Topics Covered: Celeste's personal foster care story & the origins of The Christmas Box House How The Christmas Box House supports children entering care The importance of keeping siblings together in foster care Small but powerful ways to make foster children feel seen & valued How YOU can get involved and make a difference Resources & Links: Garbage Bag Girl by Celeste Edmonds – Available on Amazon Learn more about The Christmas Box International – thechristmasbox.org Get involved with Utah Foster Care – utahfostercare.org Guest Bio: Christmas Box House Executive Director Celeste Edmunds understands what the children she serves at The Christmas Box Houses are going through. She went through it herself. Her biological parents were addicts, and her childhood was an ongoing cycle of police calls, fighting, and physical, sexual, and mental abuse. At age 7, Celeste was taken from her home and placed into a child welfare system, where moving every few months to a new environment became normal. By age sixteen, she had lived in more than 30 cities. Celeste views her childhood as a difficult but essential growing experience. There were terrible things, but there were also caring people along the way who did what they could to protect and nurture her. She was author Richard Paul Evans' assistant when he founded The Christmas Box International. She quickly became an integral part of its creation, helping to build and refine the original shelters for a decade before taking a new position in Corporate America. Working in the corporate world gave her valuable knowledge of a different kind, with experience in marketing (receiving Marketer of the Year by Utah Business Magazine), public relations, community giving, and team management. Combining her nonprofit and corporate experience, Celeste is uniquely fit to guide The Christmas Box International. Celeste is passionate about making a difference in the lives of youth and the child welfare system so that others may not have to go through the same experiences she had. The Christmas Box International celebrates 29 years of defending more than 170,000 children. That is enough to fill Madison Square Garden more than eight and a half times. Celeste believes that The Christmas Box International is more than a place–it is a concept where community, government, and nonprofits come together to bring the resources to children that they need. As a child who grew up in the system, Celeste understands the importance of providing these youth the opportunity for a better life by providing them with safety, dignity, and hope. Her goal is to give these beautiful children everything she wished for as a child, including hope for a better future. Celeste released her book last fall titled Garbage Bag Girl. She hopes to bring more awareness to the issues that face children in the child welfare system and help them know that they deserve a childhood and are worthy of safety and love. A coaching framework called RESPECT. 4:20 Introduction to Jared and Matt. 5:40 Coaching is about creating culture. The origin for the word "culture" in Latin, and means to care. So culture really is caring about people. 6:50 What is coaching? 7:45 Both Jared and Matt are certified in RESPECT coaching styles. There are 7 different coaching styles you can use. You can use many styles with the same person. 12:50 R in RESPECT stands for the RALLIER style of coaching. This style is the driver. Setting goals and measurables. Ways to move the coachee forward. 16:30 The E in RESPECT is the EDUCATOR. It's a lecture or education to teach a skill or fill in knowledge. General conference is all about educating. Parenting your child is teaching them and making sure they are learning. 19:20 The S is for the STRATEGIST style of coaching. It's finding solutions to problems. They are addressing a problem. 21:10 The P stands for the PROVOCATEUR. This style of coaching makes people squirm the most. It's poking a hole in someone's logic and it's often speaking the unspeakable truth. Jesus was a great example of a provocateur. 26:00 The second E in RESPECT is EXPLORE. Asking questions that even you as the coach don't know the answer to. 29:20 The C in RESPECT stands for the CONFIDANT. The opposite of the provocateur. They ask about feelings and how the coachee interprets things. It's like a warm blanket and validation. It's about listening to work things out. 32:30 The T stands for TRANSFORMER. You can use this when somebody has gone through something difficult and you can have them reflect on that. This style of coaching can be used to help people see either how far they've come or where they could be in six months. 36:00 When you are coaching, you have to ask questions instead of making statements. 38:00 For the leader that wants to use these styles of coaching but feels overwhelmed: You don't have to be an expert. 41:50 Jared and Matt coach Kurt as an example of the different styles of coaching and questions that you can use. 50:00 When picking a style of coaching, ask yourself, what do I know about the coachee and their circumstance? Start with a style and if it doesn't work then pivot to a different style. Explorer can be a great style to start with. 52:20 What would be a good Provocateur question to use as church leaders? These questions are hard questions that come from a place of love. 57:45 Another thing that we can do in coaching is make questions direct or indirect. 59:00 A style that people struggle with is Transformer. However, Transformer can be a way that we turn the hard things that we are going through in life and learn to see them as blessings. 1:05:40 Resources for learning more about RESPECT ...

