"This might be God speaking, it's just my mouth is moving." - Ka The weather might be cooling, but there is some heat on this one. We pay respects to two Hip-Hop stalwarts who sadly and unexpectedly left us this month - Tame One of The Artifacts, and Hurricane G. We include music from both in the mix, along with some material from their contemporaries, and some newer stuff that might have escaped your notice. Listen, enjoy, buy the releases from the artists you like - let's please give them their flowers while they're here. Episode 118 is our tribute to the late, great Tame One. We love doing tributes on Take It Personal, but we absolutely hate having to do a tribute them under these conditions. We've lost many great artists over the years like Biz Markie, Kangol Kid, MF DOOM, Prince Markie Dee, Gift of Gab, Shock G, Zumbi, Black Rob, Double K, Len Hub (The Roots), Malik B, DJ Kay Slay, Coolio, Takeoff, Pop Smoke, Hurricane G, Ecstasy, Blacastan and Don Newkirk to name a few. And it feels like we're still getting over the loss of Prodigy, Phife Dawg, Sean Price, Pimp C and Guru. On this episode, we're honoring the art created by Rahem Brown, better known as Tame One, one half of the Artifacts and an intricate part of New Jersey hip-hop movement. Tame entered our lives in the early 90s with witty lyrics, an appreciation for graffiti and a passion for hip-hop. He went on to give us two remarkable albums with El Da Sensei as the Artifacts before he took a journey into his solo career. On this tribute we're showcasing everything from the early days with El and Redman to the Eastern Conference days. We got everything from the Leak Bros to The Weathermen to all his great collabos with artists like Del, Sean Price, Hussein Fatal, Yak Ballz and Govna Mattic. This is our Tame One Tribute. We hope you enjoy it! The recording of the 100th show of The Jay Sutton Show. We gone act a fool! Sit back and enjoy the show as we reflect on our journey to 100. Before we get into the show we send our condolences to Aaron Carter, Tame One & Hurricane G. Unfortunately they knew more about Aaron then either of the latter mentioned. We discuss Voting, Pa run and not voting for Oz, How the Dems came together over Abortion. Also we touch on Russia thinking the Ukraine was sweet and losing the takeover. Tevin Campbell gets mention in the same sentence as Frank Ocean. Sidebar it had nothing to do with nothing but fun none the less. Kyrie Irving suspension and LeBron back tracking his throwing of Kyrie under the bus. Kareem Abdul Jabbar weighs in on the situation as well. Brittany Griner update, not so good news. Isiah Thomas wants a public apology from Jordan which he knows will never happen. Miles Bridges puts a restraining order out on his ex GF after stalking him and stealing his dog. Which leads to me asking if the guys would put a restraining order out on a female, which then leads to me asking if they would ever take on their Girlfriends last name in marriage. You gotta hear their answers. Lil Scrappy tells Momma Dee she ruined his life. Reality tv updates, Method Man, Snoop Dogg, and R. Kelly updates. And a whole lot more on this fun filled show. So press play and be sure to subscribe. #IntelligentIgnorance #TheJaySuttonShow #SyndicatedTV
Episode 117 is our chill-out session. We're playing some of the finest jazz, lo-fi hip-hop for your listening pleasure. Grab a bottle of your favorite brown stuff, roll-up something green and just vibe-out to an episode that we guarantee will have you pressing replay. We've got music from Blackalicious, All Natural, Common Market, Kid Abstrakt, Awon, Binary Star, Last Jazz Club, People Under The Stairs, MF DOOM, Digable Planets, The Artifacts, Little Brother, Zion I and Blu & Exile to name a few. But before we get started, we have to take time to acknowledge the late, great, Tame One. This is becoming way too familiar, but we've lost yet another legend in hip-hop. Episode 118 was scheduled to be our J Dilla Tribute, but we felt honoring Tame One next was the only logical choice. So, Episode 118 will be our Tame One Tribute followed by our 2-part J Dilla Tribute. RIP to Hurricane G, Takeoff and Tame Dizzle. www.takeitpersonalradio.com Follow us on Instagram @takeitpersonal Online store: https://take-it-personal.creator-spring.com/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal
