Extracurricular Sextivities : Threesome Podcast

A conversation you don't want to miss out on! Tune in this week to see how two very different people try to define their relationship together. You'll hear first hand how they communicate and work around trying to express their, somewhat, opposing opinions. When Rick and Tori first met, neither one of them were looking for anything serious. They definitely weren't looking for a 10 year relationship, but here they are; navigating something neither one of them have any business messing around with. They unpack Robert Sternbnerg's Trinangular Theory of Love and discuss different types of relationships defined in a Women's Health article. We hope you enjoy a deeper look into our lives! S1 E36: Romantic Relationship Red Flags

Drinking with Gin

Unpacking some potential red flags in romantic relationships or romantic interests. Ginny speaks much from her own experience in real life with "Chad." A common theme is that we need to trust ourselves and what feels right, or doesn't feel right, for us. If something seems nonsensical, it probably doesn't make sense. And no one is going to know what's right (or wrong) for you, better than you! Some of the things outlined here: Are they shady with their phone or constantly on it but doing "nothing" on it or talking to "no one?" Do they have weird notification settings on their phone, get a new phone number often, or use several different apps to communicate with different people? Pay attention to how they treat you in public vs private. Are your timelines aligned as to how quickly or slowly things are moving in the relationship? Is it too fast or too slow? Do they have long-standing friendships or other close relationships in their life? If not, this could be an indicator as to their ability to maintain relationships in general. Or if they've always been wronged and have a revolving door of friends in their life, this could be a big red flag. Lying, especially pathological lying can be detrimental to a romantic relationship or any type of relationship. Gaslighting, manipulation, jealousy, or constant criticism could be red flags as well. Inconsistency: How do they treat you in public vs private? Do they even take you in public? Do certain things just not add up, like their finances? Love bombing: are they over the top with showering & showering you with gifts, notes, cards, flowers, fancy dinners, concerts, sporting events & putting you on a pedestal? Open communication should be key. If they dodge difficult conversations and are secretive or don't support the exciting things you have going on or support the relationship, these could be red flags. And if they are having to sell you on how great they are...Ginny says to run the other way! No one should have to sell you on how good of a friend, person, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc they are. People will show you who they are. See that. Comprehensive Medication Management: A Missing Ingredient In Value-Based Payment Models, with Dr. Michael Barr, M. Shawn McFarland, Pharm D., and Katie Capps

