How could they do such a thing! When was the last time you thought that? Maybe it came to mind the moment you heard of a pastor being removed from his position due to sin. Or perhaps right after you hear that somebody at work was fired for improper behavior. But a much better response would be in humility to learn from their mistakes, so we don't repeat them. Realizing we're capable of doing the very same thing! Today we'll set out to learn from the mistakes of the Israelites in Old Testament times. As you'll see, we struggle with some of the very same issues. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/302/29
Maybe as you were going through school you had a history teacher that would say something along the lines of, those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it! It's a reminder that there's something important to be learned from those that have gone on before us, and not only their victories but their mistakes. Today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor opens First Corinthians ten. And we'll receive sort of a history lesson regarding the people of Israel as they were wandering in the wilderness and engaged in warfare in the Promised Land. Pastor Ed has noticed some practical lessons for you and me contained in these historical events. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/302/29

Learn from others
Occupational therapists. Speech language pathologists. Artists. Family Therapists. Heather and Mike spend some time talking about the ways we have learned and our work has been impacted by people outside of the early childhood education field.
When we're Christians, we feel like we have to defend anything that seems to be different than what we learned about faith growing up. When we're trying to defend, we stop spending time listening. But we can learn from Jesus that it's important to spend time learning. If you want to walk with wisdom, you need to know that there is always something to learn from others.

Hey friends! This one is short and sweet. Wanted to just share my thoughts real quickly on our ability to learn things in life just by watching and garnering learnings from the people around us.Most of us have people in our lives who have lived a decent amount of life and have made mistakes, had success and have experiences that we can learn from without having to go out and make those same mistakes or have those same experiences ourselves. There are knowledge, learnings and experiences all around us if we are willing to watch, listen and learn.I know I've personally learned so much from the people around me, their failures, successes and lessons and I see it as almost a cheat code to life where I can speed up my learnings and knowledge by simply watching and listening to others.Hope something here was helpful for you, if you think it could be helpful to someone else, feel free to share it.Thanks so much for listening and supporting, means a ton to me!Talk soon, God bless!-KyleLets connect on social media:Instagram: instagram.com/k.david__/Facebook: facebook.com/kyledavidmusic/Twitter: twitter.com/kyle_crabtree_TikTok: kyle.david___Snapchat: kyledavid970Linkdin: Kyle DavidWatch on YouTube:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqTMk53w-pGoXurdppIC_Lw/featured?view_as=subscriber

“We made a big mistake. We configured the platform where—luckily it never saw production because it was caught in testing– but we had where we pointed the system to the wrong logo,” Brent Williams tells Carol, “We owned it. We said ‘This is us, we did this.'” Brent founded Benekiva, a SaaS technology platform that aims to transform the end-to-end insurance claims and servicing experience. Four years ago the startup employed only three people, and today it employs almost 60 people. After noticing the issue of an archaic claims and servicing system and then taking three years to research further, Brent began the journey of designing a platform to innovate it.In this episode, Brent recounts the process he and his co-founders took to get the startup going, prioritizing product development over immediate sales. And they discuss a key part of their growth: speaking at conferences. Carol and Brent discuss his talent strategy, especially with such a high growth rate. And you'll hear about his number one hobby-- golf. Learn more about Brent Williams and Benekiva. You can find more information on all our episodes at Vertical Elevation, and you can find Carol on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram.

Here we are again bumping up against this theme of crossing lines and boundaries. The reason we bring it up so often here is because we see Jesus doing this all over the pages of the Bible. He's constantly crossing lines and boundaries. And this story is no different - we'll notice all the lines and boundaries that mark off territory - and Jesus is inviting us to step out and learn that our line drawing has consequences. 1) Our line drawing causes us to be blind to those who are different or are in need. 2) Our line drawing prevents us from feeling compassion and empathy for those who are different. This is why line crossing is so important. People who live differently - think differently - believe differently are not our enemies. They may in fact be the very people who can teach us exactly what we need to learn. Speaker: Aaron Vis Scripture: Luke 16:19-31 https://www.bible.com/events/49033241

