In this episode, Aubrey McCarthy, Managing Director of AMC Removals, discusses how he began within the industry at the tender age of 16, to fund himself while still in education, by advertising that he could move stuff for people locally. 3 x master's & 1 x degree later, Aubrey remains within the moving industry and still hasn't found a proper job! AMC Removals is based in Dublin but also has an office in San Miguel, Spain. AMC Removals covers all of Ireland and has 3 road-trains in Europe on a weekly basis, and also run 3 x 18 tonne drop bodies, 7/8 x low loaders and 2 x Pantechnicons. AMC Removals offer both containerised storage (approximately 1,000) and self-storage. Aubrey has faced two challenges, firstly, finding that the moving industry is a closed shop, where newcomers are viewed suspiciously, and he can totally understand why, and secondly, it was very difficult to get good staff, so he now has policies and schemes in place to attract and assist them. The one thing Aubrey would like to change from his moving past was to send his late father to industry related conferences where, as a playboy, he would have entertained and put AMC Removals on the map. Aubrey's highpoint of being within the industry is growing the business organically and becoming a high-end quality mover, where Aubrey has moved the likes of Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber, and more recently undertaken a move which cost half a million!!! The one thing Aubrey would like to change within the industry is having the industry as a whole wake-up to IT, and re-educate the crews, and even agents, to be more IT friendly. The advice Aubrey would give himself just starting out within the industry again is that the raw materials to your business are your trucks, but the key raw materials are your staff, and you have to treat them as your greatest asset, as well as listen to them too. In the next 5 years Aubrey sees himself as Auctioneer once again for the annual BAR Conference, and opening a wing in his detox centre for attendees!

With the recent passing of Lucy Simon, playing the role of Lily Craven in "The Secret Garden" is both special and bittersweet for Sierra Boggess and the rest of the cast. Despite people telling her to switch to vocal performance, Sierra stayed as a musical theatre major so she can “graduate a triple threat.” She recalls how she got to do Phantom in Las Vegas which changed the trajectory of her career. She considers leaning into acting as the most important aspect no matter what you're doing and always considers her character's need at the moment to help her with how she's going to sing or dance. Being a part of "The Secret Garden" now playing at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, Sierra talks about the different messages of the show, her relationship with Lucy and how they're honoring her, and the contrast between working with adults and kids. She also gets real about her beliefs, her relationship with fans, knowing what your truth is and why you shouldn't let anyone take your love of performing away. Sierra Boggess is an Olivier-nominated actress who made her Broadway debut in 2007, originating the role of Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" wherein she received Drama Desk and Drama League nominations. She's also best known for her re-inventing the coveted role of Christine Daae in Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera". In fact, Lord Webber himself went on record to say that she's the best Christine. Her other stage credits include "It Shoulda Been You", "School of Rock", "Master Class", "Love, Loss, and What I Wore", and "Music in the Air". She also starred in London West End's "Les Miserables", and "Love Never Dies". Currently, Sierra is playing Lily Craven in "The Secret Garden" at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theatre. In this podcast, we'll be talking to pianist, singer, musical arranger, director and producer Dominic Ferris. Dominic's credits include producing for well-known singers such as Michael Ball, Alfie Boe and, currently, the final studio album of Dame Shirley Bassey. His collaborations with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra have sold over 3 million albums worldwide. He joined the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra as assistant musical director and pianist for the Elvis Presley: If I Can Dream UK arena tour, and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra for the USA anniversary tour, ending at Graceland with Priscilla Presley for the Elvis 40th Anniversary Celebrations. Dominic also tours around the world with his piano duo The Piano Brothers. He is one half of musical theatre double act Ferris & Milnes, who have become known for their medleys of Stephen Sondheim, George Gershwin and Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber. Dominic is a classically-trained musician, having studied piano performance, singing and conducting at the Royal College of Music in London. In this podcast, we'll be hearing about his varied background in the classical, pop and musical theatre genres. We also discuss the crossover market and the process that goes into producing and creating a crossover album. In particular, he talks about working with Michael Ball and Alfie Boe. Interestingly, Dominic says that crossover albums are among the last that people listen to in full. This leads to a really fascinating discussion about the creation of music releases in an age of streaming and the current pop music market. Having exposure to many different genres of music, it seems, can contribute to one's musicianship and musicality and this is certainly the case in Dominic's work. Finally, we talk about a poignant video project he helped to produce: a performance of "We'll Meet Again," the iconic wartime song made famous by Dame Vera Lynn. It was given by some of the top names in the West End and entertainment to boost morale for the UK theatre industry. Many thanks to Dominic for taking the time to talk especially for this podcast!
