Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Sam BarronSam Barron was born in NYC. His father was a former folk musician turned forensic criminal investigator. His mother worked with severely handicapped children. Stories from the autopsy table and the macabre reality of God's misfits left a significant imprint on his developing mind. For Sam, jazz and poetry became his refuge. He started penning poems and frequenting uptown jazz clubs, and studying guitar with NYC jazz great and mentor Freddie Bryant.

The Lounge gets REALLY influenced by this week's guest! Air Force Colonel (Ret.) and author Carla D. Bass joined the guys! Author of the "Write to Influence," Carla has fine-tuned writing to the point where she helps people with their resumes, grant proposals, scholarship applications, and so many other examples! There are techniques she uses to make a person's writing become more effective and stand out from other writing. Carla was VERY insightful! For Sam, when they talked about grammar and proper ways to use certain phrases & words was pretty much "geeking out" (yes... that IS very weird!)! She wasn't just here to talk about that, she also talked about her life in the military! How did she "get the itch" to join the military? Why intelligence? Were her parents supportive? Who influenced her while going up the ranks? She was not shy to talk about the trials and tests of being a woman, in the 1980s, in a position of an officer in the US military. She let it all out!Little Matt asks where "Write to Influence" came out of, and if was it well received. Carla talks about that and the fact that OTHERS were asking her to teach them her process because of the results she was getting with her techniques! SO interesting how good writing can obtain things for you that might not have been available with sub-standard writing!Carla was so fantastic! She was funny, inquisitive, sharp... THE TOTAL PACKAGE! She REALLY influenced the way we wrote the show notes, this week! Not too long-winded, but succinct and to the point! SO, sit back, relax, & #grabalisten! To check out what Carla has to offer, in the way of services, or buy her book go to https://writetoinfluence.net/!
For Sam and Bill Wiseman, Sunflower Savannah Farm embodies the continuity of life. Everything serves a purpose and contributes to the wellbeing of the farm. Sheep eat the grass, conserving tractor fuel, and produce compost to grow cut flowers and specialty veg. Garden produce supports the Market, the animals and the farm family. Dogs guard the animals and the house and cats hunt critters that would ruin the grain eat garden seeds. Chickens, ducks, and geese feast on the bugs that eat the plants that feed everyone, and provide eggs to eat and compost to feed the garden soil. garden. This is the cycle for Sam and Bill, farming 22 acres in Beaufort, MO. It's punchy, informative, and the opposite of a time waster. In other words, The Daily Aus is news...but on Instagram. One of its founders, Sam Koslowki, seems to be just as pragmatic and practical. The success people find, especially when it happens so quickly often dredges up old complications. For Sam, he's got the structure in place to deal with them; four housemates, a loving partner and a rescue dog - but what if those structures fall away, what if old mental health habits really do die hard. Sam Mac is professionally delightful. A weatherman on Channel 7's Sunrise, it's his job to be the happy, smiling, wholesome Sam we know and love every, single, morning.Early risers, hey?But being that positive isn't always how you'd want to be, it's tiring, and let's be honest, sometimes you've just got other sh*t going on in your head. This week on the Catapulting Commissions Podcast, Anthony is sitting down with the founder of D2D and the D2D Podcast, and high-caliber sales professional, Sam Taggart. Today, Sam is breaking down the foundations of how he revolutionized the Door-to-Door industry, and share with us an AI Texting Platform to help customer communication that we can employ in our businesses today. Sam got into the business young. At age 7, Sam was selling golf balls and lemonade at the golf course. Early on, he developed the skills he uses to this day, recognizing the value of creating your own income and dictating your growth. For him, it isn’t something you’re born with, it’s a combination of circumstance and passion that lay the ground for a successful career in sales. There is no archetype of person in sales--even quiet, passive salespeople can blow metrics out of the water. It’s a series of formulas--once you have that, the rest is up to you. The sales landscape is changing, and it’s changing fast. What works today may not work 20 years down the road. For Sam, an essential skill that has risen to the surface is personal interest and influencers. What won’t change is that people will find value you what you bring and will buy from you. What is changing is the perceived value. In today’s world, people are quick to move on. You have got to be creative, build trust quickly, and grab attention even quicker. If the value is higher than the money they’re holding, they’ll transact--it’s up to you to open that door. There are countless pitfalls when you’re getting started in sales. Often, people forget that the journey is the work that nobody sees. They’ll see people making huge commission checks without realizing the amount of behind-the-scenes effort that goes on. You don’t see the hours Lebron James spends in the gym--we only see him dunking in the playoffs. Yes, he’s athletic, but hours have gone into perfecting his craft. Sales are the same way. Don’t oversell sales and don’t undersell the work it takes. Sam is the founder of D2D, the D2D Podcast, and D2Dcon. He has the vision to bring unity, honor, and integrity to door-to-door selling and sales in general. Often door-to-door gets a bad rap, but in reality, it’s one of the purest forms of sales. Through events, training, online education, technology, and other resources, Sam is showing how valid this work is. These tools all support the space in an incredible way. Sales professionals saw a turnover of 34% in 2020. That’s expensive. That also means it is all the more important to keep their talent and improve retention. Sam looks to improving leadership to improve retention. You can recruit the top talent in the country, but if leadership cannot handle, maximize, or retain them, it’s useless. Is your company organized enough, is there a system in place to be successful? Culture is a byproduct of your design. It’s about having a positive predisposition--assuming success--over a negative one--assuming failure. No one should have a job with a cap. In the end, a massive part of sales is the follow-up. Elevating your follow-up is all about the senses. How do you hit them from all modalities? Sam developed an AI texting platform, Vanilla, that gets a 97% open rate. That being said, follow-up and reach out on the platforms and areas that they exist on and are most comfortable on. That could be texting, it could be