Noella Sudbury became interested in the issue of criminal records expungement soon after law school, while working as a criminal defense lawyer. Over and over again, she saw clients put in the hard work to get out of the criminal justice system and rebuild their lives, only to have doors slammed in their faces because of their records. That set her down a path that led her last year to found Rasa Legal, an innovative justice tech company, licensed under Utah's legal services sandbox, that is making the process of expunging a criminal record simple and affordable. Last month, Inc. named Sudbury to its Female Founders 200 list, a selection of women founders who have moved the needle in business and in their communities. Last year, Rasa was selected as the 2022 Access to Justice winner at the American Legal Technology Awards. Also last year, the Utah State Bar honored Sudbury with its 2022 Distinguished Service Award and, in 2019, Utah Business Magazine named her its 2019 Woman of the Year. In 2016, after practicing criminal law in private practice and as a public defender, Sudbury was appointed director of the Salt Lake County, Utah, Criminal Justice Advisory Council. She later joined the cabinet of then Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams as a senior policy advisor on criminal justice. In 2019, she led the successful effort that resulted in the unanimous passage of Utah's Clean Slate law, which made Utah only the second U.S. state to automate the criminal record expungement process for misdemeanor offenses. It was over the course of that career that she came to see that technology could play a critical role in automating and simplifying the process of expungement, and it was that realization that led her to found Rasa Legal. In this episode of B2B Marketing: The Provocative Truth, Benedict sits down with John Huntinghouse to discuss how to build a culture of experimentation within B2B marketing.Within B2B, it's very easy for marketing to fall in line. The status quo has an unhealthy grip on marketers. This isn't necessarily due to a lack of desire to shake it up, but rather a series of hurdles that make it much more difficult. However, in order to break the mould and create marketing with an impact, it's crucial to experiment in marketing and find new, innovative ways to approach one's work. How can B2B marketers not only encourage a culture of experimentation but also experiment effectively to get a desired answer?John Huntinghouse is the VP of Marketing at TAB Bank, and he is an accomplished marketer with a background in digital marketing, demand generation, and more. In addition to his position at TAB Bank, John is an Adjunct Professor of Marketing at Weber State University and a Board Member for the American Red Cross. The word “orphan” probably doesn't mean what you think it does. Social Impact Consultant Lindsay Hadley addresses how this misconception has turned well-intentioned charity into part of the problem. Everyone has an instinctual need for belonging. Perhaps that's why “the orphan crisis” so easily tugs heartstrings and draws in billions of dollars of aid each year. But as the crisis continues — and even worsens in some countries — it's time to ask if we really understand the problem we are trying to fix. Could we do better? And what might we learn about ourselves along the way? Lindsay Hadley (hadleyimpact.com) has become one of the most sought-after consultants & producers in the nonprofit sector, raising $50M+ for her clients and leveraging billions for charity through campaigns & events. A founding member of Global Citizen, Lindsay has executively produced Global Citizen Festivals in both Australia and the USA. In this episode, you will hear how Emily Rushton grew her recruitment agency from start-up to $1M in profit in its first year and is on track to reach $3M profit in its second year! What's her secret? There's a clue in her company's name - the keyword here is “integrated.” Emily is the Founder and CEO of Hire Integrated, a fast-growing recruiting agency based in Utah. They launched in January 2021 and in less than two years have scaled to a team of 20 employees. In this fun and informative conversation, Emily shared how specialized recruiting at scale and client integration were key to their success. She also shared how their proactive approach and continuous evolution give them a positive outlook despite challenging market conditions. Emily started her career in staffing at Robert Half where she ranked among the top 20 recruiters out of 11,000 employees. Since then she has built two other boutique firms and also recruited for Netflix, where she helped them write their now industry-leading playbook with best-in-class practices to help them find and hire new talent. Episode Outline and Highlights [04:33] “I didn't even know what a recruiter was” … How a willingness to cold call helped Emily land her first job at a recruitment agency. [09:20] How to excel during an economic downturn; the key mindset shift that enabled Emily becoming a top-producer during a recession. [12:53] Client Integration – what it means and why it's important. [16:50] Helping companies hire better: specialized hiring at scale. [20:14 Staring a recruitment business - how Emily won her first 3-4 clients. [23:30] Key milestones: hitting $1m in revenue by Q3, $1m in profit in 12 months and on track for $3m profit in year two. [30:22] What industries does Hire Integrated specialize in? [35:51] Service lines offered by Hire Integrated. [45:51] Emily's playbook for strategically developing client relationships. [52:52] How to build