Happy Pride Month! For this episode, we have the wonderful Vivienne Lovecraft from Germany who is a non-binary, Filipino Drag Queen and is an activist for the LGBTIQ community. This is Part TWO of a two-part piece. Trigger Warning: Transphobia, Homophobia, Suicide The conversation continues around LGBTQIA+ rights in Berlin. Vivienne shares the current laws in place that exclude Trans employees and parents and the lack of anti-discrimination policies especially for those without a “German Pass” such as refugees and immigrants. The topic brings up the Reality TV show “Drag Me To the USA” that Vivienne starred in and their experience of traveling to America. With inspiration from the Drag Queen films “The Adventures of Priscilla” & “To Wong Foo”, the TV show had Drag Queens visit various unique places from big cities to small towns in the US that were celebrating Mardi Gras and being Queer. Vivienne shares how magical the experience was and the cut-out behind the scene stories, the concerns they have for the “Don't Say Gay Bill” and other laws that are being put in place to erase Queer identities in the country. We also learn that in small religious towns that do try to celebrate Queer events, certain “dedicated” hate groups attend to simply disrupt and harass. Vivienne discusses her emotional performance in honor of an Iranian Drag Queen who passed away. The talk brings up Vivienne's ambitions to be a parent, the future of Queer people, relationships with their parents, their chosen family, and so on. Finally, Vivienne shares the pride month color meanings, with a focus on the Orange color that represents healing and leaves us with a message that once we feel healed, is to help others heal as well. And we also join in support of Vivienne's call “Trans Rights for Everyone Now!”~~~Vivienne Lovecraft is a non-binary, Filipino Drag Queen who grew up in the northern part of Germany, close to a small town called Bremen, and worked there in an LGBTIQ-youth group until she moved to Berlin. For a few years, Vivienne is part of different queer and BiPoC activist groups to create safer spaces and host fundraising events for marginalized groups in the LGBTIQ-Community of Berlin. She loves to create shows, hosts and wants to share her passion for the art of drag with as many people as possible. You can follow Vivienne's work below;https://www.instagram.com/vivienne_lovecraft/ Mentioned in this episode:Drag Me to the USA (2022-) The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! It also requires school boards to provide age-appropriate and research-based instruction in human growth and development.A separate bill, House File 9, also introduced Wednesday, would prohibit schools from affirming or recognizing a student's preferred gender identity in school without written consent from their parents.Republicans said the bill keeps parents informed and ensures that school employees can't hide information about a student's requested gender transition or identity from the child's parents.Critics of the bill argued that the changes would make schools more hostile environments for LGBTQ students and risk forcing teachers to "out" students to potentially unsupportive or abusive family members.Iowa Republican U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley tweeted Wednesday that surgery was successful in repairing a fracture in his hip and that he was on his way to a full recovery a day after his office announced the injury. His office did not explain how the 89-year-old senator injured his hip, the extent of the surgery or when he will return to work. A spokesman said his office would provide additional information as it becomes available. One person was killed in a crash Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 100 and East Post Road in Marion. The Marion Police and Fire Departments, as well as Area Ambulance, responded to the intersection at 2:16 p.m. Wednesday. A semi tractor-trailer had been heading west on Highway 100 when it struck a passenger car, broadside, that was turning eastbound onto Highway 100 from the southbound turn lane of East Post Road, according to a news release from the Marion Police Department. The driver of the passenger car died at the scene. The driver of the semi, Zachary Schemming, of Racine, Wis., was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family. The Iowa Attorney General's Office is suing C6-Zero and its owner to force action on an emergency order to clean up a Marengo explosion site.“The suit seeks to prevent imminent threat to public health and the environment arising from a devastating explosion and fire at the C6-Zero facility on Dec. 8, 2022,” Attorney General Brenna Bird's office said in a prepared statement Wednesday. The Marengo plant, which opened in 2020 and had about 30 employees, was in a pilot phase when liquid solvent in a tank exploded Dec. 8 and started a fire. Between 10 and 15 people were treated for injuries at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and neighbors living near the facility were briefly evacuated.

Florida's so-called “Don't Say Gay” bill took effect this month. Signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis, it limits the discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in grade school classrooms, in some cases banning it completely. It threatens the ability of teachers to affirm of the existence of LGBTQ students, and to share materials, including books, that depict or discuss queer lives. The legislation has inspired a number of copycat laws across the country, including in Texas, South Dakota, Indiana, Tennessee, and Alabama. For a special digital-only issue about the notion of family, Jessica Winter, a New Yorker writer and editor, has taken an in-depth look at the history of queer children's literature, and the threats it faces in today's political climate. She joins guest host Tyler Foggatt to discuss what these books mean to LGBTQ families, why the right finds them so dangerous, and how their banning will affect the lives and education of young people.

Carl says it's important for Joe Rogan to wield the power that he has over cancel culture. Doing so is a free speech win for all Americans that believe in the First Amendment and our Constitution. Additionally, Chris Rock performs for the first time since he was assaulted by Will Smith. Recall, that Rock stopped touring college campuses due to censorship. Carl questions if he feels as if he needs to censor himself amongst his peers. Lastly, Carl arrives at the conclusion that Disney World is just virtue signaling over the so-called “Don't Say Gay Bill” because Disney in Shanghai continues to promote boys and girls and princes and princesses to sell their products there. In a political climate that seems to be wholly dictated by visceral incompetence and vice, Charlie unpacks a glimmer in hope emanating from America's Southeastern-most reaches in Florida. He walks through what it means to be courageous before detailing exactly how, in the face of mass scrutiny and public pressure, Governor Ron DeSantis stood up for timeless, eternal virtues and signed the so-called "Don't Say Gay" Bill anyway. Charlie then contrasts the good governor's backbone and intestinal fortitude with other "Republican" Governors in America—leaving you with the thought that we as Americans, especially conservative Americans, deserve so much better from our elected officials than what we're getting.
