“Success in life is founded upon attention to the small things rather than to the large things; to the every day things nearest to us rather than to the things that are remote and uncommon.” — Booker T. Washington Have you ever installed a door? The process requires framing and positioning a doorjamb, with special attention to the hinges. When you've installed a door well you don't even notice it's done correctly, it just works. And when you use the door you don't think about the hinges, the doorjamb or the frame, you simply walk through. One of the most important pieces of a swinging door is also the smallest. It's the pin of the door hinge. Without the pin, the door doesn't pivot and move. It's stuck in place. The pin is crucial. I'm about to introduce my first podcast acronym. PIN. A little piece of hardware in a hinge. A little password that lets you withdraw money from your bank account. A little thing with a lot of potential. You have to listen to the podcast to hear what P I N stands for, but I will say this, Newton's Laws of Motion are involved, and no, it's not boring like 7th-grade physical science class. Do small actions have significant outcomes? Yes, they do. Join me in this episode as I talk about how to hang a door properly (as taught by my builder-father), consider the burn-rate of rocket fuel in the Apollo space missions, and explore the potential of small hinges to swing big doors. Jena Axelrod has been Thriving since she left the womb.  She's been a stand-up comic, top-performing sales performer, amazing sales coach, and now an independent film that is turning heads. Her surreal independent documentary, Absurdity of Certainty pokes fun of how we see the world. With theoretical quantum physicist Dr. F. David Peat we explore what it means that innovations like maps, clocks, Newton's Laws contributed to a Rise of Certainty in our thinking, and how innovations like Quantum Uncertainty and Chaos Theory lead to a Rise of Uncertainty. As The Observer and The Observed cannot be separated in quantum theory, so Director Jena Axelrod and the film crew join David's family and Pari's townspeople for discussions over shared Tuscan dinners, meals which embody the holism for which the film advocates. Jena catches up with Lou on this fun, insightful and entertaining episode of Thrive LOUD.

"A High Horse Guide To England". Featuring J Dot as your host for the evening. Fred Nations bringing facts and insight. Andy Establishment being understated and relaxed (NOT!!) and LinQ not caring about anyone else but his self realised, edgy, egotistical self (joking mostly). @highhorseradio on Twitter for any feedback or topics that you'd like discussed... Rule, Britannia, marmalade and jam, five Chinese crackers up you're asshole, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!!. Now put some kippers on you're toast and grab an umbrella, cause we are journeying over to the motherland, Great Britain!. Nobody in the history of civilisation has spread their seed quite as much as our pasty pale brothers and sisters from across the sea's. These tea and crumpet lovers are like family to us Aussies. Yeah sure, these winging poems, with their bad teeth and smelly breath, hauled us across the planet on large ships, a tactic designed to rid there superior society of thieves and no good felons who threaten to tarnish their great Anglo-Saxon heritage. Little did they realise that the chosen land of exile, was in fact a tropical oasis that birthed one of the greatest nations, not only in the microcosm of the western world, but indeed the broader universe. Both Andy Establishment and LinQ have resided in the UK during their younger formative years, creating a bond with England, London in particular, that will always be a part of their personality and spirit, the essence of who they are. JDot's dad was born in romford, which is a large town in east London, and came over on a 3 month voyage in the year that was 1968. So i would say that our unique perspective here at High Horse Radio, is exactly that. Come on over to England - the birthplace of Shakespeare and the Beatles - it is a country in the British Isles bordering Scotland and Wales. The capital, London, is on the river Thames, is home of Parliament and the 11th century Tower of London, but is also a multicultural, 21st century hub for the arts and business in "The City". Other large cities are Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol, and the university centres of Oxford and Cambridge. Contributions to the world include : Newton's Laws, Smallpox Vaccination, The Programmable Computer, The Electric Motor, World Wide Web, Photography, Jet Engine, Railway Steam Locomotive, Television, Telephone. Famous Musicians And Bands include : Queen, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, The Cure, Black Sabbath, The Who, The Clash, Radiohead, Coldplay, Muse, Pink Floyd...the list goes on!...The Smiths, New Order, The Police, Oasis, Blur, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Spice Girls, The Streets, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy.....Sorry had to take a breath. As you can see we have done our homework, and all the above is only about 15% of whats on offer. Some Fun British Facts Include : There are 30,000 people with the name John Smith in England.. The first fish and chips restaurant was opened in 1820 by a Jewish immigrant.. Nowhere in the UK is more than 70 miles (113km) from the sea.. England brought the world soccer, rugby, and polo. But did you know that Cricket was actually played in France 80 years before England, sometime in the 1500's (this particular fact makes LinQ furious). Seriously, a crazy amount of audio gold and interesting insight is provided in this High Horse Radio special presentation. So come join the panel as they present their version of the history of England. Hope you enjoy this episode..... Theology and Science

Ideas coming from science have had, will, or might have an affect on how we do theology. Consider Relativity, Space, and Time. Explore Newton’s ideas and the concept of container. What was Aristotle's concept of space that was not just like an empty container? In Aristotle's Cosmology, there is a specialness to the center. What did Newton contribute that made it possible for people to think coherently about the universe? Why was gravity that important? Having universal gravitation allowed an explanation for why things act the way they do all over the universe. Newton's Law of Gravity provides a causal framework. With Newton's Law of Gravity, space can be conceived as an infinite container. What is a wave of water? A wave is movement of a thing. Is light like a particle or is it a wave? Explore Luminiferous Ether and the Michelson-Morley Experiment. Luminiferous Ether is a word put on a theoretical need with no other existence outside of that. In all experiments and in every way and direction, the speed of light seems to remain constant. The Theory of Relativity causes us to ask, relative to what? The speed of light is always the same relative to any observer. Fundamental is that there is no way to measure how fast we are actually going. There is no framework of motion that is the right one.

Newton's 3rd law -- to every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction -- can sometimes be puzzling. For instance... when you jump, what is pushing you up? When you push anything, does it push back? And how can you prove this? Well, we've got some great footage to try to show exactly what's going on!

3. Concepts and History of Astronomy and Physics

Transcript: One of the things Newton is famous for is his understanding of the laws of mechanics and his development of three laws of motion. The first law is that an object continues in its present state of motion unless acted on by an external force. This is the concept of inertia. The second law is that an object is accelerated when an unbalanced force is applied to it, with acceleration proportional to the force and inversely proportional to the mass: F equals M A. The final law is for every force or action there is an equal and opposite force, reaction. These laws of motion are the basis of our understanding of how objects move on the Earth and how objects move in space.

The lecture begins with the application of Newton's three laws, with the warning that they are not valid for objects that move at speeds comparable to the speed of light or objects that are incredibly small and of the atomic scale. Friction and static friction are discussed. The dreaded inclined plane is dealt with head on. Finally, Professor Shankar explains the motion of objects using Newton's laws in specific problems related to objects in circular motion, such as roller coasters and a planet orbiting the Sun.

This lecture introduces Newton's Laws of Motion. The First Law on inertia states that every object will remain in a state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force. The Second Law (F = ma) relates the cause (the force F) to the acceleration. Several different forces are discussed in the context of this law. The lecture ends with the Third Law which states that action and reaction are equal and opposite.
