FairPlay | Challenging Wrongful Convictions with Imran Siddiqui
FairPlay Ep4 | Exonerated with Valentino Dixon It Took 27 Years For Him To Get Justice May 17, 2021 | Imran Siddiqui | JusticeNews.Net Joining me on this episode of FairPlay is someone who persistently fought for justice for his own life and his freedom and for the truth and he got it but it took him about 27 years to get there, and his name is Valentino Dixon. And he spoke with us out of Buffalo NewYork. On June 12, 1992, the jury convicted Dixon of second-degree murder of Torriano Jackson, attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced to 38 1/3 years to life in prison. Fast forward to 26 plus years to September 19, 2018, Lamarr Scott, the actual shooter, who admitted to this crime many times before, pled guilty to manslaughter in return for a sentence that would run with the 25 to 50 year sentence he was already serving for another killing. That same day, Dixon's convictions for second-degree murder of Torriano Jackson, attempted murder, and assault were vacated and the prosecution dismissed the charges. The conviction for criminal possession of a weapon remained intact because the TEC-9 that Scott said he used in the shooting belonged to Dixon. Dixon was then released from prison more than 27 years after his arrest in 1991. Valentino's case is best described in the words of Max Adler at The Golf Digest. "The case is complicated, but on the surface it involves shoddy police work, zero physical evidence linking Dixon, conflicting testimony of unreliable witnesses, the videotaped confession to the crime by another man, a public defender who didn't call a witness at trial, and perjury charges against those who said Dixon didn't do it. All together, a fairly clear instance of local officials hastily railroading a young black man with a prior criminal record into jail. Dixon's past wasn't spotless, he had sold some cocaine, but that didn't make him a murderer." A lot of the unjust and cruel treatment that Valentino has suffered throughout his 27 year long nightmare can easily be understood by going through the work of Phil Fairbanks at The Buffalo News and by Maurice Possley senior researcher at the National Registry of Exonerations. For now he awaits the result of a pending law suit against his accusers. His nightmare, partly continues, he says in the interview, the city ran out of money. But do you think someone who's been exonerated, proved out to be right and innocent of the crimes they said he committed, do you think that person can ever lead a normal life? Do you think they have destroyed that person's life? What's next for Valentino Dixon? Find out on FairPlay at Justice News.net Explore Valentino's art at ValentinoDixon.com
On episode 89 Nathan is off filming iCarly and Brett's got a guest co-host! This week Max Adler is here to tell us about his move to LA, his one year old son Dylan, and his never stopping career!
It’s the sixty-fourth episode of On The List with Brett Gursky. This week's guest Max Adler talks all about his career as an actor. Max takes Brett behind-the-scenes of his latest film “The Trial of the Chicago 7”, which is nominated for 6 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. He talks about working with Aaron Sorkin, who wrote and directed the movie, as well as his co-stars like Sacha Baron Cohen. Brett and Max also go over this year’s Oscar nominations and make some predictions in the major categories. Then Max takes Brett back to the beginning, to his days growing up in Arizona and how he ended up making the move to Hollywood after high school. Max talks about the audition that changed his life, scoring him the role of “David Karofsky” on “Glee”, and what it meant to him to play such a groundbreaking role on the Emmy-winning television series. Max also discusses other roles he loved to play, including “Tank” on the hit show “Switched At Birth” and “Jimmy Stefanik” in the hit movie “Sully”, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Tom Hanks. Last but not least, Max offers his advice to aspiring actors. Be sure to check out “The Trial of the Chicago 7” now streaming on Netflix and tune in to the 93rd Oscars on Sunday April 25th.
Virginia gave Duke everything they could handle in another instant classic within ACC lacrosse play. The game went back and forth all game long seeing both teams hold leads of 2 goals or more, only to see the other team battle back right through into overtime. Joe Robertson scored 2 goals and had 3 assists on the day including the game winner in overtime, his second game winning OT goal of the season. Brennan O'Neill tallied 3 goals and 2 assists and Mike Sowers went for 3 goals in the Blue Devils win. Dox Aitken and Charlie Bertrand paced UVA with 3 goals each on the day and Payton Cormier and Matt Moore each put up 2 goals of their own in the Cav's loss. Alex Rode and Max Adler each had great days in net for their respective teams. Rode put up 16 saves for UVA in the losing effort and Adler put up 16 of his own and got the W. Pete LaSalla had a great game for UVA winning 18 of 27 face-offs against Jake Naso who coming into the game was the best face-off guy in the ACC in terms of win percentage. But LaSalla won the day dominating the dot and put up a goal of his own, but alas it wasn't enough to get Virginia the win. Today we sat down with actor and producer Max Adler. You might recognize him for the hugely popular TV show, Glee. Since then he is a busy working actor having appeared in several primetime TV shows and big studio feature films such as Clint Eastwood's Sully and most recently Aaron Sorkin's Trial of the Chicago 7. Max also talks to us about producing and through his connections has been able to help produce some major films such as The Tax Collector and Trial of the Chicago 7.