an account from a single point of contact to gaining access to multiple senior stakeholders. [55:27] The Hire Integrated approach - how to integrate successfully with client companies. [1:01:30] Emily's growth plans for 2023. Consistent Tenacity in Early Days Emily shared a fascinating story of how she got into recruiting - she had no idea what she wanted to be when she was about to graduate. Following her professor's advice, she started cold-calling companies to present her skillset in looking for a job. She was at a job fair and she shared what she was doing with a recruiter, which led to her discovering the career of recruitment. From there, Emily started her career in staffing at Robert Half, where she ranked among the top 20 recruiters out of 11,000 employees. Interestingly, she started her career during the recession. Having an awareness that she could lose her job, she was determined that if it will happen, she will have no regrets knowing that she went all out. “There was this level of tenacity that came out early on in my career. In every single opportunity I had, I didn't lose it. I held on to everything so tight and I made sure that I closed it. During that first recession that I ever worked, I made the most money in my career, I was a top performer.” This mindset of tenacity laid the foundation for Emily's career as a recruiter and ultimately led to her starting her own recruitment firm in 2021. Getting USD 1M in Profit in Their First Year When Emily made the decision to launch her own business, with her own money, she was committed to going “all in” to making it work. Incredibly, Hire Integrated reached $1M in profit by the end of their first year. Emily outlines the two critical things she ensured to have in place when starting Hire Integrated: Focusing on building the brand. Putting together an advisory board with thought leaders she can trust. They did not have any business during the first couple of months. Emily really focused on these two items making sure that the foundation is the first time right. In Q3, they were able to hit the USD 1M revenue. With the current market conditions, Emily still shows the same relentless tenacity as it was in the early days of her career. “With the current market conditions, we are proactively making some shifts to make sure that if we continue to shift, we are prepared to have our best years. Because we are so new, we have a lot of runways ahead of us.” Client Integration and Engagement One key success factor in Hire Integration's successful trajectory is how they ensure that they understand their clients - offering the best long-term solutions possible. As Emily explains, “As we are putting together these proposals or having these conversations as they go higher and higher in the chain of command… it is hitting on the relevant pain points… We have been successful for a handful of those companies for making it up to chains of command and getting those proposals because we've listened, we've been more than a recruiter, we understand the evolution to where they are headed, and we put together very appropriate proposals that are going to help them get to where they are going faster.” Many recruiters find it challenging to engage with the C-Suite, especially if they're currently dealing with in-house recruiters or mid level hiring managers. Emily shared her strategies and approach to how she reaches the senior stakeholders to present much higher value recruitment solutions. He is also the co-author of a follow-up book, https://amzn.to/3e8x9tE (Riveted: 44 Values That Change the World. ) Entrusted has been very well received by the estate planning community and has led to recent speaking engagements with attorneys on the future of estate planning. Andrew is routinely recognized as a Mountain States Top Lawyer. Utah Business Magazine named him among Utah Legal Elite from 2011 through 2016. The National Advocates recommended Mr. Howell as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Utah. Andrew enjoys vacationing in Montana with his wife and their three children when not in the office. He is also an avid fly fisherman, hunter, and skier and loves to be outdoors with his family. Worst investment everAndrew had a second cousin who was older and all grown up. He admired and thought highly of him. The guy had gone to Stanford Law and seemed to be successful. He asked Andrew and another family member to join him and turn the floor into an office-sharing arrangement. Andrew figured it was a good idea, and the three got an SBA loan of $1.7 million to purchase the property. Andrew was busy with his day job, so he wasn't actively involved in running the business. He, therefore, expected his partners to run it. The partners had zero marketing and zero push for the entire project. They had about 70 offices they needed to rent out, but they never got more than 15% occupied. The business was just hemorrhaging money without bringing in any revenue. Finally, Andrew's two partners got tired of pumping money into the business and threw in the towel. This was when Andrew came to find out the second cousin, who he thought was financially successful, didn't own anything. He was up in debt, didn't have any assets, and was going to declare bankruptcy. So Andrew was left holding the bag. The business collapsed, and the bank repossessed what it could. Andrew went through the loss of a relationship. He and his second cousin no longer talk and probably never will. The failed business caused Andrew a tremendous amount of sleepless nights. He was up for months and months thinking about how to come up with $1.7...

