Chaplain Don Moldstad was preacher for this service. 1 Corinthians 15:51-58: Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

What Happens When We Die? • Sunday Service To support this ministry: www.ToddCoconato.com/give Website: www.PastorTodd.org App: www.ToddCoconato.com/ap One of the most profound questions people ask is, “What happens when we die?” For believers, the Bible provides clear guidance about life after death, the state of the soul, and the promises of eternity. Today, we'll explore Scripture to understand what God's Word says about this important topic. 1. Death is Not the End Scripture: “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27, NKJV). 2. The Soul is Eternal Scripture: “Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7, NKJV). 3. Believers Are Immediately with Christ Scripture: “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8, NKJV). 4. The Resurrection of the Body Scripture: “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16, NKJV). 5. Eternal Life for Believers Scripture: “And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life” (1 John 2:25, NKJV). 6. No More Pain or Sorrow Scripture: “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4, NKJV). 7. Judgment for Unbelievers Scripture: “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15, NKJV). 8. The New Heavens and New Earth Scripture: “Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13, NKJV). 9. Rest for the Faithful Scripture: “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on… that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them” (Revelation 14:13, NKJV). 10. Jesus Has Conquered Death Scripture: “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death” (Revelation 1:18, NKJV). Death is not the end for believers in Jesus Christ. Scripture reveals that our souls are eternal, that we are immediately present with the Lord upon death, and that we have the hope of resurrection and eternal life. Let these truths bring comfort and confidence, knowing that Jesus has prepared a place for us and that death is merely a doorway to eternal joy in His presence. “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55, NKJV).

Easter Homily of St. John Chrysostom, Bishop of Constantinople ~ 400 AD If anyone is devout and a lover of God, let them enjoy this beautiful and radiant festival. If anyone is a grateful servant, let them, rejoicing, enter into the joy of his Lord. If anyone has wearied themselves in fasting, let them now receive recompense. If anyone has labored from the first hour, let them today receive the just reward. If anyone has come at the third hour, with thanksgiving let them feast. If anyone has arrived at the sixth hour, let them have no misgivings; for they shall suffer no loss. If anyone has delayed until the ninth hour, let them draw near without hesitation. If anyone has arrived even at the eleventh hour, let them not fear on account of tardiness. For the Master is gracious and receives the last even as the first; He gives rest to him that comes at the eleventh hour, just as to him who has labored from the first. He has mercy upon the last and cares for the first; to the one He gives, and to the other He is gracious. He both honors the work and praises the intention. Enter all of you, therefore, into the joy of our Lord, and, whether first or last, receive your reward. O rich and poor, one with another, dance for joy! O you ascetics and you negligent, celebrate the day! You that have fasted and you that have disregarded the fast, rejoice today! The table is rich-laden: feast royally, all of you! The calf is fatted: let no one go forth hungry! Let all partake of the feast of faith. Let all receive the riches of goodness. Let no one lament their poverty, for the universal kingdom has been revealed. Let no one mourn their transgressions, for pardon has dawned from the grave. Let no one fear death, for the Savior's death has set us free. He that was taken by death has annihilated it! He descended into Hades and took Hades captive! He embittered it when it tasted His flesh! And anticipating this, Isaiah exclaimed: "Hades was embittered when it encountered Thee in the lower regions". It was embittered, for it was abolished! It was embittered, for it was mocked! It was embittered, for it was purged! It was embittered, for it was despoiled! It was embittered, for it was bound in chains! It took a body and came upon God! It took earth and encountered Ηeaven! It took what it saw, but crumbled before what cannot be seen! O death, where is thy sting? O Hades, where is thy victory? Christ is risen, and you are overthrown! Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen! Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice! Christ is risen, and life reigns! Christ is risen, and not one dead remains in a tomb! For Christ, being raised from the dead, has become the first-fruits of them that have slept. To Him be glory and might unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Good Friday: God is Still Good • Friday Service Website: www.PastorTodd.org To Give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give Good Friday is a day that is etched in the absolute, you know, one of the foundational elements of our Christian faith and it's a day with deep sorrow, yet profound hope, because it commemorates the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior, the eternal sacrificial lamb, Jesus Christ. It's a day that appeared to mark a victory of darknes, and I want to I want to point this out, because right now we're in a very dark time in our nation and in our world. It's a very dark time, but remember, there was another dark time, far more dark than today and that was when Jesus Christ himself, fully God and fully man, was crucified on the cross. Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV) - "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed." Mark 15:37-39 (NKJV) - "And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!” 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 (NKJV) - “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." John 19:30 (NKJV) - "So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit." Romans 5:8 (NKJV) - "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Joel 2:28-32 (NKJV) - “And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams,Your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, Among the remnant whom the Lord calls."