We start this week by teasing a very exciting Daily Fantasy Platform we will be rolling out soon, discussing the college games from this past weekend, then give snap predictions for some games next weekend. We also break down the Red Truck Beef Jerky Twitter Beef of the Week and run through this week's Clout Police. (42:44) Reigning (and last ever) MLL Rookie of the Year and former Georgetown legend Dan Bucaro comes on and, in a shocking change of pace for our show, is actually very polite to everyone. Dan discusses his really unique youth lacrosse experience on Long Island, going to Georgetown when they kinda sucked, taking them to the tournament, and scoring 8 on Yale while being really nice about it. We also talk MLL, including the Outlaws (wow, shocker) and Max Adler's willingness to (somewhat literally) die for an MLL Championship. Finally, we cover the PLL transition, where Dan immediately tanks his draft stock by revealing he is not a big social media guy. This episode is presented by Red Truck Beef Jerky. After a 91-day hiatus caused by the surge in COVID-19 cases, the PGA Tour returned last June and continued uninterrupted through the end of 2020. Through positive tests and logistical details that ranged from how to keep score to how to give volunteers coffee, the season was unlike any that came before. In this episode, host Dan Rapaport and Golf Digest editorial director Max Adler explain how the tour navigated the uncertainty of a pandemic to resurrect its schedule.
Max Adler is a powerhouse of a person. Today we dive deep into the complexities of losing your mom, becoming a dad, and the wild journey that is an acting career in Los Aneles. Most significantly, we discuss the loss of his mother when Max was in high school. While she ultimately died of a heart attack, Max's mother combatted Lyme Disease as well as muscular dystrophy. Born in Queens, New York and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, Adler is a cast member of the 2011 Golden Globe Winner for Best Television Series - Comedy (Glee) and a 2011 Screen Actors Guild Award nominee for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series (Glee) where he played the slushy throwing homophobic bully, Dave Karofsky. He is also known for his controversial, buzzed about character, Tank, in the Peabody Award winning series Switched at Birth. Adler has worked with Woody Allen in Cafe Society, Clint Eastwood in Sully, and was a lead in the film Mope, based on the shocking true story, which premiered at Sundance 2019. He was most recently seen in front of the camera in Aaron Sorkin's Trial of the Chicago 7, which Adler also co-executive produced. He has recurred on the soap opera Young & The Restless, and has guest starred in such shows as The Big Bang Theory, Bones, Criminal Minds, The Flash and many more. Today's guest is Max Adler. Max is currently a face-off specialist for the Denver Outlaws, a professional lacrosse team part of Major League Lacrosse. Max made his professional lacrosse debut in July of 2017, and since then has been arguably the best face-off specialist in the league. Last season, Max won a league best 58.3% of face-offs and was named to the Major League Lacrosse All-Star Team for the first time in his career. What makes this feat especially impressive is that Max barely made the lacrosse team his freshman year at Division II Bentley University. Lacrosse wasn't even his main sport in high school. When Max isn't training or playing lacrosse, he's a Financial Analyst at ESPN working out of their headquarters in Bristol, CT. It's probably been too long before I've brought on a Bentley alum, and so I'm especially excited to share this conversation with my fellow Bentley University Class of 2017 graduate, Max Adler. Zur Aktualität eines verdrängten Marxisten Mitschnitt einer Veranstaltung in der Reihe „Philosophische Gespräche“ vom 27. Oktober 2015 Referent: Dr. Christoph Jünke (arbeitet als Historiker an der Fern-Universität Hagen, Vorsitzender der Leo Kofler-Gesellschaft, im März 2015 erschien sein jüngstes Werk: Leo Koflers Philosophie der Praxis. Eine Einführung im Laika-Verlag). Kennen Sie Kofler?
Valentino Dixon tells host Jim Litke and Tim Dahlberg the remarkable story of how his drawings of golf holes from a prison cell set in motion a lengthy process that overturned his wrongful conviction in a 1991 shooting. Also joining the interview is Golf Digest writer Max Adler, who advocated on Dixon’s behalf. On the menu: Cocktails with two-time Masters champ Bernhard Langer.
Martin Trainer talks about winning his first PGA Tour title, his unusual route to the big leagues, and his dreams of developing a golf-centric sitcom. Also, Alex Myers, Sam Weinman, and Max Adler discuss Keith Mitchell's breakthrough win, the escalating tension between the PGA Tour and the USGA over the rules, and an impressive celebrity performance on the senior tour.
No story in the history of Golf Digest has been anything like the one of Valentino Dixon, an inmate for 27 years in an upstate New York prison who helped bide his time by drawing golf courses. Dixon's initial connection to editorial director Max Adler led to Adler examining the questionable details of his murder case, and raised enough questions to eventually lead to Dixon's release from prison this week. Adler joins Sam Weinman and Keely Levins to tell the remarkable story of how a golf writer helped win a man his freedom, and what comes next.
