For doing just that, one mother received the label of "world's worst mum," and another was reported to social services! In today's risk-averse society, our children lack adventure. Today's guest is Kim Patton. She is the author of Nothing Wasted: Struggling Well Through Difficult Seasons and the host of the Book Therapy podcast. Kim and Kevin have been married for fourteen years and have two beautiful daughters. Kim adopted a mindset to trust and have faith in God as her guide through life. She admits from the start of our interview that God is not very forthcoming about His leading and guiding. Kim gives numerous examples of how she's experienced God's leading. Her examples will help those who think they haven't experienced God's leading. One of the best insights Kim shares is “I've been thinking of it [the Christian life] as an adventurous life.” Adventurous because we give up our control of knowing all the details and let God handle the details. If we took on the mindset of our Christian life as an adventure, imagine how different our lives and our impact on others would be! Notable quotes from this episode with Kim Patton: · “If my own understanding is not working, I must bend to the will of the Lord.”· “God slowly leading and slowly guiding. It is often through the people that I trust.”· “There's an adventure to be had when you follow the Lord because you never know what's going to happen.”· “He's the one who's going to meet that need for another person, and He's going to use you to do it. And that is the greatest adventure.”Bible verses: · 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort which we ourselves are comforted by God.”· Psalm 56:8 “You number and record my wanderings; put my tears into Your bottle-are they not in Your book?”· Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.”· John 6:68 “Simon Peter answered, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.'”· Galatians 1:10 “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”Connect with Kim Patton:Her website: https://www.kimpatton.com On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kimberly.patton.39On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kimpatton730Send me a COMMENT or QUESTION!

Have you ever wondered what would happen if James Bond had to visit a real doctor? In this podcast episode, Prof. Jonathan Sackier, a surgeon with a penchant for dry martini humour, and Dr. Nigel Guest, a family practitioner who can pull out a quip with the same panache as 007 whipping out his PPK , dive headfirst into the health consequences of James Bond's high-octane lifestyle. They don't just scratch the surface; they explore the nitty-gritty details of how Bond's smoking, drinking, and penchant for getting into physical altercations would wreak havoc on his body. What happens when you mix martinis, shaken or stirred (after all, “who gives a damn?”), with a barrage of bullets and high-speed chases? Prof. Sackier and Dr. Guest paint a vivid picture of the interconnectedness of symptoms in medicine, using a hilariously over-the-top case study to show how seemingly disparate symptoms can point to a single underlying condition. “I've been expecting you, Mr Bond”. Picture this: Bond walks into Dr.No-it-all's office with a limp, a cough, a black, not gold finger, a limp appendage and no thunderball, as well as a mysterious rash. By the end of the consultation, it's clear that Bond's lifestyle isn't just dangerous; it's a medical nightmare waiting to happen. The Docs makes you wonder how Bond manages to get out of bed in the morning, let alone get into it for some fun and games or to save the world.Ever thought about the real-life consequences of being an international man of mystery? The Docs humorously deconstruct Bond's unrealistic portrayal in media, emphasising the serious health issues he would likely face. They don't hold back, discussing everything from erectile dysfunction to kidney failure and even hearing impairment. I said HEARING IMPAIRMENT. Imagine Bond trying to seduce a femme fatale while dealing with the side effects of chronic alcohol abuse—it's not a pretty picture! The conversation is peppered with jokes and light-hearted jabs, making it clear that while Bond might be invincible on screen, in real life, he'd be more likely to become a spectre.Want Moore? Prof. Sackier and Dr. Guest navigate the fine line between humour and medical accuracy. By the end of the episode, you'll have a newfound appreciation for the resilience of fictional characters and a better understanding of the real-life consequences of living like Bond. So, next time you watch a Bond film, remember: real life is not a 007 film. Take care of yourself because while diamonds are forever, none of us gets to decide to Die Another Day.