Reviews of the criminally good District Noir and cosy-coastguard-em-up Beacon Patrol from Pandasaurus, an early peek at the retro-tinged horror from Headware Games' Hollowbody, the superb search action of Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and spending a sultry couple of hours with Grant Howitt's Sexy Battle Wizards. All that, and the bleep button, on Ep194. 02:37 - Sexy Battle Wizards 17:14 - District Noir 26:05 - Beacon Patrol 33:52 - Hollowbody 46:00 - Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown 58:07 - FAQ it, or…? So viele Spiele!

It's easy to get tunnel vision with our gear sometimes - certain guitars are for certain genres, specific amps are for specific sounds. But being more creative and open with what we have at our disposal is usually a much better approach. Seeing musicians demonstrate their own creative use of gear inspires this kind of approach, so here's one example that really caught my eye.

Today, I’m going to start to help players who are unsure of what guitars to use for different styles of music. This is a big topic and there is never an easy answer. But when you take a look at the classic recordings of your favorite style of music, you start to see some similarities in the gear that is used. In GBA 112 we get better acquainted with Dan. He talks about being superstitious about songwriting, where songs come from, making music for film, Primary School, the tension between popular music and academic musical theory, growing up as a skater in the suburbs in the 90's, quitting jobs and more. The conversation was recorded a few years ago, in Bristol during the night before St Paul's Carnival, late at night on a roof.