email, LinkedIn, or even Instagram. Remember the organizational element of follow-up. Hire an assistant or team to help you if you need it. If you know you’re on the go, put automated systems in place that don’t let anyone slip through the cracks. Either 7 competitors will hit them up, or you can hit them up in 7 ways and make the sale. Having that automated system can massively boost the number of sales you close JUST by ensuring you’re following up often, consistently, and in good taste. Vanilla does just that--and more. Show Notes:In this episode of Waiter Crusaders Podcast, we have invited Sam Vick, a free-spirited server with so much to dish about the service industry. She is writing her own memoir, and today, she spills the tea on inner restaurant entanglements, how her tattoos helped her start conversations, and how a renewed perspective is helping her find real purpose in life. Entering the Service Industry[1:18]Sam entered the service industry for better money and flexible hours. She stayed in the industry because it's nice, and she loves the people she works with. The type of workplace enables her to easily meet new friends.[1:45]Sam was working a desk job for four years in Florida, and the experience was stressful for her. She says there wasn't any room to move up or to improve. She stayed in the service industry because she feels that putting in more work gets more money.Starting the Conversation[3:09]Sam came to Los Angeles because of the opportunities it had, and there's a lot of different options for people. She initially wanted to write which she wants to get her foot in because of the type of networking that the service industry has.[4:13]In the restaurant world, you never know who you're waiting on, but people give their cards if you get that conversation started.[4:30]It's initially hard to start a conversation. When you are serving, there are people on tables that don't want anything to do with you, and they don't want you to speak to them. Sometimes they just want you to refill their water and serve their food. But there are other tables that actually take a genuine interest. In the Weeds[6:08]Sam says that "the weeds" happen often. But it's really nice how helpful people can be and that if you ask for help or when you need help, they are always willing to help.[7:21]When you're first starting a new job, it's always nerve-wracking because you have been doing this for a while, and you need to prove yourself to a whole new group of people.Sam's Embarrassing Moments[7:38]During her first job, there were old ladies that were having iced teas, and one of them accidentally dropped their napkin under the table, and Sam tried to grab it for them and give them a new one. As she was standing up, she hit her head on the table, and a drink fell over, and she flew back.[8:46]Sam saw somebody spill a glass of wine on a baby's head before, which was very funny to her.Romantic and Affair Stories[9:45]At her first job, there was a male server who was the typical fraternity guy. Every time there was a new hostess, he gets with all of them, and they eventually thought that they were dating him. It was fun for Sam to watch that from the sidelines where the guy just gets himself in a huge mess.Training Customers[11:39]Be kind and compassionate. Workers from the service or restaurant industry aren't slaves. It's their job to serve you but be nice. Sam personally feels that everybody should be in the service industry for a few weeks to see the ins and outs and what servers go through.Recommendations, Serving, and Ordering[13:32]From being a server, you are just trying to make them not be stressed or do have them do much. If Sam is trying to think of a drink, she'll ask them what they like, and she'll go with it because she always goes with the recommendations.[14:21]As long as you put a drink in front of your guests, you just bought yourself plenty of time because they don't care at that point.[14:46]When the server comes with a wrong order, Sam won't say anything. If she orders a medium-rare steak, but she gets an overcooked steak, she will still eat it because she doesn't like making an issue for the server, and she knows it's not their fault.[15:33]Sam has had sweet guests in the past, and they apologize for speaking about their order being wrong.Sam's Favorite Restaurant[16:22]Sam's favorite restaurant is the Elephante in Santa Monica. She likes the view, and even though the food is expensive, the cocktails and food are amazing, and the people are very nice.Thoughts on the Pandemic[17:37]For Sam, it's extremely stressful. She's a pretty positive person in general, but there are some days where she wakes up with insane anxiety. It's just not knowing when it'll end is messing people up. She's furloughed from her job right now, and she's happy that she still has a job.[19:37]Sam thinks that it's going to take a really long time for the economy to get back anywhere near where it was.[20:00]Earth is finally able to breathe. There's something positive coming out of it. We're all not having the best time, but we're on a timeout right now.Appreciation and Gratitude[20:36]Sam is so happy and thankful for her health and the people around her and their health. She's thankful that people are doing their part and doing what they're supposed to do.Personal Crusade[21:03]For now, Sam is free-spirited. She's not putting a lot of pressure on herself to figure out what's she's going to do for the moment. For now, she's going to play by ear and day-to-day to figure out what she really wants to do and what her core values are in life.
In this episode, Palvinder Jagait returns the favor and interviews Sam about his experience in a full-day immersion with 3 different medicines: Kambo, Bufo, and mushrooms. (You can check out episode 88 to recap on Bufo.)Sam explains to Pal how the three medicine combo was one of the most heart-opening experiences ever, describing each of the ceremonies involved, and the mental state before, during, and after.Pal questions him about the physical challenges experienced as well as the physical and spiritual benefits. For Sam, Bufo felt like a software upgrade, whereas mushrooms were less visual and more cerebral. It was more realizations about people in his life, especially his parents in this particular case. Sam describes just how open his heart felt and how much love flowed from that day. One of his takeaways from the immersion experience was the power of journaling, as a means to really find what needs to come out. It’s a form of channeling and it plays a huge part in our soul life balance.LINKS & RESOURCESThinking of Starting Your Own Podcast? For Sam, winning is a choice. A choice he makes hundreds of times a day. Whether it’s setting goals, training, or eating right, Sam makes each decision with his end goal in mind. These tiny decisions separate him from other elite athletes and give him an edge above the competition. This week's episode is all about how immigrants can strive for more. I discussed extensively with Sam Effah what has helped him to strive for more.
