HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersToday we're going to do something a little bit different. Instead of just talking normally about an album, as people normally do, HEAVY reviewed the upcoming release from Buckcherry - Roar Like Thunder - and went through it with vocalist Josh Todd song by song and he let us know if we were on the right track before giving us a bit more of a detailed version of what the song is about. We started with the review intro. "I've long been a fan of Buckcherry and their music. It has always held an infectious air of defiance and a rebellious swagger that has defied much of the music that has punctuated the last 25 years, with the band making an immediate statement with the classic song Lit Up from their self-titled 1999 debut album. They have always been a band that skirts in the shadowy side of the rock realm, defying trends and expectations while still managing to have somewhat of a crossover appeal that evades many others. After losing track of the band for a few years, I caught up again with Buckcherry for their sensational Fuck EP in 2014 and have kept up with every release since. The band seemed to find a fresh air of rock-drenched goodness on their 2021 release Hellbound, which they carried through to Volume 10 two years later. So it is with a great deal of excitement I sit to listen to their upcoming album, Roar Like Thunder, which is scheduled for release on June 13th.""That's great. Love it," Todd smiled. "Yeah, we're very excited. You know, we've already dropped three songs off the record, Roar Like Thunder, the title track, Come On and Set It Free, and everybody's loving it. It's a great record, you know, and it rocks from beginning to end. We're really excited for it to hit the streets."The full interview features a track-by-track analysis of Roar Like Thunder, where Josh highlighted themes of focus and ambition in the title track and expressed enthusiasm for the positive reception of three already released songs. He shared insights into the songwriting process, mentioning the evolution of tracks like Talking Bout Sex, inspired by Cardi B and George Michael, and Blackout, which reflects his personal struggles with alcohol. The conversation also covered the blues influences in songs like I Go Boom, which explores sociopathic themes, and the motivational nature of Set It Free. Other tracks discussed included Hello Goodbye, which contemplates bittersweet relationships, and Machine Gun, showcasing the band's storytelling ability. The dialogue concluded with praise for Let It Burn, seen as a powerful finale, reinforcing Buckcherry's strong presence in rock music.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

The Salton Sea review

Val Kilmer was one of the most eclectic and enthralling actors of his generation and one of the movies that heavily showcased this is this week's movie, “The Salton Sea.” Kilmer showed he could be wacky, like in “Top Secret!” and “Real Genius” or deadly serious like in “Spartan” and “The Doors.” In “The Salton Sea” he sort of combines those two and it makes for an entertaining and captivating performance. If you want a movie that leads you down one path, en route to setting an expectation, just to subvert it, and does it multiple times, “The Salton Sea” just might be for you. Kilmer plays Danny Parker, a trumpet player, who has a faithful marriage to a beautiful wife until that all comes to an end. Afterwards, his life becomes a drug-filled downward spiral as he joins the perpetual night party of the tweaker to cope, or is that why he's really doing it? We don't know. He's also a confidential informant for a couple of L.A. detectives who want him to set up a maniacally, murderous drug dealer named Pooh Bear. This is a drug dealer known for killing people suddenly just because he doesn't like the tone of their voice. Also, Danny is told that he's been marked for death for something he didn't do, so things went from beautiful and romantic to pitiful and manic really quick. Is Danny Parker for real, or is he someone else? Will he survive the vortex of violence he finds himself in? Is it worth finding out in this lesser known Val Kilmer movie? Check out my spoiler-free review on this episode to find out! “The Salton Sea” also stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Adam Goldberg, Luiz Guzman, Doug Hutchison, Anthony LaPaglia, Glenn Plummer, Peter Sarsgaard, Deborah Kara Unger, Chandra West, BD Wong, R. Lee Ermey, Shalom Harlow, Sherry Knight, Meat Loaf, Azura Skye, Josh Todd and Danny Trejo.     Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

