Peripheral Nerve Entrapments with Drs. Olson and LindholmFAKTR Podcast Episode 13Featuring: Mike Olson, DC, CCSP, ICSCS and Spencer Lindholm, DC, CCSPEPISODE SUMMARYWelcome to the FAKTR Podcast where we feature a series of short courses you can take with you on your morning commute, while you're at the gym, or whenever you feel like tuning in. Each episode's structure is an educational course offering, so links to download the presentation notes are always here in the show description. In today's episode, we are featuring a brand new training on Adhering to Evidence Based Guidelines in Treating Peripheral Nerve Entrapments. Many of you may know that we launched a new course in December of 2019 called FAKTR Peripheral Nerve Entrapments or FAKTR PNE for short.Just three short months later; COVID-19 hit hard in the US and we made the decision to transition the FAKTR pne course to a self-paced online 8hr course. Today's format is a bit different than a typical episode. First, we feature an interview Dr. Todd Riddle, our Director of Education had with FAKTR PNE course creators, Drs. Mike Olson and Spencer Lindholm and then transition into a training on the adhering evidence-based guidelines when assessing and treating peripheral nerve entrapments.Topics discussed on today's episode include defining PNE—what it is and how these entrapments occur, common patient presentations, and the evidence-based medicine “triad.”If you're confused about what peripheral nerve entrapments ARE, you're in the right place—if you're in clinical practice, you might encounter them all of the time and not realize it. If you are a pro at treating PNE, then you're sure to enjoy this discussion…I'm sure you'll pick up some clinical pearls along the way. This Episode is Sponsored by:Today's episode is brought to you FAKTR. The guideline discussed in this podcast is a joint initiative of the European Study Group on Cystic Tumours of the Pancreas, United European Gastroenterology, European Pancreatic Club, European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, European Digestive Surgery, and the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Listen to the discussion between the Education Editor of Gut, Mairi McLean, and Marco del Chiaro, from The European Study Group on Cystic Tumours of the Pancreas. Todays show brings you part two of Peter Mabbutt’s conversation with hypnotherapy and childbirth expert, Sonia Richards. Sonia gives an overview of the approach she uses with childbirth before we explore the mother-baby link, focussing on the effects of maternal stress on the baby. We also discuss how naturalised language patterns regarding birth can be detrimental to the mother’s experience before exploring the reality behind the concept of pain free childbirth. During the show Sonia makes reference to the Royal College of Midwives publication ‘Evidence Based Guidelines for Midwifery-Led Care in Labour’. It can be found as a free download on the internet by following this link: https://www.rcm.org.uk/sites/default/files/Supporting%20Women%20in%20Labour_1.pdf

Despite the challenges, cost and uncertain return of EHRs, practices should move quickly to adopt this tool, recommends Dr. Richard J. Baron, president and CEO of Greenhouse Internists, where the EHR is the backbone that supports the implementation of evidence-based practices. Dr. Baron shared his practice's evidence-based guidelines experience --- from working with physicians on documentation, staff training and work flow redesign to using the data to improve practice performance --- during an October 6, 2009 webinar, Adopting and Implementing Evidence-Based Guidelines in the Medical Home. The 45-minute session is part of HIN's continuing Medical Home Open House webinar series.
