This week's guest on Video Mojo shares his inspiring journey of rebuilding his life and business after the devastation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. After he was forced to close his coffee business, he started a video editing company from scratch and grew it to a staff of six within a year, offering valuable insights into entrepreneurship and success on YouTube. Ukrainian entrepreneur Anton Kosheliev exemplifies the importance of persevering in business, helping others, and creating valuable, educational content to achieve success on YouTube. He does all this despite facing the challenges of living in a war zone. Anton's courage and just-do-it attitude are an inspiration for those of us living in much less challenging circumstances. There's much that we can learn from him, including his insights about what works on YouTube.
Marketing AI Institute's Chief Content Officer, Mike Kaput and Video Mojo host Jon Leland explain why marketers who do not embrace and adapt to AI are rapidly being left behind. They also recommend the best apps to get started with copywriting, image generation, and concept video production. Key insights include strategies and approaches for marketing executives and agencies on how to use AI marketing tools most effectively. Kaput and Leland explain how to use AI as a creative collaborator in order to generate content and revolutionize creativity. The most important takeaway is that AI tools should only be used as an additive component to your established marketing strategies, not a replacement. These tools can dramatically enhance and empower your strategic positioning, but more content for the sake of more content won't help anyone and can turn off your prospects. ⏰ TIMESTAMPS ⏰
In the face of all of AI's dangers, my guest Frank Prendergast and I discuss the opportunities to use AI for creative fun and as a marketing enhancer. But we don't put our heads in the sand either. We confront AI's limitations, including the fact that AI cannot replace the human component of creativity, nor can it build authentic trust with an audience. Most importantly, we agree that getting to know AI—yes, through playful experimentation—is a crucial skill to develop in today's rapidly changing world.

Powerful business advice on how to use ChatGPT & AI to grow your business and improve your marketing from marketing strategist and author, David Boyle, in conversation with media pioneer and Video Mojo host, Jon Leland. David is Director at Audience Strategies, an agency that helps brands use a deep understanding of their audiences to drive growth, and he is also co-author of the PROMPT books, which are practical guides to business growth using ChatGPT. In this interview: - David emphasizes that AI, specifically AI like ChatGPT, is a powerful tool that can amplify one's existing abilities, especially in creative domains like writing, image creation, and potentially music and video in the future. - He strongly advises against blindly accepting AI's output as final. Instead, AI's output should be seen as a first draft or a recommendation that needs to be fact-checked, enhanced, and owned by the user. - David perceives AI as a useful thought partner and idea generator. This is particularly true in understanding audience needs, wants, and brainstorming innovative ways to meet those needs. - David suggests that the usefulness of AI isn't strictly confined to specific industries. The fundamentals of understanding underlying audience needs and using AI to innovate based on those needs can be applied across industries. - He recommends starting with ChatGPT as it's ready for mass adoption and is being constantly improved. Once the basics are mastered, he suggests exploring other models like Claude from Anthropic and other tools like Magai for more advanced/specific needs. - He acknowledges the ethical dilemmas associated with using AI, such as bad actors misusing AI, people making misguided decisions based on AI recommendations, and potential future risks when AI can control real-world systems. He also mentions the moral dilemma of AI models benefiting from copyrighted material without attributing value to the original creators. - David recommends using the text-based API of AI models as a starting point for understanding the capabilities and limitations of AI. From there, one can expand to other domains like images, videos, and music. - He advises individuals to start engaging with AI by speaking into the ChatGPT app and asking it to organize and make recommendations based on their thoughts. He describes this as a simple way to get started with AI. - David believes that AI is transformative to work and that those who choose not to use AI risk getting left behind. He emphasizes that AI users are likely to be more effective in their work and happier overall. - Lastly, David is passionate about helping people use AI more effectively. He offers assistance to anyone struggling with AI and is even willing to provide his books for free to those who cannot afford them. In this video, my Video Mojo guest is Kevon Cheung, a successful entrepreneur, community builder, and author of "Find Joy in Chaos: How to Build Your Twitter Presence so Connections and Opportunities Come Find You." Our conversation revolves around the importance of building in public, transparency, and community. Kevon shares his journey as a creator and his previous experience running a SaaS company, which despite being funded, did not achieve the growth he desired. This led him to walk away from the company around the same time, he was about to become a father. He realized he wanted to make a dramatic pivot and recognized the importance of building a personal brand and a reputation that could compound over time. This led Kevon to investigate and develop his thoughtful approach to building a personal brand and writing online. He offers valuable lessons learned from these entrepreneurial experiences. At the core of his endeavors over the last two and a half years is the concept of "building in public" where he emphasizes that the number of followers or the size of an email list does not fully define success. Instead, he believes that the value one provides and the authenticity one maintains are more critical. Throughout the video, we both highlight the importance of patience, authenticity, and providing value in social media marketing. We discuss how these elements