In episode 20 of the Stick to Fitness podcast, hosts Hymsuen Liu and Archie Collings dive into the age-old question: Should you take fitness advice from the big guy in the gym? They explore why people are often drawn to the biggest lifter in the room and whether his advice is truly worth following.Hymsuen and Archie discuss the appeal of personal anecdotes from experienced lifters, acknowledging that there's only so much you can learn from books...  sometimes you need to practice what you preach to understand the nuances. However, they also question whether this advice is based on solid information or just "bro science" that only works for that individual.Hymsuen emphasises that personal anecdotes aren't always enough to help others and he shares his own experiences with clients. The conversation takes a personal turn as Hymsuen talks about his attempt to train calves every day, inspired by Ben Pakulski's calf program, and what he learned from that experience.Join Hymsuen and Archie for a thoughtful and insightful discussion on the value of fitness advice from fellow gym-goers and how to discern what's truly useful for your own fitness journey.Tune in to learn how to separate valuable fitness advice from the myths and make informed decisions about your training! If there any questions, future topics you want to cover, or want to reach out for coaching drop them below!Instagram - @gymwithhym @archiee13

Elevate Leadership with Mindfulness: Lessons from Ben Pakulski

The Essential 11

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 15, 2023 40:40

Practicing mindfulness provides a priceless resource for calming our racing minds, refocusing our attention, and savoring the present moment in a world that constantly demands our undivided attention. It serves as a timely reminder that our lives are happening right now and that we may face adversity with more perspective, appreciation, and resiliency by living in the moment. Ben Pakulski shares his life experiences, lessons, and advice with future leaders. Mindfulness addresses fear and worry, emotions that often arise from concerns about the future or dwelling on past mistakes or regrets. Tune in as young leaders ask questions about life, personal growth, entrepreneurship, and more! Quotes: "Everything that happens in our life is always subject to our interpretation. The meaning you put on it is what you carry with it." – Ben Pakulski "No matter what story you have about the past, you can change it. Every story is just a story." – Ben Pakulski "To become an effective, happy, fulfilled human, you need great people in your life. The way you'll ever draw those people in is if you become one yourself." – Ben Pakulski Takeaways: Understand that the only thing guaranteed to you is life itself. The interpretation of everything else is up to you, allowing you to navigate your journey with a sense of personal agency. Your past and the challenges you face do not define your future. With commitment and determination, you can turn your perceived weaknesses into strengths. Let go of the fear of being hurt or betrayed by others. Focus on becoming the best version of yourself and trust that you will attract positive and supportive individuals into your life. Paying attention to the sounds and sensations in your environment can help you cultivate mindfulness and deepen your connection to the present moment. Conclusion: Mindfulness teaches us to embrace the fullness of each moment, savoring the richness of our experiences and finding gratitude and contentment in the present. By cultivating mindfulness, we can navigate life's challenges with greater resilience, clarity, and inner peace.

