POPULARITY
It is an honor and a privilege to welcome two-time Emmy-winning actor, producer, and writer Mike Manning to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Television audiences first met Mike when he joined the cast of MTV's legendary Reality TV series, The Real World: D.C. After completing filming, he dove into the entertainment industry. He appeared on Crash & Bernstein, Hawaii Five-0, Major Crimes, Teen Wolf, The Haves and Have Nots, and This Is Us. Daytime television fans know Mike from his work on the popular web soap opera The Bay (Caleb McKinnon), Days of Our Lives (Charlie Dale), and the groundbreaking CBS soap opera, Beyond the Gates, where he portrays investigative journalist Bradley “Smitty” Smith. Mike also started Mannifest Productions to connect audiences with entertainment that matters by developing and producing films, TV, and new media projects that not only aim to change the world but also open hearts and minds through art. He began his producing career with the documentary Kidnapped for Christ alongside Tom DeSanto. The film won several awards before being shown on Showtime and was responsible for legislation in California and other states to protect children from abuse at “camps for troubled youth.” He also produced Jinn, Son of the South, M.F.A., and Folk Hero & Funny Guy. His homeless youth documentary Lost in America, starred Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry, Grammy-winning songstress Jewel, Rosario Dawson, and Tiffany Haddish. Meanwhile, The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson, directed by Oscar-nominated David France, was released as a Netflix Original after premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival. Outside of the entertainment industry, Mike works with nonprofits that advocate for the poor, the environment, and equal rights. In 2010, Mike Manning lobbied Congress in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the Human Rights Campaign. Since then, he has received proclamations from the New York City Council in recognition of his cause-related work. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Mike Manning spoke about why he chose acting over The Challenge, being a part of the Beyond the Gates family, and several Mannifest Productions, including The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson and Lost in America. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jake-s-take-with-jacob-elyachar--4112003/support.

Clayton Farris is an Actor. He's a comedian, a filmmaker, a content creator, a great guy… and… he most of all is an Actor dedicated to being the Best Actor he can possibly be. Clayton is a long-time member of the BGB Studio, and Risa has had the privilege of working with him here and watching him work hard and grow brilliantly. His fellow BGB actors adore him, as does she. Risa and Clayton talk about his path and his process here on The Acting Podcast.Ok, so more on Clayton's career… Clayton recently had a breakout role in Weapons, the new Warner Bros. mystery/thriller. The film opened August 8 to a box office debut that surpassed both Fantastic Four and Freaky Friday, following its ultra-rare 100% Rotten Tomatoes score—a distinction only one other horror film has ever achieved. Clayton's standout performance has been making waves online, sparking strong reactions from viewers. In Weapons, he plays Terry, the husband to Andrew (Benedict Wong)—a pivotal, scene-stealing role that marks a defining moment in his career.Clayton's previous credits span standout genre projects across horror and comedy, including American Horror Story, Ratch-ed, The Morning Show, and most recently, the hit A24 slasher MaXXXine. He has recurred on Seal Team. Clayton has also built a robust digital presence through his witty, relatable sketch comedy—writing and starring in videos that consistently rack up millions of views. Fans have affectionately dubbed him the “Larry David of TikTok” for his dry delivery, social spiral moments, and knack for turning everyday discomfort into something deeply funny and deeply relatable. We love his videos and he's shot some of them here at BGB, where nobody is safe from wildly funny and ultimately affectionate spoofing, even Risa! Check a few out here on the website page/show notes! A longtime Los Angeles–based actor and writer, Clayton has spent 17 years in Hollywood honing his signature blend of grounded performances and sharp comedic timing. In real life, he identifies as bisexual and is in a long-term relationship with actress Laura Schein. His perspective as both a left of center content creator and a working actor navigating the shifting entertainment landscape makes him a uniquely thoughtful and funny voice. Clayton is having a moment! And he has recently booked an exciting role on a highly anticipated new Apple TV show, which is no accident. Risa and Clayton talk about this moment and how it came to be. So have a listen, enjoy, and let us know how this sparks your own creative and professional journey! More On RisaMore On SteveSubscribe! John Tobin saw a show at Nick's Comedy Stop in Boston in 1986 and his life has been running comedy venues ever since. “Look at him. He's Adorable” – John's aunt at his first hosting gig! Sure … Boston City Council for Boston's 6tth District (2002-2010) and has been VP of Community Affairs at North Eastern Univ. since 2010 … but really … he's never NOT been a key figure in the Boston comedy scene, which IS the great greatest comedy scene in the world. Graduation Summa Cum Laude from the School Of Dick Doherty (and … AND … The Connecticut School Of Broadcasting) John learned how to run shows, treat