It's finally happened, Joe has got his big break and he's off to join the theatre crowd as a part of a very high brow (and very, very serious) production. Somehow his explanation of this turn of events leads us to hear about a toupee with international consequences. Darren believes he has what it takes to become Ireland's number one celebrity impersonator, and Joe thinks Darren could become the national voice of the sliced pan. We hear about two interactions Darren had with Keith Duffy, and while the first interaction is a moment of great reflected celeb glory, the second is a brutal humiliation. We have a significant dinosaur update. The beast has found a home, too close to home, and Joe is wondering what long term impacts a dinosaur in Coolock might have on his life – from fighting with the neighbours about the beast in the front garden, to the children of the area being cursed with weekly visits to see the dinosaur, and even a potential backlash from the local youth. And Darren reveals a deep distress about discarded mattresses, from their smell to their potent threat to life. Send all of your comments and questions to stallit@goloudnow.com
While digitising my Boyzone interview tapes that led to the Sky documentary Boyzone No Matter What, I came across this short clip at the end of an interview, I was taping on the phone with Sinead. She had read and loved my Keith Duffy interview and had choice words to say about Louis Walsh - in 2001.
Another uncut clip from the audio tapes that led to Boyzone No Matter What. The revelation of the series to many viewers seems to be that manager Louis Walsh was the "villain" of the story. I believe there is more to it than that. But these tapes were part of the research for the series, and here's Keith in 2001, ripping into Louis, whom he says he loves nonetheless. Keith told me the same thing at the premiere of the series recently.
The tensions between members of Boyzone may be new and news to the millions of people watching the Sky Documentary Boyzone No Matter What, but they are not to me. The documentary originated in my archive of tapes. Here's a clip that didn't make the final edit. Me and Keith back in 2001.

In 1995 I wrote the official Boyzone book, Boyzone: Our Story. However, it wasn't until 2020 when I began doing Podcasts and revisited cassette tapes of interviews I did for that book and for articles in Irish newspapers and magazines, that I discovered there were many things Keith Duffy told me about the battles behind the scenes the band had with their manager Louis Walsh at the time. In fact, this tape/podcast was recorded at Elstree Studio in London while Boyzone were recording their first appearance on the TV show Top of the Pops and during a break from rehearsals, Keith and I sat on a stairway outside the building and as he told me about the pressures he was under Duffy began to cry. The tale is told, about conflict over contracts, and so on, relates to not only any boyband but also any musician in the music industry. Hopefully some will learn lessons from this Podcast.
On this episode, we delve deep into the world of Irish boybands. We chat about Boyzone and Westlife's beginnings; how they reflect the cultural context of Celtic Tiger Ireland; manufactured pop; authenticity and much more!Hope you all enjoy! *** Apologies, we rechecked our notes and sources and realized that the statement from 26:35 - 26:40 is incorrect, the correct quote came from Keith Duffy which states: "Initially, when Louis told us that, I thought he wanted us to be gay."Artwork by: @akalashellBoogie Woogie Bed by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Artist: http://audionautix.com/Episode Shoutouts: Instagram: the_bead_projectInstagram: thosemoviedudes Works Cited:A History of Irish Autobiography: edited by Liam Harte, The Celtic Tiger Celebrity Memoir. In this weekend's podcast, we talk about the episodes of Corrie broadcast in the UK between the 16th and the 20th October. The Phelan story has been building up to the revelation of his next hostage for a whie now, and this week, we finally find out... oh no, wait, we STILL don't know for sure who it's going to be yet. Come on Corrie - we're usually pretty patient when it comes to Phelan, but even we think this is starting to drag a bit now! At least things should start hotting up next week, it seems. Elsewhere, Coronation Street shows itself to be uncharacteristically up to date with its 'real life issue' story of the month as Summer gets a bit of Spice in her life, and the return of Mad Mary understandably drives Angie up the wall at number 3. The Kabin has us catching up with some past cast members and finding up what they're up to next - namely Keith Duffy, Tracy Shaw and Hayley Tamaddon, then we finish things off with a feedback section that includes two voicemails, a critical look at the Eva revenge storyline, and a story about a cheesy encounter with Sean Wilson.
In today's podcast we sit down with Keith Duffy, long-serving bassist with The CorrsFollowing a fine tradition set by the likes of James Jamerson and Joe Osborn, as a modern-day session player Keith Duffy's awareness of what it takes to make a situation work, together with an impulse to keep things simple, has has proved essential, allowing him to communicate the crucial feeling of each song so decisively. The Corrs have produced a number of international hits and multi-platinum albums, but despite all this success, for Keith it all comes down to holding down the groove and serving the song.
