This week on CounterSpin: Dropped by her law firm after being exposed as an advisor on the post-2020 election call where Donald Trump told Georgia officials to “find” him some votes, Cleta Mitchell has leaned in on the brand of “election integrity.” Platformed on right-wing talk radio, she's now saying that Democrats are “literally getting people to lie” to exploit laws that allow overseas citizens to vote, so she's bringing lawsuits. Does she have evidence? No. Is evidence the point? Also no. We speak this week with media law attorney and reporter Shawn Musgrave, who serves as counsel to the Intercept, about how Trump's “Big Lie” attorneys are not so much returning to the field, but actually never left. In 2018, elite media had apparently moved beyond the kneejerk reportorial pairing of documentation of voter suppression with hypothetical claims of voter fraud. But they were still doing faux-naive reporting of those fraud claims as something other than themselves a deliberate suppression campaign. Then, the shiny object was Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach trying to change registration laws in the state. We return to our talk with Orion Danjuma, staff attorney with the ACLU's Racial Justice Program. The post Shawn Musgrave and Orion Danjuma: Vote Fraud Hoax as Voter Suppression appeared first on KPFA.

What can the writings, speeches, and actions of historical figures teach us? How do we actually learn from them, instead of merely idolizing and romanticizing them? Dr. Danjuma Gibson gives us some clarity on that often difficult task, with his newest book, Through the Eyes of Titans.Dr. Gibson is professor of pastoral theology, care, and counseling at Calvin Theological Seminary. He is a licensed, practicing psychotherapist, and served for 16 years as the senior pastor of a church in Chicago. Through the Eyes of Titans takes the lives of four people crucial to the civil rights movement--Ida B. Wells, Fannie Lou Hamer, Benjamin Mays, and Martin Luther King, Jr.--and offers their experiences as a way for us to really live into our own stories. These four people, despite their incredible accomplishments, were normal people. They weren't superhuman or superheroes, even though we often think about them in those terms. They were normal people who grasped onto the imagination of living into a better world, despite their circumstances, and they used that imagination to propel them forward, even through moments of terror. Dr. Gibson talks Eddie and Chris through this process, and offers each of us something difficult and profound to think about: “We just can't sit back and think about courage. How can we become more courageous in our own environment? You have to go towards that thing that you fear.”Resources:Buy Through the Eyes of Titans

First of all, Happy Birthday to James Boyman and congratulations for representing the ATP well in a 2-1 loss at Goodison to Luton Town. As a result, Alex and Ryan hold down the pod this week and discuss how big of a loss this is, where we thought Everton went wrong, and what this side could look like in the future. Lots of listener comments this week with emphasis on Sean Dyche's role and whether or not the adjustments he made - Gana off, 2 CFs, Patterson for Young, Danjuma for McNeil - were the right ones today. But most importantly, thank you James for bringing your good luck and charm to Goodison as you definitely made an impact. Support the show: https://krant.nlSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Weston McKennie is inching closer to the Premier League, Christian Pulisic's injury could keep him rooted at Chelsea, but the guys kick off the show with the breaking news that Arnaut Danjuma has completed his shock loan move to Tottenham. Fabrizio Romano provides the latest updates from the final few days of the transfer market before Ian Paul Joy, James Benge and Michael Lahoud focus on the doom and gloom surrounding Everton Football Club.