people and maybe NOT pay comics using your own made up currency that they can then mimeograph! (Long live the 3 Dollar Dick Bucks) From Boston legend Don Gavin to International rock star comic Bill Burr … If you told a joke in Boston in the last 35+ years, you told it at a club or show that John was producing. And today we sit with someone who's found a way to separate himself in the crowded space of comedy as one of the younger, more successful entertainers of this generation. Desi Banks joins The Pivot to share his journey with Ryan, Fred and Channing about his rise to fame, staying true to his purpose, and how stand-up comedy changed his life forever. Growing up and being raised by his grandma in the Eastside of Atlanta, everyone around Desi knew his calling was comedy despite his passion and a dream of playing professional football but when football didn't work out as planned, the setback led him to find his true purpose. Desi shares a candid moment and calls his mother during our conversation for her to confirm the story he's telling about while she was pregnant with him, he would kick nonstop when he heard the Arsenio Hall show on tv and would happen often like clockwork. Desi's grandmother always said the white noise most kids listen to was not for him but if she ever needed to settle him her goto would be putting on the Martin Lawrence show to soothe him. Starting his career off by becoming well-known for his comical skits on social media, Desi recalls the time where his first video went viral in 2012 on Vine and since then, he has amassed millions of followers across all social media platforms and successfully turned his life experiences into a million-dollar business. Although everyone around Desi saw the gift he had of comedy, he had other things in mind for what he wanted his future to look like. With aspirations of becoming an NFL player, Desi played the WR position at Morehead State and Georgia State. Post-graduation all Desi had was a job at Smoothie King, his phone, and a crisp lining haircut. His girlfriend at the time, didn't believe in his comedic calling and kicked him out which turned out to be his pivotal moment as he moved in with his grandmother again and found a gun wrapper that captivated him by the saying which in turn became his mantra and later a lifetime of making others laugh while touring the world. Opening up about his relationship with God and how he's kept purpose as the guide of his journey, Desi talks about believing he was born to spread light to others and he's continuing to put in the work to elevate as a comedian. Hi, Neighbor! It's The Comedian (John), The Peaches (Amanda), and The Ninja (Luke). Don't take it personally that Luke would rather be out building a shed than sitting here talking with us... John is a little sour today because he wasn't invited to be the Funny Guy at a certain Christian Convention. (Don't worry. He just needs to be reminded that he wouldn't have enjoyed it anyway.) Speaking of conferences we actually DO want to be part of because we actually DO like the people involved... join us at the Fight Laugh Feast Conference, October 11-14th, at the Ark Encounter. Details at flfnetwork.com. Contact the Comedian's family by emailing nextdoor@johnbranyan.com

Welcome to a brand new episode of the ¿Quién Tú Eres? podcast, where we explore the conflict we often face between "professionalism" & being our authentic selves. This week's guest is Barney Abramson. Barney Abramson's creative journey began in the Dominican Republic staying indoors and drawing his favorite 80s cartoons all day long. That creative passion grew into a fruitful career and he went on to become an award-winning designer. In addition to his day job, Barney consults as a creative director, strategist, and manager. He helps businesses and individuals with their creative problems. When he's not designing, he's writing about his experiences as an Afro-Latino creative in corporate America. He uses social media to connect, mentor, teach, and inspire the next generation of designers. This week, Barney discusses his life after immigrating to the US as a child, attempting to assimilate into mostly white neighborhoods, and how that affected his confidence as a young professional. Barney admits that he would take on a Funny Guy persona to seem more palatable to his white coworkers. However, even though he was accepted as the funny guy, he still felt a distance between himself and his peers. It wasn't until he started undoing past traumas that he became more comfortable in his own skin - even at work. While the other kids were flying kites and playing baseball, he was alone in his room drawing his favorite 80s cartoons. That creative passion grew into a fruitful career and he went on to become an award-winning designer. In many ways, Barney is living proof that, despite its shortcomings, the American dream is still alive and well. Barney Abramson was born in the Dominican Republic and was raised there until the age of ten. His family migrated to the United States in the late 80s, eventually settling in Lawrence, MA, a small immigrant town located a few miles north of Boston. In 2002, Barney graduated from Bridgewater State University with a dual Bachelor of Fine Arts and Corporate Communication degree. Since then, he's worked as a graphic designer and, most recently, as a creative manager in the wonderful city of Las Vegas. In addition to his day job, he consults as a creative director, strategist, and manager. He helps businesses and individuals with creative problems. When he's not designing, he's writing about his experiences as an Afro-Latino creative in corporate America.
