Eric kicks things off by confusing parentheses with quotation marks (and maybe third-grade grammar in general), leading to an episode full of playful roasts, nostalgic rabbit holes, and philosophical debates about legacy candy storage. Todd stands by with clarifications and calm judgment.Parentheses Panic: Eric discovers that the keyboard characters he's called quotes might be, in fact, parentheses. Todd gently breaks the news.Grammar and Concussions: Chair shots and DDTs may or may not be blamed for punctuation confusion.Dear Live Journal: Eric reads his latest Civil War-inspired Facebook diary, which somehow includes scorpions, Disney budgeting, and a 2006 Wendy's fry box with emotional value.Toy Talk & Turbo Nostalgia: From Fry Boxes to Battle Trolls, and mystery thermal-chested animals, the duo explores the sentimental value of random childhood stuff.Marketing via Microblog: Eric shares his new social media strategy—disguising work plugs inside daily anecdotes about snowfish, fry boxes, and scheduling crises.Candy in the Trunk: Eric debates whether a child's Power Wheels is a proper candy storage system. (Spoiler: It is.)If you've ever struggled with punctuation, nostalgia, or storing leftover Halloween candy, this episode has something for you. Just don't store your syntax in a fry box.

Send us a textIn this episode of Late to Grid, we welcome karting champion Alyssa Korecky to the Atomic Autosports studio to share her inspiring and relatable motorsports journey. Starting out on a homemade backyard dirt track, Alyssa evolved from riding a Power Wheels to racing full-speed LO206 karts at premier tracks like Mid-Ohio, Nelson Ledges, and Pitt Race.We dive deep into Alyssa's transition from casual backyard fun to competitive karting through the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) and her first nerve-wracking race experience. From spinning out in her first practice session to ultimately winning a karting championship, her journey is one of resilience, family support, and self-confidence. This episode shines a spotlight on grassroots motorsports, especially entry-level kart racing like LO206 and how it opens the door to more advanced formats like TAG karting and shifter kart racing.Alyssa shares great advice for those looking to enter the world of karting, including the importance of respecting speed, building confidence, and learning how to navigate a competitive environment—especially as a female driver. We also explore how racing influences her work life as a professional graphic designer, where precision, performance, and consistency echo her time on the track.Whether you're exploring how to start in karting, curious about LO206 performance, or just love a good underdog racing story, this episode has something for everyone. We even touch on the broader value of high-performance driving events (HPDE) and how karting provides the perfect platform to build racecraft.Big shoutouts to the community at Nelson Ledges, Pitt Race, and all those supporting the next generation of racers through local karting leagues, endurance karting events, and track day programs. This is grassroots racing at its finest—family, fun, and fierce competition.

College football season is here and the one thing we learned after Week 0 is that Jim Harbaugh and Caleb Williams are complete frauds. Cesar lays claim to the MFOTW claim by thinking the group TLC was a reference to tables, ladders, and chairs. So Mike tries to knock him off the mountain with a series of shady college football stories. First up, Brian Kelly and LSU tried to move their week 2 opponent to week 0 so that their star DT could serve his suspension and be available for their match-up against FSU. Next, Caleb Williams, who won't be in college when the next NCAA game drops, whined about the $500 that EA Sports is reportedly offering players to be in the game. Finally, Jim Harbaugh calls out everyone that makes money off of college football players working for free, while ignoring that he, too, makes money off of college football players working for free. The convo shifts to the Trey Lance trade and nobody is really excited about it. The guys talk about the shooting at Guaranteed Rate Field and how a woman that was “grazed” by a bullet in the shooting was actually the one who snuck the gun past security by hiding in her body fat to get past the metal detectors. Plus, the guys laugh at the Nationals for the Strasburg contract. Cesar is excited that Jaylen Brown used his left in the Big 3 All-Star game, and the fellas laugh at the Indiana man that was arrested for DUI in a Power Wheels. Aunt Eloise, who is somehow making bank, invites Nancy and her entourage to a cabin near Cooperstown to investigate a mysterious figure who has been spotted in the mist on the water. The figure leads them to a search for a child's coach (like an 1800s Power Wheels) buried somewhere in the bay. Also, the Jolly Green Normal Sized Bro is haunting the local woods to keep randos away from some vague illicit activity, AND one of Nancy's evil twins is out defrauding citizens. So a normal vacation for everyone. Also Ned is working on his 15th PhD, this one apparently in folklore studies! This club is a buffet of grief and also the thwarted promise of sailboat races!

