Honda has scrapped production plans for its Civic Hybrid in Mexico, shifting production to an Indiana facility.Japan's second-largest automaker makes the shift with tariffs and trade wars in mind—President Donald Trump has imposed 25% tariffs on Mexican-made products. About 80% of Honda's Mexican exports wind up in the United States, selling 1.4 million cars and trucks in the U.S. last year. Furthermore, about 40% of Honda's U.S. sales are imported from Mexico and Canada. Honda may still face retaliatory tariffs as the automaker exports some 60,000 U.S.-made cars to Mexico and Canada.

Driving the latest Honda Civic hatchback – a model that has evolved since the first generation arrived in 1972 – a small car that established a very strong reputation - the current series refreshed for 2025, the entry petrol engine retired, now in two hybrid variants plus the potent turbo Type R for performance buffs. The entry Civic Hybrid e:HEV- L $49,990 drive-away and the better-equipped Civic e:HEV-LX $55,900 drive-away which I drove. These latest Civics getting small mid- life styling updates - a new grille and bumper, new alloy wheels and a revised range of colours. Inside connected services have been updated with a new Google-based infotainment system. Overall, a very compelling small car package with engaging driving dynamics with clever internal packaging – roomy and well equipped in the e:HEV-LX with full leather interior, power front seats, full panoramic sunroof with power blind, and wireless phone charging. The 2.0-litre petrol engine joined by a two-motor hybrid system driving the front wheels via an electric CVT transmission. The hybrid powertrain prioritises electric running, the petrol engine kicking in only under load, and the transition is seamless. This Honda Civic feels premium in look and feel – simply one of the best new cars I’ve tested in the last 12 months. I’m David BerthonSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Driving the recently upgraded Honda Civic e:HEV-LX five door hatch at $55,900 drive-away not inexpensive but this is one very impressive small hybrid hatchback, highly equipped, frugal and with very engaging dynamics. A 2-0 litre petrol engine with two motor hybrid assistance driving through an electric CVT transmission. The hybrid power train most impressive, prioritising electric power and the move to petrol power under a heavier throttle is seamless quiet and refined. As I said earlier this is one of the best new cars I’ve driven in the last 12 months. Economy, in mainly city driving an impressive 5.0L/100km on 91 grade petrol. Battery charging when coasting and braking can be adjusted via the steering wheel shift paddles. And on top of 11 airbags a full suite of active safety elements via Honda Sensing technology. The drive experience engaging – on 18- inch alloy wheels with premium Michelin Pilot Sport tyres the driving dynamics are first class. Yes, it’s a little pricey at $55,900 drive-away but the Honda Civic e- HEV-L is loaded with equipment apart from a tyre repair kit and no spare wheel. Warranty five-years unlimited km warranty, battery warranty 8 years with service costs class leading – Just $597 over three years. The 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid has been named North American Car of the Year, and nobody knows more about the car and process than NACTOY jurors Jack Nerad and Matt DeLorenzo, who host and co-host this week's show. They'll take you behind the scenes to discuss not only the winning vehicle but also the procedures that resulted in the choice of Honda's highly popular compact car. At the same time, Nerad and DeLorenzo will offer long looks at the winners of the North American Utility of the Year and North American Truck of the Year — the 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz and the 2025 Ford Ranger. You'll hear commentary on these vehicles you won't get anywhere else. In our interview segment this week, you'll also hear a discussion you won't hear anywhere else. Russell Wager, Kia America's vice president of marketing, is our guest. Jack Nerad sat down with him to talk about the opportunities and challenges presented as the country transitions from the Biden years to the Trump era. Speaking of Biden, as one of his last acts in office, he and his Administration essentially banned Chinese-built cars from entering the U.S. market and, at the same time, banned vehicles with Chinese technology and hardware. We'll discuss the ramifications of that coming up. In our road test segment, guest co-host Matt DeLorenzo will detail the special virtues of the 2025 Infiniti QX55, and Jack Nerad will provide an in-depth report on the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric — a vehicle that might be the best value among battery-electric vehicles right now. Listener Question of the Week “It seems like electric cars are more expensive than gasoline vehicles, but some people tell me that you can quickly make up the difference because they cost much less to own and operate. Then Benjamin brightens up the discussion by bringing up the 2025 Honda Civic Sedan Hybrid, which uses much of the same running gear, but somehow whiffed on its infotainment system. Benjamin investigates as to whether he's the problem here, or if Honda has a wider software issue to resolve. Thanks for listening!

