“This is the goopiest movie of all time!” - Steve On this episode, the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza heads to space as we chat about the better-than-Andrew-remembered sci-fi sequel, Alien: Resurrection! How fantastic is Sigourney in this one? Shouldn't Brad Dourif's evil scientist have tried to train just one Xenomorph at a time instead of a Baker's Dozen from the jump? Shouldn't we have seen the initial pirate heist of these hyper-sleep people? Why couldn't Christie have just shaken that dead alien off his boot? How great is that basketball shot? And how fabulous are all these gloopy, soupy, alien puppets?! PLUS: The guys come up with another great sci-fi horror pitch for the new film, Werewolf Astronaut! Alien: Resurrection stars Sigourney Weaver, Winona Ryder, Dominique Pinon, Ron Perlman, Gary Dourdan, Michael Wincott, Kim Flowers, J.E. Freeman, Brad Dourif, Raymond Cruz, Leland Orser, and Dan Hedaya as General Perez; directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. This episode is brought to you in part by Factor! On this week's show, we watched 1997's Alien: Resurrection starring Sigourney Weaver, Winona Ryder, Ron Perlman, Brad Dourif, and Raymond Cruz. From director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, this next installment to the Alien franchise features an entirely new version of Ripley, a lot of aliens, interstellar mercenaries, a bumbling military, and some mad scientists. Toss in a dash of pretty solid FX, plot inconstancies, a few chuckles, and cringey dialog, and you've got the makings of a big budget, cult classic. Be sure to let us know what you think of the movie, and the podcast. Thanks and enjoy!
It's Die Hard in the war on drugs! For this very special episode, Phil and Liam are joined by a VERY special guest: actor, writer, director, comic book author, renaissance man and podcasting superstar PAUL SCHEER! That's right, the effervescent host of top film podcasts Unspooled and How Do This Get Made? chartered a helicopter and flew in to join Phil and Liam for an intensive analysis of this mid--90s classic! The film's complex plot is thus: after a close friend is murdered by international drug traffickers, the vengeful US President (Donald Moffet) tacitly instructs his National Security team to launch a series of secret military strikes against the parties deemed responsible. Soon the new CIA deputy director Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) discovers himself to be an unwitting pawn in a covert, illegal war between American paramilitary forces and the Colombian drug cartels. As the carnage escalates, Ryan must find a way to quell the bloodshed and expose the corruption at the heart of his own government. CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER is the third entry in the Jack Ryan film franchise that started with THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. That particular movie was of course directed by DIE HARD helmer John McTiernan, meaning that there is plenty of ‘DIE HARD DNA' in the mix here…but does this motion picture also share some key similarities with Christopher Nolan's OPPENHEIMER? The guys assess its influences and its legacy, while also wrestling with another burning question: is this the ultimate ‘Dad movie'? Paul talks passionately about his deep and long-standing connection with DIE HARD and his youthful love for all things Bruce Willis, and the guys go deep on the film's eclectic creative contributors, that includes personalities such as Tom Clancy, Harrison Ford, Philip Noyce, John Milius and Steven Zaillian. They also discuss the virtues of an outstanding ensemble cast that features the likes of Willem Dafoe, James Earl Jones, Anne Archer, Thora Birch, Joaquim de Almeida, Henry Czerny, Harris Yulin, Raymond Cruz, Benjamin Bratt and Miguel Sandoval. Paul even discusses the part he'd most love to play! The stacked cast makes for a particularly entertaining edition of the ‘Die Hard Oscars', and a tantalizing trivia quiz provides some stimulating brain-teasers…along with a warm and fuzzy moment or two. This highly entertaining episode is not to be missed - how DARE YOU not listen to it?! CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER trailer:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuYb6ZNQaZoAt the time of release, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER is streaming on Paramount + and is available to rent of buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple/iTunes, YouTube, Vudu, Redbox, Direct TV, AMC and all the usual platforms.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/die-hard-on-a-blank/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Los Angeles-based literary manager and producer Jarrod Murray joins the crew of the USS Hit Factory to discuss 'Under Siege', the 1992 action thriller starring Steven Seagal. We discuss the exemplary direction of journeyman Andrew Davis who would go on a year later to make his opus, 'The Fugitive', praise the transcendent performance of Tommy Lee Jones as the madcap leader of a group of nuclear terrorists, and return to one of our favorite preoccupations: the meteoric rise (and astonishing fall) of Steven Seagal, movie star. Finally, we mourn the loss of a bygone staple of Hollywood: Cool Boat Cinema™, and contemplate who might be able to take up the mantle and revive the genre in 2023. Follow Jarrod Murray on Twitter. Recently separated, doesn't see his kids enough and not doing well at his job. Greg finds a certain Bliss when he meets a woman with "powers" supplied by a mysterious crystal when ingested and consumed. Bliss does a pretty wonderful job (while being ambiguous enough) to make the watcher not really sure which world is which and which one Greg Wittle ends up in. With evidence both ways, it may even require multiple viewings as there is always something going on in the background you may have missed. (4/10) Nobody Bob Odenkirk- should have done this a decade ago. Nobody is one of the best movies of 2021. Hutch Mansell (Odenkirk) has a born life- His wife won't touch him, his son thinks he's a wimp, his work is the most monotonous routine and he misses the trash every week. When his home is targeted for a break in and money and a kitty cat bracelet is stolen, Hutch sets out to find it. On his way home he intervenes to help a young girl get home safe, nearly killing a drug lord's brother. Akin to John Wick, and plot kicked off by a domestic animal, Nobody has absolutely wonderful choreography and action sequences- almost like a dance. Connie Nielson, Christopher Lloyd and RZA are wonderful also as supporting cast. (8.5/10) Hosted, produced and mixed by Grayson Maxwell and Roger Stillion. Guest appearance by Chris Boughan.
