The city of North Adams, MA is a great locale these days if your passion is transforming downtowns.  The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is slated to fund a complete reversal of urban renewal's worst mid-century mistakes by eliminating the Route 2 overpass.  There are myriad other improvements in the works, too.  That's why the folks who care the most about their city reinvigorated the North Adams Partnership, who is brushing off the dust on an otherwise vibrant long-term plan for the city's next chapter and hired Jenny Wright to lead the effort.   If you are a developer, small scale ‘houser' or if you're sitting in your kitchen, right now, in North Adams pull up a chair and listen in to why you need to consider North Adams, in no small part to Jenny and her team.

Shat the Movies: 80's & 90's Best Film Review

Of all the '80s movies that needed a sequel, "Young Guns" wasn't one of them. But when you quadruple the budget, beef up the cast and toss in Christian Slater, the Shat Crew (and commissioner Kelly B.) certainly will saddle up. This 1990 Western is more "The Ballad of Brushy Bill Roberts" than an accurate retelling of the events following the Lincoln County War—with questionable wound care, incredible distances traveled, oddly accurate "wanted" posters, terrible Old Face and the notion that anyone would want to boink William Petersen. In this episode, hear about Big D's powwow adventure, play "Navajo or Shakespeare," learn how a Jenny Wright nude scene could possibly be a bad thing and decide whether Aragorn really needed to be in "Young Guns II." Thirty-five years ago, we saw the release of a vampire thriller from a hot new director which truly connected with audiences and is beloved to this day – that film was The Lost Boys and it remains pretty beloved to this day.  This was the OTHER vampire thriller released that same year – it was the second film to be directed by future Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow and it stars Adrian Pasdar as Caleb, a young man living in Oklahoma who meets a mysterious young woman (Jenny Wright) one night.  The two lovebirds connect and then he meets the rest of the family….or so he thinks.  Because this woman doesn't below to a family, she belongs to a gang of vampires lead by Lance Henrickson and they're travelling around the country with one main purpose: to feed on others.  And as a result, Caleb has to decide whether he wants to join them….or to be fed upon.  This cult classic also stars Jeanette Goldstein, Tim Thomerson, and the late, great Bill Paxton.Host: Geoff GershonEditors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

As she prepared to direct her first solo feature, future Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow wanted to film a Western movie but she found it difficult to secure financing and a studio to back up her vision. So alongside co-writer Eric Red, who also penned the horror film “The Hitcher,” Bigelow shifted gears to combine her idea for a modern Western with the vampire genre that had become increasingly popular in recent years, especially after the success of “Fright Night” as well as another film called “The Lost Boys” that was set for release that same year. Bigelow didn't want to make the same kind of movie as traditional vampire stories steeped in gothic or even romantic themes. Instead, her interpretation was much darker and grimier than most vampire stories — in fact she never even uses the word vampire in her film. Set against the dusty backdrop of the southwest, a young cowboy named Caleb falls for a beautiful girl named Mae but he soon discovers that one kiss from her comes along with a deadly invitation to join her family…In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to black out the car windows and crank up the Tangerine Dream as we discuss the 1987 classic “Near Dark”…

Meet Jenny Wright:  Jenny Wright (she/her) left her hard-won Vice President title and toxic work environment in corporate America behind, pivoting back into philanthropy and international development without any regrets. She has relied on her project management, research and communications roots to dedicate over a decade of her career to consult for non-profits and international organizations worldwide. When not running her own consulting firm (Nomad Consulting), Jenny has managed 5 research projects for the United Nations in 3 countries, and has been published by the International Organization for Migration as well as in the International Studies Journal. Having globetrotted around half the world (and living in her 9th country), Jenny is used to thinking on her feet, eating questionable food and living out of a suitcase. Directing her knack for writing to social media, she gained over 40K LinkedIn followers in a year and is in the process of launching her own blog (A Migrant's Guide) to share hers and other migrants' experiences of moving and living abroad. Feeding her insatiable appetite for new challenges, she's also flipped 3 "fixer uppers" since 2018 – the first of which was featured on HGTV – and is working on her 4th.  In her own words, Her almost endless amounts of energy comes from a strict diet of 2/3 caffeine and ⅓ sugar with a pinch of ADHD. She's currently based in Tunisia with her two dogs, and a clowder of street kittens that came with the place. What I love about Jenny is that she is doing, actually doing what so many of us have on our bucket list. Traveling the world, doing deeply meaningful work with and for people who really need the support and having the kinds of adventures that most of us only dream about. Jenny is living proof that we can create the life we want NOW, not 10 years from now, not when we retire, but right now. Welcome Mutant Goons to our first week of Thanksgorging here on Slashers Podcast! This week Doug and Ade dive into Kathryn Bigelow's debut film Near Dark (1987). This film stars the amazing Bill Paxton, Lance Henrikson, and Jenette Goldstein, whom you may remember starred together in a little James Cameron film, Aliens. Cameron suggested that Bigelow throw in his actors for good measure, and boom, we have a vampire horror western which Doug finds reminiscent of Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects. The film also stars 80s favorite, Jenny Wright as Mae, the seductive vampiress, and Jason Patric's little brother Joshua John Miller as Homer. You may know Miller from his horror comedy The Final Girls, as he is now all grown up and no longer a creepy little vamp. Find out why we feel this film is unfairly compared with The Lost Boys, that, while totally butt-fucking awesome, is a completely different film both atmospherically and tonally. In addition, we discuss which vampires we'd like to be if they were real: Twilight vamps, Underworld vamps, Fright Night Vamps, From Dusk Till Dawn Vamps, Interview with the Vampire vamps, the list is endless! If you could be immortal, which would you choose? Give us a shout and let us know why on any of our platforms. We hope you enjoy this month, our theme is basically choosing horror that showcase nasty eats--and what better way to kick it off than with one of the most badass vampire Westerns ever? According to recommendations by the World Health Organisation, babies should receive their first gulp of breast milk within the first of being born. But what happens when the mother cannot produce milk or if the baby comes prematurely before the mom's milk has fully developed? What happens when the baby is allergic to formula? Perhaps the next best thing to consider, is a human milk bank.On today's edition of #TheSitDownParenting, we are joined by the CEO of Milk Matters (a non-profit human milk bank), Jenny Wright to understand how the process of milk donating works in South Africa. BiographyJenny Wright joined Milk Matters in 2005 in order to assist with running Milk Matters, a small but growing and developing non-profit human milk bank. Jenny's desire to get involved in breastfeeding support was sparked by seeing far too many distressed mothers giving up breastfeeding because of a lack of adequate support and information. Working in the field of milk banking provides the unique opportunity to contribute towards as many babies as possible having access to breastmilk, ideally from their own mother or, if that is not possible, from a breastmilk bank.
