislative accomplishments was the sponsoring and passing of “Aimee's Law,” a measure that gave “no second chances” for rapists, molesters, and murderers. After honoring his term limit pledge and leaving Congress in 2001, Matt went back to the private sector where he experienced firsthand the obstacles many Arizonans face when trying to grow a small business. As he watched the size of our government and our national debt explode and our individual freedoms shrink, he decided to return to public service. With support from conservative leaders across the country, Salmon was twice elected to represent Arizona's Fifth Congressional District.Matt was a leader in the fight to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a system that offers more affordable options to patients and puts them in charge of their healthcare – not government bureaucrats. He also served as chairman of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, a committee of particular importance to border states like Arizona, where he worked to help secure the release of U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi after he was imprisoned in Mexico.-Albert Eisenberg is a millennial political consultant based in Philadelphia and Charleston, SC. He is a MaverickPAC Future 40 awardee and co-founder of the non-profit media outlet Broad + Liberty.Since beginning to build his own business at the age of 24, Albert has served on campaigns and advised causes from local to national, including running communications for statewide campaigns in multiple states, serving as senior advisor to the Woodson Center and its 1776 Unites campaign, building an urban GOP in his home city of Philadelphia, and creating unique bridges between the LGBT community and Republican candidates in a score of states and swing Congressional Districts. Albert's writing has appeared in Fox News, RealClearPolitics, National Review, The Washington Examiner, and the Philadelphia Inquirer, where he was the youngest op-ed columnist (and only conservative!) before being defenestrated for wrong-think. Albert cares about diversifying the American Right, combatting media bias & opening the “Overton Window” of allowable public discourse. In his spare time he is a cat dad and recently completed a full gut renovation of a rowhome in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. -Connect with us:www.breakingbattlegrounds.voteTwitter: www.twitter.com/Breaking_BattleFacebook: www.facebook.com/breakingbattlegroundsInstagram: www.instagram.com/breakingbattlegroundsLinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/breakingbattlegrounds This is a public episode. Tom Schatz, Citizens Against Government Waste joins Holly this hour to talk about the giant waste in the Build Back Better bill and how it will hit all of our pocketbooks and wallets in the future.
Our guest today is Matt Salmon. Matt has previously served in both the Arizona State Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives, and now he is running for Governor of AZ. In his previous elected positions, he earned a reputation for standing on principle and challenging the status quo, ultimately becoming a co-founder of the conservative House Freedom Caucus alongside leaders like Jim Jordan, Ron DeSantis, Mark Meadows, and Mick Mulvaney. During his time in Congress, Matt earned awards for being a “Defender of Liberty,” for being the “Taxpayer Hero” from Citizens Against Government Waste. 1) In your previous offices you clearly distinguished yourself as a Representative of your constituents and you are skilled in the political arena. But, that arena is a lion's den at best. What makes you want to jump back into it and run for Governor of AZ? 2) What makes you uniquely qualified to be one of the 50 United States Governors, and specifically the Governor of the great State of AZ? 3) You have served in AZ Government before both at the State and Federal levels. How did you use your previous roles to impact our 2A Rights? 4) Our current AZ Governor has been lukewarm at best about his support of our 2A Rights. What do our listeners need to know about your stance on our rights to keep and bear arms? 5) What are the key issues that you believe our next Arizona Governor will face?

He has been named one of the “top lobbyists” in Washington for the past six years by The Hill. Kevin Brady considers it an honor to be representing the 8th District of Texas in the U.S House of Representatives. A pro-family, pro-small business conservative, Kevin’s strong belief in free enterprise guides him as the Vice Chairman and top Republican on the Joint Economic Committee. A Deputy Whip for the GOP Leadership team, Kevin is a senior member of the House Ways & Means Committee, considered by many to be the most powerful committee in Congress, with jurisdiction over 2/3 of the federal budget including taxes, Social Security, Medicare, international trade and welfare. As the Chairman on the Subcommittee on Trade and a senior member of the Social Security Subcommittee, Kevin fights for free market solutions to our country’s economic challenges and preservation of the programs that help our seniors. As the White House’s point man in the successful passage of the Central American Free Trade Agreement, Kevin is excited about the thousands of new jobs that free trade has created here in Texas. Prior to his election in Congress, Kevin worked as a chamber of commerce executive for 18 years and served six years in the Texas House of Representatives where he was a leader on victims’ rights issues and named one of the Ten Best Legislators for Families & Children. In 1994 he was named one of Five Outstanding Young Texans. In order to stay close to the people he represents, Kevin, an original Hometown Hero of The Woodlands is a million mile flyer with Continental Airlines. He chooses to commute to work in Washington each week so he, and his wife, Cathy Patronella Brady, can raise their two sons, Will (13) and Sean (10) in The Woodlands where they attend Saints Simons and Jude Catholic Church. A Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary, Kevin is also a Distinguished Alumni of the University of South Dakota. In Congress, Kevin is recognized as the author of the bi-partisan Federal Sunset Act to abolish obsolete federal agencies and eliminate waste and duplication by placing an expiration date on every federal program. A strong supporter of medical research who created the Texas Birth Defects Registry as a state legislator, Kevin has a special interest in finding cures for rare diseases, especially Primary Pulmonary Hypertension – for now an incurable disease that strikes young women of child- bearing age in growing numbers. He has received the Golden Bulldog Award by Watchdogs of the Treasury, special recognition by Citizens Against Government Waste, and is a perennial winner of the Guardian of Small Business, Taxpayer Hero and Spirit of Enterprise awards.
