Today's episode is about getting into bigger rooms with bigger people than you. Rooms where you're not the teacher, but the student. This is the ticket to exponential growth towards becoming extraordinary in whatever aspect of life you're focused on improving. I tell a story from my life where I put myself in a room with Pat Summitt: Olympic Gold and Silver medalist, Naismith Basketball Coach of the Century, 11th in Sports News list of 50 Greatest Coaches of all Time and the only woman on that list. Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama, received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs and inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. I put myself in this room to grow myself mentally and physically beyond what I knew was possible staying in my own comfortable bubble. In this room Pat Summitt pushed me beyond my limits along with 500+ other girls. I was exposed to a hunger in other human beings to excel that I never knew existed and I share something that happened at the end of the training camp something Pat Summitt gave me that changed my life forever.

Today's episode is the second of a few episodes in which I will be talking about quotes that I took from my gift book for graduating athletes called, "Inspiration for the Graduate." As it is graduation season right now, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight some of the quotes in that book. I wrote the book, so I could give it to my graduating seniors. I soon had other coaches asking me how they could get it, so I published it, and it has been my bestselling book by far.I am running a special on "Inspiration of the Graduate" for the month of May. Usually, it retails for $7.95, and the 10-pack is $70.00. However, right now, you can get individual copies of it for just $6.95 and the 10-pack for $65.00. Go to the Shop page of the SlamDunk Success site to order it.In today's episode, I actually talk about two quotes, both of them about the team theme in the book called, "Discipline." The quotes are by two of the all-time great college basketball coaches - Bobby Knight and Pat Summitt. I think they get at the heart of what discipline truly is and why it is so important for success.

Welcome again to the Bill Bradley Collective, where it is part two of this week's double drop: a conversation profiling legendary Tennessee women's college basketball coach Pat Summitt. Over a career spanning nearly four decades, the late Summitt set the record book for all to try and catch. Eight national titles, eighteen Final Four appearances, 1,000+ wins and an Olympic gold medal are among her many notable accomplishments, but her legacy goes far beyond the stat sheet and the hardware. Summitt's career and eventual ascension of her and the Lady Vols' program coincide with the rise and growth of the sport, itself. The greatest and highest profile rivalry the sport has ever seen, matching Tennessee and UConn, has attracted more eyes to the women's game than any other and is in large part responsible for the elevated profile the sport maintains today, and Summitt and Huskies coach Geno Auriemma were the catalysts. Her place among the greatest coaches in college basketball history; the fight with early-onset Alzheimer's disease that ended her career and took her life far prematurely; and the brief but sordid coaching career of son Tyler are all also considered in this week's profile of the late coach Pat Summitt on the Bill Bradley Collective.

Justin Spizman is an award-winning and best-selling author, ghostwriter, editor, and proposal writer. Since beginning his writing career in law school, Spizman has worked on numerous nonfiction books and successful book proposals. He now works with people from all different backgrounds, upbringings, and expertise (including celebrities, athletes, and entertainers) to author and consult on their books. Working closely with some of the most successful people in their respective industries, Spizman has gained strong insight and understanding into the most efficient and effective ways to create a marketable story. He collaborates with clients to not only write books, but also strengthen brands, build legacies, and create enormous opportunities. In this episode: Pat Summitt, the former Head Coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team, once said, “Most people get excited about the games, but I get excited about practice because that's my classroom.” This wisdom doesn't only apply to athletic coaches. Whether on the court or in an office, leaders have to be students of the game. This is just one takeaway from award-winning author Justin Spizman's study of the chemistry and capability of coaching, which he describes in his book, Coach: The Greatest Teachers in Sports and Their Lessons for Us All. In his book, Spizman interviews 168 renowned leaders in sports, including famous coaches like Pat Summitt, Bill Belichick, and Aimee Boorman, and also dozens of unknowns who lead high school teams or stand at the side of individuals and teams in minor sports, to discover their strategies for developing top-performing players and teams. Although every coach has a unique approach, Spizman breaks down their action plans into four main coaching styles: the strategists, the team builders, the technicians, and the closers. When you understand your coaching style, you can better play to your strengths, hire for your weaknesses, build an impressive team, and help individual players reach their full potential. However, these four categories aren't the only keys to success. No matter if you're in business or sports, all coaches need fortitude, dedication, and an insatiable desire to learn and improve. Spizman talks about this and more as he joins Thomas A. Stewart on The Leading Edge — a place where new ideas emerge and are sharpened, and where leaders look to find the edge that brings success for themselves, their teams, and their enterprises. In this episode of The Leading Edge, Thomas A. Stewart talks with best-selling author and consultant, Justin Spizman, about lessons on leadership from some of the best coaches in the sports industry. Spizman shares how this wisdom applies to the business world, guides listeners through the four coaching styles, and explains why it's crucial for leaders to be a student of their craft.

Today we are talking to the son of a minister who never doubted if his parents loved him!  As a kid, he moved around a lot.  This was before cellphones and the ability to keep in touch!  Life transitions can be hard! Today we are talking about how Joshua Crisp's childhood played into what he's doing now in the Senior Living community!  What are your thoughts about retirement and the titles you've had that define your purpose for living?  Why does the nursing home industry get a bad rap?  The values Joshua's parents instilled he's drawing from today as a father and business leader!  You never know if the path you are on is preparing you for tomorrow! Better Call Daddy: The Safe Space For Controversy. Josh Crisp is a senior living executive with more than 16 years of experience in development, construction, and management of senior living communities across the southeast.
