This week on Autonomy Markets, Grayson Brulte and Walter Piecyk discuss the significant operational challenges Waymo and Uber are currently experiencing in Atlanta and Nuro's Series E round.Waymo's launch in Atlanta has gone anything but smooth. A shortage of vehicles and frequent rider pairing issues on Uber have sparked negative local media coverage, with Fox 5 Atlanta even publishing a guide on how to improve your chances of getting a Waymo ride. The Atlanta launch has raised questions about the long-term future of Uber and Waymo's partnership. While Waymo and Uber are facing vehicle supply issues in Atlanta, Nuro successfully closed a Series E round led by Uber that raised $203 million at a valuation of $6 billion.Episode Chapters0:00 Robots2:42 Nuro Series E4:54 Delivery Robots Part 16:11 Fleet Management 9:24 Delivery Robots Part 214:26 Waymo on Uber in Atlanta 21:15 Status of Waymo and Uber's Relationship 26:58 Helm.ai Honda Expand Partnership 32:21 Alibaba's Autonomous Driving IPO34:16 Baidu Apollo Go36:35 Tesla FSD in Japan38:46 Cybercab39:32 Next WeekRecorded on Thursday, August 21, 2025--------About The Road to AutonomyThe Road to Autonomy provides market intelligence and strategic advisory services to institutional investors and companies, delivering insights needed to stay ahead of emerging trends in the autonomy economy™. News and Updates: The Republican-led FCC is moving to kill its 1Gbps broadband speed goal, arguing that such benchmarks unfairly disadvantage satellite and fixed wireless services like Starlink and T-Mobile Home Internet. Chair Brendan Carr says the current 100/25 Mbps standard is more "technologically neutral," though critics warn the move could hinder fiber rollout and inflate broadband availability stats. Microsoft Office 2024 is now available as a one-time $149 purchase with no feature updates, while Microsoft 365 remains a subscription service ($70–$100/year) offering cloud storage, constant updates, mobile access, and AI tools. Office 2024 suits offline users or regulated industries, while 365 is better for collaboration, flexibility, and long-term value. A single weak password allowed hackers to take down 158-year-old UK transport firm KNP. Ransomware gang Akira encrypted all company data and demanded a multi-million-pound ransom. Without backups or sufficient protection, KNP collapsed, laying off 700 workers. UK officials say ransomware incidents are rising rapidly, with 35–40 attacks per week and growing concern over underreporting and ransom payments. Tesla was forced to refund a customer $10,000 after an arbitrator ruled the company failed to deliver its Full Self-Driving (FSD) package. The buyer couldn't access FSD due to eligibility restrictions and noted that the software didn't perform as promised. Tesla provided a poorly prepared witness in arbitration and had to cover both the refund and $8,000 in arbitration fees. The decision highlights ongoing doubts about Tesla's ability to fulfill its long-standing autonomous driving claims.

In this video, I break down why I think I'll be able to use unsupervised FSD in my own Tesla in Austin before the year is over. - How Tesla's geofenced Robotaxi network is the key. - Creating hyper-realistic simulations of cities like Austin to rapidly train and validate FSD. - The logical steps from safety-monitored Robotaxis to unmanned Robotaxis, and finally, to unsupervised FSD for personal vehicles in those same proven zones. - What "unsupervised" will likely mean at first (hint: you'll probably still be in the driver's seat, but without the nags!). News and Updates: Brazil's Supreme Court voted to hold social media companies liable for illegal user content, moving tech regulation closer to Europe's model. Critics warn it may stifle free speech as platforms preemptively censor content. A New York judge ruled a wrongful death lawsuit against Meta and TikTok can proceed, finding it plausible their algorithms actively targeted dangerous “subway surfing” videos to a teen. Section 230 protections may not apply if discovery confirms active promotion. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld Texas' age-verification law for porn sites in a 6-3 decision, ruling it doesn't violate First Amendment rights. Critics warn it endangers privacy and chills lawful adult expression. Ford CEO Jim Farley called China's EV industry “humbling,” praising Xiaomi's $35K SU7 as better than U.S. rivals in cost, range, and in-vehicle tech. U.S. automakers remain hampered by high battery costs and policy shifts. Another Tesla in Full Self-Driving mode drove onto train tracks in Pennsylvania — one of several recent incidents highlighting persistent safety flaws. Despite marketing robotaxis, Tesla's system remains classified as Level 2 assistance requiring active human supervision.

