Desde Little Miss Sunshine hasta Y Tu Mamá También, hacemos un repaso por la presencia de las eternas carreteras en el cine.
Aldo Juraidini Zorrilla is a Design Director at Studio Rodrigo. He has worked in fintech, healthcare, and the nonprofit sector, with clients including (but not limited) to Barclays, Peacock, Google, Make the Road NY, and more. Plus! Aldo leads Cinema Rodrigo once a month, when everyone is welcome to watch a film and chat about it over drinks and food. Y tu mamá también made an impact on Aldo at a young age. The movie stars Gael Garcia Bernal as Julio and Diego Luna as Tenoch, two very close friends who embark on a road trip with Luisa, played by Maribel Verdú. At the beginning of their trek, Julio and Tenoch have their own selfish intentions but as the journey progresses, Luisa teaches them a lesson or two, changing their lives in unexpected ways.-Y tu mamá también (2001)https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245574/https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0190859/ https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0190860/ https://www.theguardian.com/film/2002/apr/12/1 https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/25/movies/y-tu-mama-tambien.html-Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Lunahttps://variety.com/2024/film/news/la-maquina-diego-luna-gael-garcia-bernal-boxing-butts-botox-hulu-1236174602/https://letterboxd.com/crew/story/gael-garcia-bernal-and-diego-luna-reflect/ -Aldo Juraidini Zorrillahttps://www.aldojuraidini.com/https://www.cinemarodrigo.com/-Other movies and art discussedhttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt6155172/https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245712/https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061722/https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113540/https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110598/https://olympics.com/en/olympic-games/mexico-city-1968/logo-designhttps://www.brian-eno.net/about/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico_City_Metrohttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt17677860/https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0206634/https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0939182/
When the Rommies' partners go away for the summer, they soon realize they need a new outlet for their horniness, and what better way than to road trip to the beach with a cousin-in-law?? Listen in as they dive into Alfonso Cuarón's masterpiece, which may be the horniest and summeriest (and saddest) film of the entire run.
This week on Peanuts and Popcorn, we begin with the Popcorn with two excellent selections, perhaps the two best this season, Atlantic City (1980), and Y Tu Mamá También (2001). In Peanuts, we salute the Detroit Tigers, their excellent fans and their first-rate broadcaster. The Chicago White Sox are now the worst team of the modern era and Shohei Otani has possibly the greatest day of any hitter ever. Next Show: Leo's Pick: The Road to Perdition (2002) Tom's Pick: The Last Detail (1973)

Coming of age story? Sexual awakening? Road trip movie? These all characterize Alfonso Cuarón's tale of two young men and one women whose lives intersect for a brief period one summer… kind of. While this film displays a keen understanding of convention it constantly subverts expectations and values along and becomes something all the more charming, touching, challenging, and political at heart. Two future superstars, Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna alongside Maribel Verdu, propel this still iconoclastic film to a rare stature alongside the best of Mexican cinema. The new CHALLENGERS is a sports drama the same way Alfonso Cuarón's Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN is a road movie: secondarily, as both films tend to be associated first with their respective sexy love triangles, each with a woman at its center. That shared character dynamic results in a lot of connections between the two films, which we'll cover in the next episode, but this week we're focusing on all the other elements that distinguish Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN, from the way its narration forces us to consider the bigger picture that's ignored by our young protagonists, to an ending revelation that recontextualizes (or, for one of our panelists, undermines) everything that comes before. And in Feedback, we take up a spoiler-filled question about the ending and viewer reception of CIVIL WAR. Please share your comments, thoughts, and questions about Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN, CHALLENGERS, or anything else in the world of film, by sending an email to comments@nextpictureshow.net, or leaving a short voicemail at (773) 234-9730. Y Tu Mamá También has been on my list and it's the perfect film for this summer heat and the spirit of adventure and exploration. Me and Jai had a great time diving into this world that neither one of us have visited in quite a while. Directed by Alfonso Cuarón who takes you on a short but fulfilling journey that leaves you questioning and reminiscing about your own similar experiences. Our "Summer Abroad" international film series continues with director Oz Rodriguez (Miguel Wants to Fight, SNL) joining to discuss Alfonso Cuarón's Mexican road picture, Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN starring Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal and Maribel Verdú. Cuarón and his brother Carlos scripted this unconventional coming-of-age story of two teenage boys on a road trip, while vying for the affection of a newly single traveling companion in her late twenties. Layered against the backdrop of Mexico's class disparity and late-millennium political upheaval, Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN was an unqualified world cinema smash upon release in 2001, but how has its frank and sexy subject matter matured in the past two decades? Join Mama's discussion of MAMA along with diversions into Oppenheimer, Andor, Pablo Larraín, Looking, directing fight scenes, natural wine, Great Expectations, circumcision and much, much more! MIGUEL WANTS TO FIGHT is available to stream on Hulu. Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN is available for streaming rental and on Blu-ray from The Criterion Collection.

It's Calum's Birthday! So, he decided we were going to enjoy some nice, friendly soft-core entertainment together; as friends do! You guessed it, this week we discussed Y tu mamá también (2001) otherwise known as And Your Mother Too (2001). While the obvious happens, this film has a lot of additional depth (lol). So, we get really deep in our discussions. Why don't you get deep with us? We'd love to hear your thoughts if you've watched this film. You'll probably be more eloquent than us awkwardly fumbling around discussing awkward fumbling. In the thirtieth episode of Season 8 (Coming-of-Ages) Kyle is joined by a panel of guests, fellow podcaster Ben Thelen, journalist Kerry Harwin, and screenwriter Gio Maldonado, to discuss a friendship defined by harmful masculinity, divided class, and covert sexuality in a shifting political Mexico in Alfonso Cuarón's riveting road film of discovery and social commentary Y Tu Mamá También (2001).
"Life is like the surf, so give yourself away like the sea." We watched Y tu mamá también (2001) with our friend Sandra Espinoza and we're packing the station wagon for a roadtrip to Boca del Cielo. Time is a hell of a concept and man did it do a number on us when we re-watched this classic of Mexican cinema. As young lads first introduced to this film, we were struck by the beauty of its cast, its locations and its story, but as aged queens of the 2020's we've really changed who we identify with. Of course as teens coming to grips with our queerness we sided with the beautiful Julio (Gael García Bernal) and Tenoch (Diego Luna) and their spontaneous beach trip. Now that we're grown - it's fully team Luisa (Maribel Verdú) who feels like she's babysitting without getting paid. Masterfully directed by Alfonso Cuarón and shot by Emmanuel "Chivo" Lubezki - it captures the beauty of Mexico in a way not often seen in American movies. No yellow filter to be found - just 2 boys, a girl, a lot of tequila and colorful translations of Mexican slang. No mames guey!
