Exploring Company Director Rights In this episode, Associate Lawyer Liam McColl takes a deep dive into one of the most fundamental, yet often misunderstood, rights in corporate governance: a Director's right to access company information.Liam unpacks why these rights are so critical to the proper functioning of a company, and how the law is designed to protect Directors and officeholders in fulfilling their duties. From financial records to internal documents, he explains what Directors are legally entitled to access and why denying that access can quickly escalate into serious legal consequences. He also walks through what happens when access is refused, including the court process involved in enforcing a Director's rights, and the practical realities businesses should be aware of when disputes arise. Importantly, Liam outlines how Directors can appoint trusted agents, such as lawyers or accountants, to review company records on their behalf, and what that process looks like in practice.Whether you're a Director, business owner, or part of a leadership team, this episode offers valuable insight into the legal frameworks that underpin transparency, accountability, and good governance in Australian businesses. This is a complex and highly important area of law. If you have any questions about your rights or the rights of Directors to access company information, reach out to Liam and the team at Aintree Group Legal or visit aintreelegal.com.au.

In this episode of the Edufuturists podcast, we talk to Kathryn McColl and Brogan Pierce from Hark about their Listen Up Report, which uncovers why confidence drops during key school transitions, who's most affected, and what educators and employers can do to close the gap. Nearly 1 in 3 young people in the UK lack confidence - a hidden barrier to learning, career opportunities, and life chances. This isn't just about shyness. It's about a systemic issue that shapes learning, limits life chances, and affects the future workforce. Together, we explore The “Unheard Third” - who they are, and why they're being overlooked, as well as why confidence often plummets during school transitions. We dive into how low confidence keeps young people from speaking up, joining in, or taking opportunities and what schools, employers, and communities can do to create emotionally safe, empowering spaces. Kathryn and Brogan share stories from the report, unpack the role of gender, background, and region in shaping confidence, and show how practical interventions, from classroom culture to early employer engagement, can change the game. This is a values-driven, action-focused conversation for educators, school leaders, businesses, and anyone committed to building a more inclusive future for young people. When British foreign correspondent Richard McColl purchased, on a whim, a ruined colonial building in the rural Colombian town of Mompós, he imagined a lifestyle of relaxation, with idle afternoons reading the works of Gabriel García Márquez, writing glib observations and enjoying the hypnotic momentum of a Caribbean tropical narrative, swaying in a hammock and the promise of an ice cold beer never far away. He was mistaken. His first restoration yields a hostel, which later becomes a hotel and then spirals into further projects including the restoration of three more colonial houses, experiencing challenges that make him reconsider his upbringing, education and outlook on how he fits into his adopted homeland. With two hotels in Mompós, he experiences the joy of new friendships and a despair over the predictability of guests. With a journalist's eye for a story, McColl navigates the history of Mompós and how its society is a microcosm of today's Colombia, with its feudal system still very much in place, inherent prejudices, stigma surrounding the politics, the people and the past, all coming to the fore. When Luther's daughter, Jane Lockwood, was just 5 years old, she was diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of muscular dystrophy. Luther and his family resolved to do something about it. During the two decades since, they founded the McColl-Lockwood Laboratory and dedicated enormous resources to creating more effective treatments for the disease to help not only Jane, but thousands of others like her. In this episode, Luther and Jane share their experience. Jane describes what it's been like to live with the disease – and how it hasn't stopped her from achieving her dream of enrolling in law school. Meanwhile, Luther gives insight to their global search for the best minds researching muscular dystrophy, and how that may be leading to new and effective treatments. We're joined in this conversation by Frank's friend Larry Powell. Larry has been an inspiration for and informal advisor to our podcast for a long time. He suggested that we feature Luther and Jane's story, and we liked the idea so much we asked him to be a part of it. Beth McColl (writer) returns to the program to discuss how she got blocked by one of Twitter's renowned weirdos, author Joyce Carol Oates, but for not really doing anything weird or offensive. She just faved a partly disparaging tweet reply! That's it! Sad that she has to miss out on disgusting keyboards and deranged foot pics, but here we are. After John messes up the intro, we get into a great episode as we discuss Jackson Galaxy, Cat Bin Lady, John's upcoming trip to London, we finally introduce the $100 Club perks for 2024, and Beth tells us about being THAT girl at a wedding. Plus, Beth falls in love with the Bass Pro Shops Pyramid and the recent incident there, Stefan gets us deep into some bog talk, and we discuss Jo Koy throwing his writers under the bus at the Golden Globes. If you want to pull us out from under the bus, you can head on over to patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month. Last week, Robin Hatch joined us for a Blocked Bag episode, and this week, BPD&D Episode 4 comes out, with our good friends from YKS. Plus, as we announced on the show, a slew of new $100 Club perks for our most treasured of Tiers, which as always, will come with ad-free episodes, deep merch discounts, and a whole lot more.