We start off talking about Kyrie Irving and how he has taken a “pause” by missing 7 games in a row for personal reasons. At what level is that acceptable? Is it ok to take time off as a professional? What about people who aren't of that stature? We dive into family dynamics and how having a solid family foundation leads to better communication, teamwork, and patience. When you work with a team you start to understand that sometimes you have to do whatever it takes to win. For Sam, as a teenager, it was walking from store to store with his friends to try and get them a job as he quickly learned he couldn't carry the entire financial responsibility of having a band 1:15 - Kyrie Irving taking a ‘pause” and what that means 16:07 - Does having a family change teamwork? 18:48 - How having patience helps adversity 22:14 - Understanding your assets to win 25:01 - An example of Sam's version of “whatever it takes” mentality 31:58 - Taking a break from your dreams or sticking with the momentum? 35:31 - Having a secure group of people around you 38:15 - A time when Sam was jumped p.s. The audio was really clunky at times and we apologize! We will make a few fixes and next week it will be better.
Sam the Cooking Guy would like to propose a Toast. Sam "The Cooking Guy" Zien has nearly 2.4 Million followers on YouTube. He's got tons to share about cooking, digital media, and creating a food empire. But for fellow restaurateurs he has one big piece of advice. It’s to invest in Toast. No, we’re not talking about avocado toast, forgoing flatbread or any menu changes at any of Sam’s properties. Instead, we’re talking about Toast Point of Sale software. “This technology will change how restaurants work,” forecasts Sam The Cooking Guy on this episode of the Digital Hospitality podcast. “There's no question about that. The time to be thinking about this if you're a restauranteur is now.” Over the course of quarantine, Sam the Cooking Guy and his trusty business partner (and member of Team Cali BBQ Media) Howard Solomon have continued to march toward the future of food sales by integrating Toast’s terrific operating system. Both Sam Zien and Howard Solomon are repeat guests on our Digital Hospitality podcast. We're huge fans of both and happy to call them friends. For Sam and Howard, Toast POS is not just the future, it’s very important to survive in the now. That's why Cali BBQ also replaced its longtime Aloha POS setup with the Toast POS system in 2020. It was a forward-thinking business decision that we couldn't be happier about. Toast helps you be both Digital and Hospitable. https://youtu.be/YWEuYnBoUI4 A Toast to Toast POS: Sam Zien started thinking about Toast and pivoting his business in every way needed once the pandemic began. While Sam The Cooking Guy's outspoken personality and charm has made him a star on YouTube (as well as a monthly guest on The BBQ Central Show), both traits remain the key ingredients Sam and his staff deliver in person. Due to lockdowns and restrictions, Sam and Howard had to rethink just how their staff could connect with those customers from a distance. “When COVID first hit, one of our biggest challenges was trying to offer a server that was sweet and kind and really cared but now with a mask on their face, you can't see a smile,” recalls Sam. “So, we had to work on the staff. I mean, everybody's had to learn how you can still have your personality come through, even though most of your face you can't see.” Thankfully for Sam and Howard, using technology like Toast allowed them to offer their same signature service in a manner that was safe and savvy. By learning Toast inside and out, Sam and Howard were able to plug in personality for a checkout process both in person and online that was fun and functional. Having a mobile-first ordering and payment platform is essential to becoming an e-commerce company. Toast provides your restaurant with an easy way for customers to conveniently order from you online. And the guest experience is just as fluid on a smartphone, as it is on a computer or tablet. At Cali BBQ Media, we believe all businesses should be Hospitable and all businesses should be Digital. It’s why we call this podcast ”Digital Hospitality.” “Eats by Sam would be a very different experience had it not been for Toast,” Sam Zien shares on Digital Hospitality. “It really would have. We can be quippy and we can be funny with Toast. We can make it feel more like us if it was us actually doing it.” Excelling on Toast didn’t happen overnight. Sam and Howard spent eight hours a day early on in the pandemic learning the software for their staff and making it personal for their customers. This learning curve should be noted, but it shouldn’t keep you from learning. “For somebody that's saying, ‘Oh, I like the idea of it,’ don't expect that you will get it and it will integrate seamlessly to your business and you're going to be a wizard with it tomorrow,” warns Sam. “That's not going to happen. You've got to learn. Your staff has got to learn and then you have to teach your customer.” Howard agrees with Sam’s sentiment.
Has 2020 left you feeling punched in the gut and kicked in the teeth? This episode features Sam Fisher, who performs the Do This, Feel Better theme song heard at the beginning and end of the show. As is the case for so many others, 2020 has brought major stressors. For Sam, this includes income loss (he's a musician and artist manager); sickness (his wife is battling cancer, his father contracted COVID, and his grandmother died); as well as the all too common stress of raising three kids in our new virtual world. The result is a raw, emotional, and introspective discussion between longtime friends Jay and Sam that touches on topics ranging from tackling a pervasive mental health stigma, marriage, loneliness during a pandemic, race, and the toxicity of social media. You'll learn why Sam finally decided that taking on the world with his traditional "I Got This" mentality was no longer an option.