If you're interested in Tesla Robotaxi, Tesla AI or Tesla FSD, then you ought to know about James Douma. He's probably the one person who's done the deepest public dives on Tesla FSD and Tesla AI over the years. In fact, over the past 4 years I've published 40+ videos (!) with James Douma on Tesla AI/FSD (they are all on a playlist on my YouTube channel). I first discovered James Douma a long time ago (maybe almost 8-10 years ago?) on a web forum called http://teslamotorsclub.com . Back then it was one of the only places for early Tesla owners and TSLA investors to discuss issues deeply. While I posted about investing topics, James posted about Tesla Autopilot and its hardware but in a way that was more thorough than anybody else. When I started posting YouTube videos years later, I invited him on my channel to hear his thoughts on Tesla Autopilot/FSD. It was a riveting discussion and I was surprised at how much I could learn from him. I invited him again for another interview on my channel, and once again I was floored by how much I was learning. So over the years, James has been a great resource for me (and many others) to keep pulse on what Tesla is doing with FSD and AI (and even robotics). He doesn't have his own YouTube channel. He doesn't have any paid services or subscriptions. He probably has mixed feelings about so many people knowing about him. But I appreciate his willingness over the years to be available and help the Tesla community by offering his insights and knowledge. Here's an hour+ discussion on Optimus humanoid robots with James Douma. Social

Alex Roy and his co-pilots recently made two historic coast to coast trips - California to New York -  in his brand new Model S. Their mission: Measure the efficiency and safety of the Tesla FSD system. How close was Tesla to mastering full autonomy? Roy and Team use two key metrics. The first is the total number of disengagements – whether voluntary or involuntary. The second: How quickly could the system recover after a disengagement?  Roy, who previously set the Electric Car Cannonball record in his Tesla, has now turned his focus to autonomous driving. His central question: How soon will cars be able to drive themselves coast to coast allowing us to take a nap in the back seat?  I first met Alex Roy in 2018 at a private industry event south of Munich. He's one of a kind - colorful, smart and professional. You will enjoy his vivid first-hand account of the cannonball runs, both the triumphs and  the reversals - like the time the team encountered a good old-fashioned midwestern thunderstorm in Indiana. How exactly did The Model S and the FSD system respond to that crush of water? Alex Roy, partner, New Industry Venture Capital on the Driving With Dunne podcast.

Tesla initiated deployment of its newest Full Self-Driving (FSD) software version 13 to employees and select customers during the weekend, propelling the company's stock value higher in Monday trading. The electric vehicle manufacturer's shares rose 3.2% to $356.07, extending a remarkable 37% increase since the November 5th presidential election results. The latest FSD upgrade promises substantial improvements in autonomous driving capabilities, with Tesla forecasting a sixfold reduction in required driver interventions per mile traveled. Early demonstrations of version 13.2 revealed enhanced functionalities, including the system's ability to navigate from parking spot to parking spot with minimal human interaction. Tesla's artificial intelligence division announced the update through its social media account on X, stating "New brain who dis." Investment firm Stifel demonstrated confidence in Tesla's autonomous driving trajectory by substantially increasing its stock price target from $287 to $411. The adjustment primarily stems from analysts' optimistic outlook regarding the company's robotaxi program, dubbed Cybercab, and continued advancement in self-driving technology. This assessment comes despite maintaining steady EBITDA projections for 2024-2025 and reducing expectations for 2026. Financial analysts at Roth MKM upgraded Tesla's stock rating from neutral to buy, establishing a new price target of $380, significantly higher than their previous $80 target. The firm's analysis suggests that CEO Elon Musk's public support for former President Trump has expanded Tesla's consumer base and strengthened confidence in potential market growth. Tesla CEO Elon Musk projected achievement of genuine autonomous driving capability by mid-2025, focusing initially on Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in California and Texas. During Tesla's third-quarter earnings call, Musk acknowledged his tendency to provide optimistic timelines while also revealing potential hardware limitations in vehicles equipped with Hardware 3.0, promising free upgrades if necessary. Early user feedback from experienced FSD testers indicates substantial improvements in the system's performance. Veteran tester @DirtyTesla reported successful navigation through snow-covered dirt roads with complete autonomy, while @AIDRIVR noted superior ride smoothness compared to professional ride-sharing services. The technical implementation of FSD version 13.2 demonstrates notable advancements in practical functionality. Tesla Autopilot Engineer Arek Sredzki emphasized the system's comprehensive Park-to-Park capability, allowing vehicles to complete entire journeys with minimal driver input beyond initial destination selection. Market analysts attribute Tesla's recent stock performance partially to expectations of a more favorable regulatory environment under a potential Trump administration. Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives suggested that Trump's presidency could expedite the implementation timeline for autonomous driving technologies, potentially advancing goals originally set for 2026-2027. The company's strategic positioning includes aggressive sales initiatives, particularly in the United States market. Tesla recently introduced year-end discounts on Model Y vehicles as part of its effort to achieve record-breaking quarterly deliveries, with analyst consensus projecting 498,000 vehicle deliveries in Q4.