The discussion this week opens with the 2025 Mini Cooper S, a formerly subcompact car that's grown up a bit, but still has a way to broadcast its cute charm. Benjamin has plenty to say about its design, but there are a few important issues he brings up about its user experience. Does that all get in the way of how it drives? Then Sami chimes in with a review of TWO Honda Civics. First up is the manual-only 2025 Civic Si, which gets a few mild updates this year to ensure no one forgets about this sport-compact staple. Sami has a lot to say about whether the Si is still worth talking about these days, and if it's gone too far from the usual gameplan of being a cheap fun car. Then he discusses the 2025 Civic Hatchback Hybrid, which has plenty of torque along with incredibly low fuel consumption, making it a jack of all trades. But it does carry a steep price tag in some regions, which turns him off entirely.

The 2024 Lexus TX three-row crossover might prompt some luxury SUV buyers to wonder why Lexus hasn't had a vehicle like it before. The good news is Lexus has it now, and it promises to be a strong competitor to other three-row luxury crossovers like the Acura MDX. Host Jack Nerad had the opportunity to test the vehicle at its American launch outside Austin, Texas, and he came away impressed. Its spacious interior, up-to-the-minute technology tech, and multiple powertrains give the TX all it needs to compete in its very competitive segment. The Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, and Infiniti QX60 each have their strong points, but the Lexus TX seems to have encapsulated the factors that luxury crossover buyers want most. Smooth-riding and extremely quiet, the 2024 TX might not outrun some of its rivals on the racetrack, but it does deliver the space and comfort buyers demand. The TX also offers a fascinating selection of powertrains — a turbocharged four-cylinder, a hybrid that combines a turbocharged four-cylinder with electric motors, and a plug-in hybrid that teams a V6 with electric motors. Add four-wheel-steer in some trims, and you have a technological tour de force. In our other road test, Co-Host Chris Teague took the wheel of the scintillating BMW M2. Small, agile, and supremely powerful, the M2 proved to be a more than willing partner as Teague tore his way across southern Maine. In this episode, he'll have a full report. In the news this week, Honda is bringing back the popular Civic Hybrid compact sedan, and it promises to be better than ever. Honda was long a hybrid skeptic, but in the past couple of years, it has changed its tune and now embraces hybrid technology. Its Accord and CR-V hybrid models are bestsellers in the brand, so you can see why Honda execs are bullish on the Civic Hybrid. Some major carmakers are far less bullish about the prospects for battery-electric vehicles. Spurred by federal, state, and local regulations, most automakers have invested billions in electric vehicle tech. Not only have they introduced scores of new EVs, but they have even more waiting in the wings. Now, though, they are facing the reality of the market, and the prospects are less than encouraging. We'll give you our take on this conundrum in this episode. Kia is an example of a carmaker that has swallowed the EV Kool-Aid. The Korean brand has just introduced a trio of lower-cost electric vehicles in Asia as it tries to reach its goal of selling one million EVs by 2026. We'll tell you if we can expect to see any of them in the U.S. soon. Our special guests this week have a fascinating new concept that can provide peace of mind to the millions of Americans who buy vehicles from private parties each year. Ed Brojerdi and Craig Nehamen are co-founders and co-CEOs of Caramel, a company they designed to relieve the many pain points of buying a car from an individual. From dealing with the Department of Motor Vehicles to offering service contracts, Caramel can help private buyers and sellers make beautiful music together … or at the very least, complete car transactions hassle-free. Please tune in for their conversation with host Jack Nerad.