can lead to building a thriving and authentic community. This entire conversation underscores the importance of being value-driven in today's digital landscape. This is one of my favorite interviews I've ever done because successful TikTok video creator, Anna Pryz illuminates why TikTok is a totally NEW medium, unlike YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or any other social media network. While there's no doubt that on TikTok, you have the ability to grow a following faster than on any other social network, what's even more important is the way that Anna's extremely human brand of humor underscores the way that TikTok favors content that is fun, vulnerable, and authentic. What Anna shares is eye-opening as she discusses in detail what it takes to succeed on TikTok. So much so that it inspired me to go all-in on my commitment to post to TikTok each and every day. Listen and learn why posting daily is not just a “nice to have” but a requirement of the TikTok algorithm. And, scroll down in this description for the link to the online accountability community that Jon created to keep himself on track while supporting others to do the same. *No BS.* There's ONE thing that can make or break a podcast or video show, and I'm still learning after all these years! :-) This episode of Video Mojo is much more than just an interview. It's practically an entire workshop. I'm "working in public" and tapping into the impressive showrunner expertise of Jay Acunzo. In this conversation, Jay not only provides immensely valuable realtime coaching regarding the essential requirement for a "pithy, powerful premise" and illuminates his "4 Challenges of the Showrunner's Circle;" but he also explains why participation is better than promotion. Like everything else, video production ain't what it used to be. In the age of COVID, more and more video producers and podcasters are using Zoom; but what if you want better quality that's free of Internet bandwidth issues and more control when you are editing? For example, what if you could have high-quality, locally-recorded, distinct audio and video tracks automatically uploaded from each participant's computer to a cloud dashboard? Would you like the ability to edit with creative freedom that is not limited by what is recorded by Zoom or other streaming software? I also see the benefits of having this high-quality video source material available for the production of shorter videos for social media. That's why I produced this video using http://riverside.fm and interviewed the Chief Marketing/Growth exec of Riverside, Abel Grünfeld about Riverside's innovative remote video production platform that locally records individual video tracks of virtual recording sessions. Looking for the biggest possible “bang” for your social media, video marketing time & money? One word: TikTok! It’s not just for kids. With the pandemic, more and more businesses are finding that—not only are adults spending time on TikTok—it has distinct advantages for business marketing. Who knew? In this special edition, “mini-webinar” episode of Video Mojo, video below, I spell out four solid reasons why TikTok is heads and shoulders above other social media marketing platforms. (And the fact that TikTok is “all video, all the time” is not even one of them.) Despite the fact that many marketers don’t take it seriously, in many ways, TikTok represents the future of social media communications and video marketing in particular. And, it’s also a strategic fact that you can gain more visibility on TikTok faster, in an organic way, than on any other social media platform. The value for your future in marketing and the visibility opportunity are just TWO of the reasons that TikTok is an important business marketing opportunity. Don’t miss this video: It might be some of the most valuable and actionable social media marketing insights that you will hear this year. When I started my video blog, I didn't know I would be inventing a combination of live streaming event, social media video series, and podcast that I now call a WebShow™. In this special edition of Video Mojo that I call "The WebShow-WebShow," I pull back the curtain of what it takes to create what I believe is the ultimate form of content marketing, especially if you leverage the content assets that are created along the way. I detail "what is a WebShow?" and I also describe the specific software and hardware that I use to produce it. I also include a section on "Program Development" that covers the creative considerations necessary to produce a good show. I hope this is useful to you. Yes? It has been said that "what's in the way is the way." For this reason, telling your most difficult and vulnerable stories can have healing and engaging effects beyond anything you might imagine. In this episode of Video Mojo, I got to interview master coach & author, Andrea J. Lee and we had an intimate conversation about authenticity and vulnerability, including real life examples of what can happen when you tell the stories that NEED to be told. One example of this phenomenon is a 2-minute video that Andrea did for UpWorthy that got over 2 million views... without trying! If you are interested in going deeper with your storytelling in order to make a more human connection with your audiences, don't miss this! I admit it. I'm proud of the quality of content that's coming out weekly via my Video Mojo WebShow™. It's now much more than a video blog & podcast: It's a fully-produced live, weekly webcast & formatted 1/2-hour program with awesome guests. This week's episode, recorded live last Friday, powerfully illuminates why storytelling is so much more than a "buzzword du jour." If you understand the power of story, you can create a more engaging and vibrant social media and video presence. To do that, you have to go beyond storytelling as a formula. Done well, story can open doors to whole other levels of engagement. And, it can help you find your way through the "uncharted times" that we are all living through, while revealing a path to more meaningful media. If you're ready to use story as a wayfinding tool (or at least ready to discover what that means), don't miss this third "Collaborative Conversation" between myself and storytelling expert, Michael Kass. There's so much more to authentic social media and video than selling and persuading. A truly meaningful presence is more about