Psalm 49:13-15 - Wealth Does Not Determine our Destiny

Pastor Mike Impact Ministries

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 24, 2023 4:57

Psalm 49 is a sermon. It is a message warning us about the futility and vanity of thinking that wealth can buy you happiness or even life itself. There are several lessons we should learn from Psalm 49. The second lesson we should learn is that wealth does not determine our destiny (vv. 13-15). When Jesus told His disciples that it was hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven, they were astonished; for most Jews believed that the possession of wealth was a mark of God's blessing (Matt. 19:23-30). The disciples wondered if wealthy people have a hard time getting into the kingdom, what hope is there for the rest of us? Jesus reminded them that what is impossible with man is possible with God. But people with wealth tend to trust themselves and their money and to believe the nice things people say about them (v. 13). Wealthy people can get saved and born again if they humble themselves and repent of their sins and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior!  There are many wealthy people in the people who got saved such as Zacchaeus in Luke 19, Joseph of Arimathea in Matthew 27:57-60, and Nicodemus in John 3 and John 19:39. The writer in Psalm 49 pictured wealthy lost people as dumb sheep being led to the slaughterhouse by Death, the shepherd, who would devour them. In Luke 16 Jesus told the story about a rich man who forgot to prepare for eternity. This is what Jesus said about him: "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' (Luke 16:19-24). He didn't go to hell because he was rich or because he didn't give to the poor.  He went to hell because he didn't prepare to go to heaven by accepting the only ransom that could save him and that was the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. He did not have a Redeemer for his soul. For the believer, death is only a valley of temporary shadows, and Jesus is the Shepherd (23:4). There is coming a "morning" when the dead in Christ will be raised and share the glory of the Lord (1 Thess. 4:13-18; see Ps. 16:10-11; Isa. 26:19; Dan. 12:3). We can't ransom someone who is about to die (vv. 7-8), but the Lord has already ransomed us from sin and the power of the grave (v. 15; 1 Cor. 15:20ff). When we die, God will receive us to Himself (Psalm 73:24; 2 Cor. 5:1-8; Gen. 5:24), and when Jesus returns, He will raise our bodies from the grave. 1 Corinthians 15:51-57 assures us of this: “Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed--in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?" The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Our decision for Christ, not the possession of great wealth, determines our eternal destiny. God bless!

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 1st of March, 2023, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.“For in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”1 Corinthians 15:22“O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” 1 Corinthians 15:55Oh Hell, where is your victory? The greatest weapon of satan is fear and especially the fear of death. It comes through sin, when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden death came, but Jesus Christ has overcome the power of fear by the power of love and faith in Him! “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”2 Timothy 1:7 Yes, the Lord has taken out the sting of death and eternal damnation and He has replaced it with the reassurance that because He is alive, we shall live with Him forever. Do you remember what Billy Graham said? He said, “One day you will read in the newspapers that last night Billy Graham died. Don't believe a word of it - I would have merely changed my address." That's right, my address will be Heaven. My little grandson was heartbroken the other day when one of his best friend's mom died of cancer, and we had a little talk together. She was a strong and committed Christian woman. I told him to tell his little friend that the Bible says in Psalm 116:15: “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” As someone once said, “Death is just like leaving one room, opening the door and walking into the next room." Oh, but what a glorious room that will be. What a glorious future awaits us, so let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the Author and the Perfecter of our faith, and today go out and comfort someone who is hurting, who is mourning the loss of a loved one and remind them that if their friends love Jesus, they are not dead, they have simply changed address!God bless you and have a lovely day,Goodbye.

