Please subscribe to the Weekly Market Call on your normal podcast app. For this week's Market Call Gareth and Jeremy are joined again by Scott Evans of the London Business School and the Deutsche Numis Equity Indices. Scott talks about market performance in Q1 2024. Where have markets come from, how have they performed in Q1, and where are they going? Bond yields have risen, inflation is sticky, and rates are higher for longer. Equities have had a good quarter, albeit the Magnificent Seven have not been quite so magnificent. The UK, by comparison, has been lacklustre. Gold has been the Q1 showstopper, and the main buyer seems to have been China's central bank, the POBC. Are they about to devalue the Red Cabbage or launch a military campaign? In Q1, small caps underperformed large caps in Q1 in UK and US. The UK IPO market remains moribund. There have been more deaths than births in the UK market YTD. Is the UK stock market just a dumpster fire, or can it recover? Gareth is hopeful for a recovery.Jeremy highlights the Middle East conflict, its limited impact on financial markets, and what to look for going forward. The big news is UK inflation, but he remains sceptical that the UK will cut rates ahead of the Fed.Gareth discusses the week's company news, highlighting the Severfield results with a strong order book and a share buyback. In next week's news, Jeremy highlights US PCE inflation data and the Bank of Japan's interest rate decision.Made possible by Progressive Equity.

In Germany, we don't have the Thanksgiving Holiday. I learned to appreciate this tradition here in the US that I have called my new home for over 28 years. I married into a big family that grew even bigger over the past years. We all get together on Thanksgiving to enjoy each other's company and the food we bring to the table. My contribution is a traditional German side dish that my mother used to make on Christmas day; red cabbage that goes along with potato dumplings and, of course, Turkey.  What happens if the discussions at the dinner table get heated? I take Dr. Wayne Dyer's advice, which I share in this episode. For all of my loyal listeners, I have some giveaways. I'll explain in my podcast. Do you know the benefits of red cabbage? It has many nutrients and is rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals, all of them excellent for our body. It has antioxidant and immunostimulant properties, helping strengthen the immune system and fight the free radicals. All of this helps prevent many diseases. Did you know that? Besides all of that, red cabbage also: Contributes to heart health Contributes to bone health Helps with digestion and weight loss You already know the benefits of ginger, right? See, now, the recipe for cabbage and ginger paste. Write down the ingredients 1 red cabbage; 1 piece (2 inches) ginger; 5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil; 1 lemon; Making it is easy: Put all ingredients in a blender and blend for five minutes, on high, until it becomes a smooth paste. If necessary, add 3,40 oz. of water and blend again. You can eat this paste in many different ways, adding it to salads or spreading it on bread and toast. Or, if you like, you can ingest 2 tablespoons of this mixture in the morning, apply it over lesioned or achy areas, or applying it on skin. To apply on your face, spread the paste over clean skin, let it act for 15 minutes, rinse and apply a moisturizer. After a few days, you will notice your skin lighter and any wrinkles and dark circles you have will be lessened. But be careful, since it has lemon, avoid sun exposure after applying it over your skin, to avoid dark spots. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Roast chicken thigh and red cabbage slaw Show notes at https://yumlum.co/2ZnNpek Meat thermometers are the best I ate too many carbs yesterday. When I weighed in this morning I was in the red zone. Ingredients Chicken thigh Sliced red cabbage Grated carrot Chopped coriander Chopped parsley Chopped mint leaves Pickled sliced radish Pickled red onion Queensland nut oil Iodised salt Freshly cracked black pepper Instructions The night before or early in the morning, uncover the chicken thigh and sprinkle some iodised salt on the chicken skin. Leave the chicken uncovered in the refrigerator to dry brine to ensure a crispy skin. During the afternoon slice some radish and red onion. Remove the zest from a lime and an orange. Remove the juice from a lime and an orange. Pickle the red onion and radish with the zest and juice from the lime and orange. Preheat an oven to 200 °C (392 °F). In a baking tray add some chicken stock. Place a rack over the baking tray. Put the dry brined chicken thigh on the rack and brush with some Queensland nut oil. Season the chicken with freshly cracked black pepper. Insert a meat thermometer. Place the chicken into the oven and cook according to the meat thermometer aiming for an internal temperature of 78 °C (172 °F). Once the internal temperature reaches 78 °C (172 °F) remove the chicken and allow it to rest. Add a knob of butter to a frypan and allow it to melt. Sprinkle in some plain (all purpose flour) and form a roux. Pour the chicken fat flavoured chicken stock into a frypan and mix with the roux to form a gravy. While the chicken is cooking slice the red cabbage, grate the carrot, chop the coriander, chop the parsley, and chop the mint leaves. Mix the red cabbage, grated carrot, chopped parsley, chopped coriander, chopped mint leaves, and the drained pickled radish and red onion. As we come into the last 2 weeks of the Sugar Freedom 6 Week Challenge, it's time to hear about Catherine's top fat releasing tips.  Drink your tonic, get in 8 glasses of water, satisfy and quiet your appetite in order to get the results you deserve.  Catherine reveals her book of the week: Keto Clarity by Jimmy Moore with Eric C. Westman, MD. Weekly Recipe: Beef Taco Filling.  I use this to fill Red Cabbage leaves.  Simply serve with taco shells for your family members and guests who don't need to go Keto. 1lb grass fed ground beef, 1 yellow onion, chopped, 4 cloves garlic, minced, 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar sheese, 1 jar organic salsa.  In a large skillet combine onion and ground beef and cook until beef is no longer pink.  Add garlic and cook 1 minute. Drain fat and put in your slow cooker. Add cheese, salsa, cumin, and salt.  Cover and cook on high for 3 hours or on low for for 5 hours.  Add tomatoes and shreeded lettuce if desired, and wrap in cabbage leaves to serve.

On today's show I talk about making a traditional German red cabbage or Blau Kraut. This dish comes from my mother in-law Omi...shes's from Bavaria and this is one of my favorite receipes that she has shown me.  In Germany this type of red cabbage is traditionally served with sausags or brats. It also pairs well with pork chops whether pan fried or grilled. This recipe is simple and extremely satisfying.