engagement and relationship building. In order to deepen that experience, we touch a shared humanity that is very personal. As Julia McNeal illuminates in this episode of Video Mojo, that's what's required if you want to be truly authentic; and, the really GOOD NEWS is that along with this deeper level of engagement comes a recognition of a shared humanity that is a service to everyone you touch. Don't miss this episode. As always, in addition this "Collaborative Conversation" (interview), Video Mojo also includes a quick Jon Leland commentary called "Tee It Up" (this week an overview of how webshows like ours build on the shoulders of podcasting) and "Luscious Links" resource recommendations (this week two great sources for license-free images you can use without fee or credit, if you so choose). Our mission is to help you have a more engaging social media presence and a more vibrant video presence. Some call this “content marketing.” Others like to think there’s a silver bullet in “brand storytelling.” In this week’s edition of Video Mojo LIVE!, digital marketing strategist, Jon Leland of ComBridges - https://www.combridges.com - reveals this program’s new 4-part format and interviews master storytelling coach and the author of “Narrative Coaching,” Dr. David Drake and they explore how authentic storytelling is really a conversation, not a one-way communication, like most marketing. Other insights include Jon’s “Tee It Up” opening commentary on “There Is No Finish Line” and a “Luscious Links” movie review of the Netflix documentary, “The Social Dilemma.” Time markers: * Tee It Up - 2:04 * Collaborative Conversation - 4:24 * Community Campfire - 12:49 * Luscious Links - 21:54 Here are the resource links from this episode: * Dr. David Drake: https://www.themomentinstitute.com/ * “So Good They Can’t Ignore You: Why Skills Trump Passion in the Quest for Work You Love” by Cal Newport - https://www.amazon.com/Good-They-Cant-Ignore-You/dp/0349415862 LUSCIOUS LINKS * The Social Dilemma (Netflix Documentary) https://www.thesocialdilemma.com/ 3 PILLARS OF A VIBRANT VIDEO PRESENCE Pillar 1: Humanity - https://youtu.be/NGO1m_MFKB4 Pillar 2: Technology - https://youtu.be/g__BRLf0BKc Pillar 3: Story - TO COME! Video Mojo continues as an exciting playful exploration of the bleeding edge of video. Our mission is to help you create a more engaging social media presence and to be your source for insights about how to create a more vibrant video presence. If you want to know more about what I'm up to, last week's episode was the transition from Video Mojo, the video blog, to Video Mojo LIVE, the webcast show (stay tuned and I will reveal the whole format). I hope you all are staying safe and well in these CRAZY times... Meanwhile, I'm really pleased to share what I think is our most practical Video Mojo episode ever! Michael Kass and I did a quick 17-minute overview of the Technology Tools necessary for producing your own social video posts, whether via Zoom, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or whatever. This is the second in a series of Video Mojo episodes on how to create a Vibrant Video Presence. Each of these 3 special episodes is a collaborative conversation with special guest, master of storytelling, coach, & consultant, Michael Kass. I highly recommend this video clip for anyone who may feel challenged by video technologies (and who isn't?) You could think of it as a welcoming "video helping hand." :-) About Video Mojo Video Mojo is a video blog and podcast hosted by award-winning media innovator, Jon Leland of http://combridges.com. In the age of coronavirus, Zoom Meetings have become an essential way for groups to connect; but making these virtual gatherings powerful and productive is not so easy. Many people are still learning what it takes to be present without causing distractions. In other words, for groups larger than a half dozen, technical facilitation is required. In fact, having a dedicated technical support person to guide everyone in how to participate without detracting from the group's energy can make a huge difference. Coronavirus has truly changed everything. We are all in this together. In these circumstances, online video software provider, Loom said, "Inaction Felt Wrong." Or as Chris Cuomo said recently on CNN, "sitting on the sidelines" during this time of crisis is "not an option." This episode of Video Mojo shines a spotlight on three online communication software companies who are examples, among many others, of doing what they can, especially in support of educators who are often learning to teach online, using video, for the first time. Now, more than ever, it's essential to do what works. Why would you want to do anything else!? This episode of Video Mojo explains why email works so well in today's digital marketing mix. This video will also help you avoid a couple of fundamental yet common mistakes: 1. Don't be distracted by formulaic solutions like 'best practices" or "quick tips" that some huckster says is a "silver bullet." 2. Don't be fooled by "shiny objects" like the latest and greatest social media networks (or Facebook Ads) with the result that you overlook the power of email to deliver the kind of consistent value that truly connects you with the people (real human beings) that are most important to you. If making meaningful and authentic connections that lead to sustainable, long-term relationships matters to you, then please check out this episode and let me know what you think. Is there such a thing as a "North Star" guidance system for your digital marketing? You bet there is. And, it's not a tip, trick or "recipe for success." It's WAY more valuable than that. For me, connecting with what I call "the real Internet" is "the one in front of all the zeros." It's that important because it gives everything else meaning. Social media networks are a whole new kind of communication opportunity; but too many people and organizations are either confused, over-whelmed or just "don't get it." In only four minutes, this episode of Video Mojo describes and illustrates three types of social media posts that have no advertising expense required. Each type of post is used by my company, https://combridges.com, in order to help our clients and ourselves. By using all three types of posts, we more present on social media; and, we "lead with value" to build authentic, sustainable long-term relationships.
