A coaching framework called RESPECT. 4:20 Introduction to Jared and Matt. 5:40 Coaching is about creating culture. The origin for the word "culture" in Latin, and means to care. So culture really is caring about people. 6:50 What is coaching? 7:45 Both Jared and Matt are certified in RESPECT coaching styles. There are 7 different coaching styles you can use. You can use many styles with the same person. 12:50 R in RESPECT stands for the RALLIER style of coaching. This style is the driver. Setting goals and measurables. Ways to move the coachee forward. 16:30 The E in RESPECT is the EDUCATOR. It's a lecture or education to teach a skill or fill in knowledge. General conference is all about educating. Parenting your child is teaching them and making sure they are learning. 19:20 The S is for the STRATEGIST style of coaching. It's finding solutions to problems. They are addressing a problem. 21:10 The P stands for the PROVOCATEUR. This style of coaching makes people squirm the most. It's poking a hole in someone's logic and it's often speaking the unspeakable truth. Jesus was a great example of a provocateur. 26:00 The second E in RESPECT is EXPLORE. Asking questions that even you as the coach don't know the answer to. 29:20 The C in RESPECT stands for the CONFIDANT. The opposite of the provocateur. They ask about feelings and how the coachee interprets things. It's like a warm blanket and validation. It's about listening to work things out. 32:30 The T stands for TRANSFORMER. You can use this when somebody has gone through something difficult and you can have them reflect on that. This style of coaching can be used to help people see either how far they've come or where they could be in six months. 36:00 When you are coaching, you have to ask questions instead of making statements. 38:00 For the leader that wants to use these styles of coaching but feels overwhelmed: You don't have to be an expert. 41:50 Jared and Matt coach Kurt as an example of the different styles of coaching and questions that you can use. 50:00 When picking a style of coaching, ask yourself, what do I know about the coachee and their circumstance? Start with a style and if it doesn't work then pivot to a different style. Explorer can be a great style to start with. 52:20 What would be a good Provocateur question to use as church leaders? These questions are hard questions that come from a place of love. 57:45 Another thing that we can do in coaching is make questions direct or indirect. 59:00 A style that people struggle with is Transformer. However, Transformer can be a way that we turn the hard things that we are going through in life and learn to see them as blessings. 1:05:40 Resources for learning more about RESPECT ...

Although only a young man of 25 when he set out on this fabulous expedition in 1907, salt water clearly flowed in his veins and it is a real pleasure to be learning, 115 years later of the unique adventure he and his small crew embarked upon in a world that had yet to journey to the South Pole. I would like the listener to keep in mind when enjoying this book that at that time in the early part of the twentieth century, the Kerguelen Islands far to the South of Australia, to which Capt du Baty was heading; were known as the 'Islands of Desolation'. To be frank, that was as good a name as any, lying as they did at the edge of the known world- just imagine setting out now in a fishing boat with five other people to sail, and then live at the edge of the world- it's almost beyond belief. Truly, a wooden ships and iron men. This is a book that I have never even heard of before I found it here on the shelves of the Mariner's library, and yet within just a few pages I have found Captain du Baty to be a kindred spirit who is able to capture effortlessly the thoughts and emotions of those who venture out on surface of the deep.

