Robert Marks founded Fidelity Voice and Data in 1999 with just a $600 investment, which he grew into a business generating over $30 million in revenue, making it one of the largest telecommunications and cloud services competitors throughout the Midwest. The company focused on providing high-speed Internet access to various industries. After selling the company in 2015, Robert turned his attention to giving back to his local community through various philanthropic initiatives. In 2020, however, Robert's entrepreneurial spirit led him to solve a deeply personal problem during the pandemic—centered around the difficulty of sharing personal media with family. He raised $1.2 million and founded Projector as a keepsake company, building a personal streaming platform for legacy and memory preservation—the platform he wished had existed. The company now has thousands of subscribers, and Robert is in the process of raising a larger venture round to scale Projector. In our conversation, we unpack Robert's journey as an entrepreneur, his transition from B2B to B2C, the nuances and opportunities within the keepsake and legacy market, how AI serves as technological leverage to lower the barriers to building companies, the lessons he imparts as an educator, the importance of corporate culture, his love for Cleveland, and much more!-----LINKS:https://www.linkedin.com/in/-robertmarks/ https://projector.app/-----SPONSORS: Impact Architects & NinetyImpact Architects & NinetyLay of The Land is brought to you by Ninety. "What are the chances of that happening?" we often say or hear whenever something remarkable or out of the ordinary takes place. When we use that phrase, we are invoking the design inference, even though we may not exactly call it that. Our guest again this week, philosopher, mathematician and senior fellow at Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture Dr. William Dembski shares with us how his more formalized design inference is indeed rooted in simple, everyday inferences we all make. But he also how it fits into the laws of probability, information theory, and specified complexity as well, making it a rigorous formal argument applicable for intuiting design in the physical cosmos and biology. For centuries Western natural philosophy, theology and the scientific tradition widely accepted that the physical cosmos and life within it was the creation of God. Arguably one of the most influential works which usurped the belief in God as the Creator was Charles Darwin's 1859 publication On the Origin of Species. It undoubtedly provided many with the intellectual framework for atheism, naturalism, and materialism. But in the late 20th and early 21st century, the concept of intelligent design has made a cultural comeback. In this episode of Money Tales, our guest is Robert Marks. Robert always wanted to build his own house. He even remembers being in middle school and doodling houses while his teachers droned on and on. About ten years ago, Robert and his wife found a beautiful piece of land that would be perfect for their dream home. They spent two years planning the construction, working closely with an architect, and then another couple of years building it. When the house was finished, it was incredible. Everyone loved it. His wife, their family, their friends, and even their dog. Robert liked to tell people that he built the greatest house in the history of Cleveland, Ohio. There was only one problem. Within a week of moving in, Robert realized he didn't like living there. Eventually, his wife missed their old neighborhood and they decided to move back. In reflection, Robert realizes, building the home was his dream, not necessarily living there and changing their lifestyle. Robert founded Fidelity Voice and Data in 1999 and soon grew the start-up into one of the largest telecommunication and cloud services competitors throughout the Midwest. Starting the company with a $600 investment, Robert grew the company into a $30,000,000 business. The business was launched to solve the problem of High-Speed Internet access to businesses, government agencies, non-profits, education and healthcare facilities. In 2004 the company launched a groundbreaking VoIP venture and built data centers in Cleveland, Columbus, and Chicago. Following this success, he sold the company in 2015 and decided to focus his attention on continuing to give back to his local community through multiple philanthropic initiatives. Along with Layne Swenson, Robert launched the startup Projector, LLC in 2020. Robert currently lives in Chagrin Falls, Ohio with his wife and four children. Robert holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of South Florida.

On this episode, Kennedy sits down with the Director of the Walter Bradley Center for Natural & Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Robert Marks, to prove that artificial intelligence will not destroy the world, contrary to popular belief. Dr. Marks explains to listeners that despite the rapidly increasing technology, A.I. bots will never become sentient or understand what their jobs are for. He claims the actual dangers are when bias is programmed into them, but as long as these consequences are known, there should be no threat to the human world inflicted by the artificial world. There is an inordinate amount of hype and fear around artificial intelligence these days, as a chorus of scholars, luminaries, media, and politicians nervously project that it could soon take our jobs and subjugate or even kills us off. Others are just as fanciful in hoping it is on the verge of solving all our problems. But the truth is AI isn’t nearly as advanced as most people imagine. What is the practical reality of AI today, and how should government approach AI policy to maximize its potential? To parse the hype, the hope, and the path forward for AI, Rob and Jackie sat down recently with Pedro Domingos, emeritus professor of computer science at the University of Washington and author of The Master Algorithm.Mentioned:Pedro Domingos, The Master Algorithm: How the Quest for the Ultimate Learning Machine Will Remake Our World (Basic Books, 2015).Robert D. Without a doubt, the hospitality industry is in an evolutionary state of sweeping change. While many in the sector are seeing transformations occur daily, others are watching from the proverbial sidelines, eager to bring back in to play the game of hospitality they’ve loved and known so well. But for those accustomed to providing high-touch service in a hotel setting, what does the future of hospitality truly look like? One of the best examples to examine is the traditional hotel concierge role. The word concierge is French, meaning the ‘keeper of keys’, and during the Middle Ages, a concierge did just that. When castles across Europe hosted visiting nobility, the concierge kept the keys to the castle rooms while ensuring that guests had everything they needed during their stay. Fast forward to more recent times, and the concierge has become the ‘go-to’ person with the connections, resolve and composure to execute any request, regardless of how peculiar. A position within a hotel that is more than just customer-facing, the hotel concierge is the guest’s liaison to the property itself, as well as the neighborhood and community that lies beyond the front doors. When considering the future of both hospitality and the concierge profession, no one is better qualified to discuss the topic and offer insider insights than Robert Marks, former President of Les Clefs d'Or USA and current Director of the Americas Les Clefs d'Or International (also known as UICH). Based in San Diego, a city reliant upon convention business, Marks has seen first-hand the challenges that the industry faces. With a convention center that’s been temporarily transformed into a shelter to help house the homeless—indeed, a noble effort by the city’s leadership—this move is unquestionably indicative that San Diego is not expecting convention business any time soon.Say Yes To Travel has a New Episode Every Thursday!

