This week on the Exciting & New Podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Mike right back on the podcast, since we cut him off on Star Trek, to discuss the 1984 sex comedy Bachelor Party.  That's right, we have started our Summer of Sex with this Tom Hanks masterpiece.  Before he was Gump, and before he was one of those other guys he played for Oscar bait, he was just some horned up guy trying to have a good time with his friends.  He is actually quite the jerk.  Tawny Kitaen, who's claim to "fame" was dating the dude from the lamest rock band of the 80s, and dating Jerry in Seinfeld (who didn't?) is the object of everyone's desire.  The rest of the cast is mostly a miss (Adrian Zmed?  Meh), but this movie will forever answer the question of how far a body can fall naked, land in a moon roof, and survive.  The answer might surprise you.  Enjoy the podcast!

Grease 2 was a 1982 musical romantic comedy, directed by Patricia Birch and starring Maxwell Caulfield, Michelle Pfeiffer, Adrian Zmed, and various others. It posited itself as a sequel to the hit 1978 film Grease, which itself was based on a 1971 musical of the same name. This new film followed a new cast (With a few scattered returning roles) and featured a setting taking two years after the original Grease's timeline. (Moving the action from 1959 to 1961.) Though the film maintains a modern cult following, and would prove to be a breakout film for Pfeiffer, Zmed, and actor Christopher MacDonald, it received negative reviews upon release and performed tepidly at the box office. On a new episode of Hell Is A Musical, Lilz and Scott sit down with return guest David Allen Prescott for a screening of Grease 2. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Tom Moore, Celebrated Theatre, Television And Film Director, Author, “Grease: Tell Me More, Tell Me More” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Tom Moore, is a celebrated theatre, television and film director who is in large part responsible for one of the greatest Broadway shows in history – “Grease”.   He was the director of the original Broadway production, which ran for 8 years, from February 14, 1972 to April 13, 1980, making it the longest-running Broadway show at the time.  And of course, the show inspired the blockbuster movie starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta – who actually appeared as “Doody” in one of the national tours.   This year, to commemorate the show's 50th anniversary, a very special book has been released, edited by our guest, along with one of the show's producers, Ken Waissman, and Adrienne Barbeau, who was the original “Rizzo”, and who appeared on our show last year.  The book is entitled, “Grease: Tell Me More, Tell Me More: Stories From the Broadway Phenomenon That Started It All”.   It's a fascinating and entertaining collection of reminiscences and stories, memorable moments, hilarious mishaps, and sentimental anecdotes, giving us the inside scoop about the show, told by the creative minds that made it happen, including stars like Barry Bostwick, John Travolta, Adrienne Barbeau, Treat Williams, Marilu Henner, Peter Gallagher, Adrian Zmed and many others who appeared on stage and who worked behind the scenes.  The book is a must-read, not only for fans of the show, but for every theatre lover, because we get to share the collaborative experience of so many artists working on a labour of love, which became a momentous and beloved piece of music theatre history.   In addition to his monumental involvement in “Grease”, which earned him a Tony nomination for Best Director, our guest directed many other Broadway shows, including the nostalgic World War 2 musical, “Over Here”, starring 2 of the Andrews Sisters, “Once in a Lifetime”, “The Octette Bridge Club”, and “Moon Over Buffalo”, starring the one and only Carol Burnett.   He received a second Tony nomination for Best Director, for “Night, Mother”, and he also directed the movie, starring Sissy Spacek and Anne Bancroft.   If that weren't enough, he's a highly respected three time Emmy-nominated television director, who's directed many TV shows including “ER”, “Mad About You”, “LA Law”, “Gilmore Girls” and dozens more. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ https://www.facebook.com/tom.moore.33449138 #TomMoore   #Grease   #harveybrownstoneinterviews