Equitable and accessible care must ensure appropriate and optimal use of medications since nearly 70 percent of clinician visits involve drug therapies. However, each year there are an estimated 275,000 deaths and $528.4 billion wasted in the US due to suboptimal medication use through inaccurate prescribing, medication errors, adverse drug reactions, skipped doses, or treatment failures. Given that most therapeutic options for the treatment of illness involve pharmaceutical interventions, we must find a way to maximize medication benefits and mitigate harm.  That promise for a more patient-centered approach to optimize medication use can be found through Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM).  The GTMRx Institute defines CMM as: “The standard of care that ensures each patient's medications (whether they are prescription, nonprescription, alternative, traditional, vitamins, or nutritional supplements) are individually assessed to determine that each medication is appropriate for the patient, effective for the medical condition, safe given the comorbidities and other medications being taken, and able to be taken by the patient as intended.” Joining us this week on Race to Value are three amazing thought leaders who recently wrote a Health Affairs article on how CMM should be integrated within value-based care delivery: Katie Capps, is co-founder, executive director and board member of the Washington-based Get the Medications Right Institute (GTMRx) and founder and president of Health2 Resources, a national health care project management and consulting firm practicing in the Washington area for nearly 23 years.  At GTMRx, Capps collaborates with fellow board members to develop and execute the Institute's strategy, bringing together critical stakeholders to focus on appropriate use of medications and gene therapies. Michael Barr, MD, MBA, MACP, FRCP – Dr. Michael Barr is a mission-driven physician executive with 35+ years of clinical and leadership experience is founder and president of MEDIS, a health care consulting company which provides customized, client-driven services and support for health care organizations and the dedicated professionals who deliver care to people. In addition, he is the executive physician advisor at GTMRx. M. Shawn McFarland, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCACP -- Dr. McFarland is the National Program Manager VA Clinical Pharmacy  at Veterans Health Administration in Washington D.C. In the past, Dr. McFarland was responsible for the direction of clinical pharmacy services within the Tennessee Valley Health Care System. In this episode, we discuss the role of CMM in value-based care, the importance of interprofessional collaboration, CMM implementation strategies, CMM use cases, HIT infrastructure requirements, pharmacoequity, and value-based payment reforms needed for CMM adoption growth and sustainability. Frank Markosek has undergone one of the most impressive transformations I have seen in a long time. Not just the tremendous physical changes, but the intense mental changes that made the physical changes possible. Frank joined me to have a very real and vulnerable conversation about his extreme weight loss journey, his past failed attempts, and why this time is different. We also talk about how Frank uses his journey to pay it forward, who he looks to for inspiration, and our shared fondness of tacos. There is so much greatness in today’s episode. Welcome to Episode 3 of the “MY RACE series”. Have you ever heard of the World Marathon Challenge? In this race, you get to run 7 marathons in 7 days across all 7 continents. 7 consecutive days, that is. That's over 183 miles within a 168 hour window. Runners cross 16 timezones and only have time to recover in between races on their flight to the next location. I had not heard about this race that starts in Antarctica and ends in Miami until I prepped for my interview with BethAnn Telford.I was so fascinated with this World Marathon Challenge that I wanted to dedicate a My Race episode to it. And who better to tell the story of this incredible adventure than BethAnn herself. She ran the World Marathon Challenge in 2017 to raise funds and awareness for pediatric brain cancer research and dedicated all 183 miles to children battling with brain cancer. The 2017 itinerary started in Antarctica, then continued to Punta Arenas in Chile, followed by Miami, Madrid, Marrakech, Dubai and concluded with the final race in Sydney. I am so excited to welcome BethAnn back to recount her epic 2017 World Marathon Challenge. Her story was featured in Womens' Health magazine and countless news outlets before and after the race. If you haven't listened to my first interview with BethAnn, I encourage you to re-visit Episode 203 “BethAnn Telford: Running with Brain Cancer". You can also read up on her online, on her website teambt.org and follow her on Instagram @hope.is.my.word.If you have any extraordinary race experiences you would like to share as a guest on this podcast, please email us at QuitxStartRunning@gmail.com or leave us a voice message with a brief introduction and an overview of your race story. An unborn baby’s exposure to alcohol in the womb is the leading cause of intellectual and developmental disabilities in the U.S. The disabilities caused by such exposure fall under the umbrella of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). While it can be assumed when adopting internationally, especially from Eastern Europe, that a child could most likely have FASD what may be surprising is that 70% of children in the U.S. foster care system have FASD. September is FASD Awareness Month and the topic of the 9/16/19 Orphans No More podcast with guest, Natalie Vecchione. Natalie and her husband are adoptive parents of 2 children, one diagnosed with FASD. She is also a board member and social media coordinator for NCFASD, a North Caroline based nonprofit creating FASD informed communities. We're back! With another edition of Being Indigenous in the Modern World... This is a huge topic that spans many different fields of study and all sorts of scientific disciplines, so we decided that this should be an ongoing conversation. On today's show, we jump around a bit but eventually focus our conversation around graduate school, our research projects, and the lessons we've learned from going through the process of doing research with an Indigenous community. Particularly our home community on the Flathead Reservation. Although broad, this topic is pretty obvious to a lot of people. Being Indigenous in the modern world is something we're all facing on a day to day basis, but it's also something none of us is prepared for when we're children. We approach this topic in a light-hearted way and had a lot of fun putting this one together. Here are some of the main ideas we talk about: The importance of historical context An update on the challenges of graduate school The potential benefits of entering a Ph.D. study The value of understanding your limitations Unique challenges Indigenous students face What are your responsibilities? ~ Links & Resources: 11 Lies About Indigenous Science National Institute of Health Article on Syphilis Mental Health Resources for Grad Students: One & Two Be sure to leave us a review on Itunes! ~ Like this show?
