After a little festive break, we're back with a special guest. We were joined by the actor and director Leon Wadham - you know, from The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power - to talk about something he hasn't see for ages: 1999's strangely topical black comedy, ELECTION.Good episode? Tread Merrily 2024 continues with an episode of ALF known as "ALF's Special Christmas" — although it will be referred to as “ALF'S Christmas Special”. When the Tanners take the opportunity to spend Christmas at a cabin in the woods, ALF grumbles about the lack of indoor plumbing and electricity. His antagonism gets so bad, Willie sends him outside for a few hours. ALF ends up driving into town with the cabin's owner, who also volunteers as Santa at the local hospital. There, ALF learns the "true" meaning of Christmas as guest stars Cleavon Little and Carl Franklin class up the joint. Will the Tanners find ALF before he's mistaken for a toy? Also: a wild Molly Hagan appears! Erik and Justin end up watching almost two hours of ALF thanks to a typo. "ALF's Special Christmas" proves to be Seasonal Affective Disorder in TV form and it inspires a lot of dark comedy. Justin is convinced TV in the late 1980s was all in soft focus. The ALF impressions are abundant, but there's nary a Max Wright impression to be heard. Justin realizes the problem with Gordon Shumway answering to "ALF." Erik's qualitative objection to Ben Stiller comes to light. Unfunniness gets examined. The pair debate whether or not Edgar Wright should make Don't and an actor brings a new spin to the tired Lamaze joke.

"Herman's Head" was a sitcom that aired on the Fox network from 1991-1994. The show had unique concept, revolving around the inner thoughts and emotions of its protagonist, Herman Brooks (William Ragsdale), but here those thoughts and emotions were portrayed by 4 different characters that resided inside Herman's mind. Throughout its run, Herman navigated through various romantic relationships, friendships, and workplace scenarios, with his internal voices often providing conflicting advice and commentary. If you hear a couple familiar voices when Herman is at the office it's because two of his co-workers are played by long running Simpsons voice actors, Yeardley Smith (Lisa Simpson) & Hank Azaria (Moe, Apu, Chief Wiggum, etc). Despite its innovative concept and initial critical acclaim, "Herman's Head" faced challenges with inconsistent scheduling and changes in time slots, which led to fluctuations in viewership. After three seasons and 72 episodes, the show was ultimately canceled in April 1994. Will the S1E1 guys enjoy watching this somewhat forgotten '90s classic? Listen as they deep dive the show's pilot episode and find out. Molly Hagan is a legend. She has been in the entertainment industry for years and has participated in some beautiful projects. She has starred in Jane The Virgin, Truth Be Told, iZombie, How to Get Away with Murder, and Unfabulous, just to name a few. However, we all now watch her as the ultimate matriarch in The CW's Walker as Abeline Walker. Abeline is confident, wise, calm, intelligent, strong, and resilient. She is a mother never willing to give up on her family or herself. I was excited to speak to Hagan because she has made a mark in this industry. Hagan popped onto the screen with a big smile. Before I hit record, we talked and told some stories -- bonding. She is so easy to talk to, and while she doesn't give herself enough credit for how amazing she is, it was my honor to tell her. We touch on her immense career and lead into Walker (hoping to get renewed). While we wait for an announcement, Molly and I began to break down some of our favorite scenes from the show. Hagan said she is a fan of the show herself, and we often found ourselves talking about the storyline or how talented the cast and crew are. I would circle back to Hagan, who was always the first to give credit where credit was due. We spoke about what it's like having Jared Padalecki (who plays her son, Walker) as a fellow actor but also her boss, what type of trouble the guys get into when they are together on set, and heard some good stories of what goes on when they aren't filming. We got another insight into the group chat and joked around a lot. I have immense respect for Hagan. She makes you feel good and is one of the nicest people who deserve to be where she is... legendary status. Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Shamindri De Sayrah Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Texas Ranger Cordell Walker kicks posterior -- usually in slo-mo. Because of his martial-arts skills, he has a competitive edge against the bad guys. With the help of retired ranger C.D. Parker, partner James Trivette and A.D.A. Alex Cahill, Walker ruthlessly fights for justice. **Walker is currently airing on The CW and is available to stream on The CW app the next day for free. This is a conversation with Morgan Govin and Molly Hagan. This is how Morgan introduces herself on her website: "I spent five years addicted to heroin and four years incarcerated as a direct result of my addiction. I lost my mom and four close friends to overdose. I found a system of injustice within the US justice system. Now, I work to change