A very good morning to you. It is Sunday morning. I greet you in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Today is the 27th of November, 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.Jesus says: “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.” John 14:19What a beautiful assurance. Then we go straight to 1 Corinthians 15:55: “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” O hell - where is your victory? Well, I want to say one thing to you, if you love Jesus Christ this morning and He is your Lord and Saviour, how can we, therefore, die, if He lives forever in us? We can't. We are one in Christ Jesus. So when I die, don't believe what the news states. That's what Billy Graham said. “When you read it in the newspapers, “Billy Graham has died.” Don't believe a word of it”, he said, “I will not be dead, I will simply have changed my address.” Maybe today you are mourning, you have lost a loved one and you are saying, “Will I ever see him, will I ever see her again?” I want you to know that if they loved Jesus Christ, you will definitely see them again. When I go to Israel, one of my favourite places is to go to the Garden Tomb. You can go into that tomb and the amazing thing is, nobody is lying in that tomb. It is empty. There are no bones, no! I know many religions will take you to where the remains of their leader lie, but for us the tomb is empty. Why? Because He is alive. He is not dead. Death has lost its sting and we know as believers, we live forever. Isn't that wonderful news to know in a turbulent time like this? So, if we live, we live for Jesus and if we die, we go home to be with Him forever. “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”Philippians 1:21 “And because He lives,I can face tomorrow,Because He lives,All fear is gone. And because I know, yes I know,He holds the futureAnd life is worth the livingJust because He lives.”Have a wonderful Sunday,Jesus bless you and goodbye.

The Great Vigil of Easter at St. Aidan's, 2022, was exceptionally graced by the Holy Spirit, as each member offered their gifts. Tyler's reading of the Easter Homily is no exception. May the Lord continue the work of renew among us throughout our earthly pilgrimage. Amen.

And a very good morning to you! It is Monday morning, the 4th of April, the year 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”John 10:10The devil is a thief. He is a compulsive liar, he cannot physically hurt us because he has no power. His neck was broken by Jesus on the Cross of Calvary at this very season, Easter. On Easter Sunday Christ rose from the dead and the sting of death lost its power. 1 Corinthians 15:55:“O Death, where is your sting?O Hades, where is your victory?”I want to tell you that if the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you and me, that same Spirit shall quicken our mortal bodies! We really need to understand something - The devil has got no power. He is a liar and a thief. He is the father of all liars. He is the deceiver of the brethren, I want to say to you today, don't listen to his lies. You know, just over a week ago, we were called to the Eastern Cape to pray for rain. People had been writing to us for weeks, “Please hold a prayer meeting for rain.” The only province in our country, South Africa, that was still dry. Well, we left early last Saturday morning on a plane from Durban towards Port Elizabeth. The plane was due to leave at half-past eleven and what happened? Yes, the devil was on the go... fifteen-minute delay - “Sorry, the plane is late!”The team prayed in the departure lounge. I will never forget it. We got on our knees in front of everybody and we prayed, “Lord, we need to get there. People are waiting.” Half-past eleven - no plane! Quarter to twelve - no plane. Twelve o'clock, quarter past twelve, half-past twelve! By this time I said, “Lord, what is happening?” Plane delayed!Eventually, we got onto the plane at 1'o clock. Now we were already too late. I was supposed to be on the platform, speaking at half-past three. The plane flight is an hour and a half, then one hour and forty minutes from the airport to the mountains where we were going to pray. The devil told me, “You are a loser. You will never make it.” The heat of the battle was on. What about you at the moment? Are you in that same battle where the devil is telling you you will never make it? Well, I want to tell you we arrived there and it was too late. It was three o'clock. We were only going to get to that venue at about five o'clock. Do you know what we did in desperation? We found a helicopter, that's right! We hired a helicopter. That youngster, what a pilot - 300kms an hour... flying. We got to the venue and I walked onto the platform at half-past three! We prayed, we worshipped God, we believed God! Multitudes of people waiting.Three days later - rain, rain, rain! Don't listen to the lies of the devil.Jesus bless you, have a wonderful day,Goodbye. “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”Genesis 18:14Then we go to Matthew 19:26:“But with God all things are possible.” That is what Jesus said! And then that old farmer, Job, said to the Lord:“I know that You can do everything…” Job 42:2That is a fact, isn't it? But you know Sarah, Abraham's wife, laughed when God said she was to have a baby. The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh?” Now, as I am talking I can just hear somebody, listening to this Thought for Today, laughing... And you are saying, “My situation is beyond any help, beyond any redemption.” The only thing, my dear friend, that stops God from operating in your life is one word: Unbelief. It ties God's hands - He cannot work with us if we refuse to believe Him and to believe His promises over us. Remember, God specializes in taking 'nobodies' and making them into 'somebodies'. If God can give a woman who is almost 100 years old a beautiful baby boy (Isaac), then He can give you the desires of your heart as well.Just like the disciples of old, today, this Sunday morning, let us ask Jesus to please increase our faith. You know something? Oh yes, He will do it! He can bring rain when everybody says there is no rain, oh yes! He can grow a crop out of the ground where there is no moisture, I have seen it with my own eyes. He can heal the sick, He can set the captives free - He can give us new life. He said, “I came that you might have life abundantly.”Today, go out and trust God for the impossible because there is nothing that is too hard for Him. Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day!Goodbye.