In this episode of The MVP Podcast, Mitch Gibson is joined by 4th Generation Insurance Agent, Ryan Smith from Smith and Sons Insurance Agency. The Protege Season 2 Contestant took time to discuss his path from studying Risk Management in college to helping young agents in Oklahoma and why this industry is the best-hidden gem out there. Ryan also talks about why young agents need to have a " Board of Mentors'' rather than just having one "Mentor." Don't be afraid to ask others for help and always try to make a difference each day. Episode Highlights: Ryan shares about his life outside of the insurance agency. (2:22) Ryan discusses his journey studying Risk Management. (9:44) Ryan explains why he decided to join the Protege. (18:47) Ryan mentions that he is the current Vice-Chair for the Big I of Oklahoma's Young Agents. (29:53) Ryan mentions the Big I of Oklahoma's Invest program, which helps young people learn about insurance not just as a topic, but as a profession. (32:45) Ryan discusses the Big I of Oklahoma's FILO, Future Insurance Leaders of Oklahoma, program, which is for young people who are new to the industry. (34:29) Ryan mentions that there is a lot of opportunity for young people in the industry and that there are a lot of changes happening, which is why he's more focused on going after larger accounts. (39:34) Ryan explains why he signs his documents with the title "Business Insurance Broker" rather than "Risk Advisor." (42:41) Ryan mentions that he's working to shift away from messages about general topics and toward addressing a specific problem on LinkedIn. (48:44) Ryan shares that one of the key takeaways from Charles Specht's presentation was that there are three ways to use the information on LinkedIn: as a curator, a creator, or a communicator. (51:50) Ryan discusses what thrills him about The Protege process. (55:12) Key Quotes: “It blows my mind that people don't realize how much information and value can be gained from just listening to podcasts.” - Ryan Smith “I think that there is a there's way more opportunity for young people in the industry. That being said, there's a lot of changes going on. And that's kind of why I'm more focused on going after larger accounts, is because I think that's where the agent, independent agent in 10-15 years or more or less, that's where you're going to be valuable is being able to work with people on larger accounts.” - Ryan Smith “Where I'm at now is trying to transition less from the messages that are just general topics, you know, just stuff I feel good about, and focusing more on like, here's a problem I see for my prospect. Here's my idea on how that can be addressed. And so that's where I'm at now with LinkedIn.” - Ryan Smith Resources Mentioned: Ryan Smith LinkedIn Smith and Sons Insurance Agency Big I Oklahoma Reach out to Mitch Gibson
I love learning from others. I love learning from songs, books, messages, and Bible studies. What I need to continually remember, though, is we are all different. What God is working on in me, may not be the same as He is for someone else. And what God is working on in someone else's life, may not be something He wants me to work on right now. Does that make sense? (Words are sometimes easier for me to SAY than type haha.) How often do we get overwhelmed with everything we “need to do”? And this can be spiritually, in our workouts and health, our jobs, our kids, our marriages…and the list goes on and on. What if God is asking you to sit in silence and listen for Him? What if He's wanting you to turn off all the noise and just listen for Him and what He's saying? If you're anything like me, it's really tough to do, but it's also pretty necessary! So stop focusing on what everyone else is learning and doing and focus on what GOD is telling you.I pray today's episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you'll ever love. September 11, 2001 changed our lives and our world forever. It is the one day each year that we all come together, regardless of our backgrounds, and remember the horrific acts of that day. But what happened on September 12, 2001? That is the day we began healing as a nation but it also showed our differences. In this episode, I talk about my experience post 9/11, as a PoC, and how it impacted the parenting of my 4 children. Does it sound stupid? Well it isn't. I always made things in my life to “appear” in a certain way in other people's eyes. I always thought that I had to look cool, look rich, look successful, trying to become famous, etc. But what happened made me understand that ambition and wanting to become rich and successful is ok, but doing anything to achieve that is not ok. You need to do what you like or what you're good at. Don't look at what other people did, craft your own way. For example, you don't need to read 50 books about something to start a successful business, you need to figure out what people need and where their attention is and just execute. If you're not good at something, just focus on those things you're good at and find a need there. Execute in your own way instead of looking at others and waiting. So this is what I learned. Don't look at what other people do; craft your own way; don't try to do something just because other people did it successfully; don't try to appear in a certain way; don't force yourself to be someone you're not. Be you.