We fulfill our very first listener request by tackling the movie no one would know about if it weren't for Paul Rudd committing to a bit for like 30 years on Conan O'Brien: Mac And Me! It turns out this is more than just a single scene and is actually an entire ripoff of E.T. meant to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. That feels like a Mad Lib. We break down what did and didn't work about this movie (you may be surprised), discuss cinema's rampant anti-clown biases, ponder the potential max speed of Power Wheels back in 1988, and dissect one of the most troubling and accidentally hilarious deleted alternate scenes we've ever seen. But first, we get a little weirder than usual and touch on ways we want to expand the show beyond our previous scope. Come get weird with us and a movie that may or may not have been a breaking point for us! I had been looking at the box for a couple of weeks and it was huge. The gift inside was indeed huge so I thought all would be well. I have learned when you get a small box that contains a big item, you should worry. But a big box with a big item, no worries! So, when Eliot and I were about to start working on the Barbie Camper Van at 10:00pm on Christmas Eve, I was not worried. Then we opened the box, and I saw 88 screws and a thousand small pieces, plus decals, and I wanted to throw up. Two hours later, after much travail, there it was, in all its pink glory—The Barbie Camper Van! As a parent starting all over again with a little daughter, I knew that breaking out a Power Wheels-type toy would change things forever—ushering in a new phase of parenting–and indeed it has. After a couple of weeks, I realized what Addison really needed was a vehicle with 4-wheel drive. Who needs concrete and asphalt when you can drive over rocks and roots, riding hell-bent for leather! Things will never be the same. This week we have a similar experience when we start looking at the sayings and teachings of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew. We will pick up the Story this Sunday as we look at Jesus' opening words about what he is all about. He actually says as much when he starts. He announces that he is here to inaugurate a new kingdom, a new administration, and a new way of doing things. He moves to the mountains and starts out with the Beatitudes. Have you read them lately? Have you pondered the words of Jesus about life in this new kingdom? Well, let me just say this, every kingdom that has ever been is sort of a variation of the same old thing. What Jesus proposes is a kingdom that is unlike any kingdom the world has ever seen: it is a counter-culture kingdom. It is a grace kingdom. This Sunday we will start our journey through Matthew's Gospel. I can't wait! Oh, and don't forget: Next Sunday we will dedicate our new building!

From the farm or the lake to your home or restaurant, Bayfield County serves up some of the best fresh, locally sourced food in the state. In this episode, we talk about the area’s farm-fresh goodness, what’s in season right now, the best fish to catch on Lake Superior, and some of local specialties and delicacies you just have to try. Plus, get ready for the 125th anniversary of the Bayfield County Fair! It’s a family-friendly and affordable celebration you won’t want to miss. Here are some highlights from this episode of Bayfield County Wild. Bayfield County’s Local Bounty August is one of the “berry” best times to be in Bayfield County. There is a microclimate in the hills surrounding Bayfield that is perfect for growing strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries as well as apples and other fruit. You can still find raspberries and blueberries this month and some varieties of apples are in season starting in September. According to Mary Motiff, Director of Bayfield County Tourism, some varieties of apples will likely be available to pick through October. There are more than a dozen orchards and fruit farms in the Bayfield area, as well as many more farms around the county that raise grass-fed beef, pork and free-range chicken. There are also lots of value-added local products including cheese, fermented foods, honey, jams & jellies and maple syrup. And don’t forget the bakery and desserts made with local ingredients! Lake Superior is a great place to fish, particularly for lake trout, whitefish and herring. Many of the commercial fishermen sell fresh and smoked fish and create delectable spreads that are great to take on the road. Some of the local specialties and delicacies include trout cheeks (which kind of look like scallops) and whitefish livers which are available at some of the local restaurants. It is hard to find a restaurant that doesn’t serve farm-to-table food options in Bayfield County. To find out what’s on the menu at local eateries, check out the Bayfield County