UW-La Crosse political science professor, Dr. Anthony Chergosky, in studio discussing optics of the Trump-Zelenskyy Oval Office meeting, media bias and why Republicans are now shying away from public town halls. Plus, Chergosky reignites the #CurdWar between Kwik Trip and Culvers, and we chatted quick about the end of Skype, when the video service should be ruling the world. We began the show by delving into media bias, highlighting billionaire Jeff Bezos's recent overhaul of The Washington Post's opinion section to prioritize "personal liberties" and "free markets," which led to the resignation of opinion editor David Shipley. This move has sparked significant debate about media handling of the Trump administration. Our conversation then shifted to the peculiar televised meeting between Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President Donald Trump, VP JD Vance, and the media. We analyzed the unusual dynamics of the event, including whether anyone emerged favorably from the encounter including the journalist who blew his question asking Zelenskyy about not wearing a suit). This led us to examine why Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, are retreating from holding public town halls, claiming paid actors are attending to voice complaints. Chergosky noted that Democrats held a similar stance around 2009 during Obama's tenure and the Tea Party movement. We wrapped up the show saying farewell to Skype and wondering how it managed to fumble what should have been an easy win as the pandemic moved everyone to video calls. Once the only name in that realm, Skype somehow let Zoom take over — when, really, it should have been ruling the world of virtual meetings.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Send us a textEugene Smith loved working at McDonald's as a young man. Being in the high-paced fray of fast food was thrilling, but what Eugene didn't know was that this passional would reemerge in 2008 when a cow broke his leg, farm prices started to tank, and he had to figure out what was next. Eugene told his adult kids that he was going to move from Wisconsin to Idaho to expand Culver's restaurants and invited any one of them to join him for the adventure. This is their story with a behind-the-scenes look at being a restaurant owner.

Jim also asks if should take a lesson from the no-show Packers. He asks how he should move on from his former and overly-expensive barber: just ghost them or formally "break up" with them? Or, should he just fake his death to avoid the awkward? Jim also describes his new gravely-voiced, and denim-loving haircutter, along with how he "maturely" ghosted an old girlfriend in Florida. Throwing Stones includes takes about Simone Biles sporting a Packers-themed jacket to her husband Jonathan Owens' preseason game in Chicago, the U.S. amateur golf open at Hazelteen, and the scandalous affair at a Culvers in Jesse Nelson's old stomping ground Muskego. They wrap up on Crosstalk with the Great Dane Huddle, hosted by Alex Gravatt and NEW ESPN Madison employee Pablo Iglesias! Patrick tackles the tough issue of conscience versus preference in observing Church laws. He explores a real-life example of someone not attending mass due to grieving, and clarifies that preference is not the same as a well-formed conscience. He also debunks the notion that personal preference, such as attending only the traditional Latin mass, excuses one from Sunday obligations. The takeaway? As Catholics, it's paramount to properly form our consciences and adhere to Church obligations, even when it's challenging. Joanne - I thought you were crazy the first time I listened to you but now I listen to you all the time and this show is a blessing. (00:37) Susan - I was disappointed at Culvers for having a 'they, them' name tag. I felt like I was being scolded. (06:54) Audio: “I'm a nice guy” gets a free water at Chick Fil A and harasses an employee and it costs him everything Bob - Sometimes doing the right thing is telling people that they are true to who they say they are. (17:07) Billy (email) – Does Relevant Radio have any materials I could leave in a hotel? Matt - How culpable are you if you appeal to conscience to violate Church law? I know two people who are justifying not going to Mass. (28:18) Dominic - I just turned 20 and had fallen into the radical traditionalist group of hating the Novus Ordo. I found it was making me more hateful and closed off. (41:31) Tony - What is the Catholic Churches teaching on pre-destination and free will? (47:30)

Dang this one is super spooky. Tom is very pro-recycling, Beef is bringing back denim, and Chubbs put together his costume two minutes before recording. It's the Halloween episode! There are maybe like 3 parts that have anything to do with Halloween. There is a lot of very bad podcasting out there, but this one might take the cake. Tom opens wine with power tools (it's just my toothbrush Dad), Beef hates pretty much every food that isn't something from Culvers, and Chubbs has beef with Chipotle, well actually no he doesn't because they're all out. Enjoy! Or Don't! follow us on socials. thx.

Producer Fredward joins Kelly and Lizz for another maternity-leave episode of the Carpool podcast. The gals are playing with nicknames for the babe and Lizz has exciting gender reveal news to share! Situationship is today's millennial word of the day. Which is what the Gen Zers are calling their connections when they're sort of talking, sort of dating, sort of a thing, but also…sort of not. Kelly's boomer idiom for Lizz is “don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.” Kelly's driveway dump is packed with goodies from her week alone at home with Fred. First up, Mulan, a movie truly ahead of its time. Next, Liquid IV is cornering the mocktail market on Instagram with their impressive add-ins like egg whites and sugared grapefruit. Give them a follow! Kelly and Lizz both love on the idea of moms having other moms' backs in the parking lot whether they're loading up or just can't return a cart when they've got kids in tow. Kelly brings a little celeb news with the unremarkable Marie Kondo report, a surprisingly cluttered Julia Fox apartment tour, and Kylie Jenner's baby name. To wrap up the segment, a rant about how bubble makeup headbands are making Kelly irrationally upset and Kelly starts her hair care journey with advice from Kathleen Post and Mary Orton. In industry news a new SUV has been released, the Mazda CX 90 with a plug-in hybrid option and third row seats that supposedly accommodate up to 8 people. Kelly says the former CX 9 was good value for a lot of tech, but not the best space for the money. Will the CX 90 surprise and delight or be about the same? On today's ditch the drive-through Kelly shares her favorite foods that friends and family have brought her so that she could live off of something other than her pregnancy and postpartum favorite, Culvers. Topping the list are mom's egg casserole, a big plate of cookies, asian inspired chicken and blanched veggies, homemade pizza, and a Trader Joe's freezer haul. Lizz plugs an Oreo-gate update that gluten-free double stuffed Oreos are the real winners. Maternity leave streaming recommendations round out this episode with Kelly and Lizz's current favorite shows that everyone should binge including: Only Murderers in The Building, Abbott Elementary, That 90s Show, The Parent Test, and Ginny and Georgia. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Want our advice on literally anything?