Monday, 28 February 2022   “Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life.” Acts 5:20   The apostles, having been brought out of their place of custody by an angel, are now instructed by him, saying, “Go, stand in the temple.”   This is the public place where the people would hear their message. It is also the place where things would be most carefully monitored by those on duty at any given time. This then speaks of both a public charge and one that is to be without fear of reprisal. They are to go back out and get about the business set before them by the Lord, which is to “speak to the people.”   Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. The apostles are to speak forth this word that they had heard. They are to speak forth about the One they had seen. And they are to convey the message that He has commissioned them with. If the Lord can send an angel to deliver them all from the prison, then He will not abandon them as they stand in the temple that bears His name as they proclaim the word He has put into their mouths! There is to be no fear, but rather boldness on their part as they speak “all the words of this life.”   The words, “this life,” refer to the coming of the Messiah and of those who receive Him as being positionally “in Him,” saved from this fallen world and granted the guarantee of eternal life. Jesus spoke about the contrasting lives in John 6 –   “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” John 6:63, 64   Peter then followed up with his understanding of the matter –   “But Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.'” John 6:68   The words “this life” then do not refer to a new philosophy about how to live out our lives as better people. They do not refer to how we can obtain status, wealth, power, or any other such thing. They do not refer to how to be free from sickness or troubles, nor do they speak about how to be content and satisfied in all situations. These are earthly approaches to an earthly existence. Although any of these things may come upon a follower of Christ, none of them may come as well. And yet, the life that is now lived is one that has a hope that extends beyond what we now experience.   What “this life” means is atonement of sin, freedom from condemnation (resulting from sin), eternal life in a new and incorruptible body, and the hope of an existence that has been prepared by God for those upon whom His favor shall eternally rest. It is an existence that comes solely by faith in the completed work of Jesus Christ. And it is also a life that comes with a guarantee that it is so, the sealing of the Holy Spirit.   What the apostles are being charged to proclaim at the temple is the same as what has now been carefully recorded in the epistles for us to read and understand with perfect clarity. It is the hope of God in Christ.   Life application: Proclaiming the message of the gospel is the duty and responsibility of those who know it. We are not just to get saved and then spend the rest of our lives keeping it secret. It is a message that must be shared in order for others to receive what we have received.   And it is a message we are not to be fearful in speaking out. This is because “this life” is now an eternal one. If you believe that, then the persecutions we face are simply a step on the path to what lies ahead. What is there to fear? If we are guaranteed what God has granted, then to die is gain, not loss. Paul gives us words to consider in this matter –   “So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.' 55 ‘O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?' 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:54-58   God has our future taken care of. Let's consider this as we live out our lives right now.   Heavenly Father, help us to look at the world as a temporary step on the way to a glorious new life. Christ has done the work, we have been granted reconciliation, and what happens now is only a temporary and transitory moment on the way to eternal glory. Help us to remember this always. We are Yours. Use us for Your glory and according to Your wisdom. Amen.

