At age 59, Anne Abel had never been to a concert. Ever. Music wasn't part of her upbringing, although emotional abuse and belittlement from her parents absolutely were. Reluctantly agreeing to join her son and daughter-in-law to see Bruce Springsteen, Anne's mind was absolutely blown by the energy and generosity of the musicians and the crowd. Bruce shined a light on a better possible world and allowed her to have fun for the first time in her life. Something awakened. Soon, Anne booked a solo trip to Australia, following Bruce to eight concerts. In her book chronicling the trip, High Hopes, Anne describes literally rubbing elbows with Bruce and the band, experiencing cathartic joy, and opening a path to a better, happier, more fun life. Her depression wasn't cured, that's not how it works, but her collaboration with Bruce has helped her a lot.Wits Reunion Show at the Fitzgerald TheaterJohn Moe's writing classes at the Loft Literary CenterThank you to all our listeners who support the show as monthly members of Maximum Fun.Check out our I'm Glad You're Here and Depresh Mode merchandise at the brand new merch website MaxFunStore.com!Hey, remember, you're part of Depresh Mode and we want to hear what you want to hear about. At 60 years old, author Anne Abel did something completely out of character – she flew halfway across the world by herself to follow Bruce Springsteen's tour in Australia. Eight concerts. Five cities. Twenty-six days. No guidebook, no plan. Just a desperate hope that his music might save her life. This story is the heart of her new memoir, "High Hopes," released on Springsteen's birthday, Sept. 23. In this interview, Anne talks about seeing her first Springsteen concert and the powerful impact it had. She shares what led to her following Springsteen on tour and her experiences at the different shows—even meeting the artist at one point! Anne talks about her decision to write a memoir about these experiences and the process of putting it all together, as well as the hopeful messages contained within.

The River Audio Podcast with Pastor Jack Holt

In today's message, Pastor Jack encourages us to embrace a "higher hope"—not a natural, uncertain wish, but a supernatural hope fueled by faith that brings certainty. He teaches us that this hope, rooted in God's promises, does not disappoint and empowers us to believe for breakthroughs, healing, and victory even when situations seem impossible. Using examples from Scripture like Abraham, the Shunammite woman, and blind Bartimaeus, Pastor Jack reminds us that it's not over until God says it's over, and we are called to act boldly on our faith. He challenges us to rise with confidence, surround ourselves with champions, and step into the certainty of God's plans for our lives—today.Tune in now!Join us for service every Sunday at 9 and 11am (PST) and Wednesday at 7pm (PST)If you received Christ through this message, text JESUS to (253) 859-0832We would love to hear how God is touching your life through this ministry! What do you do when depression has been your lifelong companion and the structure that kept you afloat suddenly disappears? For Anne Abel, the answer came from an unlikely source: Bruce Springsteen. In this powerful episode, we dive into Anne's incredible story from her new memoir "High Hopes." At 59, she'd never been to a concert. At 60, she was boarding a plane to Australia alone—something that terrified her—to follow The Boss across eight concerts in five cities over 26 days. After walking away from her teaching career due to increasing classroom violence, Anne faced a terrifying reality: without the structure of work, her severe recurrent depression could pull her into the abyss. She'd been hospitalized twice, endured three rounds of electroconvulsive therapy, and tried over 20 medications. But that night at her first Springsteen concert, something shifted. For three hours, his energy and humanity lifted her out of darkness in a way nothing else had. Join us as Anne shares how an impulsive decision to chase that feeling across Australia became a journey of unexpected transformation. This isn't just a story about music—it's about the courage to reinvent yourself when everything familiar falls away, and finding hope in the most surprising places. In this episode, the Fertility Docs dive into the complexities of decreased ovarian reserve and the tough decisions that come with it. What happens when only a few eggs are retrieved? When is it best to fertilize, and when might it be time to stop treatment? Our docs unpack the emotional and financial weight of multiple cycles with low yields and explain why sometimes looking at sperm health—including DNA fragmentation testing may be important. They discuss the role of growth hormone in supporting egg quality, the difficult but potentially life-changing choice of donor eggs, and strategies for dealing with dominant follicles, from luteal starts to estrogen priming. You'll also hear insights on high AMH at age 41, unexplained infertility that turned out to be diminished reserve, chemotherapy's impact on fertility, and alternative paths when IVF isn't financially possible—from IUI and intratubal insemination to fertility grants. I just can't wait until my life and mission statement is perfect before I show up online with a lesson neatly tied with a bow. First, that just prevents me from posting anything. Second, I'm hearing a lot lately that people aren't looking for gurus anymore. They don't want perfection. They can't relate to that. They want to watch the messy middle, and when I heard that (again), the realization hit. I write memoirs about how I got through something and what I learned along the way. I read memoirs so that I can see how they got through something. I want to be inspired by watching (reading) them pull themselves out of the mire and accomplish something difficult, because I want to do that too. "We just want to see real women figuring it out." (Tatyana Gosh) So, I'm going to start really showing up online with the messiness of humanity, and without the lessons already learned. My goal is everyday on IG. A reel, post, or story. Preferably multiples. • I met with colleague yesterday, another coach, and she said something that I immediately wrote down: If I show up imperfect, that doesn't mean bad. I've been so focused on trying to rewrite my limiting belief around perfection = professional, that I didn't take it a step further. Why do I think that if I'm imperfect, I'm bad? Side note: "Who doesn't like a badass woman?" (Tatyana Gosh) (Erick):  What are you reading? Valerie: Just finished:   The Let Them Theory: A Life-Changing Tool That Millions of People Can't Stop Talking About (Mel Robbins) Creative Act (Rick Rubin) and Anne Abel's new book High Hopes (out in September .. She'll be on the podcast again in October). Your book is a bridge, not a billboard.” Ways your book can grow your business authentically Builds credibility + trust with aligned clients Deepens your brand story and your core message Expands your reach without burnout (your book travels when you can't) “You're not marketing. You're storytelling. And that's magnetic.”   Let your business offer inform your book—not dictate it Use client patterns and questions to uncover themes Let your unique framework or transformation process shape the content (not just regurgitate) Bonus: You may create your next offer through writing the book Writing How-To Books (Three Story Method series) Avoiding the trap of performance Write with your audience in mind, not for their approval Let go of “shoulds” and write from soul-led service • Examples of what alignment looks like in practice Including rituals, reflections, or creative practices in your book Speaking directly to your dream client as if you're in sacred conversation Closing encouragement: You don't have to choose between success and soul. Your book can hold both. The more you write from your essence, the more magnetic your business becomes “When you write to be liked, you dilute your magic.” Project Runway fails are usually because they didn't stay "true to themselves as a designer" and it show.
