Felicia Oh is a legend of jiu-jitsu, the sixth woman outside of Brazil to earn a black belt -- but her origin story in the art involves the Y2K scare, the LA Marathon and Rudy Fischmann. The masters world champion and ADCC silver medalist talks to us about what training with Jean-Jacques Machado and Eddie Bravo was like, and how 10th Planet came about; about starting at 33 years old and becoming an elite grappler, competing against all-time-greats like Leticia Ribeiro, Megumi Fujii and more; nearly having to walk away from jiu-jitsu and MMA due to chronic fatigue, and how she beat the illness and came back; and way, way more. Thanks to Felicia Oh for this interview! US Grappling comes to Frederick, Maryland this weekend, June 29! Support the tournament that's by grapplers, for grapplers, and has the best competitor experience around. Remember, black belts compete for free -- and register early for the Richmond, Virginia event on Aug. 3! Tell them we sent you.

An interview with Wim Hof certified instructor, ex-marine, and ex-profession fighter and Brown Belt under Jean Jacques Machado, Joey Hauss. Wim Hof has mastered his autonomic nervous system and hormone system. Joey Travels the world teaching Wim Hof methods. Currently he lives in L.A. His path of personal development started with wrestling in college. Pushing out of his comfort zone. This allowed him to recognize the voice in his head “wanting to quit” and then pushing through it and then when the voice stops he recognized the power he has; pushing past the initial voice. There is so much more that my body is capable of, he thought. He quit his job from blockbuster and joined the marines. The marines still had the aspect of pushing himself after the initial comfort zone. After the marines he fell in love with Brazilian jiu jitsu. He met the Jesus of Brazilian Jujitsu who came and did a seminar where he talked about breathing and his yoga teacher and his cold water practices and that he did to “embrace death”. This answer resonated with Joey. Joey then learned about Wim Hof who pushed his body using science. When you start studying breath work you learn that different patterns help you feel differently. It is not a different road to the same destination. Doing breathwork releases a lot of emotion. Seen people cry, laugh, release intense anger, women have orgasms. Breathwork is such an amazing tool. Being able to open and close your valves, open and close your blood vessels. Wim Hof - 3 pillars Breathwork Mindset Cold Exposure There is really only one pillar which is Mindset and the breathwork and cold exposure are tools. If you apply this you will feel better. Wim Hof affects the sympathetic nervous system and then it also activates your parasympathetic, rest and digest. You are able to handle stress better. These microdoses of stress you induce with the breathing technique helps you handle life better. Having these morning routines helps you deal with your internal self and you are able to give everyone you meet your best self. The ice bath is the big stress. This is how you use your physiology to go into your higher state. Make the choice to go into the ice bath. So much mindset is a choice. It’s 100% choice of how we go through the day. Calm excitement Process information from a different state. Priming for the day. Waking up every morning and diving into the cold pool. Let our mind know that we are in charge. You don’t just get in the water and man up. These are the techniques that come from your higher self so you can stay completely calm while you are dealing with these external situations. Mindset are tools and techniques that you can do to have a better life. Most martial artist goes into the martial arts to learn to fight and defend yourself. How to approach the day by doing the right thing first thing in the morning Find Joey @ instagram.com/joeyhauss www.wimhofmethod.com/instructors/joseph-hauss-1 Train with Yogi Chris @ http://9thlimb.com/the-silent-flute