Before heading into the ICU, the last thing Bob reminded us was that, "God is good, all the time." His death leaves his wife, Cheryl, in a difficult financial situation. She's unprepared for the high cost of a funeral service, medical bills, and living expenses. We want to give Bob the memorial he deserves, and to bless his wife by removing any financial burdens. We humbly ask for your prayers and financial support, if you are at all able. We are so very grateful for every donation during this difficult time.

Amen.

So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭15:51-58‬ ‭NKJV‬‬“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:22-26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬The rapture happens both in secret and eventually in public. “ let our light (truth) shine (be seen) of men ...and worship (live) our Father in heaven...”

On this episode of Following Jesus with Christ Church pastors Andrew & Addison talk with long time members of Christ Church Bob & Cheryl La Fleur. Bob is a retired ER doc from the area and serving as an elder at Christ Church, and Cheryl serves as the Womens Discipleship ministry at Christ Church. Bob & Cheryl spend some time reflecting on their experiences around death, Bob as an ER doctor and Cheryl with the recent passing of her mom. What wisdom can be gained as we are all faced with the reality of death due to COVID-19. Quotes from the show: “Let no one fear death for the Death of our savior has set us free. He has destroyed it by enduring it. He destroyed Hades when he descended into it. He put it into an uproar even as it tasted of His flesh. Isaiah foretold this when he said “ you, o hell, have been troubled by encountering Him below.” Hell was in an uproar because it was done away with. It was in an uproar because it is mocked. It was in an uproar for it is destroyed …Hell took a body, and discovered God. It took earth and encountered heaven. It took what it saw and was overcome by what it did not see. O death where is thy sting? O Hades where is thy victory?” (John Chrysostom) “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:3,4 Resources/Links If you want to talk about the process of death, or want some more information about how to be prepared, please reach out here and we will be happy to serve you. Death is the last enemy that will be destroyed and it is not the intention of our God who has given us the vocation of life. Christians have hope in the resurrected Messiah! For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”“O Death, where is your sting?O Hades, where is your victory?”The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 1 Corinthians 15: 1- 58 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7----more---- After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 11 Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. 12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. 20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the first fruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all. 29 Otherwise, what will they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead? 30 And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour? 31 I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. 32 If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” 33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” 34 Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame. 35 But someone will say, “How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?” 36 Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies. 37 And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain—perhaps wheat or some other grain. 38 But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body. 39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds. 40 There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory. 42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in in corruption. 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.”The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit in corruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on in corruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on in corruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O Death, where is your sting?O Hades, where is your victory?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

If we are standing at the crossroads of death, there is only one way to take victory over death.  To be washed by the blood of the lamb.  The sting of death is sin, once sin is removed, death is no more a painful experience. That’s why Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:54-56  54 So when this corruptible has put on in-corruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?" 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.

