Waylon Lewis and longtime friend and yoga teacher, Faith Hunter, discuss careers, burnout, moms, as well as tokenism and access within the yoga community. Waylon: “What's your helpful advice for whoever who are dealing with burnout and trying to take care of themselves while on the whole treadmill of being busy? Parents, entrepreneurs, students, everyone?” Faith: “I think the thing that I've learned and I probably would've told myself 10 years ago is to try my best to get rest and create some level of balance. When I was young, I was vibrant and I was excited and things are popping…and…it's hard to say no! And so I was probably saying ‘yes' to way more than I should have said ‘yes' to.”

Greetings Glocal Citizens! We have another two part in depth conversation with a very dynamic Diasporan. Part 1 goes live the week of the Thanksgiving holiday in the US. The genesis of the holiday has much to do with food--It was a harvest festival celebrated by America's first European immigrant settlers. So, my guest is our own celebration of food--food science and innovation. Born and raised in the US, now based in Accra, Dr. Wanida Lewis is the CEO and Co-founder of non-profit Crescendo Foods, Ghana's first shared commercial kitchen space and culinary hub. She has over ten years' experience leading programs, strategic partnerships, and economic evaluation initiatives throughout the African continent. Previously, she wasa Senior Economic Program Advisor in the US Department of State's Office of Global Women's Issues. During her first stint living in Accra in 2018, she founded Young, Gifted, & Brown, LLC, a pipeline program supporting young Ghanaian women and entrepreneurs in STEM. A Food Science Fellowship Award Endowment in her name was established in 2013 to provide fellowship funding for underrepresented graduate students in the Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences at North Carolina State University. Another fun fact about Wanida is that she's a certified yoga instructor and can be found working with Glocal Citizens guest, Nana Amoako-Anin (https://glocalcitizens.fireside.fm/guests/nana-amoako-anin) at Bliss Yoga Accra training yogis in yin and restorative yoga. Stephanie Laurens Romance Bestseller Stephanie Laurens: Thank you. It's lovely to be here. Jenny Wheeler: I am in awe or of having the chance to talk to you because you are one of the legends of romance publishing. You have been working since the early 90's, you've got more than 80 books now published and many accolades including landing in the top 100 Romance of the Year many times. You have an international army of fans, so tell me about how you got into this career. Give us a little bit of a helicopter view of all of those years. Stephanie Laurens: Okay. I got into writing romances because I literally ran out of Regency romances to read. At that time, back in the late 80's, it was 1989, I used to read Regency romances because I was working as a scientist and writing scientific grants and reviewing scientific grants and papers and stuff like that. It was all very, very dry as you can imagine, so I liked to be able to read at night. After I put the kids to sleep, I would read. At that time in Australia there were only two Regency romances brought in a month by Mills & Boon and that was nowhere near enough. I had already gone through a lot of the libraries and what Regency romances they stocked, and so in order to keep myself occupied I started writing one. I assumed that I would never get to the end because you know how you start projects. I always have projects lying around for literally years, incomplete. A hard beginning in Regency romance But, lo and behold, I found that because I wanted to find out what happened I got to the end of the book, so I actually wrote a book. I read it over again and I thought, this is not bad, and so I started to write around, to find out where to send it. It was my mother who told me, send it here.

He currently serves as a senior political strategist for MoveOn, managing their relationships, impact, and communications with Capitol Hill and among the broader progressive movement. Reggie is also a 500 hour certified yoga teacher and authored a thesis entitled, "Yoga and Spiritual Activism: Serving Humanity from a Sense of Devotion and Love." He has studied extensively with leading teachers such as Faith Hunter, Amy Ippolitti, Yogarupa Rod Stryker, Sri Dharma Mittra as well as many amazing teachers along the way. In July 2020, Reggie helped launch a grassroots campaign along with David Lipsius, Amy Ippoliti, Jack Kornfeld, and Tara Brach called Buddhists and Yogis United. This is an effort to share information and inspire teachers and their respective communities to encourage active civic participation in the upcoming election and beyond. Reggie has taught Members of Congress, Congressional Staff, leading progressive organizations and individuals, sharing techniques for growing peace and ease as a foundation, not an afterthought. The focus of his teaching practice is to bring more peace and balance to activists AND to guide the wellness community toward being more engaged, concerned citizens. Achieving this balance is how we catalyze transformative change.   Connect with Reggie Website: www.moveon.org, www.activepeaceyoga.com Instagram: @oreggieglobal Twitter: @oreggieglobal Facebook: oreggieglobal Are you looking to find your purpose, navigate transition, or fix your relationships, all with a powerful group of men from around the world?