Petar and Brandon discuss the “Cat Bath Water” merchandise release by Belushi Speed Ball, MTV Unplugged streaming now on Paramount+ and us remembering those episodes in real time, Buckcherry's Josh Todd believing in rock n roll, and some Hatebreed drama surrounded the exit of Chris Beattie. Creed is planning a 2024 tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their album Human Clay. Over 30 artists have been announced for the 2024 Monsters of Rock Cruise. Mark Tornillo talks about how he ended up singing for Iron Maiden at a club show four decades ago. A documentary about late Snot singer Lynn Strait is in the works. Judas Priest will officially replace Ozzy Osbourne at the Power Trip Festival. Buckcherry's Josh Todd says rock is no longer dangerous. Richie Faulkner reveals the best piece of advice he ever got from Rob Halford. Eddie Van Halen nearly had a cameo in the third Bill & Ted movie. Jeff Young blasts Dave Mustaine for comments about ex-Megadeth members never "amounting to anything." Mick Mars doesn't want to talk to his Mötley Crüe bandmates ever again. Friend of the show and singer for Dawn of the Rising Ray Coon has a new gig with Angel Black. Josh Todd is the latest guest on Talkin' Rock, as Buckcherry is playing Uncle Sam Jam on July 7th. Before they do, they be at Rock City Music Company the day before doing a special meet and greet with fans. All the details are here.  Just like so many rockers, Josh is sober. Unlike so many rockers, he sobered up before his career took off. He told me about living "really fast" early in his life. There was a couple things that pointed him towards a clean life. When asked if he credits his career with his sobriety, he responded "Absolutely...number one on my list. Without that I've got nothing." He told me about the latest album, Vol 10. He talked about doing "guerilla writing sessions". As far as the writing process he said "We just do whatever's best for the song, ya know." referring to writing with the group and producer Marty Fredrickson. Josh talked about a few certain songs, and some dark places he was at while writing these songs. Why did they cover Bryan Adams' "Summer of 69"? He answers that question too. One song he said was there "Hysteria" from Def Leppard. He brought up perfect albums, so I asked him to name some of his favorites.  He also talked about racing go-carts, playing tennis, and the live version of "Crazy Bitch" they do, which is pretty cool.  Enjoy! -Meltdown- https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/ https://rockcitymusicco.com/

In Field tips for Taxidermy prep with Josh Todd   Show Notes: Josh Todd owns McDowell Mountain Taxidermy, a small custom shop in North Scottsdale. Taxidermy is Josh's hobby and passion and he's selective about what he takes in and works on. He also does a ton of refurb work cleaning up and bringing an animal back to life. Here, Josh and I get into in-field care to help your taxidermist give you the best possible product. There's a lot you can do in the field and the moment you get something down, the clock starts ticking. Hunters often have that mentality when it comes to meat, but the same applies when you want to come back with a proper mount or something life-size. In warm weather, fur can start slipping pretty quickly, so the sooner you get the animal cold, the better.    Josh talks about customizations and mannequins available and why having enough cape and shoulder is important. He also gives us a solid play-by-play from getting a bull down in an elk hunt to taking it to the taxidermist. Even though you're racing the clock, don't forget to take those hard-earned pictures – you'll have time for those. Josh walks through all the right cuts and includes a ton of great details. When you're packing up, never use trash bags or plastic bags and go with something breathable made for game hunting. And don't forget to keep everything on ice.   One of the biggest issues I have is how to keep a larger animal with a big rack cool enough until it makes it to the taxidermist. Josh shares some tips on how you can get creative and do things right to get the best end result. We talked about his preferred methods for European mounts and whitening techniques and processes. Josh and I wrap up by talking about velvet antlers and how to handle them. Try your best not to touch the antlers because they're super delicate by the tips. Velvet is developing organic tissue and it's important to get it cold as fast as possible. What's Inside: What to do in the field to preserve your kills the right way. A play-by-play of what to do from getting a bull down to taking it to the taxidermy. How to keep things cool when you have a larger animal/big rack. What to do with velvet antlers.   Mentioned in this episode Phoenix Shooting Bags save 20% with code johnstallone Howl for Wildlife: https://www.howlforwildlife.org/ GoHunt: https://www.gohunt.com/   Short Description: Josh Todd owns McDowell Mountain Taxidermy, a small custom shop in North Scottsdale.