A.D. 400)    Is there anyone who is a devout lover of God? Let them enjoy this beautiful bright festival! Is there anyone who is a grateful servant? Let them rejoice and enter into the joy of their Lord!    Are there any weary with fasting? Let them now receive their wages! If any have toiled from the first hour, let them receive their due reward; if any have come after the third hour, let him with gratitude join in the Feast! And he that arrived after the sixth hour, let him not doubt; for he too shall sustain no loss. And if any delayed until the ninth hour, let him not hesitate; but let him come too. And he who arrived only at the eleventh hour, let him not be afraid by reason of his delay.    For the Lord is gracious and receives the last even as the first. He gives rest to him that comes at the eleventh hour, as well as to him that toiled from the first. To this one He gives, and upon another He bestows. He accepts the works as He greets the endeavor. The deed He honors and the intention He commends.    Let us all enter into the joy of the Lord! First and last alike receive your reward; rich and poor, rejoice together! Sober and slothful, celebrate the day!    You that have kept the fast, and you that have not, rejoice today for the Table is richly laden! Feast royally on it, the calf is a fatted one. Let no one go away hungry. Partake, all, of the cup of faith. Enjoy all the riches of His goodness!    Let no one grieve at his poverty, for the universal kingdom has been revealed. Let no one mourn that he has fallen again and again; for forgiveness has risen from the grave. Let no one fear death, for the Death of Our Saviour has set us free. He has destroyed it by enduring it.    He destroyed Hades when He descended into it. He put it into an uproar even as it tasted of His flesh. Isaiah foretold this when he said, “You, O Hell, have been troubled by encountering Him below.”    Hell was in an uproar because it was done away with. It was in an uproar because it is mocked. It was in an uproar, for it is destroyed. It is in an uproar, for it is annihilated. It is in an uproar, for it is now made captive. Hell took a body, and discovered God. It took earth, and encountered Heaven. It took what it saw, and was overcome by what it did not see.    O death, where is thy sting? O Hades, where is thy victory?    Christ is Risen, and you, O death, are annihilated! Christ is Risen, and the evil ones are cast down! Christ is Risen, and the angels rejoice! Christ is Risen, and life is liberated! Christ is Risen, and the tomb is emptied of its dead; for Christ having risen from the dead, is become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep.    To Him be Glory and Power forever and ever. Amen!

Jesus then said to the crowds gathered around him, "When you see a cloud forming in the west, don't you say, "A storm is brewing"? And then it arrives. And when you feel the south wind blowing, you say, "A heat wave is on the way." And so it happens. What hypocrites! You are such experts at forecasting the weather, but you are unwilling to understand the spiritual significance of the time you're living in." Luke 12:54-56 TPT What happens to you when you read this scripture? For me there is a prompting, 'Look up, look around, see what is really going on. Don't choose not to look.' I am convicted. Everyone knows that our world is changing. I was reminded again this week that not all change is good. Not all new things are positive. Here is a simple example... As a child I remember having Sunday dinner at my Grandparents home, and watching the series 'Anne of Green Gables'. How we loved to see what trouble Anne was unintentionally going to get into each week, and of course to see if there was going to be any movement forward in the relationship between Anne and Gilbert. It was a fun, clean TV show. Recently another television version of this classic story has been created. I found this 'modern' version to be a bit different to the original version. It has beautiful cinematography, but it also includes scenes of abuse that Anne had experienced prior to living with Marilla and Matthew, the scheming and betrayal of travellers to the town of Avonlea, and a child's discovery of their sexual orientation. Gone is the innocence of the original Anne of Green Gables TV show. I shouldn't have been surprised, I've seen plenty of the TV/You Tube/Gaming output that is around today, but I was disappointed. I know these additions to the TV Show are many people's experiences of life, and I don't mean to ignore that truth, but did this beautiful classic innocent childhood story need to be infused with them?  Is this a reflection of the world we are living in? This continual need to bring the dark side forth? Apparently so, as we are told in 2 Timothy 3:1-5... But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!  2 Timothy 3:1-5 NKJV Okay, so after reading that perhaps you aren't you feeling so positive about life and the future? How do we live in the world but not of the world? How do we keep our eyes on Jesus despite what is happening around us? Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV We have to continually choose to believe God's word is true, that we do have the victory through Jesus Christ. "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?" The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 NKJV We need to declare victory with our mouths, particularly over this next generation, who live in a world of less and less innocence. They need to hear about Jesus and His love for them. They need to experience expressions of God's love - kindness, grace and mercy - through us. God wants them to know that in Jesus Christ, they have the victory too... Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37 NKJV So let's not shy away from what we see happening around us every day, being comfortable in our worlds, but rather let's be willing to understand the spiritual significance of the times that we live in, continually asking God what part He wants us to play in this world. Remembering that Jesus has the victory always and forever. Amen! To find out more please visit https://wendyrobinson.com.au