She is addicted to endurance sports, an avid triathlete, and had successfully finished the Wisconsin Ironman in 2007.Today, we get to listen to how Katie started VISTA, the things she learned in building a company, and the challenges they had to overcome.Katie also shares her work in career services, the things they do differently from traditional university career services, and how they work together and overcome obstacles as a team. Finally, we hear about the most significant obstacle that Katie had to overcome and how she did it through perseverance. Episode Quotes:Perseverance for Katie"I think perseverance does mean taking what life throws at you and maybe not reacting right away, but taking a step back to think about things because there usually is an answer or a solution or an alternative route that you can take. You just have to keep moving ahead."Her take on the future of work"I do think the way we work may be transforming forever. There's a lot of value in face-to-face communication and building relationships. And I think we've learned that while we certainly can continue 100% virtually, it's awfully nice to be able to be with people. So, my hope is that perhaps we transition back towards where we were before but with a more open and flexible mindset."How she encouraged her team to persevere during last year's chaos"It's so hard to know how good or not good a job you did, but whenever I face difficult things or challenges, it's really helpful to focus on something productive. Just giving people the opportunity to be able to do their job, first and foremost, but then if they were having challenges or problems, whether those be personal or professional, to allow them the opportunity to say, Hey, I'm really struggling here and cut them a little slack. And it seems to have worked well."The lesson she learned on overcoming the biggest obstacle in her life "First and foremost, you can take your situation and either wallow in it or take your situation and say, okay, this is where we are; let's do something with it. As a family, we chose to not focus on the end of life but focus on life today and right now. And I think that that has helped me in pretty much everything since then.Whenever I have an obstacle now, I think about its importance, and it might be important, but in comparison, how big a deal is it, really? Putting things in perspective can help you take that step back and figure out a way to keep moving forward."Advice for people who are experiencing hard days and having difficulty moving forward"Over the years, one of the biggest things I've learned is that we don't have to go at it alone. When I feel frustrated, I turn to so many people. I'm surrounded by incredible talent on my team. If I'm having a personal challenge or a professional challenge, I don't have to sit there and try and figure it out by myself. I have a number of people who are skilled and talented and willing and want to help. And so that's a big piece of advice that I give to people because as a competitive person, it's sometimes really hard to ask for help, but the more you do it, and the more you realize the satisfaction and the joy you get over overcoming obstacles as a team, it becomes easier and easier to do."Show Links:Career Services School ProfileLinkedIn

In this masterclass on accountability, Don takes us through how so many get accountability in sales wrong, what it should be, how to get it right, and how to think about it with his framework called “The Four C's of Accountability”

This is Derek Miller Speaking on Business. Squire has always prided itself on being at the forefront of emerging technology and the accounting industry. We are honored to have Jonyce Bullock, Utah Business Magazine's 2020 CEO of the Year, here to share how Squire adapts and serves during the pandemic. Jonyce Bullock Squire launched a COVID-19 business resource center that kept pace with the many changes and announcements made as the PPP program, FFCRA, and other resources emerged. This includes articles and many free webinars. We worked with clients to get them applied for the PPP to ensure they get the funds they need to stay in business. We continue to watch the situation closely and update accordingly. We also moved all internal and client meetings virtually unless necessary and we set up drop box sites at each location for those who cannot send their files virtually. All employees can work from home outside a very minimal number of essential staff. Although distance has been necessary, we recognize the need for all employees to feel connected to their coworkers. We opened up Microsoft Teams channels for staff to use for "water cooler chats," sent care packages to provide a few comforts, which has made working remotely more enjoyable. Squire understands the value of personal connection while remaining safe and serving our clients. Derek Miller Squire has created a culture of connection and innovation despite current challenges. There are four pieces here, first is fixed vs growth mindset from scholar Carol Dweck. And second is abundance vs scarcity from scholar Stephan Covey. The fixed mindset vs growth mindsetTo briefly summarizeThose who hold a fixed mindset believe that they are either good or bad at something based on their inherent natureSo for example, you are a born leader, a natural sales person. You naturally gifted at something. You are who you are.Or conversely, there are those who believe in the growth mindset. These are Individuals who believe their talents can be developed (through hard work, good strategies, and input from others) have a growth mindset. Now the second piece is with with abundance mentality vs scarcity mentality. Someone with an abundant mentality is an optimist and is genuinely happy for others when they achieve success. Conversely, those with a scarcity mindset are competitive and resent other's success.Follow Don online at Www.4csofaccountability.comPlease subscribe to The Morning Jolt Podcast at: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-morning-jolt-podcast/id1511514689 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Rqxjrxz9KccnTeZzkIXXB?si=IbYYXGAmRTeCmDs2JcNzXDon Markland is the CEO and owner of Accountability Now™, an Executive Coaching and Business