website’s interactive map and click on the “restaurants” and “specialty foods” tabs under the “EAT” category. The Fairest of the Fairs Mary says she really isn’t biased when she tells people that Bayfield County puts on a really great County Fair. And this year, there is even more to celebrate because it is the 125th anniversary of the first Bayfield County Fair which took place in 1894. Located on the fairgrounds in Iron River, this year’s Fair takes place Thursday, Aug. 8 through Sunday, Aug. 11 with amazing grandstand events, live music, family fun and carnival rides all included in the price of admission. This year’s grandstand events include bull-riding with real bulls and cowboys vying for a cash prize and the coveted buckle that goes with it. Plus, there’s “Mutton Busting” on sheep for kids during intermission on Friday night (pre-registration required). Earlier that afternoon is the kids’ pedal tractor pull where the winners can qualify to compete at the state level. On Saturday, there’s an antique tractor pull and then that night the Cincinnati Circus comes to town with live, aerial acts and flame-throwing jugglers. On Sunday, the fair closes out with a mini-Power Wheels race followed by the Dirt Dash Race that is a combination demolition derby and figure 8 race, and Native American drum, dance and storytelling. Food is always a big draw at the Bayfield County Fair and Summer Fair Assistant Emily Kovach-Erickson says you’ll find fan favorites like corn dogs, cotton candy, funnel cakes and fresh-squeezed lemonade, as well as new options like the Island Eats Food Truck with fresh, healthier entrees like spicy rice bowls and vegetarian burritos. Family fun is abundant at the Fair with carnival rides and games, a stilt-walking magician, comedy jugglers, face painting and a petting zoo. The barns are filled with prize-winning cows, horses, rabbits, chickens, pigs, sheep and goats and fair-goers can see over 5,000 entries including photography, flowers, canned and baked goods, woodworking, cultural arts, knitting and more. (Insider tip: most items are judged on Friday so you can see which ones earned a ribbon after that). Since this is the 125th year of the Bayfield County Fair, Mary says there will definitely be cake! There will also be limited edition t-shirts for sale and a few more surprises. You just have to come to the Fair to see what’s in store. Daily admission is $12, which includes grandstand shows and carnival rides - almost everything except food and games, or you can get a $30 pass for the entire weekend. On Thursday the price of admission is only $10 and on Friday, Seniors 65 and older also get in for $10. Kids four and under get in free every day and parking is also free. For more information about the Fair, visit www.bayfieldcounty.org/fair or check out the Bayfield County Fair Facebook page. It’s a crazy warm day in February, in Luke Easter Park - on 116th and Kinsman. 60 degrees, a little overcast, no wind.Tania Griffin, 33, and her two-year-old son are out for the afternoon. She follows him around as he motors his tiny, army-green truck over random twigs and ruts in the grass."He’s riding around on his four wheeler, power wheels," she says, "and he loves it. I love it too because it keeps him occupied. But he’s going to have a fit when it’s time to go. Once that battery runs out, we’re gonna have issues."She calls out to encourage him."It’s OK. There you go! There you go, try it one more - "The power wheels gets stuck on a branch.Griffin laughs. "There you go! You gotta turn your wheel, go on!"The truck pops free. It’s pretty much the first chance he’s had to ride it outside since Christmas, she says, when he got it."What he’s doing is he’s learning his surroundings," she says. "He’s also learning how to operate his toy far as maneuverability versus me trying to coach him."Griffin has been working at a security company for a little over a year. She likes it - not too easy, not too hard. And she has a very distinctive hairstyle: a red mohawk, with just a hint of white in the front."It’s different," she says, with a laugh. "It’s very different. I haven’t seen many people with the actual color red mohawk from front to back but it’s the best."So far, she's loving motherhood."This is my first time being a mom so it’s exciting for me," she says. It’s very educational for me - something new every day, I learn being a parent and to me it’s like the best feeling in the world."I used to always say 'oh no I’m not having kids! No, no, no. I’m like everybody’s babysitter, but to have my own was something different."Her son gets stuck in the mud - a burnout without the smoke on his tires.Griffin calls out as he maneuvers forward and back."There we go! Put your feet up, put your feet up!"She pauses."It’s exciting, it really is. Being a mom. I would tell anyone in the world."