A sad episode of the Watch-men Podcast as we bid a fond farewell to Sam, who's off to warmer but wetter climates in Vancouver. For Sam's last hurrah we discuss some of our most anticipated fall movies and shows, while Sam reminisces over a few of his fondest Watch-men moments. Bring your tissues, dear listeners, and prepare yourself to hear Sam's sweet, soothing voice one last time.
I met today’s guest at a conference in Atlantic City. I quickly found her to be a kindred spirit, as we felt an immediate connection and friendship, despite our different cultural backgrounds. She joins us all the way from her home country of Australia! Samantha Riley left the corporate world and ventured out into the world of business over 25 years ago because she wanted the freedom to spend more time with family to be rewarded for working harder. She has built multiple businesses and grew her first seven-figure business before she was 30 years old. Sam leveraged herself out of her brick and mortar businesses and found herself working less than ten hours each week. Now she has replicated that same system to build her online coaching business, which gives her even more freedom as she’s now location independent. Sam teaches her system to successful entrepreneurs, business owners, and experts, and she helps them develop their thought leadership so they can replace their income, reclaim their time, and lead a more purposeful life. Taking a big gamble If you landed the safe, stable government job that your family dreamed of for you, would you leave it to jump into the unknown? Many people wouldn’t, but Samantha isn’t like everyone else. Being a ballerina was her childhood passion, consuming her nights and weekends for many years of training. As she reached adulthood, she was told that she’d never make it as a dancer, so she gave in to her passion for teaching and opened a dance studio after her brief two-year stint in the corporate world with a government job. Logic told her to stay in the stable world, but she realized no one around her was happy. She made the decision to take the gamble, leave the corporate stability, and start over, even though she and her husband had two kids and a mortgage at the time. TWEET: Logic told Sam to stay in the stable world, but she realized no one around her was happy. @TheSamRiley #chasingdreams Sam’s advice for others What drives you? For Sam, it was her passion for dancing that dominated her business life for 20 years. A split from her first husband put her through a difficult time, so branched into holding retreats around spirituality and health and wellness. She helped people with job troubles and moved into the coaching world. Sam quickly realized that she loved the business end more than delivering the expertise; it was through networking and administrating that enlightenment came to her. She says that the problem is that most people won’t make life-changing decisions until their back is against the wall, mainly because they haven’t acknowledged what they really want out of life. TWEET: It was through networking and administrating that enlightenment came to her. @TheSamRiley #chasingdreams Finding fulfillment Why do so many mothers put everyone else first and themselves last? Sam grew up in a household where she saw her mom always put herself last, and she fell into that same pattern with all the aspects of motherhood. As a result, she became resentful, tired, and unfulfilled. She never took time for herself, choosing instead to be the martyr. It took separating from her husband for her to realize that she COULD do things for herself. That big step has made her life very different now than what it once was. Everything she teaches now is based on what people want out of life and how they can make the choices to get them there. TWEET: Always putting herself last made Sam feel resentful, tired, and unfulfilled. @TheSamRiley #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take--”The #1 thing you have to do is to get really clear about what you really want. You can’t create the actions you want to get there until you know what it is that you want.” OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [2:46] Young Sam’s dreams [5:16] From dancing into the corporate world [7:16] Taking a big gamble [10:58] Wanting more [14:18] The prevalence of coaches today [22:14] Sam’s advice to coaches and clients [26:34] A moment of enlightenment [27:51] Knowing what you want [30:28] Fill your own cup first [33:32] Some brutal honesty about motherhood [38:30] Sam’s non-traditional life today [42:44] Get to know Sam better [47:48] ONE action for a dream chaser RESOURCES MENTIONED: Sam’s Facebook Sam’s Twitter Sam’s Instagram Sam’s LinkedIn Watch The Episode On YouTube TWEETS YOU CAN USE: Teaching is in my blood, and I just used the vehicle of dance to get there. @TheSamRiley #chasingdreams For us, taking a gamble was more about looking into the future. @TheSamRiley #chasingdreams We have to show up and give to ourselves first before we can show up for others. @TheSamRiley #chasingdreams As humans, we usually don’t make life-changing decisions until we are way, way past unhappy. @TheSamRiley #chasingdreams Social media curates your thoughts, and if you’re not aware of it, it can send you down a dark rabbit hole. @TheSamRiley #chasingdreams

Patrick, or "Paddy", Cullinane is a serial entrepreneur who has started and sold multiple businesses and developed several software applications in the logistics and supply chain industries. Sam Cullinane began her career climbing corporate ladders to achieve the rank of Chief of Staff of a multi-billion dollar, multi-national company, before leaving that life behind to pursue a career in music, working with Paddy on his endeavors, and joining him to help couples work on their relationship through their podcast, books, speaking a more. Sam and Paddy have been married for over twenty years and they would tell you they are one of the happiest couples they know. But they weren’t always this happy. In fact, after ten years of marriage, they were ready to sign the divorce papers. During the first ten years of their marriage, they struggled through like most people do: trying to navigate life together without any real tools, realizing they were in many ways opposites, fighting often, having sex less and less, distrust and jealousy rearing their ugly heads, and what they believed was falling out of love. They were under tremendous pressure, as many families are these days, raising their two children and each of them pursuing their rigorous careers. In their tenth year of marriage, they decided to call it quits and filed for divorce. After a year apart, against all odds, they decided to get back together. This time they came with new insights