the systems that harmed us. I strive for safer, healthier communities." Morgan is also JSTOR Daily's engagement editor for the American Prison Newspapers collection. Molly is a writer, journalist and photographer whose piece "The Meaning of Time in The Hour Glass" kickstarted this conversation. We also talked about Morgan's experience, about the US' brutal carceral system, and the meaning of time in prison. We also talked about logics of scarcity and what we lose, wherever we live, when incarcerated people are rendered invisible. ---- Mentions and Book Recommendations: Episode with Shareah Taleghani on Syrian Prison Literature and the Poetics of Human Rights Episode with Kate Zen on Basebuilding, Sex Workers' Rights and Mutual Aid Molly: A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities That Arise in Disaster by Rebecca Solnit The Dead Are Arising: the Life of Malcolm X by Les Payne and Tamara Payne Solitary: A Biography by Albert Woodfox Morgan: Corrections in Ink: A Memoir by Keri Blakinger Until We Reckon: Violence, Mass Incarceration, and a Road to Repair by Danielle Sered You're Wrong About podcast ---- You can support The Fire These Times on patreon.com/firethesetimes with a monthly or yearly donation and get a lot of perks including early access, exclusive videos, monthly hangouts, access to the book club, merch and more. In the words of Terry Ray:"I can't remember not wanting to be an actor. To be fair, I can barely remember having hair, but still. It's a passion I've fought hard to nurture and a dream I've never given up on, even when it defied all odds and all logic... and believe me, it usually did... Then one day I decided to quit waiting for the phone to ring for that one line as the theater manager on 7th HEAVEN (of course I used an example that I booked) and create my own opportunities by adding the hyphenates writer-producer to the acting thang. I teamed with Larry LaFond and we amazingly hit a home run our first time at bat (look at me with the sports metaphors) with the incredibly successful little short film GAYDAR, which was in over 120 film festivals, won a ton of awards and was recently named by California Independent Film Festival as one of the 20 Best Comedy Short Films of all time. Larry and I also made a short film called THE COST OF LIVING, a way too timely comedy about life after global co-starring Jim J. Bullock, Molly Hagan & Greg Mullavey. (More film festivals and awards).I'm the creator, writer and star of HERE TV's first original sitcom FROM HERE ON OUT (available on Amazon Prime) with Juliet Mills as well as the co-creator-writer-producer-star (sharing that "co" with Wendy Michaels) of MY SISTER IS SO GAY (Amazon Prime) with Loni Anderson as my mother. I got to co-star in 5 seasons of Michael Vaccaro's star-studded comedy CHILD OF THE 70s. I wrote and co-created the game show MODD COUPLES now playing on Hulu, I co-wrote the 2017 TV movie LOVE UNPLUGGED. My new show, TV THERAPY features a different classic TV character (played once again by the original actor) in a therapy session today (with me as the doctor) with all the issue they would currently have... Since 2016 I've been starring in ELECTRICITY (my debut as a playwright)....Mel England as my co-star we became the longest running play in Palm Springs, performing in two venues at the same time: as an immersive theater experience inside a real Palm Springs hotel room and also on stage as Oscar's Bar & Cabaret Theater and then moving to The Desert Rose Playhouse as our final venue and we prepare for an Off-Broadway run. I'm the first instructor at the famed Actor's Lab's new Palm Springs branch of their acting school. Maybe my master plan is starting to work"! -Terry Ray Epilogue: Terry's latest play is THE LINCOLN DEBATE which explores the possibility that Lincoln was actually gay. It premiered in Palm Springs in December 2022 and will be returning in the Spring of 2023 at The Bent Theatre- Palm Spring's newest and only gay theatre. We're telling stories. A woman she loved but pitied for having been “stuck” mothering 7 children. Molly Hagan has amassed an extensive resume as an actor over the past 35 years. Molly recurs on Jane the Virgin, iZombie, the upcoming Apple TV Are you Sleeping with Octavia Spencer, and a new Netflix series No Good Nick, premiering in spring 2019. Molly Hagan has been making a splash in film since Some Kind of Wonderful. But you also know her from Ringmaster, Election and Sully. And some of her favorite television gigs include: The Nutt House, Herman's Head, and Unfabulous. The Interactive movie The Garage Sale marked Molly’s debut as a writer/producer. Molly can be found at www.mollyhagan.com or on Twitter @mollyhagan, struggling with photography on Instagram @molly7hagan, and completely MIA @TheMollyHagan on Facebook. If it's not 1 Thing, explores the topic of 'mother' from every angle imaginable and some you have not thought of. Each week, hosts Katie Mitchell and Lupe Padilla Mitchell share a new story and have great conversations with the writers, many of whom are in fact not writers by trade. We have excerpts from best selling novels, memoirs, poetry award winners, songwriters, stay at home moms, insurance brokers, teachers, actors, college students and beyond. Some famous.