Strategy company out of Jacksonville, Florida. Use the difficulty is defined as when we are presented with challenges, obstacles, or adversities we use them to build us up and make us who we are. When you learn how to do this you can become a powerful individual. The trick is to use the difficulty. Don't give up. Be better. Right through it. When things get hard. Push through it. Replan. Retrench. Refocus. And go at it again. Nothing will be persistenance. And nothing will beat you. Much has been written about entrepreneurs and salespeople needing to overcome fear to be successful. We've heard Ted Talks that inspire us to act, seen the fire walks that motivate us to move and even read the stories that invigorate us to fight through fear, yet it seems that somehow the message doesn't get through. Time and time again, too many entrepreneurs and salespeople succumb to fear. The problem is they don't even know it.Getting to $1 million in sales starts with simple, repeatable processes and a persistent mindset to break things and overcome your daily fears.Yielding to fear can be masked in many forms that we feel are productive -- it can be clouded in a myriad of busy yet seemingly fruitful activities. Researchers James Hayton and Gabriella Cacciotti from Harvard Business Review write that many entrepreneurs who are paralyzed by a fear of failure spend more time talking about issues rather than actually doing something about them. Instead of actively being on the phone trying to gain new customers, the entrepreneurs paralyzed by fear are stuck in conference rooms doing something like the following:•Brainstorming why they need to call more customers•Discussing reasons why they haven't been calling customers recently•Strategizing new ways to contact customers because calling doesn't seem to be working anymoreIn the end, they are talking and not doing. Many of those same entrepreneurs or salespeople would never suggest they are paralyzed by fear. You'll learn the three streps you breakthings and be so much more productive it'll blow your mind! For almost nine in ten companies (and that's 84%), it's very vital to have data at the very core of their business strategy. Sadly, nearly half (43 percent) fail to consistently use data to guide business decisions. This is why being data-centric is so friggin' important! What's crazy is that so many people, teams, and organizations are calling themselves data-centric yet they aren't. They are simply pretending to be. Are you committing the sins of data-centric masquerading? We all know what testimonials are but let me really specific here.According to Merriam-Webster, here is what testimony is defined as:a)solemn declaration usually made orally by a witness under oath…b)firsthand authentication of a fact So a customer testimonial is an oath driven factual statement about a company's service or product. I love what the group StrategicFactory said about it on their blog stating“Consumers naturally trust each other more than they trust just marketing collateral, so that testimonial adds more weight to the decision they're trying to make.”Here are some additional statistics as if you didn't need more convincing:•92% of consumers read online reviews and testimonials when considering a purchase. According to Vendasta•95% of people say that reviews – whether positive, or negative – influence their purchasing decisions. Study conducted by Wyzowl•90% of buyers who read positive customer success content claimed that it influenced their purchasing decisions. Study from Dimensional Research•Customer testimonials have the highest effectiveness rating for content marketing at 89% research from Social Fresh•47% of people say testimonial videos are effective because they help visualise how a product or service actually works another study from WyzowlSo if we know testimonials are so powerful, we do so many companies struggle to get them? We see certain companies doing really well, they flood TrustPilot and Google Reviews all the time, whereas others, especially smaller groups, startups, solopreneurs, coaches, really miss the mark here. Simply put, two reasons:First, you don't have a process in place to ask for them.Second, you don't have know how to use them once you get them.Follow Don online at https://accountabilitynow.subscribemenow.com/Please subscribe to The Morning Jolt Podcast at: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-morning-jolt-podcast/id1511514689 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Rqxjrxz9KccnTeZzkIXXB?si=IbYYXGAmRTeCmDs2JcNzXDon Markland is the CEO and owner of Accountability Now™, an Executive Coaching and Business Strategy company out of Jacksonville, Florida. We've all been given 168 hours every single week. We have the same 168 hours no matter what. We have the same 168 hours as President Donald Trump to President Barack Obama JK Rowling to single mothers and entrepreneurs and everyone in between. There is nothing more proven than how you use your time can make you a billionaire like Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, or Oprah Winfrey or a homeless person. You have to choose. In your life, you should have a love / hate relationship with your boss, or mentor, or executive. Not because they are rude or cruel to you, but because they ask questions of you that make you uncomfortable – they make you rethink things and look at things in a different way. This is part of executive presence. Having the state of mind and willingness to ask the questions to people that cause them to think and act differently. Big shout outs to Lisa Lai from Harvard Business Review and her work https://hbr.org/2017/01/being-a-strategic-leader-is-about-asking-the-right-questionsAnd Dr Amy Cuddy for her amazing boom Presence Follow Don online at https://accountabilitynow.subscribemenow.com/Please subscribe to The Morning Jolt Podcast at: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-morning-jolt-podcast/id1511514689 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Rqxjrxz9KccnTeZzkIXXB?si=IbYYXGAmRTeCmDs2JcNzXDon Markland is the CEO and owner of Accountability Now™, an Executive Coaching and Business Strategy company out of Jacksonville, Florida. In my years as a leader, executive and top business coach, I've