After weeks soaking in Italy's lakes, mountains, cities, and countryside, we are back—and we've got stories. From misty lakeside mornings in Lake Garda to harrowing, almost-died-on-a-mountain Jeep turns in the Dolomites, this is a full-bodied recap of their three-week Italian adventure. Whether you're dreaming of Florence, fantasizing about spa days, or just here for the unfiltered travel laughs, this episode will transport you. You'll also get a dose of cultural reflection, some wellness wisdom from the Alps, and why sometimes the most luxurious thing you can do... is slow down.   Some key takeaways from this episode include: Slowing down isn't lazy—it's powerful. The Italian pace reminded us how beauty, wellness, and relationships thrive without the rush. Where you are changes who you are. Culture influences energy, and immersing yourself in a place like Italy can shift your mindset toward care, connection, and consciousness. Nature recalibrates you. Whether it's a mountaintop hike or a boat on the lake, the outdoors offered perspective we didn't know we needed.

La Dolce Vita (1960) marked a huge milestone in world cinema: the passing of Italian neo-realism to a new generation less steeped in war and poverty, more affluent and optimistic, and hungry for a taste of all the glamour that television, rock n roll, and 7-day-a-week PR would bring. Yet the film was rooted in the old world, with its powerful criticism of crumbling morals and the increasing shallowness of modern life. It also heralded the full flowering of Federico Fellini, considered by many even today one of the greatest film directors of all time. While the impact 65 years ago was huge, what impact can the film hold today? Don't miss our young panel's reaction to this classic and find out whether this masterpiece still resonates in a timeless way or has already faded like an old black-and-white print. Dana and Tom with 5x Club guest, Peterson W. Hill (Co-Host of the War Starts at Midnight podcast) discuss La Dolce Vita (1960) for its 65th anniversary: written and directed by Frederico Fellini with Ennio Flaiano, Tullio Pinelli, Brunello Rondi, and Pier Paolo Pasolini, music by Nino Rota, cinematography by Otello Martelli, starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg, Anouk Aimee, and Yvonne Furneaux.Plot Summary: Set against the glamorous backdrop of Rome in the 1950s, La Dolce Vita follows Marcello Rubini, a jaded journalist, as he drifts through a series of decadent encounters over seven days and nights.Torn between the shallow allure of celebrity culture and his yearning for deeper meaning, Marcello is drawn into the chaotic lives of socialites, artists, and film stars. As he navigates lavish parties, fleeting romances, and existential crises, the film explores themes of decadence, disillusionment, and the search for purpose in a world consumed by hedonism. The film's iconic imagery, including Anita Ekberg's midnight wade in the Trevi Fountain, cements its status as a cinematic masterpiece and a poignant reflection on modern life.Guest:Peterson W. I'd like to cordially welcome you to the second annual LA Food Pod Holiday Party!  Father Sal and I are joined by our favorite New York-based podcast ho ho hosts, Nancy DaSilva and Bits Nicholas of Compliments to the Chef, for a jolly ole time discussing what's hot in the Big Apple, what we make of the premature closure of Frog Club, the quixotic restaurant helmed by Liz Johnson of Horses on Sunset fame, and we each bring a holiday cocktail to the table to hopefully inspire you to do some festive drinking of your own, dear listener. We close things off with an historic LA Food Pod Holiday Quiz - will Father Sal be able to secure the crown for Los Angeles, or will the interlopers from New York escape with the dub? Stay tuned to find out.  In Part 2, we're joined by Marc Rose and Med Abrous, the co-owners of Call Mom Hosptialtiy Group. Their restaurant Genghis Cohen is one of the hottest tickets in town on any given Christmas, so much so, that they refer to it as their Super Bowl. Marc and Med join us to talk about how their restaurant handles the holiday, and, as the owners of La Dolce Vita in Beverly Hills, we also discuss how they approach taking over legacy spaces in a way that both honors their history, while ushering them into a new era.  Helpful Links: Compliments to the Chef Pod https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/compliments-to-the-chef/id1727777167 Compliments to the Chef on IG https://www.instagram.com/complimentstothechef_pod/ Pete Wells on Frog Club https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/10/dining/frog-club-nyc-closes.html Vox on Crumbl https://www.vox.com/money/389782/crumbl-cookies-tiktok-viral-consumption Genghis Cohen https://www.genghiscohen.com/ La Dolce Vita https://www.ladolcevitabeverlyhills.com/ Call Mom Hospitality Group https://www.didyoucallmom.com/ McConnell's / Genghis Cohen collab https://www.instagram.com/p/DDupoqDyCd_/?img_index=1 -- Go check out The Lonely Oyster in Echo Park! https://thelonelyoyster.com/ – Get 10% off at House of Macadamias using code "LAFOOD" https://www.houseofmacadamias.com/pages/la-foods --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thelafoodpodcast/support

On this episode, Heather is back in the good ol' US of A after an epic two-week trip to Italia. This will be a two part episode of everything she got into while on vacation. We start with week one, landing in Milan, visiting Lake Garda and then headed to Villa Yeppa to film some exciting things with her ATL Italians (and a few new characters). While she thrived living La Dolce Vita, the gastro issues started back up as soon as she sat down in Delta One.