—--DISCLAIMER: The views and opinions expressed on Join the Docs are those of Dr. Nigel Guest, Jonathan Sackier and other people on our show. A Note from James: AJ Jacobs, who has an upcoming book, "The Year of Living Constitutionally", he's a fascinating writer. He basically, instead of just doing research on a topic "Oh, I'm going to do research on the Constitution, I'm going to do research on living healthy, I'm going to do research on the Bible," instead of just researching something and writing a book, which I consider to be boring, he has a completely different way of exploring a topic, and it turns out,and not by accident, it turns out that this is the formula for writing a bestselling, millions-of-copies kind of book. And it's an interesting way to live life. And what I mean is, A. J. really lives what he's writing about. So when he wrote his, one of his early books, The Year of Living Biblically, he lived for a year, literally word by word, as the Bible would suggest he lives. For instance, I'll let A. J. describes and we talk about it in this episode, but in "The Year of Living Constitutionally", which is about to come out he lives the life of someone.Around 1790, living the constitution word for word applying to be a pirate with the Congress. Something which was an article, one of the constitution, if you didn't happen to know. And meanwhile, other books he's had are like, "My Life is An Experiment", where everything was an experiment. For instance, he outsourced arguments with his wife to an outsourcing agency in India. So this turns out to be not only a fascinating way to live a very curious and adventurous life. But again, as I said earlier, it turns out to be a great formula for writing a bestselling book, the kind of formula AI can't really compete with I will add. First, I want to hear about AJ's method, the AJ method of living a life of experience and using that to create stories, adventures, and of course, bestselling books. And he's a very funny guy, so how he incorporates Humor into that. And then next week, we're going to do a whole episode, fascinating episode, the year of living constitutionally, because there's so many issues about the constitution.I didn't know about it. And so many, so much information about the constitution. I didn't even know about it. I used to think I've read it, but it turns out I hadn't. So first off though, the AJ method on writing his own unique brand style of bestseller and living a life of adventure.Episode Description:In this episode of the James Altucher Show, James engages in a fascinating conversation with AJ Jacobs, an esteemed author known for his unique approach to writing and life. Jacobs discusses his upcoming book 'The Puzzler', delves into his method of immersing himself in his subjects, and shares insights from the Year of Living Constitutionally. Jacobs, known for his adventurous lifestyle and humor, describes past projects including outsourcing arguments with his wife to India and living according to the Bible. In this episode of the Traveling Therapist podcast, Kym interviews Arilda Surridge, a licensed marriage and family therapist who has merged her passion for travel with her profession. Arilda started her journey in community mental health, transitioning to private practice in 2016. The pivotal moment came during the pandemic when she decided to diversify her work, leading to the introduction of couples retreats, mainly in Mexico. These retreats were inspired by her clients' suggestions and have since become a key component of her practice. Arilda also traveled to Spain with her children for eight weeks, continuing to see clients online and immersing her kids in the local culture and language. Recently, she has expanded her offerings to include therapist destination retreats, with upcoming events planned in Panama and Mexico. The logistics of traveling with children are a significant part of Arilda's story. She discusses the balance of work and family time during retreats, ensuring her children are engaged and cared for while she conducts workshops. Arilda's husband, also a therapist, often co-facilitates these retreats, contributing to their success. She emphasizes the importance of family-friendly resorts with kids' clubs and nanny services to facilitate her work. Arilda's approach to travel and work is not just about income but also about enriching experiences for her family, networking, and cultural exploration. Key Points: Daycare: sharing how to manage kids while on retreat or traveling with them when you still need to work. Family Integration: Balancing professional retreats with family life, including traveling with her children and ensuring their engagement and learning. Expanding Offerings: Therapist destination retreats, adding a new dimension to her travel-focused professional life. About Arilda Surridge: Arilda is a LMFT. She specialize in working with Trauma and Couples. She found a way to combine her love of travel with the love for the work she does. Aside from seeing clients while she's abroad, she also organize and facilitate destination couples retreats and therapist destination retreats. This is possible to do even with young children. Arilda travel with her family EVERYWHERE. She's happy to share tips from her many work travels with her young children. Jeremy Newman is an educator, business owner, pilot, endurance athlete, and adventurer. He grew up in North Dakota, traveled the world, and found his way to Kansas. Growing up in a foster home, Jeremy learned how to make deep connections in a loving yet ever-changing family. This episode was really important to me because I believe that most of our social confidence starts