including recognition of the things each of them brought to the relationship – good and bad. Both made the necessary changes to successfully start their next chapter. For the last ten years they’ve grown their love, their bond, and created an amazing life together. They became students of love and they never looked back. Their book, released July 2017, Bigger Love – is their story along with tips, tools, and tricks for taking your relationship to a higher, deeper, more satisfying level. Their second book, Marriage: From Miserable to Magnificent, was released in early 2020. Key Points from the Episode with Sam & Paddy Cullinane: Sam and Paddy Cullinane have been married for 23 years, but it’s more a tale of two decades because their marriage had two distinct periods. The first 10 years were separate from the second ten (plus) by a year apart where divorce papers had been signed on the back of growing very far apart. Each of them had this sense that you’re married and are happily ever after with the feeling of butterflies and Eros love, as Hollywood tells us. After year three, that feeling had shifted through the day to day of marriage and raising kids. They had moved closer to Sam’s family, her job had changed to being on the road five days a week while Paddy’s career had ups and downs. Through the grind, they felt that initial ‘fire’ was gone. Sam hit on the idea of how you reignite the fire, but a better question is whether you actually want to go back to that, or if something else would be better. Paddy felt that he was very far down on Sam’s priority list, below things like work, the kids, taking a nap, friends, etc. And Sam felt like she was making the money and doing everything and wasn’t sure why she needed Paddy, who seemed to give her nothing but asking for sex. Sam asked Paddy to move out, and also got the opportunity to move to Spain for work, so she left with the kids. Paddy took the time alone to face things on the encouragement of his cousin, who suggested he look inside himself at his part in the problems. That would serve him if things worked out with Sam or not since he takes himself into both situations. Paddy realized he could be happy with or without Sam. He had started to make more money and shared that and his sense of being the source of his own happiness with Sam, which changed how she saw him. Sam felt like he grew up, and that drew her to him. For Sam, she thought the escape from Paddy and to Spain would make everything better, but she found herself to still not be happy. She was working too much, wasn’t finding relationships that interested her, and realized Paddy wasn’t why she was not happy. Sam’s style was to compartmentalize what she faced in life, which was starting to take its toll as the various issues were filling up inside of her. Paddy’s style is very different, with his unhappiness being front and center. He changed by talking about it while before he would sulk and hope Sam would ask what was wrong. They had gone through the divorce process amicably, and signed the papers. Their lawyer never got around to filing them, though. Roughly a year after splitting up, Paddy was visiting the kids in Spain, and they reconnected. No matter who else they dated or thought about, there’s one thing they have that they wouldn’t with anyone else, and that’s an equal investment in their kids, their health and their futures. That shared unconditional love for their kids can be used to see the good in each other, but only if you look for it. They have taken the second part of their marriage as a chance to learn and grow together, which culminated in their first book, Bigger Love (https://amzn.to/2UoBT1n). They recently published a new version of their work, Marriage: from Miserable to Magnificent (https://amzn.to/39utvSe), which adds scientific facts into the discussion and honesty they shared in the first book. Paddy had previously invested a lot of his happiness in whether Sam was paying attention to him, and in the second half, he had found his own sources of enjoyment that had nothing to do with Sam. And Sam had made decisions about what mattered to her most, and would be ways to make her happy, too. Those ideas formed the basis of non-negotiables for them to come back together in their marriage. Sam’s job had been all encompassing, which isn’t sustainable. She talked about the idea of things like that being in sprints, but not taking over all the time. Paddy added the need to think about why you’re doing that sprint and making that purpose stay front and center (e.g. your kids). We got into the sources of frustration, and used a story about socks. If Paddy left his socks around, Sam would either be annoyed that he left them there, or, if she picked them up, got annoyed that she had to do it. Now, she doesn’t like that they’re there, but she lets go of it. It does not have to matter unless you make it. If he does not pick them up, let it go. If she picks them up for him because having them there bothered her enough, then let it go and don’t be resentful. They’re just socks. And of course some things are bigger than that, but many things ultimately are not. One of their pieces of advice that’s tied to this is “Own It, Don’t Own It.” That really stood out to me. It’s about carrying feelings like this around and taking it personally. If Sam came home from a business trip, and Paddy was excited to see her and had all this anticipation about it but she was exhausted and didn’t reciprocate, he would take it so personally and feel crushed. He was owning her feelings and taking them as being about him, and then it sat heavily with him, taking his happiness. If someone comes home from work and is short with us, we tend to get defensive. We’re owning their feelings. Instead, take a step back and recognize that they may have had a tough day and it seems to impacting how they’re interacting, and then ask them to share what they went through. Note that you’re feeling treated in a way you don’t think you deserve, and might there be something else there that needs to be talked about. If there is something you’ve done that sparked that treatment, then you can know about it, apologize and learn. And if there isn’t, your partner gets a chance to check themselves, apologize, and open up about what’s tough for them. This week is all about money... Why a whole episode dedicated to money and finance? Well because it’s a source of tension and stress for so many people. A difficult relationship with money can lead to relationship breakdowns, mental health problems and sometimes even suicide. My guests are the wonderful Sam Leigh and Sanae Floyd who each bring some interesting experience and thoughts about how to improve your relationship with money and personal finances. Sam is a Financial Coach and Sanae is a Sales Coach who recently published her book called “Paid in Full”. If you want to know more about them, have a look at their websites: For Sam: http://www.sleighservices.co.uk/ For Sanae: https://sanaefloyd.com/ The TV programme that Gloria mentions towards the end of the podcast is called ‘Killed By My Debt’ which is a BBC3 drama based on the story of a young man called Jerome Rogers who committed suicide when he was 20 years old. He had accrued debts of over £1,000 that originated from two unpaid traffic fines of £65. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIeVilRBAUw
Topics: -Sam has some follow up regarding his “Ubiquiti Hell” from a few weeks ago. In the end, it turned out to be a bad UniFi USG device. -Joe has some wise sayings to share that ring true in our industry and the value we bring as consultants: "Let the Baker Bake the Bread, even if he takes half the Dough" - Persian Saying “Give your Dough to the Baker, even if he will eat half the bread.” -Sam says we are like bomb technicians. “You are paying us to know which wire to cut.” -Jerry has some follow up about two factor authentication being baked in to one of our favorite apps, 1Password. This was brought to our attention by long time listener, Michael Reinhart. -Jerry is curious about the various methods of how 1Password can sync you data and what Joe & Sam use -1Password’s secure options for recovering your security related data can sometimes be off-putting for some users and drive them away from password management tools -1Password has an affiliate program that is fairly easy to sign up for. It is run by commission junction. -Moving back to Addigy territory, Joe expresses his frustrations with the interface at times -Joe shares a tip about creating a custom table view. There is a view option in the column toggle icon in the top right of the Devices list. Then you can adjust it and Save the changes using the table view menu in the top left of the Devices list. -Joe encourages the group to scratch beneath the surface of Addigy and find resources available in the community -For Sam, he’s been utilizing Addigy to enable MDM features like white listing Kernel Extensions (KEXT) and deploying PPPC profiles. In the case of PPPC, there is a great Git Hub project that makes the process easier for those who are not familiar with these profiles: https://github.com/jamf/PPPC-Utility -Joe covers the topic of User Approved MDM and Sam tags along with a discussion of Apple Business Manager and enrolling into MDM at Setup Assistant. -Another Git Hub project, UMAD, provides a nice GUI interface to encourage your users to onboard and enroll into UAMDM https://github.com/erikng/umad

Garrett is joined for the first time by special guests in this, the final public episode of Warrior Wealth. If you’ve enjoyed the Warrior Wealth podcast and have gotten value from it, Garrett's encouragement to you is to get off the fuckin freebie sideline and get into the game by heading on over to warriorbook.com, bigmoneystylist.com, or wakeupwarriorwoman.com The following topics will be discussed every month: Week 1: Power Week 2: Production Week 3: Profit Week 4: Protection In This Week's Episode....POWER Golden Nugget #1: Storytelling Garrett: Jeremy Finlay has been with me from the very beginning. Over the last four years, he has done tens of millions of dollars in sales by taking the belief and concept known as the Warrior’s Way to the marketplace. He has successfully designed and marketed a message that is actually unsexy and very unattractive: admit that you are a liar, you are full of shit, and you are absolutely the cause of all your pain. Jeremy: Most people think that advertising and marketing are the same thing, which is not true. They’re very different in approach. Distinguishing the difference allows you to see the difference, and being lethal at both allows you to separate the conversation. Advertising has to do with who you’re speaking to, and marketing has to do with what you’re saying, which is the message that is being delivered to the audience. QUESTION: What are you doing to level up your marketing and advertising skills? Golden Nugget #2: Stockton to Malone Garrett: Coach Sam Falsafi has been responsible for over 15 million dollars in personal, one on one, over the phone sales for Warrior. He is our lead coach and trainer. For Sam, the idea of sales has now turned into this idea of someone who brings it to a conclusion; someone who closes the loop that was initially incepted by marketing. Sam: Advertising and marketing positions a leader to actually take the next step and bring it to close. Maybe it positions a video as the leader, maybe it’s a physical person on the phone - whatever it may be, marketing positions the leader, and the leader brings it to a conclusion. [mks_pullquote align="left" width="300" size="24" bg_color="#000000" txt_color="#ffffff"]QUESTION[/mks_pullquote] What is your understanding of your position as a leader? Golden Nugget #3: Deploy the Weapon Garrett: Jeff McGregor dabbles in money and finances, high-level conversations about strategy, and where we’re going with the movement in general. He plays a key role when it comes to operations and finances. He and his team are the true foundation of Warrior. Jeff is the glue that makes fast execution sustainable. He brings order to the chaos. The beginning of 2017 was all about building the foundation - every time we took a step forward, it was all about solidifying that level rather than just finding new routes. QUESTION: What condition is your foundation in? Golden Nugget #4: Universal Language Jeremy: Warrior changes your perspective of money. It changed mine. Money is not about money. Money is about freedom. Through Warrior, we change our perspective on what freedom means to us. This whole conversation about having it all is a nice catchy saying, but its’ s deep in terms of the way we express what true freedom looks like in our lives. The Universal language of freedom is money. Jeff: Where I came from, money needed to be kept in safekeeping whereas here, money is used to create new opportunities, and out of those opportunities, things develop, grow and change, and create more opportunities. It’s almost like a multiplier in a sense vs something that gets consumed. The key point is that it's used to create the opportunities for others to hear and live the message of the Warrior's Way. QUESTION: What is your story about money? Golden Nugget #5: Loop of Survival vs Loof of Purpose Sam: A man who is in the loop of purpose has a different relationship with money than a man who is stuck in the loop of survival. If we get stuck in that loop of survival for too long, we won’t have an opportunity to think about