Pramila Patten, UN USG on Sexual Violence in Conflict

Global Connections Television Podcast

SRSG Pramila Patten, originally from Mauritius, was appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres as Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict with the rank of Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. Her office was established by Security Council Resolution 1888 and introduced by Hillary Clinton. USG Patten succeeded Margot Wallström and Zainab Bangura, both of whom have been guests on Global Connections Television.   The United Nations Sexual Violence in Conflict Office confronts some of the most horrendous and complex acts during wartime: violence against women, which is a very underreported crime. The Secretary General's Annual Report on Conflict Related Sexual Violence has  very specific, feasible and logical suggestions  how to reduce this problem.   A few examples include: need for member states to comply with Arms Treaties; provide  access to the reports and documentation of crimes;   adopt time-bound commitments;  predictable funding levels; enhance accountability. Every war has shown an increase in sexual violence.

A slightly polish but lovingly crafted podcast, but over long, pretentious, and padded with irrelevant subplots, and one that finally gives birth to a mouse of an idea, that Mike and Conny are much alike. Its true subject matter is no more then male bonding between two boastful and unlovely characters, and its real purpous seems to have been to bring together on air Mike and Conny. Conny perhaps remembering Bogart's not dissimilar duel with Rod Steiger in "The Harder They Fall" -(1956) gos for a minimalist approach, Mike yells a lot. - Leslie Halliwell (From beyond the grave)

Amanda and Iris need a change in their lives. Both struggling with their respective love lives, they meet on a house sharing website and decide to switch homes for the Christmas holiday and 24 hours later Iris is in Los Angeles while Amanda is walking into a quaint cottage in the English country outside London. Soon Amanda meets Iris' dreamy brother, Graham and Amanda meets Miles, a composer colleague of Amanda's. Soon both women are forgetting about their romantical woes and watching their lives change in new and charming ways. Joe invites Cadaverdad Jef Burnham onto the show to discuss this modern holiday classic neither had previously seen, checking it off their list of shame.

Verdenskrig.

Marie har aldrig set Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World. Niels har aldrig set Blow-up.

