“If you really try to give too much instruction at this age, you can really cause a child to struggle later on. So, just being supportive and motivating them to do the best of their abilities is really what we're going for.” The Student Fitness Experts podcast is a very intentional venture that aims to create a playful movement to help students grow up with inner confidence and self-awareness and a healthy body and mind.  Fundamental movement skills are important through the ages of two to five. Children grow and learn through their own developmental experiences, which creates unique challenges to their balance skills. In Part Three of the Fundamental Movement Skills Series, Karen and Farah discuss how we give children just the right amount of and right kind of instructions. Sometimes it can be tricky to balance the child's mental development with their physical progress. In this age range, they should develop skills for purposeful play where they can explore life independently! Tune in to understand how to help children find balance and set them up for ultimate success! TimeStamps: [00:30]  Understanding physical literacy [03:53]  Having balance across different ages [05:08]  Is there a long term advantage of future sports? [08:43]  About a child's way of finding balance [13:36]  Why should you limit the instructions you give children? [19:13]  Communicating with your kids in the right way [21:38]  What kind of instructions should you give your children? Quotes: “It [Physical Literacy] describes the ability of a person to instruct their body to confidently perform any action accurately. And it's the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for maintaining purposeful physical pursuits and activities throughout the course of life.” “I'm a huge proponent of just supporting the skills supporting the skills [...], while every child is unique, preschool students thrive with activities that focus on the means, rather than the ends. ” “By understanding these range of capabilities of your students, you can ensure that they can all participate, find success, you know, and feel included in the class.” “You're teaching them body awareness, they're also learning spatial awareness, they're learning how to start and stop their body, they're getting core work in there. So there's a lot of different things that are included in these games that might seem really simple, and there's lots of different ways to play this game and challenge them.” “We want to teach them to hone in on that skill, so that they learn that there's always ways that they can challenge themselves in different ways.” “If you really try to give too much instruction at this age, you can really cause a child to struggle later on. So, just being supportive and motivating them to do the best of their abilities is really what we're going for.”

THE COLLECTIVE FREEDOM PROJECTThis episode is Part Two in the Collective Freedom Project four-part series with Bourbon 'n BrownTown. The Collective Freedom Project (CFP) is a movement media and resource hub that tells the stories of the local and regional efforts where people — both U.S. citizens and non U.S. citizens — are coming together to fight unique campaigns against criminalization in their communities. From Chicago to California, Atlanta to Texas, activists, organizers, and communities are rising up to fight against criminalization and violence in varied yet connected forms.GUESTSRebecca Sanchez is the daughter of Jose and Rosalia Sanchez, the youngest of 8 and a tia to 17; from a tiny town in East Texas. Rebecca is an artist, educator, and the organizing manager with Grassroots Leadership, a nonprofit working to end prison profiteering, mass incarceration, deportation, and criminalization. She is also a member of Communities of Color United; an intergenerational grassroots group pushing for racial equity in Austin. All of this work is guided by the lens of artivism, personal/familial struggles, and her experience as a former art teacher in a commitment to center intergenerational creativity, healing, and autonomy.David Johnson is an organizer and policy and research analyst who draws upon his personal experience with white supremacist culture to work towards a collective divestment from harmful and violent practices, policies, and systems, while expanding investment in people-centered responses to community needs. In addition to his role at Grassroots Leadership, he is a member of Texas Advocates for Justice, the Community Strategy Team for the University of Texas' Dell Medical School Department of Population Health, the Reimagine Public Safety Task Force for the City of Austin, the Mayor's Gun Violence Task Force for the City of Austin, and the board of BRAVE Communities. He is also a community ambassador for Solstice Recovery Foundation, and the co-founder of the Coalition to Abolish Slavery - Texas (CAST).OVERVIEWBrownTown links up with Rebecca Sanchez & David Johnson of Grassroots Leadership in Austin, Texas. In Part Three of the Collective