our purpose. There are so many men we talk to who are stuck in the survival loop. It takes an awakening message and a path for them to leap and find themselves in the purpose loop. Jeremy: Warrior wouldn’t be where it is if we just focused on keeping the cash that we've made. If you’re in the survival loop of "we have to keep everything just in case something bad happens," you’re not going to innovate. We’ve been able to grow so much because we've kept some cash, but we also understand there’s a purpose here; we’re not just here to keep it. Is your mindset shackling the cash you have? QUESTION: What loop do you find yourself operating from most of the time? If the King doesn't rise, the Kingdom dies! Quote of the Week: "Going forward with this podcast, it will become a Warrior Weekly training that will answer the questions and insights that exist around the topics of making money, keeping money, and growing money." --Garrett J White "What does abundance mean? What does prosperity feel like to you? It isn't about the money, it's about the ability to expand. Money is a tool we use to reach our potential as men. Money becomes neither here nor there in terms of good or evil, it becomes the tool of freedom." --Jeremy Finlay "With Jeff covering the foundation, two things came out of that: the maintenance of the roads and prevention, and looking forward into possible issues that could arise and course correcting before these issues actually show up so we never end up in a dead end." --Sam Falsafi "It’s going to be a deeper dive approach to numbers. There has to be intention and purpose behind the numbers all the way down to the bottom line. At the end of the day, the bottom line matters also." --Jeff McGregor

In Today's Episode.... Welcome to the Warrior Week Podcast with Coach Sam Falsafi, CEO of Wk teaching "Parables from the Pit" with co-host Garrett J White, founder of Wake Up Warrior. Point #1: CrossFit and The Guy in the Green Hat The Purpose of this podcast is to share the message of how men have discovered living the Warrior's Way within their own lives 2014 New Year's Resolution for Sam Falsafi to join CrossFit, learning more and more about it, demonstrating and showcasing interest in CrossFit and runs into a guy with a guy with a green hat. Point #2: 5 Minute Video that Changes Men's Lives to an Interview on a Blue Couch Sam saw a 5 minute video posted from Garrett's phone to join Warrior Week, a program for eight married businessmen for the very first time. After seeing the invitation and communicating with Garrett, Sam had a rare face to face interview with Garrett to be accepted into Warrior Week, after sorting through hundreds of applications. Point #3: The Good Principle Looking back now, Sam knows why he went, but at the time it was a magnetic pull to become a better man after living a good life, pulled towards greatness and awakened towards other possibilities. 50% of the men that arrive for Warrior Week now have found a way to numb out the pain, while the other 50% know that their lives are fucked. Point #4: Warrior Week is a Living Organism Wake Up Warrior has its own pull; it's not Garrett but the program, which Sam experienced a massive reframe that everything, even the weaknesses that he sees within himself is part of him. That shift of certainty from within himself spoke to Sam's heart, finding something that makes him move. Point #5: Reframe the Way You See Opportunities You will have new opportunities inside of the game of reframe and there is no one that has mastered this more than Coach Sam Falsafi because of his ruthless commitment to listen to The Voice. It came down to seeing the possibilities that Sam could access from speaking French, Persian and English and the power that thinking in all three of these cultures to look at life from three different perspectives. Point #6: Lethal Interviewing The breakthroughs and distinctions that Sam found inside of himself came during the interview process, prior to the pit within Warrior Week. Warrior Week creates the structure after being pulled towards Wake Up Warrior. What's the cost of not doing it now? Once a man has clarity within himself after seeking for it during the interview, he has power. We are an interview organization to have a safe environment to share where you're at. Point #7: Storytime with Coach Sam Parables from the Pit was the initial name that we were looking at within this Warrior Week Podcast about men and their journey into the Pit of their life and back through weekly stories and teaching towards True Liberation. When you want to live the Warrior's Way, it's about letting go of the way you were living prior to being part of Warrior. For Sam, he had to let go of the world that he knew, the identity that he had within himself based off of what was pulling him creates the biology on the thoughts around your heart, giving you courage to make decisions. In order for a man to find the courage to purely let go, he has to remove layers and layers of stories within him that a man doesn't like to visit, which is what we refer to as The Pit inside of Warrior. To have the power to confront the stories within the Pit. The Pit is a place within a man with profound incarceration into an unworkable life. Warrior Week was built as an experience and a rite of passage for a man to step from the place that he was today to step up to the plate as a modern man that lives by the Warrior's Way by choosing to step out of the shadows and towards a place of liberation. Point #8: Taboo Conversations about Pain We're going to talk about the truth behind the perfect posts and the couple that has it all figured out and the smiles that everyone sees. That comes down to talking about the pain within a man, and there's a reason why the crucible of Warrior through Warrior Week works. We demand the same results or better for the men coming into the Game of Warrior by shattering today's perspective to see new light. Point #9: Invited to Visit the Dark to Look in the Mirror There's a place that these men are able to see themselves clearly exactly where they are, beginning to receive the clarity that they need to identify what it is that he wants as a man. That clarity and certainty is obtained at Warrior Week, with a Gift that comes on the 2nd Day on the Mountain within the experience of Warrior Week, but no one will know what it is until he goes through it. Once a man morphs into this Gift, he doesn't have to follow anyone's checklist on what it means to be a man but for him to be himself, for some the first time in their lives, all within a sacred place where a man is no longer lying about who he is. Point #10: Permission to Be All of Who You Are The truth is, be all of you, even if you're scared to death of who you are. Put