Our Museum is on the site of America's first integrated factory, where raw materials—cotton, in this case—were converted into a finished product—whole cloth—all under one roof. It was here, on the banks of the Charles River in Waltham, Massachusetts—at the corner of the river and what we know as Moody Street—that the Boston Manufacturing Company became the first successful industrial corporation in America, effectively launching the American Industrial Revolution. The power loom, developed by Paul Moody, is America's original high tech. It was the crucial centerpiece of the system of mass production conceived by Francis Cabot Lowell and launched in 1814. It is Paul Moody after whom the iconic Moody Street is named, and where the Francis Cabot Lowell Mill complex, now a National Historic Landmark, still stands. Tony Connors, author of the dual biography of Paul Moody and machinist David Wilkinson entitled "Ingenious Machinists," will illuminate for us what he feels were Paul Moody's most important professional years, those he spent in Waltham. For although Moody was a major contributor to the establishment later in the 19th Century of the mills on the Merrimack River just a bit further north in what we now know as Lowell, Massachusetts, Mr. Connors makes the case that most of the important inventions and innovations that made them possible were conceived and developed in Waltham.

This contest has been called the Super Bowl of game calling. Tonight we talk to Jon Paul on how to hunt Coyote. 3D-Festival BEYOND 2012 | Symposium Thu, June 21 – Sun, June 24, 2012 Panel Discussion with Mieke Bernink, Paul Moody, Prof. Ludger Pfanz, Pavel Smetana, Prof. Vibeke Sorensen, Prof. Dr. Hélio Souza Karlsruhe becomes the epicenter of the 3D pioneer work: The 3D-Symposium BEYOND is the continuation of the successfully conducted 3D-Festival BEYOND, gathering the most important national and international signposts and innovators of stereoscopic 3D, such as Wim Wenders, Keith Cunningham and Jeffrey Shaw featuring lectures to impel new contents next to application devices in the area of TV, art, science, storytelling and education within this future technology. These different topic areas build the bases of an unusual 3D experience, while the focus of the symposium will refer to the intermediation and transfer of knowledge with help of discussions and lectures. All lectures will be held in English!

3D-Festival BEYOND 2011 | Festival Fri, May 27 – Sun, May 29, 2011 From 27 to 29 May 2011, Karlsruhe will host the world’s first international 3D Festival BEYOND. In addition to current productions and trends in stereoscopic cinema and made for TV films, as well as the development of 3D-gaming, BEYOND will show installations and performances by artists in the area of 3D projection media projecting. The festival focuses on both optical and acoustic perception. Through the title of the event, “3DAYS of DIMENSIONS,” the BEYOND festival points out the linking of visual and acoustic 3D projections to an experience embracing all of the senses. In “3DAYS OF DIMENSIONS,” BEYOND presents the development of stereoscopic processes and futuristic possibilities for presentation. The broad reaching festival spectrum also includes 360° projection, holography, and laser technology. In addition, on the BEYOND-Expo platform the audience can gather information about current developments in the consumer world, as well as visions for the future in the areas of entertainment, engineering, and education.