Freedom Project series, they discuss the the socio-political climate in Austin, the #DefundAPD campaign(s); #ShutDownHutto and other campaigns to close or halt construction of new jails; and the intersections of technology, surveillance, and gentrification.BrownTown and guests cover several interrelated topics throughout the course of their time together. After Rebecca and David (or "DJ") share more about their backgrounds, they quickly debunk the myth of Austin as the liberal blue bubble in a sea of red Texas, explaining the history, the municipal political system (weak Mayor vs. strong Mayor), and the social facade. DJ likens the 1-35 interstate in Texas with the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago explaining how they were both built intentionally to subjugate Black people. The team continues to sift through various topics including the affect of the George Floyd uprisings on specifically budget campaigns, #NoCopAcademy (1, 2), academic institutions and private companies' relationship with police, and the role of technology in surveillance and furthering social control. BrownTown, Rebecca, and DJ close out the an introspective note that abolishing police is more than just the defunding and dismantling the local PD but abolishing the police in our heads, in our hearts, and creating new relationships between people and our natural environment.Through the CFP, Dani Marrero Hi created a micro-doc on the various campaigns throughout Texas, which you can find among other cities/regions' videos, podcast episodes, and a plethora of resources on CollectiveFreedomProject.org/Multimedia.--Mentioned in the episode:Moving Texas ForwardMichael Ramos (1, 2, 3)Austin City-Community Reimagining Public Safety Task Force#NoNewYouthJail in Seattle, WashingtonAustin's Big Secret: How Big Tech and Surveillance Are Increasing PolicingStrategic Decision Support Centers in ChicagoShot Spotter in Chicago (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)Dave Chappell, "Racism out in the open"Follow the Collective Freedom Project on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.Follow Grassroots Leadership on their site, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. SACRED is an alternative life improvement system aimed at helping individuals bring all parts of self into balance and into a heightened state of awareness.  SACRED serves to recalibrate the human energy field using a unique delivery, effectively training the subtle energies surrounding a person to support a heightened state of enlightenment. SACRED incorporates meditation, tapping, breath work, affirmations, images channeled through intuitive communications and a gentle daily practice to reinforce the energy field shift. During this mini-series we will explore with guests various SACRED topics, specifically focused on Unity and Connectivity. In Part Three, Paul and his special guests, Aimee Mosco and Dr Kimberlee Woods, talk about unity, plus connectivity with the universe and ourselves, along with special guest, Bob Conlin. KEY TAKEAWAYS It sometimes takes a great disruption to show us that the love we are searching for has been in front of us the whole time. Love is the finest and most proven way of defeating fear. By showing love in the face of challenge, we are able to keep trauma and heartache at bay. Challenge forces us to think more primally, and to act upon instinct. It can be difficult, but can also demonstrate the true version of ourselves that only shows up in these moments of need. Need causes us to connect like no other time. It hits an internal, hidden reset button that causes us to function upon pure feelings. BEST MOMENTS 'We poured everything into fighting for this baby, from an energy and prayer perspective' 'I love how you use creativity to keep the feelings that come up from trauma at bay' 'Not every husband would show up like this' 'There's nothing like a traumatic event - it's like the ultimate reset button' VALUABLE RESOURCES Mastering The Game Of Life       ABOUT THE GUESTS Aimée Mosco, author and Co-Founder of Intentional Healing Systems, LLC. Admittedly at a pace, at times uncomfortable, they were intently clear on who they were, what they wanted, and why they wanted it.  This clarity is what they believe is the recipe for creating magic everywhere inside of the relationships to ourselves and those we love. A professional and certified coach team, married with a miracle baby named Forest, they believe anything is possible when we intentionally LIVE IN LOVE and get supported to do so. Their approach to love has been featured across the globe on numerous social media platforms, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, Good Morning America, and ABC World News Tonight. www.wemeetagaincoaching.com ABOUT THE HOST One thing that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – something he is totally aware of.  He definitely subscribes to being one of those mentioned the iconic ‘Think Different’ Apple commercial narrated by Steve Jobs in 1977: “Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules.  