asked countless individuals to tell me about the best boss they've ever had and sure enough, their eyes always light up. Further, I regularly coach people when working with bad bosses. I teach that we can learn from every boss we ever work with, good or bad. Sadly, the feedback they give on bad bosses is significantly more regular. Many times, people find themselves in a situation with not only a bad boss, but a bully boss with no idea what to do.First, some context on workplace bullying and the bully boss. How bad of a problem is this?A 2017 study found:• 60 million Americans are affected by workplace bullying in some fashion• Of those affected, Bosses comprise 61% of bullies• When trying to stop bullying, 65% of bullied employees lost their original jobsHere is the Stress Management Tool Kithttps://www.themuse.com/advice/mental-health-professionals-advice-dealing-with-an-emotionally-abusive-boss-cant-leaveFollow Don online at https://accountabilitynow.subscribemenow.com/Please subscribe to The Morning Jolt Podcast at: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-morning-jolt-podcast/id1511514689 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Rqxjrxz9KccnTeZzkIXXB?si=IbYYXGAmRTeCmDs2JcNzXDon Markland is the CEO and owner of Accountability Now™, an Executive Coaching and Business Strategy company out of Jacksonville, Florida. In every industry, every company, every department, and sometimes even every team, we see them: the highly productive people who seem to be able to do more and produce more and who make people say, “How do they do it?” So we often spend our money on cheats like trendy apps or new reminders that we hope will give us the productivity jolt we've always seemed to lack.In studying super-productive individuals, I've come to believe it isn't the apps, the technology or their ability to use assistants that makes them productive. The most common trait I see is what I call the power morning. For years, I struggled to maximize my own productivity in my work as a sales executive. Then through hours of personal study of hyper-productive individuals, I developed the method of the power morning — in other words, a duplicatable process I feel is commonly followed by the most effective and productive leaders. This comes down to creating your POWER MORNING. This podcast gives you these insights that will change your life more than anything expect perhaps the 4Cs of Accountability. If you want your FREE EBOOK on Accountability, you've got to go tohttps://accountabilitynow.subscribemenow.com/And get it! It's yours FREE!I'm often asked in my years of managing big teams, and multiple million dollar sales teams, what's the best way to hire and manage these people. There are two tricks: The first is the letter and the second is teaching the mindset of Earn Your Title everyday. This is Letter is such a sweet secret, you'll never forget it. It is so personal yet so easy, it'll help your Onboarding process like crazy. Secondly, it's all about titles. Remember, titles are basically free. So use them to your advantage. I've hired many employees over the years and noticed that many times the first few weeks of onboarding are when an employee is most productive — they are most willing to work extra hours, give the highest effort and strive to make the strongest first impression. The challenge comes when that wears off and the true character is revealed. As a business leader, I'd love if it were possible to keep that same first-three-week employee every single day throughout their tenure. We can encourage this in every employee, including ourselves by adoptive the mantra of earning your title every single day. In a Harvard Business Review article, Jim Whitehurst suggested the daily behaviors of the leader having a bigger influence on company culture than anything else. If you are a manager or leader, you are the one who earns that role every day by working the hardest, most, and kindest to customers every single day.Leadership and title is demonstrated by your behavior not your ranking or title. I learned a set of principles years ago called the three Hs:Create an environment where you and your team always embody the three Hs:1. Humble: Learning experiences come from everywhere. As Bradley Staats explains, some of the best opportunities to learn from others come not just during formal teaching, but from seeking out different opinions from yours.2. Hungry: Physically write down your goals and targets every day and share them with those around you. This creates the ache, the hunger to drive you.3. Hunting: Hunters take a lot of shots and that stay at it every day; hunters understand they do not eat unless they win the day. Have a hunter's mentality every day.Earn your title and make a difference.Follow Don online at https://accountabilitynow.subscribemenow.com/Please subscribe to The Morning Jolt Podcast at: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-morning-jolt-podcast/id1511514689 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Rqxjrxz9KccnTeZzkIXXB?si=IbYYXGAmRTeCmDs2JcNzXDon Markland is the CEO and owner of Accountability Now™, an Executive Coaching and Business Strategy company out of Jacksonville, Florida. Confidence is a skill. You see, I believe that confidence is a skill set, not a personality trait. I grew up thinking the opposite. I would see extroverted professionals in front of crowds, giving speeches or leading discussions, and I would think “those people are so naturally confident.” I was later proven wrong. When I met many of them intimately, I learned that successful professionals struggled with confidence just like all of us do. They were just more practiced — they had developed the skill set of confidence and I hadn't. So instead of being envious that I wasn't born with some imaginary confidence gene, I realized I had the exact same professional potential as anyone else — it simply came down to what I was willing to go after. As I read in the Mel Robbins book The 5 Second Rule, “Confidence is created by all the small things you do every single day that build trust in yourself.”This podcast gives the three tips you can apply today to develop confidence as a leader, entrepreneur, or even parent right away. In the 1840s, thousands and thousands of immigrants and Americans trekked across the wild united states to travel the West Coast on the idea that they cold find gold in the mines and rivers of California. This is known as the California Gold Rush. They risked everything for this and many came up empty handed. But here is the point that is essential: all of them believed they MUST do this and that they were the ones that could do it. They didn't sit back in Oklahoma or Ohio and wait for the Gold to come to them. Miners go to the gold. And so should you. If you don't use your brain every day, you'll lose it.