in our family. When we're young, we get to see how our parents treat each other, we learn how to make friends with siblings, and we interact with all different types of personalities at family events. Being a part of the foster system could be a setback for some, but it made Jeremy more attuned to the importance of connection. In this episode you can expect to hear about: Jeremy's adoption storyhow he decided to move across the worldwhat inspired him to become a teacherhow to create adventure in your own backyardwhy language limits our worldone way to become more confident in classand what I think the podcast adventure has been like so far. Family is a gift. I'm grateful that Jeremy shared his story and I hope it inspired you to reflect on your's. Ahava is an adventurer, evangelist, author and ambassador for Christ. Along with her husband Tom Fischer, the pastor of Cardboard Box Church, she ministers the gospel on the streets. Originally from Singapore, Ahava first moved to Los Angeles, where she produced award-winning documentaries in the extreme sports arena. While being career driven, a hunger for God marked her life as well. Though she was born into a Muslim family, she explored various religions including the New Age, yet none of these paths yielded satisfaction. It took a series of events to embark upon the truth. And it was only after a tumultuous episode that she finally came to the Lord Jesus. It was then that her life would take an about turn. Soon after her salvation, she gave up her life in LA and would unexpectedly be led into full-time ministry. Today, Ahava Sarah and her husband Tom move in signs and wonders whilst sharing the gospel across the world. She also produces inspirational Kingdom media including the Modern Day Mystics documentaries that feature the life of Christian mystics, of the past and present. A life of complete surrender and bold abandonment to the Lord Jesus is the inspiration for this series. I started following Lindsay Shepard's journey when I saw on social media that she had built her own bike frame and was planning to race on it. To my surprise the first race she signed up for was my East Texas Showdown! Right after that, she turned her van North East and did the Gravel Doom race, in Arkansas. When she finished that race, she wasn't done. She turned her bike around to ride the course in reverse. Thus becoming the first person to complete the DOOM Yo-Yo! For style points, she did it on a SS bike, that she built!! Great music playlists, curated with a specific purpose in mind, can help you get to know yourself better. You can use music consciously and powerfully for healing, resurrecting dreams, awakening confidence and accessing your creative core. Transcript / Show Notes:I'm Kimberly Cain. Welcome to the Naked Vibes Show. In this episode, I'll discuss the value of music playlists for self-discovery and living a more adventurous life - getting back to your core Self. If you're new to the show, you'll find it's a blend of music and personal development because I love both and I know we all learn better when we're able to relax our minds and have some fun in the mix. Some episodes of the show contain provocative conversations with musicians for stimulating your core creativity and inspiring you into greater levels of energy, conscious productivity and joy. And other episodes are what I call Tune Your Vibes, where I deliver some ideas and inspiration, and often some fun exercises to help you shift gears when you're stuck, to enlarge your world by helping you see from more angles than you might have otherwise considered, and to help you recognize how amazing you are - to see how much the addition of your particular energy at work in the world matters in the grand scheme of things. And there's always music involved. This is one of those episodes. This show is sponsored by RockItU & Rhythmic Movement Meditations. I wish I could play all of those for you…but, copyright issues. So, I have to stick to playing my own music and the music of those I know who have given me permission. But, I have other ways of getting those lists to you, so you can access them on your own. When I was a rock 'n roll DJ, I loved it, but I was constrained by corporate playlists. Now, I can mix up whatever I want to fit the mood I'm in or create the one I want to be in. Stick around and I'll tell you how you can access some very cool, curated playlists later in the show. 3:30 - Music is the most mysterious, amazing, rapid form of healing. It has these energetic properties that are so powerful and unique and it touches us in places and ways where nothing else can. It travels across great distances and through time and gives us complete connection to one another, to the natural world and to the Divine. I love hearing stories about the way it transforms people. As I mentioned in Episode 29, I'll be getting back to bringing you conversations with musicians to take you deeper into their creative processes and inspire you to dive into your own, so you can continue to get to know yourself better and better. Making yourself your own best friend has immeasurable benefits. I've always enjoyed personal growth and have delved into a lot of methods of self-discovery.