You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do!” Paul has a long and distinguished history of coaching & mentoring – particularly focusing on helping people make the transition from pain to purpose; a journey he has made himself, from the depths of a deep dark existence, to now living a life of happiness and prosperity. Through this Mastering The Game Of Life podcast, and books he has been involved in – including being a best-selling co-author – Paul also helps others to get their own inspirational messages and stories out into the world; as well as offering support to many charitable organisations, in their development & fund-raising. “Remember – Mastering The Game Of Life Starts, By Embracing Our Hearts!” CONTACT METHODS Tel: +44 (0) 115 7270101 E-mail: Paul@Paul-Lowe.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/IAMPaulLowe Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/IamPaulLowe/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-d-lowe-7a78332a/  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In Part Three (of three) of this miniseries on The Beach Beach Boys and The Grateful Dead, we finally reach our destination in space and time--the Fillmore East on April 27, 1971. This is a two hour episode, and in it, I compare and contrast the career arcs of each band leading up to the gig. In 1970, The Beach Boys released a single, "Add Some Music To Your Day", which only reached #64 on the US pop chart. This was embarrassing for them because it reaffirmed how unpopular they'd become. In 1970, The Grateful Dead released a single, "Truckin'", which only reached #64 on the US pop chart. This was embarrassing for them because #64 was perilously close to the Top 40--which was a place they had no intention of getting cozy with. Still, despite the two bands' contrasting ideas of success, there was a great admiration between them as well as shared influences. I read from several accounts of this concert, from books and articles, and note the wide contrast between descriptions. The subtitle of this episode, "Honest. Not Perfect.", comes from a snatch of Brian Wilson studio chatter in early 1967. He's instructing his brother Carl on how to sing a certain part and says that "it doesn't have to be perfect, just kind of honest", and I took that phrase and unpacked it. Threw stuff everywhere. In fact I made quite a philosophical/psychological/psychedelicized mess all over the place and hope you can deal with it. The reward is the concert. Dennis and Billy having a blast despite very different drumming styles. Carl and Jerry trading a solo. Bobby, Al and Carl singing together. The Fillmore Dead audience cheering wildly for The Beach Boys (drowning out the one or two hecklers). I hope you enjoy this episode and thanks for listening.

Yet there are legions of the great unwashed, hapless salespeople wandering around, spending all of their time pitching to clients.  There are in tell mode to sell, as opposed to using questions to sell.   The client has some top of mind needs that revolve around them achieving the outcomes they desire.  We need to understand what results the client is looking for.  In the classic example, clients don't buy drills.  They buy results - holes.  They want to hit targets, gain market share, increase revenues, manage costs, improve their systems, etc. There will be some buying criteria involved.  Budget is often what we think of here.  We want to know how much budget they have and then we can cut our cloth to match.  We should never forget that time and quality are also going to be key components here as well.  We need to find out more on these fronts.  A client assured me they had no budget for our training.  Digging in, I found they did have budget if we spread the payment over two financial years.  It wasn't money, it was time, in this case.   Practical details need to be found.  These are often the spec components of design, shape, colour, size, weight, durability, etc.  Do we actually have what they need or not?  If we don't, then stop trying to slam the square peg into the round hole baby and move on. Find that client whose needs profile better matches what we do best.   Although we are dealing with company representatives, they also have personal needs.  What is their WHY?  It could be to keep their boss happy, to rise through  the ranks, to get a big bonus, to snag a promotion, to be appreciated, etc.  We need to know that, because if we can frame our solution in terms of their WHY, then that is a very powerful differentiator from our rivals.   We go through question phases to uncover these pieces of information.  We can start by getting them focused on the gap between where they are now and where they need to be.  We can ask, “where would you like to be in six to twelve months from now?”.  The focus here is on outcomes.  To gauge the gap, our next question will be, “given those goals, where are you today?”.  Now we can find out if there is an opening here for us or not.   