time I met him I was so damn starstruck. That's Bob Saget I thought to myself. Quickly learned he was so down to earth. Invited me and my now wife on a double date. Ate in the west village outside with everyone coming up to him. He was able to handle that and make sure we knew he was really paying attention to us. We laughed our asses off and it felt like I knew him my whole life. Everyone he met he made them feel important and special. That started a real nice friendship. He had a way of making you feel important. Went to many of his gigs when he was in the area. He always hung around after the show and wanted to do something. It was always an adventure and he was never not funny. When SiriusXM let me go a few years back he was one of the first peope to call to make sure I was going to be ok. He certainly didn't have to do that but I will never forget it. I remember being pretty bummed about what went down until he had me laughing my ass off. When I was getting the podcast off the ground he was more than happy to come on. Bob Saget was the real deal and he's gonna be horribly missed. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Flagrant 2 is a comedy podcast that delivers unfiltered, unapologetic, and unruly hot takes directly to your dome piece. In an era dictated by political correctness, hosts Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh, along with AlexxMedia and Mark Gagnon, could care less about sensitivities. If it's funny and flagrant it flies. If you are sensitive this podcast is not for you. But if you miss the days of comedians actually being funny instead of preaching to a quire then welcome to The Flagrancy. Do you feel a disconnect between your faith and your everyday life? Does it sometimes feel like there is no purpose in the mundane things we do over and over again like folding clothes or washing dishes? On this episode of God Hears Her, Daniel Ryan Day shares how to connect our faith with our everyday real life, including the mundane activities we may sometimes feel are purposeless.    About Our Guest: Daniel Ryan Day is the author of What's Next: Your Dream Job, God's Call, and a Life That Sets You Free. He's also a content producer and writer for Reclaim Today, a cohost for Our Daily Bread Ministries' Discover the Word podcast, and a producer for the Where Ya From? and God Hears Her podcasts. Daniel holds a master's degree from Fuller Theological Seminary, and is an ordained minister in the Anglican Church in North America. He is married to his high school sweetheart and has three kiddos.   Notes and Quotes:  “My story can be boiled down to growing up in a very tight Christian bubble but then having experiences that made me realize that a tight Christian bubble was not relating to the world in a way that made sense for the world that we live in.” “This faith in Jesus, if it's real, has gotta impact how we interact with orphans, it's got to make a difference in these bigger issues.” “How does this faith impact real life?” “So many things I learned in that experience [of giving up things], so hence the ten days without speech to represent those who don't have a voice, or who have a voice but that it's not listened to. Ten days without legs for those affected by disabilities that live in our world and who are often overlooked. Ten days without furniture for those who live in homeless settings and don't have a home or don't have furniture.” “I was still struggling with those questions of how does faith work in real life? Where do they meet? And specifically, as it relates to my calling and my job in the world.” “The use of the word ‘calling' in the Scriptures, most often refers to callings like seeking justice, love mercy, walking humbly with God. So humility or giving thanks in all circumstances.” “The decade of the 20s and 30s are the real transformational decades for us really being shaped from how we grew up, what we thought we were going to be, who we thought we were going to be, into discovering the reality of us.” [On the topic of a Rwandan Pastor who walked the hills of his village to meet with people] “He's just visiting with people. So meeting needs, his sermons, all of that comes from real relationships with people.” “It's with people that real ministry happens.” “In the biblical story we get a picture of being colaborers with God. We're not His servants, we're not His slaves, we're in relationship with Him. Invited into everything that we do being a part of this relationship with Him. And so, I think first and foremost above anything else, that is our purpose, that's our identity, that's our calling.” “God is at work. And God is going to accomplish His work, regardless of what role we play in it. So for us, where it actually begins is in quiet solitude time.” “Even in those mundane moments we can realize that God has us where He wants us to be.” Prayer for Today: “Creator God, who took what was formless and void and gave it shape and meaning, the One who filled emptiness with beauty and gave all creatures their purpose [including us]. Reclaim today in these small, seemingly insignificant moments. Help me discover meaning in the mundane. Ordain the very ordinariness of these tasks or my current lack of them for your glory, the good of the world, and my good. Amen.”   Links:  God Hears Her website: https://www.godhearsher.org/ God Hears Her Newsletter Sign-Up: https://www.godhearsher.org/signup Subscribe on iTunes!  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/god-hears-her-podcast/id1511046507?utm_source=applemusic&utm_medium=godhearsher&utm_campaign=podcast Reclaim Today's Instagram: reclaim.today Daniel Ryan Day's book: What's Next: Your Dream Job, God's Call, and a Life That Sets You Free Watch Godspeed: https://www.livegodspeed.org/ Elisa's Instagram: elisamorganauthor Eryn's Instagram: eryneddy   Verses:  The Lord's callings to everyday people and people like Moses, Paul/Saul Genesis 1 Acts 17:28: “For in Him we live and move and have our being.”