• If you don't push your ambition constantly, it'll dry up.• If you don't apply your energy constantly, it'll be drained and you'll be more tired.• If you don't set goals, you'll be less focused. To me, this is a universal law. William Shakespeare said,“We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with meShall be my brother”Over 450 years ago, he taught the idea that if you will merely sacrifice with me, I will adopt you into my eternal family. For most of my career, I've worked with millennials. In fact, I would dare say that we all do. By 2025 – a mere five years from now – millennials will make up 75% of the entire workforce. Working with millennials is not a leadership problem. It is a management problem. Millennials, as all employees, need structure. They need discipline. They need accountability. Let say this next part very clearly, this is not a Millennial issue – this is an employee issue. All employees need discipline, accountability, This doesn't mean they need more negativity or criticism. They need more encouragement. They need more engagement. They need more management.Youtube Bottom:Follow Don online at https://accountabilitynow.subscribemenow.com/Please subscribe to The Morning Jolt Podcast at: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-morning-jolt-podcast/id1511514689 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Rqxjrxz9KccnTeZzkIXXB?si=IbYYXGAmRTeCmDs2JcNzXDon Markland is the CEO and owner of Accountability Now™, an Executive Coaching and Business Strategy company out of Jacksonville, Florida. In today's podcast, we will discuss real strategies on how to make more money today and fix that bad relationship once and for all. If money is so important, then why do so many people have such a terrible relationship with it? Why do so many people avoid talking about it, or avoid asking for it, or even avoid expecting it for their hard work? I've heard people say for years “Ya know, Money isn't everything…” to which I've responded, “I agree but what's your point? This is Part IV of the Job Hunter Series with Follow Up and Mindset.•Part I LinkedIn Power Profile vs the Resume;•Part II Job Hunting vs Applying, •Part III The Magic 4-Step Interview•Part IV Follow Up and Mindset According to the Bureau of Labor statistics, it takes someone between 22 – 27 weeks, or roughly 4-6 months, to find a new job. If you are in a high skill or high paying job of Vice President or higher, that can be as high as 6-8 months. Now this statistic is the average. It doesn't mean you anything because many things can impact it. For example•The quantity of jobs of where your preferred job location is (like try finding an acting job in Des Dubuque, Iowa, for example)•The geographic flexibility on the part of the job hunter•The flexibility in terms of job preferences (those exclusively looking for management or something which is very difficult to land will very likely have a longer job search)•The credentials of the job seeker, and the level of demand for one's skills•Like real estate, longer one is unemployed, generally, the longer it will take to find work•The amount of time and energy devoted to the job search•The quality of job search materials, including the resume and cover letters•The quality of job search strategy, including the level of networking activityPlease subscribe to The Morning Jolt Podcast at: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-morning-jolt-podcast/id1511514689 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Rqxjrxz9KccnTeZzkIXXB?si=IbYYXGAmRTeCmDs2JcNzXDon Markland is the CEO and owner of Accountability Now™, an Executive Coaching and Business Strategy company out of Jacksonville, Florida. This is Part 3 of our 4 Part Series on Job Hunting:•Part 1: the LinkedIn Power Profile vs the Resume;•Part 2: Job Hunting vs Applying, •Part 3: The Magic 4-Step Interview•Part Four: Follow Up and Mindset Here is what one person said going through this method:“I had an opportunity to interview for a new position, and I have not been in the job market for a long time. I knew I was rusty, so I seek out Don for help. Don helped me put together a 'story line' that clearly laid out my professional life, and not just talking points. The story line is logically laid out, and truly afforded me the best vehicle to deliver the best of my professional and personal experience. I would strongly recommend Don Markland if you are looking for a career coach. I definitely would leverage Mr. Markland's services again.”In a survey from FAST Company in 2019, they illustrated that more than half of all recruiters cite the number one trait they look for when finding a strong candidate is “high potential.” This includes problem-skills, the willingness to learn, and the ability to make decisions. Further, Eric Wargo from Psychological Science.org suggests that people make their first impressions of you in the first seven seconds. So now you've got some data. You have to demonstrate high potentional, problem-solving ability, a willing-ness to learn, and the ability to make decisions, all in the first seven seconds. How do we do that?Step #1 – The Meet and GreetThis is all about asserting dominance and demonstrating potential and letting them know you stand out from the crowd. •Rule #1: Be the Alpha and be the First to Speak. If you are walking into an office to meet an interviewer or joining a phone call, do not wait for them. Start the conversation first. “Hi, this is Rebecca, right?” Demonstrate you want to own the conversation. Not in an aggressive way. But in a confident way.