I had been chasing a buyer for seven straight years with no results.  It was a highly profitable business.  The President wouldn't even agree to meet with me and then he suddenly retired. I thought “bingo” – time to try again with the new guy.  While I was sitting there in the meeting going through this discovery process, the most unpleasant idea occurred to me.  “He thinks they can close the gap between where they are now and where they want to be by themselves through their internal resources”.  I call that an extremely bad meeting. There was no way into that company for me, because I didn't have a solution they needed.    Trust me, I tried to make that gap between where they are now and where they want be seem like the Grand Canyon.  Ultimately I failed to do that and so no deal and sayonara.  What we are trying to do in this step is flesh out the negative implications for the company, if they don't buy our solution.  Company representatives often mistakenly think that taking no action has no cost.  That is not true.  There are the opportunity costs associated with no action.  Markets move, business is fluid, nothing stays the same. They are also not operating in a vacuum, where their competitors are in some form of cryogenic suspended animation.   Once we know where they are today and where they want to be, we need to understand what is the change they need to make to close the gap.  If they think they can make that change by themselves, it is curtains for us.  If we are able to find a reason to supply the change methodology they need, then we need to go for gold.  We need to find out that invididual's personal WHY.    This is very difficult with Japanese buyers.  Even at the conceptual level, this is not something they easily grasp.  When your career progression is based on age and stage, unrelated to the outcomes you produce and you get a set bonus the same as everyone else, the personal payoff is bit opaque.  In Japan it will usually be personal recognition by their team or their peers, as someone doing their job well.  So we need to ask things like, “If we can achieve the outcomes you have mentioned, how will that make your team members feel?”, “If this works, will your team appreciate the results it brings, making their job easier?”, “If this is a success, will your colleagues be appreciative?”.   In Part Three, we will explore how to engage decision makers with more interactive selling techniques.  We will look at how to engage buyers when they are trapped in a little screen online, in a way that builds trust and breaks through the barriers the client and the technology have put in place.

We find a lot of ways to compare and contrast these three distinct rooms, and of course we both "RATE THAT THRONE ROOM." Plus, in Current Events we commiserate over what could have been at Star Wars Celebration 2020 and discuss John Boyega's recent GQ interview.

In Part One we looked at the opportunity available for people who want to improve their presentation, persuasion and speaking skills.  We delved into why are we speaking at all and who are we speaking to, which will define the approach we will take. The planning part is an obvious, but usually overlooked, component of the presentations' world Ironically, we begin with designing the end of the speech.  How close can we get to compressing the key point of the talk into a single sentence.  This discipline really forces us to be clear and concise about what it is we are going to say.  So we start by writing the two closes of the talk.  The first close is for prior to the Q&A, assuming there is going to be Q&A.  The second is for after the Q&A.  Many speakers just allow the Q&A session to define the whole presentation.  The issue here though is that, as the speaker, you have no control over what people will want to ask you.  It is always astonishing to me, to hear audience members ask questions which are well off topic and unrelated to the point of the presentation.  Why they do that is a mystery, but regardless, as the presenter there is nothing you can do to shepherd the audience toward asking relevant and insightful questions, to further tease out the gold from your humble offering. This means the final impression from your talk, can be left dangling, wrapped around a remote and unremarkable subject, light years from the point you were making.  We must seize back control.  After the end of the Q&A, we repeat the key points we want the audience to have ringing in their skulls, as they file from the venue. If you get a hard time during the Q&A, ranging from pushback to outright hostility, deal with it the same way.  Do not allow your mouth to advance ahead of your brain and storm forth with the first random answer that pops into your head.  Repeat the question in a substantially watered down form, which will suck all the invective and life power emanating from this incoming verbal missile.  If they say, “This is outrageous, your argument has been completely disavowed by all of the top experts, and you have the gall to be repeating it here today.  