CitySwift, leader in performance optimisation for the public transport sector across the globe, has announced the continuation of its partnership with National Express West Midlands (NXWM). The three year extension comes following impressive year-on-year results, including improved bus punctuality and efficiencies. Since September 2023 NXWM's use of CitySwift's advanced AI and data technology has led to a reduction of more than 20% in late running, customer wait times have been reduced, and passengers per journey have increased. This follows strong results from previous years and consequently NXWM is now rolling out CitySwift's platform across its entire fleet of over 1,400 buses. As a leader in the largest UK urban bus market outside of London, NXWM provides on average 210 million bus passenger journeys per year across the West Midlands and has worked collaboratively with CitySwift to develop best-in-class transport solutions that analyse passenger and service data, drive optimum performance, and delivers a much more efficient use of resources. Speaking on today's announcement, Alan Farrelly, CCO and Co-founder of CitySwift said: "National Express West Midlands has been core to CitySwift's product development since 2019, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership for a further three years. This next phase will enable National Express West Midlands to further strengthen their commitment to enhancing the public transport network and improving the passenger experience through our technology." The latest innovative CitySwift solution is Spotlight, a globally leading intelligent recommendation engine for bus network enhancements that is integral to building smart cities and regions of the future. NXWM is the first UK transport operator to adopt Spotlight, with the West Midlands being the first region in the world to benefit, resulting in faster, more customer-centric choices that balance resources, passengers, cities, and operators. Ed Rickard, Network Director at National Express, commented: "Our collaboration with CitySwift to deliver Spotlight for the benefit of bus users across the West Midlands, and in major cities across the UK, is a groundbreaking achievement for the National Express West Midlands and CitySwift teams. We are delighted to continue working in partnership with CitySwift over the coming years and proudly leading the charge in the UK when it comes to the use of AI-powered data and insights that are key to an efficient, cost-effective delivery of bus service performance for customers across our network." Designed for schedulers; Spotlight improves scheduler decision-making by providing AI-powered insights into performance and resource considerations such as timeliness, cost, and vehicle numbers. It scans the entire network, delivering service optimisation options, and efficiency improvements. Andy Foster, Director of Bus Planning at National Express, added: "We are excited to be extending CitySwift's AI performance optimisation capabilities across our bus network in the West Midlands. Traffic conditions on our region's roads have worsened and can negatively impact the reliability of our services. However, using CitySwift's AI analytics and optimisation tools our skilled schedulers and network planners have been able to respond effectively, maximising our productivity and efficiency while also reducing late running for customers that rely on our bus services." Founded in 2016 by Brian O'Rourke and Alan Farrelly, CitySwift's performance optimisation platform gives operators and transport authorities insights, recommendations, and predictions, supporting them in the delivery of efficient, reliable and in-demand services. CitySwift empowers public transport operators and authorities to achieve unparalleled efficiency by leveraging advanced analytics, simulations, and optimisations. With its easy-to-use industry-leading technology, CitySwift envisions a future where public transport is the travel mode of choice ...

We'll also discuss the rules changes suggested by California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster, particularly with the definition of a “downed opponent” as well as the 12-to-6 elbow rule. Industrial control and operational technology systems face the same forces as IT applications and are rapidly being integrated into comprehensive edge infrastructure. This episode of Utilizing Edge brings Andy Foster of IOTech to discuss standardization of industrial IoT with Allyson Klein and Stephen Foskett. There are many more similarities between industrial control systems and information technology systems than many people realize. Both are impacted by standards in commodity hardware, networking and communications protocols, and cloud integration. Boxing is a sport of contradictions. Known as the “sweet science” because of the technical skills its fighters need to succeed, it is also incredibly brutal. Boxing has provided a creative outlet and a path out of poverty for generations of California strivers, forging cultural and individual identity, promoting dignity, pride, and agency, and delivering million-dollar paydays for some. But the sport has also destroyed some of its most talented practitioners, seemingly abandoning them to post-career bankruptcies and grievous injury. What accounts for boxing's disconnects? Boxers themselves, who take epic risks with few safety nets? Promoters, agents, and managers who forget clients once they're past their prime? The industry's structure and sanctioning bodies, that allow abuse and neglect? California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster, former middleweight champ Sergio “the Latin Snake” Mora, and Kali “KO” Mequinonoag Reis, professional boxer and actress, visit Zócalo for a panel discussion, moderated by sport and ethnic studies scholar Rudy Mondragón, to reflect on boxing's future—as an athletic endeavor, as a business, and as a cultural force—in California and beyond.

Wellington's mayoral candidates are considering ways to reshape the city centre, with fewer cars, congestion charging, and fewer on-street parks. Tory Whanau, Paul Eagle and Andy Foster expressed support for the measures during a mayoral debate yesterday on Morning Report, while being conscious of wanting to bring businesses back to empty stores and offices. Retail New Zealand's Greg Harford says businesses will be concerned with the plan, when public transport isn't up to it and won't reliably bring people into the city. He spoke to Susie Ferguson.

Wellington's mayor Andy Foster is throwing his hat in the ring again for the city council's top spot - but he won't confirm if Sir Peter Jackson will back him again.
It's been revealed this morning that incumbent Wellington Mayor Andy Foster will stand again for the job at the upcoming local body elections. To discuss this move and his chances of netting a second term, Jesse speaks to NZ Herald Wellington senior journalist Georgina Campbell.
Wellington residents have had their say in an annual survey to gauge the performance of the city's council - and not all of it is flattering. The council-run survey - taken in February, during the precarious weeks of the Parliamentary Grounds occupation - found residents thought the capital city is less "lively and attractive" than a year ago, and is more difficult to get around. Mayor Andy Foster also acknowledged the score on council governance was "terrible". It's something he said could be justified early in his term but it did not take into account the recent strides made. Andy Foster spoke to Morning Report.

Wellington's mayor is defending his move to put the brakes on a Palestinian commemoration event. The Michael Fowler Centre was set to be lit up in the colours of the Palestinian flag tonight to mark Nakba Day ... which recognises the impact of a 1948 war with Israel. However, the capital's mayor vetoed it after MFAT expressed concerns about Israeli sensitivities. Andy Foster told Heather Du-Plessis Allan he was advised the event may offend people. “I thought ‘mmm this has got the potential to be controversial' so I sought the advice from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and they said ‘yeah, your call but please, please, please don't do it'.” LISTEN ABOVE
Was Wellington mayor Andy Foster right to pull the pin on plans to light up a Wellington landmark in Palestinian colours, after a warning he might upset Israel? The big Emissions Reduction Plan – not many specifics, a lot more consultation – has the plan fallen flat? A report into High Performance Sport has recommended the approach needs to be changed to people first – not medals first – after the suspected suicide of Olivia Podmore. But aren't medals what we want our athletes to win? Ramraiders have stepped it up a notch and stolen a digger to burst into a BP. This is getting ridiculous, isn't it? How do we stop it?
