Cultivating Presence in Pivots Episode #154 Welcome back to The Creative Soulpreneur podcast! On today's episode, we have the pleasure of hosting an inspiring duo, Theresa and Ivana. Host Nick introduces us to this dynamic pair, who recently embarked on a powerful journey of personal and professional pivots. Discover how they initially met Nick at a financial services event and how it led them to unpack deep conversations about vulnerability, authenticity, and the multiple layers of pivoting in life. Theresa and Ivana dive into their own experiences, discussing how life's unexpected challenges forced them to pivot and how these shifts have led to new opportunities and a deeper sense of purpose. Learn about the profound impact of Theresa's battle with breast cancer and Ivana's resilience in overcoming PTSD from her experiences growing up in Eastern Europe. Throughout this episode, our guests explore the concept of embracing change, navigating through discomfort, and finding grace within themselves during transitions. They reveal how they support one another and others in their industry to step into their own pivots with courage and intention. Tune in to hear more about their podcast, "Step Into the Pivot," Theresa's upcoming keynote speeches and book plans, and Ivana's exciting retreat offerings. This episode is brimming with insights, heartfelt stories, and practical advice on how to turn any sour lemons life hands you into something beautifully transformative. Takeaways: Embrace the Layers of Pivoting: Theresa and Ivana shared how each pivot goes beyond the surface. It starts physically (like changing jobs or managing health), extends to emotional adjustments, and dives deep into spiritual reflections about who we are and what we want. Give Yourself Grace: Theresa emphasized the importance of allowing yourself the time and space to navigate a pivot. Whether it's selling a business after decades or facing an unexpected layoff, grace is crucial for making thoughtful and impactful decisions. Transform Challenges into Opportunities: Ivana highlighted that even the toughest situations (like dealing with PTSD from past trauma) can be catalysts for growth. By being present and nurturing self-awareness, you can turn sour lemons into nourishing lemonade, or even vegan ice cream!

The US Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis recently released its revised US Space Economy Statistics for 2012–2021. The new data builds on previous estimates that were released in January 2022 by incorporating new source data and improved methods. On this edition of The Ex Terra Podcast, Tom Patton talks with Dr. Tina Highfill, an award-winning research economist with the US Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis. The U.S. space economy statistics are built using BEA's comprehensive supply and use tables (SUTs) and National Income and Product Accounts (NIPAs), which provide insight into the internal workings of the U.S. economy and detail the contribution of specific industries and products to GDP. The SUTs measure the flows of goods and services purchased by each industry, the incomes earned from production in each industry, and the distribution of sales for each product. The NIPA data present the value and composition of U.S. GDP, the types of incomes generated in its production, and its associated employment. The goal of the space economy statistics is to highlight the space-related production and spending that are already present in the SUTs and NIPAs. In practice, these statistics represent a rearrangement of existing data to isolate spending and production for the space economy. COVID had Less of an Impact on the US Space Economy than Other Sectors "Generally speaking, what we found is that the COVID pandemic didn't impact the space economy as much as the overall US economy, but it also didn't see the same rebound," Highfill said. BEA continues to expand and improve upon the space economy estimates with the intention of developing a time series of estimates with full industry detail aligning with BEA's other statistical releases. Additionally, research is underway to estimate space economic activity by categories that are more salient to space community users, such as launch and R&D, to provide an additional layer of understanding about the U.S. space economy.

Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien founded their eponymous design studio, Doshi Levien, in 2000. The duo, who are also real life partners and met while studying at London's Royal College of Art in the late '90s, came to prominence in 2003 with an extraordinary range of cookware, designed for French company, Tefal. At the time, the pieces seemed different and more than a little exciting, a combination of contemporary European design and thinking from somewhere else entirely. In terms of form, each item was incredibly precise. However, flip the pots and pans over and, on the base, was an unexpectedly beautiful pattern. Since then, the pair have gone on to work for the likes of Moroso, Hay, Kvadrat, BD Barcelona, galerie kreo, Cappellini and many others, creating textiles, furniture, glassware, shoes, lighting, and even ice cream, that deftly combines their contrasting skills, ideas and backgrounds. In this episode we talk about Nipa's relationship with colour and textiles; why card is a vital part of Jonathan's process; growing up in India and Scotland respectively and how that affected their design thinking; living and designing together; facing prejudice; that initial project with Tefal; and working with Italian furniture giant Moroso.Yet, mostly it's about how two people with different hinterland have come together to create a single vision.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/materialmatters?fan_landing=true)