In front of us.  It is an insult”.  You sweetly paraphrase, “The question was about expert opinion on this subject”.  That reply took four seconds. You continue to buy yourself some more thinking time, by making a bland filler statement, such as, “This issue has aroused a lot of interest in our industry”.  Another four seconds. Having eight seconds to think first is a world of difference to opening up your mouth and letting “whatever” pour forth. With these eight seconds, you are now fully mentally prepared to form your well considered reply.  When you do so, hold the questioner's gaze for the first six seconds and then blank them for the rest of the proceedings.  You show you are not afraid of them and then you spread your answer to all the other people in the room, engaging them with your eye contact.  When you ignore the hostile questioner thereafter, you quickly drain all their negative, invective power from them. Back to the structure of the talk.  Having boiled down the whole brilliant concoction to a single sentence, we now work on the construction of the presentation.  We need around three key pieces of evidence to support our assertions.  Three is a good number, because it tends to make it easier for the audience to follow and yet also allows us enough room to go into reasonable depth.  We work out the logical flow of the argument, to get the three points into order and then we add in the sub points and evidence to prove what we are saying.  We have now framed the main body of the talk and this means it is time to work on the blockbuster opening. The start of the speech has some key goals. We want everyone to stop multitasking and being distracted by their phones.  We must make them cease chit chatting with their neighbours and devote their entire attention to us.  Sounds easy.  Today though, we all seem to have the attention span of a gnat, unless we are binge watching some popular series on Netflix.  During lockdown, everyone was binge watching their hearts out, so their expectations have now reached stratospheric heights and here you are, about to present. Unfortunately, as presenters, we can't compete with these multi-million dollar, big budget extravaganza shows. We are left to our own devices to keep people away from their hand held devices.  As modern day speakers, we find ourselves marooned in this Age Of Distraction.  Therefore our opening has to be really well planned, to cut through all the mental clutter.  Whatever you say, begin with a lot of energy and volume, to scythe through the white noise bubbling away in the back of the room. You will have been introduced before your talk, but modern audiences keep chatting away without compunction, so go hard at the start. Open with a vexing question, a pithy quote, a gripping episode from the front lines or a bald faced, semi controversial statement.  These are all good attention grabbers. In Part Three, we will deal with the finer points of the delivery.  Many a great start faltered midstream and lost the attention of the audience.  People today are merciless about reaching for their phones, to disappear to a better world than sitting there listening to you drone on and on.  Find out how to avoid that disastrous fate in the next instalment.

The Cold Calling On Zoom Salesperson - Part Two   In Part One we looked at how to get a meeting when you are cold calling and cannot meet the buyer face to face.  When working the phones, cold calling salespeople have a very low conversion rate of turning dials into actual meetings.  The same barrier stays in place because we still need to use the phone to speak to the buyer, to make a virtual meeting appointment.  If we can design a good enough hook, to get the initial phone contact interested on the phone, then they will take a risk and transfer us or connect us with the buyer.  This is the hook value versus the personal risk equation in Japan.  That equation usually ensures salespeople almost never get put through to the buyer.  The person answering the phone concludes the risk/reward computation is not worth the effort.    If lightening strikes and you do manage to get the buyer name and contact details, or are transferred through to them, then what do you do?  We repeat the whole hook delivery approach directly with the buyer again.  Having successfully arranged the online meeting, we come on line and meet them for the first time.  This can be a a hostile environment.    In the meeting room we have their full and undivided attention, but online is a different matter baby.  American research shows that 88% of salespeople believed that buyers were multitasking during their sales presentation and not paying full attention.  Also 62% of buyers didn't even turn their cameras on and in fact, 82% of salespeople didn't have the guts to ask the buyers to turn on the camera.   This is our first impression opportunity with the buyer, so we want that camera on.  We should definitely ask them to come on camera.  