Real weirdos are hard to find. Sure there are rappers who attempt to project strangeness but the vast majority come across inauthentic or unlistenable (or both). Every so often a true eccentric grabs the mic and reorients our ideas about how wavy this art form can be. Fatboi Sharif is one such artist. Verbose, macabre, and enigmatic the New Jersey rapper has amassed a devoted following over the past couple years by releasing a string of authentically weird joints with producers like Roper Williams and Lungs/Lonesword. His latest offering Preaching in Havana is a collaboration with producer Noface. The duo have crafted a project that is eerie and unsettling in all the right ways. Hosts Nate Le Blanc and David Ma talk to Sharif and Noface about how Havana came into being and the mystique they have both cultivated. During the into segment Demone and Nate talk about Eminem's Rock and Rock Hall of Fame Induction and the tragic passings of Tame One and Hurricane G. Hurricane G is the amazing singer of a band that is in this exciting renegade maelstrom that is happening in Austin, Texas. Böndbreakr are crossing over musical influences and styles bringing together punk rock, metal, thrash, hardcore with a dash of psychedelia and a lot of commentary that addresses the pain and grief that that society inflicts on marginalised communities, in particular on the lives of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour. This is another of those open, from-the-heart and free flowing conversations that looks at Gerilyn's lived experiences of anxieties, overcoming self doubt, showing up with her whole being and asking questions around our individual willingness to not only educate ourselves but to change our behaviours. Thank you , G.I Wanna Jump Like Dee Dee is a music podcast that does music interviews differently. I'm Giles Sibbald and I'm talking to extraordinary musicians, DJ's and producers about how they use an experimental mindset in their lives to amplify their own creativity, pursue new challenges, overcome fears and bounce back from mistakes.- brought to you by Hey Sunday, the mothership of the experimental mindset™.- podcast logo and art by Tide Adesanya, Coppie and Paste.
Hey good people! During the summer we’ve been listening to some classic material by Hurricane G, Biz Markie (R.I.P.) and Masta Ace and in this mix we’ve put some of their music together with some new releases by Georgia Anne Muldrow and her latest album ”VWETO III”. When the Primavera Sound Festival lineup was announced back in December, one artist in particular made me gasp: Ivy Queen. I wasn’t expecting a reggaeton legend to be featured in one of Spain’s (and the world’s) biggest festivals, sharing the bill with acts like Erykah Badu and Tame Impala. But 2019 is the year of the self-proclaimed “New Normal” at Primavera, and it shows, with women and urban Latinx artists front and center among the 200+ artists who will be playing in 8 stages and different venues in Barcelona over the course of a week. In this edition of LATINXTRANSFER, a look at some of the Latinx artists who will be performing at Primavera Sound 2019 including Nathy Peluso, DJ Playero, Cuco and Empress Of. There are really too many Latinxs to showcase in a 1-hour show, be sure to check out Hurricane G and Tony Touch and others as part of Yung Beef’s curated urban stage, for example. In this episode of LOTR the Lasers discuss Rihanna vs. Teairra Mari, Rihanna’s many hits and also her general queendom. Jay reflects on hours spent researching elderly strangers’ prescription medication (to what end? you decide). Speaking of the elderly (jk jk), Def Squad members are discussed, Mike puts Akil onto Hurricane G and Jay wonders about Erick Sermon’s brush with a window. The Lasers move on to such hot topics as club etiquette (fingers in the face is a no-no) and mumblerap and its founding father (none other than 50 Cent, they posit). The subject of durags emerges, specifically as durags relate to Memphis Bleek but then also to everyone else. Captain America is painted as hero by Akil, villain by Jay, and as a possible and probable racist by Mike. Speaking of probable racists (Clint Eastwood – jk jk), Akil does a mean spaghetti western whistle. Finally, as the conversation winds down, Mike claims to enunciate but clearly doesn’t.
