Here's a question that makes almost every Australian a bit uncomfortable if they're honest with themselves. Do you actually want housing to become more affordable, or do you just want it to become more affordable for your kids while your own home keeps growing in value? That tension sits underneath almost every conversation about housing affordability in this country, and it's rarely spoken about directly. By the end of this episode, you'll understand why affordability isn't really one problem but several problems wearing the same name, why a property crash wouldn't actually solve anything, and why the real path forward for Australia is a much slower and more deliberate one than most people expect. In this episode I'm speaking with Simon Kuestenmacher, and we unpack why housing affordability is more complex than the headlines suggest. We explore why affordability isn't one problem, but several issues hiding under the same label. We discuss how a property crash would not fix the structural pressures driving Australia's housing debate. We look at the tension between wanting cheaper homes for the next generation and preserving wealth in existing property. We also examine why slower, more deliberate change is the only realistic path forward for Australia's housing future. Takeaways • Housing affordability includes income, supply, migration, and policy pressures all at once. • Rising property values can create wealth for owners while worsening access for first-home buyers. • A property crash would damage confidence, savings, and household balance sheets broadly. • Slow housing reform helps avoid panic while still improving long-term market stability. • Population growth continues to pressure demand even when new supply is expanding. • Affordability debates often mix emotional arguments with very different economic realities. • Existing homeowners may support change for others while resisting value declines themselves. • Demographic shifts strongly influence where demand grows across cities and regions. • Short-term headlines can distract investors from structural trends shaping future property performance. • Better decisions come from understanding trade-offs rather than chasing simplistic housing slogans. “Others will also ridicule and scorn saying, ‘This child is an asura but prays to the gods. It is like a cat offering prayers to a mouse or a peacock to a snake.' This is indeed a bad omen, behavior resembling an enemy, as even after obtaining great wealth and power, an unintelligent person can fall down.” (Hiranyakashipu speaking to Prahlada, Narasimha Purana, 41.59-60)

Do you find yourself wasting time between meetings? In this episode, Tyson shares a time management technique called "attacking the open space" that he learned from his friend Jason Selk & Tom Bartow . Lawyers are very busy people who usually never have any time. With juggling client meetings, research for cases and court prep, there are many tips to use to maximize the time you have. Tyson shares the technique “attacking the open space” which means using the leftover time you have in your calendar to complete a task on your to-do list. For example, if you have a 60 minute client call and you finish early with 15 minutes left to spare, use that time to tackle a quick task.“Attacking that time” allows attorneys to get a lot of things done. The amount of time could vary from 2 minutes to 30 minutes, depending on how busy a schedule is. Tackle that time by responding to an email from a client, setting up a meeting to follow up with a partner or conducting some quick research for a case.It is all about maximizing your productivity!Take a listen.1:19 How to identify and utilize the open spaces in your calendar2:25 The technique of attacking the open space in your calendar4:13 Understanding how different salary ranges view time in varying units

Every weeknight for more than 50 years, CBC Radio's As It Happens has been heard in kitchens, cars and living rooms across Canada. The show takes listeners on a round-the-world tour covering the events of the day, as told by the people who were there. In 1975, host Barbara Frum interviewed Sandra Good, a member of the Manson Family. In another episode, the show mediated a hostage negotiation live on the air with both the hostage taker and the police on the line. (You can hear those interviews at http://cbc.ca/1.6839858). From the serious to the tragic to the absurd, each show brings something new. This week we're joined by Nil Köksal and Chris Howden, the hosts of As It Happens, to listen to their favourite podcasts. It turns out the podcasts they listen to are just are varied as the program they host.