There’s a lot of doomsday hype around artificial intelligence in general, and the idea of so-called “killer robots” has been especially controversial. But when it comes to the ethics of these technologies, one can argue that robots actually could be more ethical than human operators. Humans can commit war crimes. They can deliberately kill innocent people or enemies that have surrendered. Humans get stressed and tired and bring any number of biases to the table. But robots just follow their code. Moreover, U.S. adversaries are deploying these technologies quickly, and stakes are high if we don’t keep up. Rob and Jackie discuss these technologies—and the risks of sitting out the AI arms race—with Robert J. Marks, Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Baylor University, and Director of the Walter Bradley Center for Natural and Artificial Intelligence.Mentioned:Robert J. Military brass express worry about the prospect of autonomous weapons, robotic platforms that make their own decisions about when and where to shoot. Robert Marks said such weapons do come with practical and ethical challenges, but recommends continued development. He directs the Walter Bradley Center for Natural and Artificial Intelligence at Discovery Institute, and he joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin for more discussion.
#Exoneration Don Jans What is the next move by the Marxists? We know they will not relent. How serious is the violence that has been threatened by the Sanders camp now that he is in a virtual tie with Joe Biden? Pete Buttiegig has gone on the the offensive against both Biden and Sanders with attacks against their policies. #AISoldiers Robery Marks expert in AI discusses the potential for a real life minority report and Edge of tomorrow. #ClarenceThomas Director Michael Pack discusses what the effects are of AI on criminal behavior and military combat. #PoliticalRingside Jeff Crouere WGSO 990 AM calls in to join our two programs as we discuss elections, impeachment and today's stories. We will have live callers too.
We've heard a lot about the civilian applications of artificial intelligence, but the military applications are equally fascinating and frightening. Science fiction movies like "The Terminator" tell us of a bleak future where AI becomes "too smart" and turns on humans using our own weapons against us. Dr. Robert Marks, director of the Walter Bradley Center for Natural and Artificial Intelligence at Discovery Institute and Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Baylor University, takes a less fearful view of militarized AI, arguing that AI is neither good nor bad and those writing, coding, and using the AI systems are responsible for the morality and ethics of its use. In his new book "The Case for Killer Robots," Marks argues that lethal AI is necessary and should be developed by modern militaries, especially America. Marks joins Gormley now to discuss the benefits and potential risks of arming artificial intelligence.

Human intelligence sits between fundamental, unbridgeable chasms on either side: animal and artificial intelligence. The capacity for creativity, for one thing, stands permanently outside the reach of algorithms. In a wide-ranging conversation, Robert Marks and Michael Medved tackle questions like what it means for something to be not just unknown but “unknowable.”
Addressing one of today's most acclaimed technological frontiers, Michael Medved and professor of electrical and computer engineering Robert Marks discuss the limits of artificial intelligence. They begin with definitions — What is a computer? What is an algorithm? — before tackling some pervasive media myths. Can a computer innovate or only imitate? Can computers now really do anything different from the Turing Machine, devised as a model by Alan Turing in the 1930s? Could a computer be programmed to interact with humans like the sinister HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey? The answer is yes, says Bob Marks, and whatever flaws such a machine displayed would be the faults inadvertently woven into it by its human programmers.
Don't miss this episode of God-Talk! Dr. Marks presents compelling scientific proof based on mathematical modeling that will challenge the long-held foundational beliefs regarding the Darwinian unguided process worshipped by atheistic scientists. Not only that, Dr. Marks who appeared in 'Expelled' with Ben Stein has an interesting story about his walk with God and an inspiring testimony for us all!! Dr. Andy & Doug put his theory to the test