Sanctified Sex: The Two-Thousand-Year Jewish Debate on Marital Intimacy (Jewish Publication Society, 2021) draws on two thousand years of rabbinic debates addressing competing aspirations for loving intimacy, passionate sexual union, and sanctity in marriage. What can Judaism contribute to our struggles to nurture love relationships? What halakhic precedents are relevant, and how are rulings changing? The rabbis, of course, seldom agree. Underlying their arguments are perennial debates: What kind of marital sex qualifies as ideal—sacred self-control of sexual desire or the holiness found in emotional and erotic intimacy? Is intercourse degrading in its physicality or the highest act of spiritual/mystical union? And should women or men (or both) wield ultimate say about what transpires in bed? Noam Sachs Zion guides us chronologically and steadily through fraught terrain: seminal biblical texts and their Talmudic interpretations; Talmud tales of three unusual rabbis and their marital bedrooms; medieval codifiers and mystical commentators; ultra-Orthodox rabbis clashing with one another over radically divergent ideals; and, finally, contemporary rabbis of varied denominations wrestling with modern transformations in erotic lifestyles and values. Invited into these sanctified and often sexually explicit discussions with our ancestors and contemporaries, we encounter innovative Jewish teachings on marital intimacy, ardent lovemaking techniques, and the art of couple communication vital for matrimonial success. Series: The Sovereign King ArrivesTitle: “Lessons from the wise men—How To respond when God speaks”Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12; 6:33; 28:18-20(Commentary helps listed at the end)Bottom line: Like the wise men, when we hear from God, we trust and obey God promptly and completely.INTRODUCTIONOpening story:Billboard: “Wise men still seek him”OUTLINEI. King HerodA. Read verses 18–19 first without the phrase, “from the Holy Spirit.“ Then add it later.B. King HerodLustful, wicked tyrantEdomite i.e. descendent of Esau, son of Isaac. Therefore, not a Jew so hated by the Jews he ruled.Destroyed anything that threatened his throne.Did not know the word of God.II. Priests and ScribesA. They new the word, unlike Herod.B. But they did not act on it because they did not believe it.III. Wise menA. They knew the word of God from 2-3 places:The Hebrew Scriptures would have been available to wealthy men like these to read. The star in Numbers 24 connects Jesus to those scriptures. The priests and scribes shared where Jesus was to be born in their presence.God spoke to them through a dream so they wouldn't return to Herod.B. They knew the word of God AND acted on it—they believed it.They went to Jerusalem believing that the logical place to find the son of the King of the Jews. They went to Bethlehem when they learned that from the priests and scribes. They went home another way when God spoke through a dream.CONCLUSIONBottom line: Like the wise men, when we hear from God, we trust and obey God promptly and completely.Like the wise men, when we hear from God, we are wise to obey his word(s) promptly (right away) and completely. This leads us to Jesus in all his glory. This is where we want to be! This leads us to worship him, like the wise men.Transition:One of the things Jesus commanded us to do was to remember the cross through the Lord's supper.Lord's Supper, 1 Corinthians 11:17-32“For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.”‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:23-26‬ ‭NIV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/111/1co.11.23-26.NIVLet me invite you to do 3 things:Invited them to accept Christ.Invited them to join a group.Invited them to give.Text me at 843-830-2464 as needed.-Pastor DarienLord's SupperExplainReadConfessGo out into the mission fieldPray.Other notesSummary: The Savior, the Wise Men and the Vision of Isaiah From this study, the following may be noted: Oppressors and oppressed are sinners and both need the grace of the new Savior. Suffering does not produce people without sin. The prophet needs courage to tell oppressed people of their sins and their need for grace. Isaiah promised special blessings for the city of Jerusalem. Arabs would arrive with gifts and shepherds would appear. A great light, along with the glory of God, would shine upon Jerusalem. The Gospel authors saw these promises fulfilled in the birth of a child. “The hopes and dreams of all the years” are shifted from Jerusalem to a child born in Bethlehem. At his birth Jewish shepherds and Gentile Arabs came together in adoration of a child in a manger.Jesus Through Middle-eastern Eyes, Kenneth BaileyMAIN COMMENTARY HELP:Exalting Jesus in Matthew by David PlattPreaching the Word: Matthew commentary by Douglas Sean OsbourneESV Global Study BibleBible in One Year by Nicky GumbelBible Knowledge CommentaryThe Outline Bible, WilmingtonGospel Transformation BibleNIV Study BibleJesus Through Middle-eastern Eyes, Kenneth Bailey

The Behavioral Science Books We Just Couldn't Put Down in 2021 With Louise Ward

What a year for books 2021 has been! It seems like authors, editors and publishers have all been working overtime this year to bring us some incredible new content. Books that have challenged our beliefs, calmed our anxieties and transformed our habits.  To help us with the mammoth job of summarizing the best behavioral science books from 2021, we are joined by the incredible Louise Ward, who has read over 100 books this year! Louise is the co-host of the Behavioural Science Club, a LinkedIn group established in June 2020 now with over 5,000 members. If you haven't yet joined the club, you definitely should. Today. Alongside co-host Prakash Sharma, the Behavioural Science Club interviews top authors each week about fascinating new insights in human behavior. In our discussion with Louise, we noticed some trends among our favorite books. One is that we are moving past the presumption that humans are flawed and irrational. Books such as Useful Delusions and Nudge focus instead on the evolutionary usefulness of our biases and heuristics. In addition, we loved that after reading books on heavy topics such as suffering (The Sweet Spot), racial inequalities (The Person You Mean to Be) or conspiracy theories (How to Talk to a Science Denier), we were still left with a feeling of hope and optimism. And if you're new to behavioral science and wondering how to get started or underestimating the impact you can make as an individual, there was an empowering theme to this year's books too. Dive into You Have More Influence Than You Think to recognize how you can make an impact on people, You're Invited to reflect on the connections you make in your life or Non Obvious Megatrends to start noticing more of the world around you.  We would LOVE to hear your favorite books of 2021. Did your favorites overlap with ours? Please send us an email at info@behavioralgrooves.com, or connect with us on social media with your top reads of the year.