Just say, “Thank you for joining me today, please come on camera and allow me to introduce myself”.  Being Japan, we may get a certain percentage of buyers who will push back on that and say, “I prefer the camera off”.  That is not a good sign.  We have few choices but to soldier on and do our best, but I would take that as a very negative buying signal right there.   Presuming they do cooperate and come on camera or are already on camera, what are they discovering about us?  Were we punctual, trustworthy, on time and online before they joined?  Do we look professional, dressed in our business battle gear?  Do we have the camera situated at eye height, rather than zooming up our own nose? Are we talking to the camera lens rather than looking down at their image on screen?    Are we speaking fluently with no hesitations like um and ahs, being concise and clear in our communication.  Do we sit up straight, away from the back of the chair, projecting confidence and credibility through our body language?  Do we have an additional light source in front of us, which overcomes the other lights in the room and lights our face separately, so that we appear very crisp on screen?  Have we wrestled our background into submission and eliminated anything that is a distraction or destroying our credibility, like giving the buyer a peek into a very messy room.   There are some basic rules in selling in person and online and building rapport is a good place to begin the sales process. We repeat the hook and explain why we are meeting.  We then segue into something like this, “So much has changed, so quickly and February feeling like a million years ago to me. By the way, how have you found working from home rather than the office?”.  We do this because we have been doing all the talking so far and now we want to encourage them to start talking to us.  After listening to them, we express some empathy with what has been their experience.  Now we come to a vital component of the sales call.  We seek their permission to ask questions.    In our case, we would say this, “We started the company in 1912 and have been in Japan for 57 years now and have been active across all major industries here.  We have worked with XYZ in your industry. What they really liked was the fact that we could produce increases in revenues above 20% in a three month period.  Maybe we could do the same for you?  I am not sure, but in order for me to understand if that is possible or not, would you mind if I asked a few questions?”.    Here we have started with a broad statement about who we are, why we are differentiated from our competitors and what we do for clients.  We then provide concrete evidence of where we have been successful with their competitors. We do not say we can “definitely” help them, as Americans are taught to do in sales.  We specifically say “maybe”.  We do this to sound less pushy. Also, in truth, until we ask them some questions, we actually have no idea if we can help them or not.    Finally, we seek their permission to ask a “few” questions.  This implies it won't be too many questions or take up a lot of their valuable time.  Ironically, if there is some interest there, then it could become quite a lot of questions and take quite a lot of time. When there is interest though, the buyer won't mind.  Now if we find there is not a match, we don't try and slam the square peg into the round hole.  We just politely terminate the conversation and go and find an actual buyer.   In Part Three we will continue with the next stage of the online sales cold call.

Something or someone of great importance and influence had convinced and motivated these neolithic hunter-gatherers to put their way of life on hold and come together as a group to undertake such a tremendous project as Göbekli Tepe. This is likely the first time hundreds of prehistoric peoples had formed an organized collective in order to build a religious sanctuary. The work would've taken years to accomplish and the temple would be built upon for many centuries more. The result of this work is believed to have spurred civilization as we know it today. But what beliefs or legends could have generated such a monumental task?  In Part Three of our series, we examine the hypotheses put forth in Andrew Collins' book, Göbekli Tepe, Genesis of the Gods: The Temple of the Watchers and the Discovery of Eden. With his comprehensive and detailed research, Collins goes beyond the boundaries of interpretation where Processual archaeologists would not stray. Could the memory of a global, natural catastrophe which nearly wiped out humanity be the impetus for creating a shrine to assuage the gods into sparing them more devastation? Could the builders have been directed by foreign and mysterious visitors who seemed to have knowledge of the heavens and history far beyond their own? If they did indeed fear destruction from the cosmos, then a connection from them to us could be made, because we're subject to those very same dangers.