Thanks Goffy, the extra effort is appreciated. Chris was somehow seduced into watching and reviewing this dystopian Orphan Black rip off. 43:35 TRAIN TO BUSAN (2016) Goffy proudly proclaims this to be the only Korean, Zombie movie that his wife can stomach. Then again, would you trust the opinion of a man who describes the Korean peninsular as a scrotum? 59:15 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Goffy has been playing around on Twitter this week and shares a discussion about great director streaks. EPISODE 027 DREDD, STRAW DOGS, THE JUNGLE BOOK For all you Dave fans out there (both of you) we can only apologise and offer our deepest condolences in his absence. Unfortunately Dave had to attend a funeral and wasn't in the mood to turn on the charm and record a podcast, you'll have to make do with Moid and Russ. Dave will return in a couple of weeks. The show must go on. When Moid and Russ get together they tend to take the opportunity to clear a backlog and deliver as many reviews as they can. So, after a brief chat about Russ' tattoos we have 13 movies to ponder, prod and pick apart. ENJOY. BEEN FLICKED ROMAN J. ISRAEL, ESQ (2017) Both Russ and Moid were big fans of Dan Gilroy's previous film, Nightcrawler, Russ watched this with high expectations. FRANK (2014) As a lover of quirky independent film Moid has had this on the radar for a while. As if to prove it's meta credentials this is as quirky and indy as the subject matter but with Michael Fassbender entombed in a big paper mâché head. It's as weird as loveable as it sounds. GINGER SNAPS (2000) Trying his best not be out-weirded by Frank, Russ watched this werewolf movie that is based on ginger girls turning into werewolves because they started their periods when a full moon was out? Pretty sure that's what Russ said, I wasn't listening. LET ME IN (2010) Quite a rarity in the film world. A remake of a great film that isn't total cash grab abomination. We recommend you also watch the 2008 Swedish original, Let the right one in. Go on, let her in, she won't bite. THE DOGS OF WAR (1980) I think we all agree that we all want to watch this just to experience Christopher Walken doing a full on Christopher Walken. DREDD (2012) Oh the pressure. Moid has Judge Dredd and 2000 AD to thank for his love of comics and Russ considers this one of the best adaptations around. What will Moid think? Does anybody care? STRAW DOGS (1971) The original and gritty cult classic. Nuff said. THE JUNGLE BOOK (2016) Moid still has the original animated film on his List Of Shame but chose to watch this instead. For the second movie in one show we a chance to see the great man Christoper Walken in action. DRUGSTORE COWBOY (1989) Matt Dillon, where are you hiding? Somebody give this guy a job, he's great. Kelly Lynch, Not so much. SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD (2012) Admit it, you want to watch this based on the title and the poster? Steve Carell delivers another of those straight faced performances that somehow make you laugh. It's the end of the world as we know it. TAKE YOUR PILLS (2018) This Netflix documentary really hit a nerve with both Moid and Russ. Russ had to have a lie down, and take some pills. FRACTURE (2007) Moid continues his Gosgasm with this unremarkable looking movie. Everything about it looks middle of the road. Will it defy expectations? I KILL GIANTS (2017) Let's not judge a book by it's cover, but that is an awesome poster. Russ cried like a little girl at this, I think that means he liked it? EPISODE 026 THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, DEADPOOL, BERLIN SYNDROME This week's show has a very different vibe compared to last week's laughter and cough fest. Maybe Dave and Dwayne take their film reviewing career more seriously than Russ and Chris, maybe not. This episode has a real mixed bag of reviews. We have everything from a late 80's war movie to a modern thriller. We even have time to throw in a historical drama that ignites a furious disagreement between Moid and Dwayne. Moid won the argument by default after Dwayne resorted to name calling which Moid edited out later. BEEN FLICKED 12:00 CASUALTIES OF WAR (1989) Dave reviews this almost forgotten Vietnam movie starring Michael J Fox and Sean Penn. Dave is a self proclaimed Brian De Palma fan, will this live up to his expectations? 28:55 THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST (2004) Always near the front of the queue when it comes to provocation and controversy (well, not really, he only watched a film) Moid reviews the Mel Gibson directed phenomenon, The Passion of the Christ. Was it worth the hype? Is it actually any good? What's Mel Gibson's problem? 44:48 BERLIN SYNDROME (2017) Dwayne has been making the most of his Netflix subscription and actually watched a film since he was last on the show. 53:50 DEADPOOL (2016) You read that right. We wouldn't normally review a film that everybody has seen and nobody wants to hear about but we didn't have the heart to stop Dave. He was so proud to have watched a superhero film we let him have his 10 minutes of fun. 1:00:40 QUESTION TIME This weeks question is from our spiritual second home, San Francisco. EPISODE 024 SCHINDLER'S LIST, AMERICAN SNIPER, KEANU   This week's show was recorded two days later than usual due to Moid's aggressive migraine condition. Moid would like to extend a medium sized Thank You to Dave for shuffling his very time sensitive schedule to accommodate the podcast. We apologise If the show feels somewhat flat and void of it's usual carnival atmosphere, lets just say that migraine medication can help with the pain but nothing clouds the creative process like a healthy dose of Sumatriptan. Hopefully we will be back to full strength next time. To be honest, its still a good show. We just want the very best for our listeners. Welcome new listeners. Once again the show has continued to spread its influence across the universe. In the past two weeks we have our first listeners from Belarus, Poland, Hong Kong and China. Welcome everybody. BEEN FLICKED 5:30 SCHINDLER'S LIST Episode 008: THE LIST OF SHAME  Back when we compiled our Lists of Shame (link above) both Moid and Dave had this at number three. It's one of those films you maybe should have watched years ago but never got round to it. Dave gut the ball rolling a couple of weeks ago which prompted Moid to pull hid finger out and cross this off the list. How do you subjectively review a film about the Holocaust? Can you even say you enjoyed such an experience? Find out what we think here. 23:40 AMERICAN SNIPER Another movie about war, death and despair. We didn't plan it this way, however, American Sniper was very well received when it was released a couple of years ago. The lads discuss the movie and the new breed of introspective modern war films. 38:00 KEANU Just look at that poster, looks like the worst film ever made doesn't it? As if to counter the last two reviews and save us from all the death and blood, Moid reviews a comedy about a gangster cat. Admittedly the film does have it's fair share of death and blood but it's of the funny variety, and there's a cute cat. Can Key and Peele restore Moid's faith in comedy? 45:40 Questions & Letters The Snakeskin Movie Lounge is a fiercely independent podcast. EPISODE 022 SNOWPIERCER,FOCUS,THE APARTMENT This week Moid is joined by the now-regular Chris and a brand new member of the team. All the way from Cambridge, please welcome Goffy. We didn't realise until after recording that Goffy traveled to the Lounge on public transport, missed his bus home, had to spend the night away from his wife and children and didn't get home until the following afternoon. If this is the kind of dedication out talent brings to the show, we deserve a few more 5 star reviews on iTunes. Goffy, we salute you sir. After an introductory conversation about the delights of Asian fusion food and Goffy's impending culinary YouTube project, we get down to some serious Been Flicking. BEEN FLICKED 10:54 CALVARY  Moid has found a hidden gem, a foul mouthed, child abuse tinged gem, but a gem nonetheless. 18:30 THE APARTMENT For his first ever review Goffy takes us back to 1960 (not literally, that's currently impossible) and tells us why we should all seek out this Billy Wilder classic. 34:13 FOCUS We love Will Smith, we love Margot Robbie, we love movies about conmen. What could possibly go wrong? 45:20 LOVE AND MERCY John Cusack and Paul Dano, two actors we don't see enough of, star in this Beach Boys biopic. 59:35 SNOWPIERCER Another potential hidden gem. Moid reviews this graphic novel adaptation. Its the apocalypse on a train, in the snow. What could possibly go wrong? QUESTIONS & ANSWERS 1:13:40 The worst named segment on the internet is back.

Vi skammer os, for som selvudnævnte filmnørder, burde vi virkelig ha' set Jaws, The Apartment, 8½, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid og Singin' in the Rain for lang tid siden. Niels kører et regn-tema i stilling med Singin' in the Rain og Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

MEN!...