•Rule #2: Speak with Confidence Always. Remember, you have a great story and and I tell my clients to imagine they have already won the interview. Imagine as if they already told you that you are hired but want to recap everything for documentation purposes. In this process, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose. •Rule #3: Use a firm Handshake (or if over the phone), and demonstrate early and genuine gratitude: “thank you for this opportunity. I'm really excited to share some thoughts and ideas about the [insert position] and see if this is the right fit. This is already planting seeds that you feel good about the position and feel confident you can do the role. In addition, you want to learn from them about their ideas which demonstrates a willingness to learn as cited before. Next, we will walk through your story. The number one most commonly asked question in an interview according to multiple sites, and its how nearly every single interview starts out, is:“Tell me about yourself.”I've heard this question blundered and messed up so many times. This question is gold! Which leads us intoStep #2 The Hero's JourneyBefore you get to the interview, you will know this “Tell me about yourself” question is coming, so I'd take time to prepare this part of the process.Don't give a long list, job by job, of what you've done. That is boring and exhausting. Use the Hero's Journey Method. The Hero's Journey should only take 3-4 minutes and should be a very tightly prepared script you've memorized. This is your story. You should know it by heart. And remember, it's stories that make us memorable. That's what will connect them to you. Next, we will move into what's called the Lob & Volley portion of an interview. Here is when interviewers ask you a series of questions about your experience and you respond with answers. Step #3 Answer Problems with Stories Remember this, stories are memorable. Answers are not. Every question, should have a story associated with it in some way. For example, when they ask you about your experience with XX type of work, When asked, do have any experience with XX type of work? Your response could include, “Actually, that reminds me of how I used to work with…” and continue with the story. This gives you a chance to demonstrate who you solved problems or did something incredible. Keep your stories focused on problem solving and under three minutes long. You will want to rehearse stories and have 5-6 stories prepared from your history that demonstrate a wide array of problem solving. The Final Step #4 Is Asking Dynamic Questions. Be focused on the emotional ego of the interviewer not necessarily you getting answers. Einstein said the definition of insanty is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. If Einstein were alive today, he would adjust that quote and say, insanity is applying for jobs online and expecting an interview. How important is Networking to get a job?Well, According to Business Insider, at least 70% of jobs go unlisted. On a LInkedin Survey, they showed that number to be as high as 85%. One of the major reasons that networking is such an effective way to get a job is that there is something of a hidden job market out there. Some estimate that as much as 80% of new jobs are never listed but are instead filled internally or via networking. In fact, getting a referral for a job opening from someone who's already working with the company could give you pretty impressive odds. Only 7% of job applicants get this kind of referral, yet referrals make up 40% of new hires. Clearly, networking isn't just one potential route to finding a new job — it's actually the most effective path. The Net + Work Concept on Forbes https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbesbusinessdevelopmentcouncil/2019/05/09/how-to-apply-the-net-work-concept/#4f9b0a62794fPlease subscribe to The Morning Jolt Podcast at: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-morning-jolt-podcast/id1511514689 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Rqxjrxz9KccnTeZzkIXXB?si=IbYYXGAmRTeCmDs2JcNzX Don Markland is the CEO and owner of Accountability Now™, an Executive Coaching and Business Strategy company out of Jacksonville, Florida. That's kind of a subtle thing. But think about it. People will analyze things for months, months, months to get it just perfect to get it just so the best thing you can do is execute today. General MacArthur once said that an unfinished plan violently executed today. It is way better than the perfect plan executed a month from now. Go out and do it today. I’m honored to have such an amazing guest speaking about a topic that is now very personal to me. In this episode I share about my own infertility journey and how it’s impacted my career path. I’ve wrestled with sharing this so publicly, but when I first went through fertility treatments I couldn’t find many resources about this topic and work. I want to help other women who are going through an infertility diagnosis and trying to figure out how to stay sane and just make it to work every day. This is by far the hardest problem I’ve ever faced. If you personally don’t struggle with infertility, the data shows that you know someone who is struggling or has in the past (one in eight couples has some type of fertility issue), so it’s important to know how to talk about it and support other women. (https://livlyhood.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Camille-Counselor-2-2.jpg) Camille discusses how to help an employee or coworker going through infertility treatments, how to handle your boss if you’re about to go through fertility treatments yourself and how to talk about this sensitive topic with others. Camille Hawkins (https://camillehawkins.com/about-me/) is an entrepreneur, advocate, mental health counselor, and the founder of the Utah Infertility Resource Center. She holds both a bachelors and masters degree in social work as well as a certificate in nonprofit management. Camille was recognized by Utah Business Magazine as a 20 in Their 20’s honoree and given the Early Career Community Award by Utah State’s Women & Gener Studies Department. She is actively involved in local advocacy, research, teaching, and community outreach as well as directly helping therapy clients one-on-one with reproductive trauma and perinatal mental health concerns.