Hey everybody! We are coming to the climax of our Lenten Journey: Easter is on its way. This week, Holy Week, as you contemplate the joys and mysteries of our salvation in Christ, let your heart be filled with bright faith and overflowing joy. Great is the Mystery We Confess: Christ has Died Christ is Risen Christ will come again. Lent is a season of joy! Because we are drawing near to God. Lent is a season of joy! Because Christ is Risen! When Hope Breaks Through John 20:1-9 Easter Sunday is the Promise of New Life Resurrection Power is available to all for personal transformation Three Big Problems facing people today: Meaninglessness “You Don't Have to Be Neurotic to Feel Insecure: Finding the Courage to Deal With Guilt, Meaninglessness and Despair” by Reginald Stackhouse, Ph.D Empty Senseless Useless Worthless Pointless Inconsequential Purposeless Hollow Trivial Futile This was my condition before Christ. Guilt: This universal human condition. God has hardwired us to know right and wrong Shame Self-reproach Disgraced Alienation Anger (caused by disappointed expectations) Road Rage Domestic Violence Pew Rage Low grade disgusted with people and life in general because of your disappointed expectations. I. The People: A. Mary Magdalene - Meaninglessness Luke 8:2, doesn’t tell us much but that she was demon possessed Possession was looked upon as disease, this victim of an alien and evil power, not an accomplice of it. (ISBE) Whatever we may know of her can be summed up as: A great sufferer relieved A great sinner purified. She came into the circle of believers, marked out from the rest by an exceptional experience of the Lord's healing power. B. Peter – Guilt Jesus’ first words to Peter, “Follow me…” When Jesus entered Peter’s life, this plain fisherman became a new person with new goals and new priorities. He had found Christ to be the Messiah. He knew the Son of God. He boasted in his devotion. And when under pressure, denied even knowing Christ. C.  John – Anger Mark 3:17, "sons of thunder" Rebuking one who cast out devils in the Lord's name because he was not one of their company (Luke 9:49); Wants to call down fire from heaven upon a village of the Samaritans (Luke 9:54); Joined with his mother and James in asking for the highest places in the kingdom of the Master (Matt 20:20-28; Mark 10:35-45); John was the only disciple present at the crucifixion and was appointed by Jesus to care for Mary (19:26-27). II. The Problem Hope had died Mary’s Meaning in Life was dead Peter’s last words about His Master were words of denial. John, this son of thunder, who would lean on Jesus like a dear friend or even a little child, appears to have his expectations disappointed again. III. When Hope Breaks Through The Silence of Heaven There were no angels, no songs, no flashes of lightening. Only silence. It is so non-descript. There is no poetic beauty to it. There are no bold descriptions. No Angels singing in festive choir. Only Silence Hope had broken through. Death had lost its grip. It is all so silent. So alone. How else could it be? When something this grand, this magnificent, this glorious took place only the deafening silence of heaven and earth could declare the grandeur of this moment. There was no chorus worthy. There were no words adequate. There was only silence. There were no choruses of angels. There were no shepherds in rapturous wonder. There were no wise men poised with gifts. What else but silence would do for this event? Then the silence was broken with a simple declaration: He is not here. He is risen! Hope Breaks Through! Hope Breaks Through the Tyranny of Death Hope Breaks Through the Meaninglessness of Life with God Hope Breaks Through the Torment of Guilt Hope Breaks Through the Bondage of Anger Empty promises, empty dreams, empty lives, empty days, empty pleasures; none of these satisfy. But the empty tomb, now that satisfies. The Easter Sermon of John Chrysostom Is there anyone who is a devout lover of God? Let them enjoy this beautiful bright festival! Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. 1 Corinthians 15:50-58