It may be hard for some of us to believe, but this past Valentine's Day – Feb 14, 2022 – marked the 50th Anniversary of the New York opening of the musical GREASE, at the Eden Theater on 2nd Avenue. And next week, June 7, will mark the 50th Anniversary of its official move to Broadway.  My guests this week are that Grease's original producer, Ken Waissman, and original director, Tom Moore, who along with Adrienne Barbeau (the original “Rizzo”) are the editors of the new book : Grease – Tell Me More, Tell Me More – Stories From The Broadway Phenomenon That Started It All. Ken Waisman is a Tony Award winning producer who made his Broadway debut with the play And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little. In addition to Grease he went on to produce Over Here! starring the Andrews Sisters, and the long running plays Agnes Of God, and Torch Song Trilogy. Tom Moore is a leading theater, film and television director whose work on Broadway includes his debut with Grease, Over Here!, Moon Over Buffalo starring Carol Burnett, and Night Mother. Their new book is made up of a the personal, behind-the-scenes memories of the show's creative and production teams, as well as scores of cast members from Grease's original cast, five national tours, and record breaking eight-year run on Broadway. In this episode you will hear about how Ken discovered the show in a ramshackle community theater production in Chicago; why Ken chose Tom to direct the show instead of Michael Bennett; how Tom almost turned the show down; and how together they discovered and cast more future stars than probably any other musical in history! Grease alumni include Adrianne Barbeau, Barry Bostwick, Jeff Conaway, Carole Demas, Greg Evigan, Peter Gallagher, Richard Gere, Marilu Henner, Judy Kaye, Rex Smith, Patrick Swayze, John Travolta, Treat Williams, and Adrian Zmed. As well as the future Broadway directors Walter Bobbie, Scott Ellis, and Jerry Zaks. Has any other show produced that many stars?  Even if Grease is not your favorite show, I feel certain that you will be fascinated by their stories of how the show came together, as well as the casting stories of John Travolta, Patrick Swayze and Richard Gere. Broadway Nation is written and produced by me, David Armstrong. The idea for the podcast came when they realized just how much they talk – a lot – when watching films from their favorite cinematic era. Their wedding theme was “a light nod to the ‘80s,” so there's that, too. Both hail from the Midwest but have called Los Angeles home for several years now. Anna is a writer who received her B.A. in Film/Video from Columbia College Chicago and M.A. in Film Studies from Chapman University. Her dark comedy short She Had It Coming was an Official Selection of 25 film festivals with several awards won for it among them. Derek is an attorney who also likes movies. You Might Know Her From Euphoria, The Flight Attendant, Coco, Clockwatchers, Waiting, Meet the Fockers, Sister Act 2, Beakman's World, Bombshell, Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, The Brady Bunch Movie, and the Legally Blonde films. Alanna gave us all the goods on joining season two of The Flight Attendant, showing up to her Euphoria audition with a glass of wine, and her big musical number “La Llorona” in Coco. We also got to talk about two personal favorites: her portrayal of Doreen, Marcia's lesbian BFF, in The Brady Bunch Movie (and the similarities between Doreen and Tai in Clueless), plus the indie classic, Clockwatchers, opposite an incredible ensemble of newly minted movie stars who may or may not have been a bit…cliquey. Les, Kurt, and Jason have lots to share as Les and Jason ran into each other last night! But more importantly, Les saw the one and only Eric Roberts outside of his chiropractors office, AND Les was on stage in Blac Chyna's clubhouse. Les may have been too afraid to ask Eric Roberts to be on this podcast because of his “resting I will f** you up face,” but he just might possibly have discovered that they live in the same neighborhood! After Kurt manages to turn his Blac Chyna news about Tyga and Trans women into a (perfect) excuse to reference the 80's band Men Without Hats (repeatedly), the guys turn their attention this week's Lifetime movie, “College Professor Obsession.” The movie is part College Admissions Scandal and part Eyes Wide Shut (or so Les thinks, Kurt disagrees), but Jason can't get past the gaping plot hole that the death that happened on this campus just one week earlier would have been a rather big story to family living just 30 miles away sending their daughter to the same school. The old adage, “don't focus on plot, just focus on discussing Adrian Zmed” has never been more true as the movie serves up classic Lifetime gaslighting from a cult leader with a potbelly and a flat ass and a couple of young women pretty much asking to be pushed off a ledge. Nobody's getting a good education at this school, but they'll get help from Where There's a Will, There's an A.   Facebook : alifetimeofhallmark Instagram : lifetimeofhallmarkpodcast Theme song generously donated by purple-planet.com

