In this podcast, Bryan Orr interviews Jesse Stewart from NAVAC about A2L refrigerants and compatible tools and safety procedures. They discuss how NAVAC has a full line of A2L-compatible tools for evacuation and recovery, including the new NR7 and upgraded models of the NRDDF and NRDD. Jesse explains key features that make tools A2L compatible, like DC motors, sparkless designs, insulated electrical terminations, soft power switches, and fans. He notes that NAVAC has been designing tools this way in preparation for wider A2L adoption. The conversation covers some evolving questions around A2L systems, like requirements for strike plates to protect line sets and whether existing line sets can still be used. They agree that ongoing questions need to be directed to organizations like ASHRAE to get definitive guidance. Overall, Jesse emphasizes that best practices are now required, not just recommended, when working with A2Ls. He details several examples, like nitrogen purging while brazing, the "10-foot rule" for checking potential ignition sources, and proper confined space protocols. Topics covered: NAVAC's line of A2L-compatible tools Key safety features for A2L tools Evolving regulations and best practices around A2L systems Using nitrogen while brazing The "10 foot rule" before A2L installations Working in confined spaces with A2Ls Adapting outdated practices to meet new safety needs   Explore NAVAC's A2L-compatible tools at https://navacglobal.com/a2l-compatible-tools/ or general products at https://navacglobal.com/. Jesse Stewart is the Founder of AM300 Solutions. He is a writer, best-selling author, speaker, consultant, and former U.S. Army Ranger. He retired at the rank of Major following multiple combat tours spanning every calendar year from 2003-2010.You can only earn hard fought wisdom through experience. Jesse discussed his family history of military experience going all the way back to the French and Indian War. He followed in his grandfather's and his father's footsteps enrolling in the Army after high school, and his father stayed enlisted long enough to give him his first solute and pin his Ranger tab on his uniform.Jesse was drawn to service but remembers the day that solidified his path to the Rangers. After having long at the top of the World Trade Center on September 10, 2001 with his aunt and uncle, he watched the towers fall the following day from the weight room at college and took the event as a direct attack on his family. He became an Army Ranger and spent almost 8 years deployed on and off fighting for the United States of America. After reaching the rank of Major and sustaining multiple injuries on the battlefield, Jesse was medically retired, in 2012, at the age of 31 and left “medically disabled.”Jesse's experience after leaving the military brought more clarity to his life and purpose. After battling depression and alcoholism, Jesse went through a transformation, similar to that of a Phoenix burning down to the ashes before being reborn.Jesse founded AM300 solutions to train athletes with the Hard Fought Wisdom he acquired on the battlefield. One of the aspects of the program he is most proud of is the Warrior Athlete Program, where the athletes he works with visit with Veterans to help bring purpose to their lives. He now works extensively with the US Olympic Ski and Snowboard team, helping train their minds for the uncertainty of competition. As a consultant, many Olympic athletes are reaching peek performance and anticipating success in the coming games.Jesse is a best-selling author, consultant, keynote speaker (check out his TED talk) and all around leader. For more: http://everybreathcountspodcast.com/https://everybreathcountspodcast.com/?p=27Website: AM 300 SolutionsBuy the book – Un-Winnable WarsThe Phoenix Project (Coming 2021)US Ski and Snowboard OlympicTeamLucas Fosterhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/am300phoenix/https://www.instagram.com/am300phoenix/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyAKKZTcgYV3HwSdZB0xC6g?view_as=subscriberhttps://twitter.com/am300phoenix

Episode #32 - Silent Communication: Interspecies Music with Kimber Sider

This show is about interspecies communication in the context of musical performance. According to today’s guest, Kimber Sider, horses are a sort of barometer for musical connection, since music is not just about sound but is a conduit to a silent embodied layer of meaning that is the basis for empathetic communication, affective connection, and emotional resonance. When Kimber Sider rode her horse Katrina across Canada, from Nova Scotia to British Columbia, on her own, she had a lot of time to pick up on the subtle bodily communication happening between her and her horse in the various landscapes, rural cultures, and navigational SNAFUs that her extremely brave endeavor endangered. Check out the documentary Chasing Canada that she made about her ride. Now doing research at the University of Guelph, Kimber has set up the most extraordinary sort of ‘laboratory’: she invites improvising musicians to jam with her horses! Check out improvisers David Lee, Dong-Won Kim, and Jesse Stewart. We did the interview over Skype in the very final days of 2015 when I was hiding away in the woods for the holidays, so the internet was cutting in and out. This meant that some of Kimber’s words were glitchy and hard to understand. I decided to just over-dub the distorted words with my own voice: the result is thus a technological/sonic reflection of the collaborative nature of intellectual exchange, and the influence a producer can exert over the presentation of another’s speech! This episode originally aired on Tuesday, January 5th, at 5pm on CFRU 93.3FM. Sound It Out is hosted by Rachel Elliott who is a PhD candidate in Philosophy at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. Sound It Out is produced in conjunction with the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation. The show explores whether and how improvised music can serve as a basis for discursive inclusivity, the creation of new forms of shared meaning, and more democratic means of connecting with each other. Sound It Out airs on Guelph’s campus and community radio station, CFRU 93.3FM, on alternating Tuesdays at 5pm.