Chrystan Ferrell is an author, leader in the faith, and good friend of Carrie Robaina. She joins the show today to chat about a book they both have been working on called "Sister, Walk In Truth", which is now available for purchase on Amazon! Chrystan had a post go viral on social media several months ago and feels that God has called her into spaces where pop culture Christianity has missed the mark. Stay tuned for an exciting episode of She Walks In Truth where you will be challenged, encouraged, and inspired to press into the whole truth of God’s word! Introduction to Chrystan Ferrell (2:30) Chrystan shares that she is a daughter of the one true king and runs a nonprofit called Imperfectly Brave. She is a wife, mother, speaker, and a writer. She also has a social media ministry too called Real Raw Redeemed. Sister, Walk In Truth Book (4:00) Chrystan and Carrie originally connected over their passion to pursue God’s truth in today’s pop culture Christianity. They are both advocates for standing firm in God’s word and are weary of today’s modern culture seeming to blur the Biblical truth with what modern day culture says is truth. True Connection Episode (6:30) This past September, Chrystan was a guest for She Walks In Truth podcast which she shared on the topic of “True Connection”. If you’re interested in getting to know her story a bit more, check out episode 80! Pop Culture Christianity (7:30) Pop culture Christianity seems to be the river in between the worlds truth and God’s word of truth. Much of our culture has relied on pastors and other leadership to tell individuals what God’s word says which has led us to not getting into the word for ourselves. This causes an issue for everyday believers not knowing the difference between what God says for believers and what the world says. It appears to be there is a struggle where many believers are standing in the middle, confused on what the truth really is. Vulnerability (9:00) Carrie shares how vulnerable she felt growing up in regards to her lack of discernment and taking people for their word simply because they were in leadership. Later on she realized how important it is to discover God’s truth through her own studies. Embracing the Tension (12:00) Just because hard conversations makes us uncomfortable, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have those hard conversations. Sometimes we are called to speak truth in love and we could probably all do a better job of that! We need to ask ourselves, are we going to go toward what itches our ears and suits our own passions or what brings the most glory to God? Light a Fire (13:30) Allow God’s word to light a fire in your life, not just going along with the trend of today! Equipped (16:00) Chrystan grew up in the church but her faith really took off when she was in her late 20’s. A while back she had a mentor challenge her to dig deeper into God’s word, which helped change her thinking from using scripture as a life line in emergency situations to being a guidebook and road map in her everyday life. A Renewed Understanding (19:00) Once Chrystan discovered the old testament was a neon sign pointing towards Jesus, it greatly shifted her perspective. She was then able to see the golden thread of God’s wild love for people all throughout the scriptures! Behind the Why (21:00) Carrie poses a question to Chrystan asking her to share why she went all in for heading up the “Sister, Walk In Truth” book. Rallier of People (23:30) God has given Chrystan the gift being a “rallier of people”. Investing time into co-authoring the new book and self publishing, has allowed her to exercise this gift and share it with others to make a greater impact. Rejection (24:00) Just because there will be a no to one opportunity doesn't mean God isn’t asking you to still move forward with that particular ambition. We need to be cautious in not taking rejection as a no because often times when one door closes another one opens, God knows best! Alexis the “reader” (25:00) Carrie and Chrystan chat about when they were co-authoring the book with other women together, they picked out a fictional character in mind to imagine reading the book one day. They named this reader “Alexis”, and Alexis represents the audience of women who desire to go deeper and know God for who He is, not what the culture is saying. Every chapter and every word of this book is wrapped up in prayer, God’s word, and passion for the whole truth! Sister, Walk In Truth Book Details (27:30) This book will come out on amazon and will also be available for purchase off of Carrie’s official website as well as Chrystan's official website too. On the 24th episode of the Loose Threads Podcast, a show about the intersection of fashion, technology and commerce, I talk with Olivia Wright, the founder of Rallier, a brand inspired by modern uniform dressing with a social mission that aims to decrease gender inequality in schools. Olivia founded the brand after hearing about how the presence of school uniforms dramatically increased the chances girls would attend school. She went to business school and then launched the brand, starting with the social mission and then working backwards. We had a great talk about the the brand’s launch; how it approach design and manufacturing; how it has explored different distribution channels, especially in person events; the power of word of mouth; and where the brand is headed. I’ve known Olivia since before she started the brand, and it’s been really exciting watch her build it over the last year. She’s taking a very sustainable and methodical approach to growing the company, which is paying dividends as she continues to expand. The brand’s laudable social mission and goal to elevate it to a contemporary level is pushing the brand into promising territory. This is the first edition of our Spotlight Series, which profiles emerging brands and companies in a slightly shorter interview. This is new we’re looking forward to your feedback on it. — Show Notes — Rallier https://Rallier.com/ Edited by George Drake Jr. — About Loose Threads — http://LooseThreads.com Join the newsletter: http://eepurl.com/buLQY9 Twitter: http://twitter.com/loosethreadscom The Loose Threads Podcast explores the intersection of fashion, technology and commerce.
