Emily Mackay joins me on the podcast after a huge moment in her career, winning her first national title in the 3000 meters at the USATF Indoor Championships. Emily is no stranger to the world stage. She competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics and is also a World Indoor bronze medalist, but capturing her first national title was a really special milestone. In this episode we talk all about that race, what it felt like to finally get that win, and what the moment meant after years of competing at such a high level. Emily is sponsored by New Balance and currently trains with Union Athletics Club under coach Pete Julian. Last summer she made the move from Team New Balance Boston to Union Athletics Club, and we talk about that transition, what training has looked like in this new environment, and how the change has helped her continue to grow as an athlete. We also talk about what's next as Emily prepares to compete at the World Indoor Championships in the 3000 meters in Poland. It's always fun catching up with Emily. This is actually her fourth time on the podcast, and it's been incredible to follow her journey over the years and see the progression in her career. I hope you enjoy this conversation with Emily Mackay. Support our sponsors! Covering 2.2 million acres, Yellowstone National Park is a geographic behemoth and, as the birthplace of America's national park system, a cultural giant as well. But since its official establishment in 1872, the bucolic lands have been the source of frequent conflict: between Native Americans and Europeans, and tourism and environmental conservation. In this episode, prizewinning author Randall K. Wilson explores the complex history of the park, from its geological roots to its role in our understanding of the environment and our nation as a whole.Recorded on August 25, 2025

Around 150 people are expected to compete, with more than 100 spectating the event. Lake Hāwea Station's Tourism Manager Richie Lang told Heather du Plessis-Allan originally there wasn't a huge amount of interest in hosting the event, but then a cheating scandal at the World Stone Skimming Championships came around and put the sport on the world map. After that, he said, they thought it was time to strike. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Emily Infeld is one of those runners you can't help but root for. The gritty but unflappably kind veteran of the sport has been kicking around USAs since 2010, and though she's had plenty of success along the way, including winning World bronze in 2015 and making the Rio Olympic team, she's never won a national title on the track — before yesterday. In recent years, Infeld has been defined by a series of injuries and coaching changes, leaving Bowerman Track Club in 2022 and shifting sponsors to Brooks. She made her most recent World team in 2022 but struggled at last year's Olympic Trials, finishing sixteenth in the 5000m, and generally speaking, a performance like that from a then-34-year-old at the end of an Olympic cycle tends to lead to retirement announcements. But Infeld is no quitter, and her race performance — a 31:43.56 10,000m victory outkicking 2023 champ Elise Cranny — showed her grit more than anything else.Hosts: Chris Chavez & Aisha Praught-LeerGuest: Emily InfeldProduced by: Mac Fleet & Jasmine Fehr__________Find everything you need to know about the 2025 USATF Outdoor Championships here:Listen: Day 1 Recap ShowSubscribe: CITIUS MAG NewsletterRead: Distance preview | Sprints + hurdles preview | Throws + heptathlon preview | Jumps + decathlon preview__________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Olipop is a prebiotic soda that tastes like a throwback to your favorite childhood drinks, but it's loaded with benefits that your body will thank you for. Send us a textFebruary 1 is National Baked Alaska Day. April 14 is National Ex-Spouse Day, but April 22 marks Earth Day. We've had these (and more!) national days celebrating things silly and crucial, but we've never had a National Mississippi River Day. Until this year. It's long overdue. On June 2, we'll celebrate the first National Mississippi River Day. In this episode, I talk with Michael Anderson, the Director of Outreach and Education for One Mississippi, about it. Michael begins by sharing a story about how the river lifted him out of a deep emotional hole and inspired him to help other people connect in their own ways to the Big River. He explains how his work at One Mississippi has helped grow a river-based community of 20,000 plus people who enjoy the Mississippi and take action to help protect it. He describes the varied ways people connect with the river and how any of us can find a way to build a new or deeper connection with the Mississippi, perhaps on the inaugural National Mississippi River Day. We talk about the events happening for National Mississippi River Day, as well as for the two following weeks known as River Days of Action. We finish with a few thoughts about what makes the Mississippi such a unique and special place. In the Mississippi Minute, I offer a few thoughts about our work to protect the Mississippi and what we need to consider to do differently in the days and years ahead.
In this episode, which includes an intro (sorry for last week!), Burko and Brentley recap one of the greatest upsets of all-time, Northwestern's 3-2 win over Stanford in the NCAA women's final. They talk Maria Jose Marin's individual win, then give Stanford and Anne Walker plenty of praise for their amazing season and sportsmanship. Northwestern's first NCAA title is heavily discussed, including the remarkable journeys of Lauryn Nguyen and her family. After that, they shift gears to the men, who start Friday. Favorites, concerns, sleepers; all are broken down. Finally, a surprising coaching decision and more disdain for the transfer portal.

I remember in the last 50 meters I turned back to check and make sure like, ‘Wait, is this right?'... To come away with the win – that was just never on my radar.”Today on the podcast, we're joined by Taylor Roe, the newly crowned USATF Half Marathon Champion and one of the most exciting young talents in American distance running. Just a week ago, Taylor took on frigid temps, biting winds, and a stacked field in Atlanta—and walked away with her first national title, a massive personal best of 1:07:22, and a spot on Team USA for the World Road Running Championships in September. Her victory was anything but easy. She chased down national record holder Weini Kelati, battled back and forth with Emma Grace Hurley, and ultimately showed the strength and confidence that has defined her rise from NCAA champion at Oklahoma State to a force on the roads with Puma Elite. In today's episode, Taylor takes us inside her winning race strategy, the training that's propelled her to a new level, and how training alongside Fiona O'Keeffe and the Puma Elite squad has changed her approach. It's time for another Buckeye Retalkables, and up on this episode of Buckeye Talk is Ohio State vs. Notre Dame in its recent College Football Playoff National Championship game win. This win made Ryan Day the third straight OSU head coach to win a national title and fifth overall solidifying his place in program history with a 34-23 win. It's by far the biggest win of his tenure surrounded by what may be three of the other top five on an historic run. Instead of letting time pass as we've often done with these Retalkables, Stephen Means lets Stefan Krajisnik and Andrew Gillis make their Retalkable debut by looking by on Monday night's game. There are all the usual ReTalkables categories, as a way to break down the game. Thanks for listening to another ReTalkables on Buckeye Talk. Learn more about your ad choices. From the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon to the cliffs of Capitol Reef, there is no shortage of beauty in Utah. Still, the stunning landscape of Utah goes far beyond the “Mighty Five.” A wealth of National Monuments, Historic Parks, Recreation Areas, and Historic Trails can be found within its borders, and in the southeastern corner of the state sits one unit that receives barely over 100,000 visitors per year. Natural Bridges National Monument protects a collection of canyons and a trio of natural rock bridges. Those who do make the trip to the Monument find a delicate and desolate landscape that tells an intricately woven story of the people who called it home, of time, and above all else, of water.