There's gotta be more to life than just makin out.  We watched Grease 2 with the hilarious Drew Droege and we want more than the boy next door - we want hell on wheels!  It’s more than just a gender swapped rehash of Grease - it gave the world one miss Michelle Marie Pfeiffer. The amount of gorgeousness when Stephanie Zinoni (Pfeiffer) and Michael Carrington (Maxwell Caulfield) share the screen can power a small town. The new crop of T-Birds fronted by Adrian Zmed are WAY cute and the Pink Ladies are serving Lewks- not the least of which is Lorna Luft giving full drag queen. This movie is full on bananas, with more grown adults playing teens, decidedly un-50’s music and the flimsiest secret identity since Clark Kent’s horn-rimmed glasses.  We still think “Cool Rider” could have been a hit on the radio. www.theeverlybrothersexperience.com Since 2016, brothers Zachary and Dylan Zmed along with their partner and drummer Burleigh Drummond, have celebrated the pivotal music and history of The Everly Brothers legacy with enthusiastic crowds all across the US and over seas in prestigious venues. They say, “ The music of the 50's and 60's are nostalgic for us, our parents raised us all on it, and we feel that the Everly's contribution is greatly overlooked, especially by younger generations. Our aim is not to impersonate but to do our best in honoring the aesthetics of their iconic sound and in honoring the important role they played in pioneering the rock n' roll movement, all while having a little fun sharing our own personal story,” and they do just that. With a father, (Adrian Zmed) as a traveling singer/dancer/actor (Grease 2, Bachelor Party, T.J. Hooker), and a mother (Barbara) as a second grade teacher in a suburb of Los Angeles, the Zmed Brothers continuously strive to pay homage to their personal roots by always infusing an instinctual blend of entertainment (a la Smothers Brothers) and contextual education in their performance. The Everly brothers career lasted over half a century, they recorded 21 studio albums, sold more than 60 million records world wide, had over 30 billboard top -100 singles, which still to this day is the record for most billboard charting hits of any sibling rock duo ever, they received numerous accolades in their later career, and influenced countless legendary artist that came after them including The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Bee Gees, Neil Young..and the list goes on. THE ZMED BROTHERS are absolutely thrilled to be able to contribute to a cause that supports the recognition and preservation of the intimate and singular origins of America's greatest Rock n' Roll singing sibling duo. The 5 piece band consists of drums (Burleigh Drummond), electric guitar (rotating members), bass (rotating members), and the two singing brothers (Zachary and Dylan Zmed) up front with the signature Everly acoustic guitars.

Nearly done with September Sequels! Tonight we tackle our first sequel musical and man, we gotta say, Grease 2 is NOT the word.  From 1982, Grease 2 stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Rex Manning and some D list T-Birds and Pink Ladies.  Grease 2 has all the high school musical shenanigans - bowling alley dance parties, bad sexual euphemisms, bunker seductions that go bust, a talent show that gets side tracked by a sad sack drama queen and don't forget the world's worst rip off of Danny Zuko we've ever seen.  Sorry, we're being harsh.  Grease 2 provides a ton of nostalgia and it's a great bad movie that we'll cherish till our dying day.  We'll review all the good bad songs, let Sweetie do a timed 1 minute rant about Adrian Zmed, and talk about who are favorite season is from the Calendar Girls musical number.  Cool rider baby. Cool rider.

The Glengarry Glen Ross Minute

The sound of sweet oblivion opens up the episode and leads to Southern Gentleman speak and a shout out to Jerry Lewis. Matt thinks this minute is all about predator versus prey. Moss gets himself all worked up about stealing the leads, but George can only muster confusion. Bill pot-shames Rasheed Wallace. Alan Arkin offers up another great lesson in acting with one's chin while Ed Harris shows us Moss' soft-ish side. What did Jerry Graff say to make Moss concoct the heist? Bill shares the list of things someone should do to Mitch and Murray, if he were that kind of guy. Matt takes James Foley to task for some shoddy blocking and breaks out the "Bowl Rant." For some reason, Adrian Zmed keeps being discussed on this podcast. A new jingle is introduced and the fellas wonder if a Hanks can be done.