all of the stories to show up as all of you that it's ok to be you. The greatest fear for a man is to die knowing he never took a stand. Inside of that death, to meet the man that he could have become. Looking back at the men we were before, these men that were guided from who they were, Garrett and Sam included, to consider the life that would have been had they not leveled up in living the Warrior's Way. The man that you could become through Warrior Week will allow you to stop hiding from the greatness that you know is inside of you. THE ONE THING FROM EPISODE #1: What can a man expect as a listener from Coach Sam Falsafi? Sam: The truth, whether it's ugly or beautiful. We're exposing stories and amongst all of the men and Warrior Week stories that we gathered, there is one common pain that all of these men experience, which is the pain of being alone. We will look towards the future by knocking on the door of the Pit, which has a guided path through Warrior Week. Most men don't want to knock on the door, so Warrior Week Podcast will bring tools to have you knock on the Pit, deleting the stories that are robbing the power from you. No one is going to do the work for you. Every single action that is done as a man is for our loved ones and family; it's the whole purpose behind this podcast and what Wake Up Warrior is all about. Garrett: The only reason I was even searching within myself was because I was searching for power inside of home. Warrior Week was built as an assurance to ensure the shift. A man needs an experience to discover himself, talking to you from the Pit every single week Today's Parable from the Pit: "In order for a man to find the courage to purely let go, he has to remove layers and layers of stories within him that a man doesn't like to visit, which is what we refer to as The Pit inside of Warrior. To have the power to confront the stories within the Pit." --Coach Sam Falsafi "The Pit is a place within a man with profound incarceration into an unworkable life. Warrior Week was built as an experience and a rite of passage for a man to step from the place that he was today to step up to the plate as a modern man that lives by the Warrior's Way by choosing to step out of the shadows and towards a place of liberation." --Garrett J White http://warriorweek.com
Samuel Thayer — internationally recognized authority on edible wild plants — was one of our very first guests on ReWild Yourself Podcast (way back in Episode #2!), and I’m so honored to have him back on the show for Episode #152 to discuss a fundamental topic for the conscientious forager: Ecoculture. Sam has authored two award-winning books on foraging, Nature’s Garden and The Forager’s Harvest, and he’s soon-to-be-releasing a third volume in his Forager’s Harvest series, Incredible Wild Edibles. He has taught foraging and field identification for more than two decades. Besides lecturing and writing, Sam is an advocate for sustainable food systems who owns a diverse organic orchard in northern Wisconsin and harvests wild rice, acorns, hickory nuts, maple syrup, and other wild products. For Sam, hunting and gathering is not just a passion he pursues on the side, it is life. That may sound unattainable in our modern world, but tune in, and you’ll see that Sam’s approach is practical, comprehensive and well within reach. In today’s show, we delve into "the management of natural ecosystems to enhance their production of useful products," or as Sam calls it, Ecoculture. Think “agriculture” and “permaculture,” but rather than tending to crops, we foragers tend the wild. Nature is productive, resilient and, perhaps most importantly, it includes humans. Rooted in our ancestry, hunting and gathering is how we cultivate relationship with our ecology, gain sovereignty from the agriculturally-dominated food system and protect the biodiversity of our planet for future generations. Tune in as Sam guides us through the principles of Ecoculture, and learn how you can get started stewarding your local landscapes right now. Champagne Drip creates a sort of trap - future bass - tropical house - glitch fusion. Or something like that. What I’m trying to say is stop trying to categorize his music and just enjoy it. He makes bangers for Mad Decent, a recent collaboration with Dillon Francis, and prior to his reinvention as Champagne Drip, he was making drum & bass under the name SPL. Sam drops by the studio to tell us how his alter egos came to be and why they make creative sense, whether or not they make any business sense. For Sam, it’s all about exploring his creativity in as many was as possible. The business, he figures, will take care of itself. Listen to his story here. Today's quote from a section of his book entitled, “True Evolution is Accepting Our Family Without Judgement.” For Sam, seeing his mother as a person created a shift in their relationship. Sam introduces his guest, Yvonne E.L. Silver. She operates Flourish! as well as Women & Wisdom Media, supporting women to master their confidence through speaking, mentorship programs, her book and radio show/podcast. Her mother was one of her earliest “unmentors,” after witnessing her mother's experience being silenced and belittled Yvonne made a vow to herself that she would do everything in her power to not be silenced. Segment 2 After leaving her corporate job and working independently, Yvonne worked with some male VPs and her experience was very jaded. She took time off to reflect and realized that assisting women was her priority. She began practicing meditation and Reiki. Sam and Yvonne exchange stories about their earliest experiences as entrepreneurs. Yvonne was often asked how she maintained success and remained confident, this inspired her to write her book, Women and Wisdom Media. In her book she provides advice to women on how they may change their behaviour and presence and receive the respect and attention that they deserve in professional settings. Segment 3 For her book Yvonne interviewed many influential women. One of her interviews was with a woman named Melinda Wittstock, the founder of Wings of Inspired Business, who played a role in bringing her attention to conscious business practices. Yvonne looked at different business models and decided that she wanted to have a buy one, get one; buy one, donate one to a women's shelter. She found that being conscious in business helped women become better at their jobs as well as managing their personal lives. Segment 4 Sam and Yvonne talk about BANK, a personality assessment designed by a sales professional. They review what their results mean and how that translates into their careers and leadership styles. Using these results Yvonne tailors her coaching to what is most fitting for the individual.