Any state is always accessible to us. Joy, happiness, satisfaction, gratitude, they're all right there. So why not in that moment of despair, which is often what it is, why people reach for food or reach for something to change their state, why not just call it back?” 43:44: “We can learn to, to create a specific state, at will and recall it. Any state is always accessible to us. Joy, happiness, satisfaction, gratitude, they're all right there. So why not in that moment of despair, which is often what it is, why people reach for food or reach for something to change their state, why not just call it back?” 48:03: “One of the flips I made with pain is like, pain is, it's just like cold pain is just information. Like, is it painful or is it just information? It's like, yeah, I can, I can just sit with this and realize it's just my body telling me something. So, I want to create the association of this thing is bad or do I just wanna be like, no, I just feel something there. Not good or bad, it's just information.” 50:42: “I have this kind of theory or belief that people who are most, uh, happy in life, people who are most successful in life are the ones who are just willing to go and step into their fears.” ABOUT THE BLUEPRINT PODCAST: The BluePrint Podcast is for busy professionals and Household CEOs who care deeply about their families, career, and health. Like what causes inflammation in your body. I think that's the first door or the first lens through which we make decisions. And what's inflammatory for me may not be inflammatory for you.” 34:09: “People think that nutrition is just what I consume, and while that's one step in the process, well what about what I digest, absorb, and assimilate. There's three more levels.” 33:53 “So first thing is don't screw that process up, right? So if, if I'm eating something that, you know, tastes good in my mouth, but I know it's causing havoc in my digestive tract, everything else that goes in is gonna be, you're gonna have mal absorption issues.” ABOUT THE BLUEPRINT PODCAST: The BluePrint Podcast is for busy professionals and Household CEOs who care deeply about their families, career, and health. Most people think that if they want to transform their body, they want to build muscle. Effort is the big lever. And while effort is an incredible important lever, exercise quality is often a bigger opportunity for most people because it's never something that anyone thinks about.” 03:08: “I think your goal is should be to master your body. We only get one, and you have this incredible opportunity to connect deeply, to be closer to your body, understand what your body does, the way it feels, the way it moves, so that as we age, We're able to sustain a high quality of life.” 05:11: “So quality movement, in my perspective, is the ability to dynamically create. A rigid state, as rigid as you need to be. If I wanna squat 200 pounds versus 400 pounds versus 600 pounds, that's a different degree of rigidity. And on the other end of it, I wanna be able to move freely and without restriction.” 12:57: “Exercise is not the end result, right? Exercise is simply creating a stimulus, it's creating a signal. And most people think that if I exercise, I'm doing something good for myself. And while you are, in some senses, the goal of exercise is actually to create the adaptation.” ABOUT THE BLUEPRINT PODCAST: The BluePrint Podcast is for busy professionals and Household CEOs who care deeply about their families, career, and health. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Erin: Right sided issues only: so after my second child I started having weird symptoms/issues and all are right side only. Like the arch of my right foot, super tight right hip flexor, right shoulder rain and even my sinuses feel worse on the right side. Why is it ALL on the right side only?! I am working with an intergrative practitioner but just wanted your opinion. I have done an HTMA so far and did have some low minerals. Thanks so much!   Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral. Quick question about tobacco/nicotine use and it's relation to depression. I have been using tobacco pouches for 10 years now. Every time I try to quit I find myself in deep depression. My first attempt at quitting resulted in a prescription for SSRI (Prozac 10mg) which I remain on to this day. What are the effects of tobacco and nicotine on the brain and is it possible to quit after this many years? Are there any supplements that would help in this process? Thank you so much for all you do.   Lindsay: Hi Dr Cabral. I have read many opinions that deli meat (processed meat) is bad for you. But, I love sliced turkey. Is it still bad if it's hormone free, nitrate free, and antibiotic free? What are the reasons it is still unhealthy ?   Anonymous: Hi Doc, I'm so grateful for you and your teams work. You are my biggest inspiration and a person I look up to! My question of the day: My local store has a super convenient solution for lemon juice. The product is organic pressed lemon juice. It's stored in a small dark green bottle. Ingredients are 100% organic lemon juice. What's your opinion about a product like this? Have a good day!    Richard: Hello Dr. Cabral, Thank you for all that you do, I am very grateful that you take the time to answer all of our questions. For as long as I can remember I have only been able to breath through one nostril at a time. Most of the air comes in and out through the dominant nostril, while only very little goes through the other one. For the longest time I thought I had a deviated septum or some other issue. I did some research on this and found out about something called the nasal cycle. Apparently its a normal process that was discovered by Dr. Richard Kayser in 1895. It seems like about 70-80% of adults experience a regular nasal cycle in which one will do 75% of the breathing from the dominant nostril and 25% from the other one. The dominant nostril switches about every 90 minutes via tissue that is in the upper part of the nostril which swells up or shrinks. There are lots of reasons stated for why this natural phenomena occurs but in order to keep this shorter I won't list all the reasons. I've asked lots of people about this and its pretty much a split on whether they experience this or not. I would love to hear your opinion and thoughts on all this. Thank you very much for your time!   Hunter: Hi Dr. Cabral, I would first like to say thank you for all you do and your vast and ever-growing knowledge in the health world. I first found you on Ben Pakulski's podcast in 2018 and it changed my life. I recently graduated the Level 1 IHP course and owe you endless gratitude for giving people like myself a chance to learn more about health, forge a new career path and importantly, spread the message of health to my family and many others. You are an inspiration and my mentor sir. I'm a 43 year old male that works out 4 to 5 days a week, I get in my 10,000 steps, a smoothie in the morning, a salad at lunch and sardines/salmon and broccoli for my post workout meal. Job hours are 6am-4pm and I workout 4:30pm to about 5pm. My question is; What should I do as far as restoring my glycogen stores? I have been trying to stay away from rice due to the arsenic that's in it. Should I stick with sweet potatoes instead? I get to bed no later than 8:30pm and I'm done eating my postworkout meal no later than 6:15pm. Should I do solid foods earlier in the day and just have another smoothie postworkout and some sweet potatoes for carbs since it's pre-digested already? Again, thank you dearly for how much you've helped me!! P.s. You/Pakulski should do another podcast to talk new health data!   Thank you for tuning into this weekend's Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right!   - - - Show Notes and Resources: StephenCabral.com/2396 - - - Get a FREE Copy of Dr. Cabral's Book: The Rain Barrel Effect - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral's Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - Get Your Question Answered On An Upcoming HouseCall: StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Would You Take 30 Seconds To Rate & Review The Cabral Concept? I just had an interview with Ben Pakulski…This was a fun one. When you watch, I wouldn't be surprised if ‘aha' moments come popping out at you like a pop-up book Ben is ahead of his age. He's in his mid-thirties yet, acts differently than most 30-year-olds.He's one of my favorite people to talk philosophy with…Whether its philosophy of training…Or the philosophy of growth…Regardless, Ben always comes in hot with some valuable knowledge. How could you not when you're as deep of a guy as him.Ben and I agree on many things. For instance, one thing we both agree on is the process of growth. We're both ambitious guys…..and there was always a goal we're fighting towards. And if something stood in our way we would research…We would experiment…And we would ruthlessly execute until we grab our dream by the throat and force it to submit. And after years of doing that over and over, we both have come to the same realization…The greatest achievements in life aren't the goals or trophies we set out to achieve…But rather the growth we achieved internally as a result of achieving the goal.It is a powerful mindset switch…I call it the mindset of growth. No doubt you're gonna leave this one with your mind blown.Don't lighten up, TITAN UP!
